No #1 pick should qualify for MIP that should go to a player who could hardly get on the floor then because an all-star/near all-star but since the NBA also treats the MIP as a comeback player of the year I think having your season cut almost in half due to injury it's kinda justified
I only say kinda cause like I said I think no #1 pick should be most improved they are supposed to eather be amazing at the start of just naturally will get better as time goes on cause they're that good

Honestly, if he wins MVP, he deserves MIP. The leap from all-star to MVP is much harder to make than say replacement level to all star

They need to put unambiguous qualifiers on who can be considered for MIP. Already great players making a big leap shouldn’t be considered. Exclude young players with less than 4 years experience, players with accolades like all star, players with good counting stats etc.Â
Players coming out of nowhere should take narrative precedence. Imo matas buzelis, a young lottery pick player who’s only in his second season, should not win the award even if he averages 30ppg for the season
I’m not a fan of high draft picks that are almost certainly future stars winning MIP, but if Vic keeps up these numbers he deserves it. All-star numbers to legit MVP candidate numbers is a huge jump.
