Oilers Bounce Back in Style with Huge Home Win | Oilersnation Everyday with Tyler & Liam

Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Start with [Music] switch. [Music] [Music] Welcome to Oilers Nation Everyday with your hosts Tyler and Liam. Oilers win, Blue Jays win. Conor McDavid two gogoal performance. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. World Series home run. In the words of George Castanza, I think it moved. Let’s get into it with the lead. [Music] It’s a boner joke, Liam. The uh sports night had me feeling some kind of way, you know. Huh? I’ve decided I’m going to take the first 20 minutes off of this show and then give you everything I’ve got for the final 40. You’re just going to sit out the first few? First 20 all you. If you don’t mind just keeping on a single shot, Aaron, go ahead. Is this because you don’t like the boner joke? It’s because I watched the Edmonton Oilers have the worst 40 minutes of their lives yesterday. Knocked it up for 40. I see what you did there. I like that. But I won’t let you down like this team does seven times this time. I’ll get up there. Thank you for opening your laptop. 1 minute into the show. Uh we are live from the Sports Closet studio. I mean, no matter who your favorite team is, no matter who you’re watching win right now, the Sports Closet’s got the gear for you. Three locations in the Edmonton area. Uh we also forgot to do our Sports Closet giveaway yesterday, so that’s on us. We’re getting bad at that. I did it last week. You did it yesterday. Hand up. We’re having a bad week. You know, the short weeks really throw it at you. I know it was only a short week for a few of us, but like we just got back on Monday from the nation vacation and I just I was even thrown off last night. I was looking at my fantasy football app and I lost again. I was like, damn, I got to get my waiver picks. I’m like, damn, this waivers happens in 20 minutes. Yeah. Sorry. Yeah. I was thrown off. I don’t even know who I got yet. up. Yeah, just all over the place right now. That happens. It does. We’re allowed to have bad days. That’s right. Shows a presentation of bet365. Download the app today. Use the promo code nation. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary at bet365. I hit my game day bet yesterday. Big one. I hit all my other bets, but my game day bet which was just a real kick in the knockers. Did you have a good betting day though? Were you financially $120? That was pretty good. And I bet responsibly the whole way. The only things I didn’t hit were um and you know, this is what’s frustrating about the game day betting challenge. My mornings are are jam-packed. Same with you. Same with Aaron. Same with Jay. And sometimes I look at it literally like five minutes before the show and Aaron’s like, “I need a bet.” And I’m like, [ __ ] I got to find one. So yesterday I threw together that shot parlay. I think B got zeros again. Yeah. But then I’m looking through later on when I have a bit more time on my hands. You’re seeing the board better. Three and a half goals was plus 105 for the team total on the others. That was a auto pick. Four and a half goals. That would have been four was like 265. It would have been rich. So I was just like, damn it. So I hit that one. The only one I missed was my game day bet. And I also went for a manga a pani go fairly invisible last night from uh Mangi Mani but uh whatever used everyone else was relatively fine so they won. What was the final score? 63. Yep. Got to be happy with that. Uh Mark McClennon asked, “When do Ryder and Lisa debut on the Nation?” They’re rehearsing right now. They’re doing rehearsals right now. I think next month next Monday. I think it’s Monday. Yeah, Monday. So get stay tuned, Mark. I I think they’ll be on this channel, the O channel. They don’t have their own and uh they’ll have their podcast as well. The sauce. It’ll be a lot of fun. Again, it’s a super unique show. Something we haven’t really done at Oilers Nation where it’s like not 100% Oilerscentric. No, it’s Edmonson centric. Exactly. Which is really cool. Lifestyle, all that stuff. Um they’re going to be really really good. We can’t wait to have that show join our network next week. Uh can’t I just like having them around the office came in to say today, gave Reese a pat on the head as he worked to say, “Good job, buddy.” And then I turned, waved to Ryder and Lisa. They were very dialed in, though. very dialed in. Way different to us. Um, all right. Ryder and Lisa, I discovered yesterday they dro they wrote down like on a huge notepad their like brainstorming ideas for the sauce. And let me tell you, I loved what I was reading. It’s different. It’s fun. There’s Oilers in it. There’s even some Gen Z segments cuz Reese is such a young lad. And uh I’m very excited to tune in. I am going to be gone next week. I’m going to tune in to the songs all the time. I’m going to be in the chats. Yeah. just sounds almost the complete opposite of our show. Not in the not in their content, but in their preparation. Oh yeah. Yeah. Brainstorming. No, I again I was driving in today and I just forget like who our guests are and stuff. It’s We have a show on Fridays called the fun zone. Friday fun zone, baby. Um Oh man, we do we have segments. Oh yeah, we have se segments, but I think we’re also good at just freestyling. I agree. Yeah, I completely We’re best on our feet. Yeah, I just think that’s when we work at our best is when we just eliminate everything. Just when we’re not at our best, we’re at our best. And you know what they say about planning, right? You plan, God laughs. That’s why we never do a show script. All right. Uh the YouTube chat’s buzzing. It’s brought to you by our friends at Odd Company Brewing in the Nation Beer Everyday Logger. A crisp, clean logger crafted not just for game day, but for everyday. Find one at one of their two locations, downtown or the Richie location. Um Liam, the game last night, definitely a lot of headlines to kind of come out of it. Let me just ask you though, you were saying you’re also the Sportsnet Plus, there was like a nationwide outage during the World Series. You’re telling me it makes me feel like it’s it’s nice as someone who hasn’t cut out cable yet that I’m like, “Ah, that’s a win for me.” Yeah, I cut out cable a while ago and last night I didn’t really know what to do because so it ended. So I watched the oldest game. I didn’t really watch too much of the World Series. I was trying to Well, my plan was to watch Journey of the Mission, but that’s when it was completely wiped out. So I wasn’t able to do it. So it kind of died out towards the end of the first and then I got it back just after Echol scored. I think just a little bit after. So I missed a little bit but I I I don’t think much happened. I had the two TV setup just hum perfectly last night. Great idea. It was great. Great idea. Um which game got the smaller TV? Oilers. Oh yeah. Oilers got the smaller TV. I think that’s fair. I do love your TV setup and the lights you have. You’ve really bought into this whole light thing. It seems like every TV you go around like got to get my lights on it. Yeah. And now you’ve got you got one here and one of your house. I I do like it. Yeah. I just don’t have my TV on the wall like you do. So I got to Oh, you got to do that. It’s very easy. Why? Because of Tyler, I put lights behind my TVs in my basement. I like a bit of an ambiance. Mhm. Have you seen the ones where you can connect it to the movie you’re watching? Oh, and it’ll like go with the theme. Yeah, it goes with the theme. I wonder what that would be like for Harry Potter. Uh Chel is in the chat and says, “I turned off the game, went to bed after it was two nothing Utah.” Honestly, well, okay, wait, actually, no. Follow up. Chelle, where do you live? Cuz if you went to bed at like 8:00 last night, I have some serious questions about that. Chelle, do you remember when Chel used to be like the biggest villain in this YouTube chat? He’s mellowed out a little bit. Maybe he’s like become a father or something. Maybe. I don’t know. I was tired. He must be in Quebec. Yeah. Yeah, maybe. Um Jeffrey Mazaros is in. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him comment. Oh, thank you for your comment, Jeffrey. Welcome to the show, Jeffrey. He says, “Just want to say I appreciate your spontaneous freestyle flow, boys.” Thank you. We appreciate your comment. Leave a like if you’re in the YouTube chat right now, too. We uh I’ll just be honest with you guys. We need them. Yeah. Honestly, if you’re watching, can you guys please hit the like button cuz our Basically, what happened is we played highlights the other day and YouTube kicked us and now our engagement is way down. Falling a little bit off the algorithm. Yeah, we really really really need the algorithm to get back and dialed in for us. Not good this week. No, I do think part of it too like this doesn’t apply. Yeah. Whoa, that was close. That was close. Got to move your chair. Got that little noodle sign wasn’t that full. This doesn’t apply to the people in the YouTube chat cuz like as I see 90% of these names, these are the people that watch in August. Like the true sickos and hardcores. I love you guys. We aren’t getting the casuals right now. They’re all going to like Blue Jays today and all of that, which I is totally understandable. Last night I watched the first period of the Oilers game with the sound off and it was on my small TV. Small one’s only 55 in, by the way. Can barely see. I got to squint real close. How big’s a big one? Uh 70. Wow, buddy. I’m rocking 265s in That’s good living. See, if I if I didn’t have a wife and I had true like free rain, I would have two on the wall. That feels like a bit much to me. Maybe in the basement. Basement would Yeah, basement you could do it. I also I do think my dream I don’t know how the technology would work, but if someone in the chat knows how to do this in my basement, I wouldn’t mind like I have my big TV. I wouldn’t mind going two small ones on top of it. Yeah, I think that is the way. My one buddy, like if you were to imagine, let’s look at this wide shot here. So that TV is like an 8590 something like that. And then he’s got two and two stacked on the right and left that are smaller TVs that make up the size of the first one. Wow. It’s electrical. That is very interesting. That is really cool. I like that. Oh, Jordan’s is 75 flex robins in #wifealk. Brager. Mhm. Um is 55 inch small because that seems pretty big to me. It’s massive. All right. Uh, got three Aiden’s in got three TVs in my living room. Perfect for sports. Again, elite there. Like the thing I do like about my setup in the basement. I didn’t mount my TV. Um, because if there is like this if there’s a day where I need it. So, I usually the 55 in is the one I pull from my bedroom into my upstairs living room. If I need a third TV, I bring the one from downstairs upstairs, too. And then you can I can build a pretty good three TV setup. I can build a pretty good four TV setup, but that’s the max. I only have four TVs. Interesting. I have five. Really? Yeah. And yet you couldn’t find a way to have the Jason Oilers on at the same time yesterday. I No, I My sports ner wasn’t working. My sister also uses the same one. You can only have two at the same time. So, and we also steal from our parents. I I’ll just say one thing really really quick. There’s ways to watch games without sports. I have a I have only a company laptop, so it won’t won’t let you into those websites. No, it will not. Uh, okay. Let’s get into things from last night. Let’s do a game recap. Uh, I should let everyone know the actual structure of today’s show. David Pñota is going to join us at 12:30, our insider from the fourth period. We’re going to talk a little hockey. He’s in LA, so we’ll definitely talk a little baseball with him. He’s a big Jay’s guy as well. Um, and then we’re also going to Oh, couple big extensions in the NHL. That’s what I wanted to say. Logan Culie and uh Thomas Harley both getting eight year deals. Yeah, interesting one on Thomas Harley. I’m curious to get uh Dave Pnod’s Pota uh thoughts on that one. Uh unexpected length. Eight years for him. Yeah. I I just think I’m just surprised how many players are doing it still. Yeah. And that’s probably where we’ll go with David with David coming up at 12:30. Chris Sheets, you know him, you love him. He spent decades on the radio in Edmonton, mainly with decades on the ferris wheel. Decades on that ferris wheel over the summer. Iconic episode of Oiler Station Every Day. Uh Chris, he’s also now the co-host of Talking Sheets, a podcast that he does with his daughter who works for the Oilers. Yes. A very, very cool pod. Uh he’s going to join us cuz he was in Dodger Stadium at Dodger Stadium for that 18 inning game. And he’s also a big Oilers guy. We’re going to talk to him about a whole bunch of different stuff. That’s coming up at 1:00. But for right now, let’s do our game recap, which is brought to you by Greta. If you don’t have the ability to watch multiple games at once, maybe you consider going to Greta for your next game night experience. Arcade bar, street food, right in the heart of downtown. Shout out to Greta. Um, this game had some had a little bit of a roller coaster. I was having a really fun Twitter thread with someone. I did see that. So, the Oilers go down two nothing and I and and we’ll go through everything. So, [ __ ] scores the first one. It’s an awful turnover by Darnell Nurse and then a shot that you really probably want Stu Skinner to stop. Um, so we’ll get a look at it here again. Turned over, flipped. Stu’s got to have that one. He overcommits. overcommits. Yeah, it’s almost like he and I don’t know if he did, but he like like lost his foot in a little bit right at the end and just whips it past him if he was able to stay more square to the to the to the shooter. I don’t think that one goes in, but obviously the uh the mistake comes a little bit higher up the ice to say the least. Um, and then the other one, the two nothing goal is the one where Darnell Nurse tries to dump it in, hits a linesman, goes back the other way and JJ Purka with an absolute rocket of a shot. Like, I mean, I get that that’s a little bit of bad luck. And as Purka comes in, zing, that’s a rocket of a shot. So, here’s my take on these two goals. I’d be willing to chalk this up to bad luck for Darnell Nurse if the first mistake didn’t happen. You can’t have them both. I can’t cut you slack when earlier in the game you were also directly responsible for a goal against. And the same thing for Stuart Skinner where this shot is an elite highlevel shot from an elite highle player in JJ Purka. Like this guy will score 40 goals in the NHL and will probably do it multiple times in his career. Yes, I can forgive that goal for Stuart Skinner if he gives you the big save earlier. But just that first goal compounded with the second goal, that’s a big fail for both Nurse and Skinner. I couldn’t agree more, disagree more. Sorry. Whoa. Really? I mean, disagreement, but Stewart skin is supposed to do on that second goal. The guy rifles it by him. I don’t think any many goalies are going to do it. So, I I want a big save though. Either there or on the first one. One of those two came. Sure. But I don’t think they I don’t think they correlate. Is that the way you would? Correct. I think there are two very separate situations. I think the first one he overcommits is out of his positioning. He needs to stay more square to the shooter. Not the goal I wanted to see go in the second one. I don’t know if any goalie in the NHL is stopping that. It’s a good shot. It’s a great shot. I thought Brett had a great freeze frame of it yesterday where it’s like it just it’s right in the top of the net. Yep. Like it’s not much you can do. Nurse a bit unfortunate and I agree with you on that one. It’s like okay if you didn’t do the first one which was egregious. The second one you can forgive, but again it’s it’s Darnell Nurse and he he’s been doing this a bit too often. My stance on Nurse is this. Well, two things. They benched him after this for like 10 minutes. He did not play a shift until around the 13 minute mark of the second period. So again, for all the people who are like they’re never held accountable, blah blah blah, they took full advantage of having seven defenseman yesterday. They did. Ironically, the seventh defenseman took full advantage of Darnell Nurse, and I don’t know why they keep turning to, and they haven’t done it a ton this season. I know Regula has been in and out of the lineup. Why they turn to Darnell Nurse and Troy Ster is beyond me at the moment. Sure, they had a couple of moments in the playoffs and last season, the numbers looked pretty good, but when you look through it this season, it’s like, what are we doing? You know what I mean? They they had nothing going for them last night. It just felt very chaotic when they were on the ice together. I do think when Nurse after the first period, and this goes for the whole team, his game did improve. I don’t think he was as noticeable. He seemed to play a bit more physical and a lot simpler. Like we call him Simple Daryl to me, Simple Daryl is like doing what he was trying to do on the second goal against is like move up the ice and make a play and like that’s when Darnell’s at his best transporting the puck. Exactly. And you’re trying to go through glass and get past the defender and go on a hard for check. I respect the idea, but you’ve also got to know this. The ref is there. I just think you got to staple that guy next to Wman and just let him ride because we know and we criticized Echol a little bit uh on yesterday’s show and a little bit on After Dark on Sunday night, too. You know, Booard and Eklom are going to figure it out eventually. They’re they look we know what they are. Don’t you have bigger problems? Don’t compound the issue here. Exactly. And I think Kulak and Emerson have been relatively reliable as a third pair. I just didn’t find it necessary to jam Troy Ster into the lineup last night and disrupt a few things because even when you look back to Sunday’s game, Nurse and Bushard weren’t even that bad. No, they played perfectly fine together. Warman and Ekko actually ended up being a bit more of the issue in that game. So, I just think like let’s push Steter off to the side. Regula comes back. See if we can get him through waiverss. I I think we could do a new bit on this show. Okay. Who’s on is next? Well, no. So, we’ll do like a graveyard and we’ll kill people. No, no, we’ll kill narratives. Okay. Okay. Cuz there’s a bunch of people who will still sit there and been like and sit there and be like, “Well, you got to keep stretch around. He’s the nurse whisperer.” They stink together and they’ve been stinking together. There there was someone left a comment on our YouTube a was not last week maybe the week before and we were talking about nurse I can’t sorry I can’t remember who commented it but it was after a show and they said he’s like he’s not even playing that bad he just has to overcompensate for his partner and in that case they were talking about stature and I think I’m starting to agree because if he’s playing with warm he’s playing fine and like granted mistakes are going to happen teams are going to score goals it’s going to happen whatever last night you you need to have him eliminate those huge huge mistakes. If it’s not Bard, it’s nurse. If it’s not nurse, it’s Bousard. If it’s not Bard nurse, it might be Ekl. You know who it’s never? Jake Wman. So, let’s put nurse next to Wall. Yes. And I get like Naimm, our friend says, bench him till he waves his no movement clause. That’ll help. It just that’s not how it works though, either, right? Cuz like one, there’s not a team in season who is going to step up and take Darnell Nurse’s contract without you paying a ton for him. you will then have to go find a player to play those minutes. And like at the end of the day, as much as he makes mistakes and he struggles a lot and his bad stretches are bad, he’s still eating the minutes for you, which like again, is it good, bad, I don’t know, but there’s you can point to the times he’s playing with Jake Walman and like it works. It does work. You are getting the results and like is he We can sit here and talk about his contract and we’re blew in the face. It’s never changing. You can’t change his contract. What can you change? His partner and the way you put him in situations. Exactly. So like you are never if you’re going to sit there and be like I’m obsessed with Darnell Nurse being a $9 million defenseman who carries his own pairing and all this stuff. It’s never happening. We’re never getting to that level. But can you make Darnell Nurse a somewhat serviceable number four if he’s next to Jake Wman? Yes. The proof is there that you can do that. So lean into it and do it and let Echo and Bard figure it out cuz we know eventually they’re going to be fine and let your third pairing of Koolak Emerson continue to just be steady for you cuz honestly I’m pretty confident they’re going to be fine. And a week ago, 10 days ago, I might have been willing to sit here and have a conversation about is Regula going to lead to Emerson being traded or put on waiverss. I’m done having that conversation. I’m ready for Tai Emerson to play all 82 this year. I think awesome. He had an awesome game and he’s had a pretty solid run here. Just looking at the numbers a little bit. Nurse with Regula also looked to be pretty decent. They’ve just only played 24 minutes together as a pairing. They had an expected goal share of 70% Nurse and Regula. Uh second best is with um Jake Wman which is 57%. I think those numbers are good. I actually don’t know. So the Oilers go into the first intermission down two nothing. They sure do. And then they got Stuart Skinner looks like the worst goalie in the game. Second or as someone tweeted me, he’s always the second best goalie in the game. Uh not always. Was he? Something major happen in the sec between periods. From Ryan Rashog. Sounds like the leadership group had some strong words between periods followed by Chris Knobblock as well. Good response tonight. Knobblock says the team turned over 16 pucks off the rush in the first period. That’s what prompted the intermission discussion. Here’s Greor with a quote from Ty Emerson. Emerson said, “No.” And as Greor points out, that that is Chris Knobblock. Knobber came in after the first period and told us we had 16 turnovers at the blue line. Simplicity in the second period was the key. They are a good transition team and we didn’t give them as much after we got some 5v5 goals. So, let’s get into those 5v5 goals because the Oilers came out after their coach yelled at him, after the star player said, “This isn’t good enough.” Well, they played at a level that was certainly good enough. This goes back to what we talked about yesterday and what we’ve been beating to death on this show. If the Oilers are at their agame, nobody else can touch them. Edmonton at their best is better than every single team in the NHL. The hottest team in the NHL was in our building last night. And when the Oilers said, “hm, let’s play hockey.” They started to dominate the hockey game. Um, this one is the opener early on in the second period, which was also came at a really big time cuz it just makes the bad first period not seem as bad when you get one. Matias at home, who, oh boy, did he need it. An absolute rocket off a shot off an absolute beauty of a feed by Leon Dryidle, who I think had his best hockey game of the season last night. And there is a long list of Oilers who we can probably say that about. But Echolome winds up, puts a puck hard on net, and a good thing happens. It’s two to one. And then Edmonton, after a couple of their big names, get them back in the hockey game. One of the young guns ties it up. Ike Howard’s got two on the year. He is scoring at a 16goal pace despite getting limited minutes. He has the big si. I loved everything about this from the forche to create the turnover to the sure hands of Adam Henrique to set this one up. Um an absolute beauty by the Edmonton Oilers. Howard finds the soft spot in front of the net and uh I think they might be on to something here. Seavoy Howard. Henrique. Why not? Just as long as it’s not Thomas between them because they have played a lot better with Henrik. We’ve seen it a few times now this season. and just simple hockey, like playing the puck down low, being aggressive on the boards, like forcing Utah to make decisions quicker than they would want to. And it just comes with a bit of aggression. And just again, like like Howard going to where he needs to be to score a goal. We’ve seen that a couple of times now, obviously. And I like him. He’s done well. He was uh lowest time in ice yesterday for all his forwards, but just shy of 10 minutes, I believe. Granted, he did not get any power play time because it was only one or two, whatever. ended up being. But I like him. With that said, not forcing it yet. Good point. Let the kid breathe. Let him keep flying out because we’ve had a couple of decent games for him now, but there was also a bad one between him and Vancouver. I think, and this is maybe a little bit of a hyperbole, but just hear me out. Okay, we’re in the early ongoings here. Adam Henrik might be to Ike Howard what Dererick Roy was to Nail Yakob. And I got the numbers to back it up. I was going to say actually Rico is at a good start to the season. I like Rico. Yeah, he’s been he’s been good. Re Rico when he’s on the ice without Isaac Howard getting outscored four to2. The shot metrics are actually really good and his expected goals for is tremendous, but he’s getting outsc scored 4 to2. Ike Howard when he’s on the ice without Adam Henrik getting outscored 5 to2. The fancies are not good. Ike Howard and Adam Henrik together outscoring the other team two to one. Now, the fancy metrics, I’m doing this all a little bit tongue and cheek because the fancy metrics do just say that it’s not quite that sustainable. It’s a small sample size, 55 minutes. Um, but it’s interesting to see just strictly off of goals. Howard without or sorry, Henrik without Howard minus two. Howard without Henrique minus three. Both of them together plus one. It’s good. I I would like to see that bit of consistency in there. And it’s just good to see Henrik give you a bit more offensively. Yeah, you’ve noticed him a lot through the season. I thought he played pretty well against Vancouver too without Iicard. But it’s good to see a few good little stretch here from Rico because they need him. They need him pretty bad. If he can be good on a third line, you can keep Nen Hopkins up the lineup. Totally. Um yeah, Howard and Seavoy together get outscored two to one. Um and they do get caved a little bit possession wise, but again that those three together, I’m I’m willing to give it some runway like see if they can learn from some of these mistakes and get things sorted out. I also I kind of like the duo of Seavoy and Howard cuz it’s like steady, dependable, reliable Matt Seavoy who only makes smart decisions and the agent of chaos Ike Howard who just wants to like score goals and get on the highlight reel. Like it’s sick. He is, man. He had another one yesterday where he just went in one-on-one with the defenseman and like didn’t even look like he made a move. He like chipped it to the guy’s feet and then did like a swim thing and like got the buck back and I was like, “What is this guy doing?” I did see that. That special boy. Uh so Edmonton ties the game up at 4-2. They went down 3-2. Mistake behind the net by Steuart Skinner. That one sucks as well. Um, he ends the night with a not great save percentage, although he did make some big saves later in the game. And after this, he went the final 31 minutes of the game without giving up a goal. So, again, I said yesterday he he steadied it up. Yeah. Or he Yeah, I say he settled down. This goal wasn’t great, though. Whatever. Really, the last Yep. Last mistake the Oilers made, though, because they just went bang bang bang to end the second period. They score three goals in a span of 4 minutes and 23 seconds. Um, here’s the Leon Dryidle goal. We’ll watch this one. We can skip the Tai Emerson one. That one was an ugly one. Oh, no. I want to see that one. Oh, you want to see the Emerson one? Okay, then we’ll watch both of them. Let’s say I see the Emerson one. I hope it shows what happened. And this is what we talked about yesterday with Vala. You can get the puck going from one end to the other, one side of the ice to the other. He ain’t catching it. He ain’t getting there. Liam’s goalie scouting reports on a twoame heater. Not bad. Not bad. Call him Dustin Schwarz, baby. Hey. Oh, here’s the Emerson goal. The Emerson one. I’m pretty sure this is the right one. It is. Great play by Trent Frederick. Yeah. To keep that play down there, put him under a bit of pressure. It allows him to get the puck moving again. And it comes out. Get a shot on that. Emerson, great job getting down the wall as well. Get to that back door and just tapping in. And to me, it just shows a couple of guys who are starting to find their game a little bit. And I know it’s been a while for Trent Frederick and someone put in the chair like, “Do we have eight more years of this guy?” Okay. But like, nobody sees subtle plays. It’s not always about the box score with him. And he also makes $3.8 million. Yeah. It’s not a lot of money. At the end of the day, there’ll just be fourth line money one day. It will be. And like if he can make subtle plays like that, the resulting goals in a fourth line role, like that’s what your depth guys are supposed to do, right? Like play hard and try to get some breaks. Yeah. So shot was awesome. Yeah. really good play and hopefully Emerson can keep climbing because he was under he’s under pressure. He’s kept set out the lineup. Now, how do you keep Ruler out the lineup if you’re Ty Eerson? That goal is also a great reminder that like the worst offensive players in the NHL are still just like the most mind-boggling talented hockey players ever cuz that’s like a rebound coming out back foot shitty angle and he still finds it like really good. Um anyways, Emerson then McDavid. Again, these three goals were like all identical which is crazy. Yeah. Well, and but really nice subtle play as well from Nan Hopkins. Yeah. And then Nurse as well throw pucks on net. Good things happen. Um but we’ll watch the Oilers kind of get set up here. McDavid spins off, shoves it, bang bang. All the all three goals coming from that side of the ice. All three goals coming on just getting Carol moving in his crease and things opened up for him. So I think the pre-cout was good here from the Oilers. They take a 5-3 lead heading into the second intermission. And I I can confirm my source is confirming nobody yelled at anyone in the second intermission. No yelling, just big slaps on the back. Yeah, like Louis Varlin coming out of the bullpen. Bang. Wow. Conor McDavid ends the game with an empty netter. That was significant for my bank account. That was his third shot of the game. So he said, so I had two different parlays where the last leg was McDavid needing three shots. He has two. He gets a breakaway in the third period and misses the goddamn net. Oh yeah, he did miss. And then he gets a one-time on the power play and hits the side of the net. I was like, why couldn’t Vla just slide over and get a piece of it? Yeah, driving me nuts, but he scored the empty net. Uh, one guy we didn’t mention because he actually didn’t get on the score sheet, but I think we’ll all agree had a pretty decent game, especially in the first period when nobody was going. Jack Rosik pretty solid again. He had a really nice attempt on uh the first period where again no one was going. He manages to kind of weave through. believe he hit the post on that one. Breakaway in the third period. He had two partial breakaways. Yeah. Like he and he kind of created out of nothing for himself. And the Oilers don’t have many guys like that. And I think this is just another example like don’t jump down guys throats when they’re playing bad and they make a million and a half and they’ve had no preseason. Yes, I know there’s not many guys like that, but we have one and you should give him some time. All right, just to wrap up our game recap. Is Pota here? All right, to wrap up our game recap to hammer home the point of when the Oilers are good, they can beat anyone. The list of players who I think had good games last night. Rico two-point performance looked great with the kids. Dry settle best game of the year. Conor McDavid no longer on pace for eight goals this season. Significant development. On for 10. Yeah. Uh Ike Howard nose for the net. Timely goal even though he didn’t play a ton. Nooj good plays. Trent Frederick for check. He didn’t get a point but we’re giving him like an honorary point. Yeah. Four, the fourth assist. Fourth assist goes to Trent Frederick on that goal. Matt Seavoy was awesome. Jack Rosik finishes plus one, plays 18 minutes, has four shots on goal. His best full game as an Edmonton Oiler coming off a third period in Vancouver. That was his best period as an Oiler. We’ve gone down 75% of the forwards and we can legitimately say they all made positive contributions. And on the blue line, Bousard, three apples, Echome with a big goal. Ty Emerson’s best game of the year. Very, very solid stuff. Jake Wman had two points. He was good. Again, I do think he’s a little banged up. He looks slow. Yeah. So, again, you go through 75% of your forwards and 66% of your defenseman all had standout games. Tremendous stuff. Who got the jeans award last night? Do you only do it when they lose? No, but I don’t think we actually gave out any jeans last night. Oh, show Otani. That’s who got the jeans. Sorry. Straight up. Yeah, anyone can get it. Anyone can get it. Anyone can get it. It is not exclusive to Oilers. All right. On that note, let’s get out to the Star Mechanical guest line. And it’s Edmonton’s number one plumbing and heating company. You can find out more by visiting them online at star mechanical.ca. Residential, commercial, 24/7 emergency service. They do it all. They do it well at star mechanical. As we head out to Los Angeles, California and bring in David Pñota, our insider from the fourth period. Uh, how do you feel about show Otani? I’m feeling better today. Yeah, you know, I’ll take I’ll I’ll take that. I’ll like that was tough for everybody. I mean, but this guy’s a freaking superstar. Like, he’s probably the best baseball player of all time. Let’s Let’s be real with what he’s capable of pulling offensively, pitching. I mean, he’s a cheat code. And I mean, whatever. Big pressure cooker moments. You got you have at this point, you’re just walking them. Yeah, I I I agree with that. Um, I think he’s entering the conversation like with everything he’s doing, the record he now has of like reaching base nine times in a game, that’s probably never going to be touched. I mean, the record he had last round in the CS against Milwaukee where he hit the three home runs, like he might be entering that echelon of like Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, like Show Otani isn’t just like the best baseball player of all time. He might be like undoubtedly the best player of his sport. That three home run solo shot performance with 10ks in six and a third inning. Yeah. I mean, holy [ __ ] That’s I I I don’t even know how to comprehend that. That’s that’s incredible. Just to jack three homers alone in a playoff game is remarkable. The fact that he did it while pitching in the game is just just ridiculous. And I am very very happy we beat him yesterday. Um I don’t know what the hell is going to happen today, but uh it’s it’s going back to Toronto regardless. So I’m I’m just I’m jacked across the board for this one. That was my big thing, too. The whole series as everyone and all the pundits did their, you know, Dodgers in four, Dodgers in five kind of thing. I was like, if this series gets back to Toronto, that that was goal number one for me, and they did it. Um, but you’re going to be in attendance tonight, game five. Yeah. Yeah, I’m I’m heading out to uh to the game tonight. We have some pretty sweet seats. So, uh I’m I’m kind of jacked for it. I I’m on the Dodger side, I think, where my seats are. Um so, uh that should be entertaining as as I will not be fully decked out in Jay’s gear. Uh, but I will be repping our our team. All right. I love it. Um, let’s talk a little hockey here. We got some extension news over the last 24 hours across the NHL. Um, I’ll start with Logan [ __ ] because I think you want to talk more about Thomas Harley. Um, from the [ __ ] perspective, like we had Cole Baggley on from Utah yesterday, one of their reporters, and we were kind of all in agreeance that like, you know, he’s only 21 years old. Does it make sense for him to sign a long-term deal? Should he go the Matthews route where you bridge it and then hey in 5 years four years when the caps 130 million like maybe Logan Kulie is a 156 17 million player. Were you surprised they found a common ground here in a number that would have Kulie agree to to sign for eight seasons? Uh yes and no because the way that it was trending and we had his agent on the rundown last week or two weeks ago actually um Brian Bartlett with with Ir and he told us that they’re contemplating both. they’re open to short-term slash, you know, kind of midterm type deal, which would probably be like four years before getting to the UFA status and then going full-term after that, which at that point would be max seven years. So, you’re kind of looking at 11-year type contract, but with I think at the time and and a lot changed obviously in the last two weeks, but the way things were going, it seemed like Utah was more hovered around the $9 million range. And for them to jump up to 10 to get to that figure to give him a cool 80 million over 8 years, I think that made things a lot more palatable for Kulie and his camp to just say, “All right, let’s just lock this in now.” Security is a big thing for a lot of guys, but in eight years, he’s he’s going to be what, 29? Like he’s still going to be able to jack to to cash in, excuse me, on another jacked up contract. So, I think they were comfortable with that. Um, now this tra this this this contract, by the way, they agreed to terms on this a few days ago. It took a it took a few days to kind of just uh cross the tees, dot the eyes kind of thing. The Mammoth were also on the road, so they didn’t want to, you know, have to rush anything, but I mean, he was, and kudos to them and to his camp for keeping a lid on it, but they were they were pretty comfortable right after the weekend and locking this up. They finished everything last night and announced it this morning, but it seemed like in the last, you know, 7 to 10 days, including that little that, you know, those few days where they already agreed to terms, it seemed like things really just picked up. They just got down to it and just nailed it out. Thomas Holly also signed yesterday. 10, what was it 10.587 or something that ended up being? I was surprised to see it was for eight years. I’m still not able to wrap my head around fully why some players are signing for that long. Well, and he’s different than Kulie cuz like you said, I like your point, Pinño, about how like Koulie is going to get another big ticket. This is going to kick in when he’s 25, which means it expires when he’s 33. Like this is Thomas Harley’s big ticket. Yeah. Yeah. I’m a little surprised as well, but I think from from because he’s a few year he’s a few years uh excuse me older than than Kulie, you get into that weird awkward territory of where that that comfort zone is in terms of term because you don’t want him from Dallas’s perspective, you don’t want to do a four or fiveyear deal because then he’s still in his prime and he’s UFA potential. And then from the player side of things, it’s again taking in that security and well [ __ ] what happens if I lose I bust out my knee in in four years or something like that. I’m not going to be able to cash in on a big ticket item after the fact. So again, there’s there’s give and take on on both sides. And this is this is just exclusive to these two guys. This happens across the board. Um, but I think it was it was more um lock into security now with our and this is another deal that in the last week or so really intensified and they they hammered this out. Um, but it’ll both get term but both in different circumstances because Kulie is going to cash in big time again all things considered and hopefully everybody’s healthy. Whereas Harley, we’ll see how the league kind of evolves in the next eight years. Um, some guys are starting to play a little bit longer, uh, and and and older, I guess. Um, but for for him, you lock into security, you get your big ticket deal, and, you know, for his sake, they they feel they can chase the Stanley Cup in Dallas for a few years. Do you do you think Evan Bard’s extension had any influence on the number for Thomas Harley? Well, we have people in the YouTube chat being like, “Boy, does this make Buchard’s deal look worse?” Well, I don’t think so. I I well different kind of players um you know to to a certain extent Harley has a lot more responsibility on his hands um and and eats that up because he’s not onedimensional um but you know from Bousard’s side of things again you look at the type of player that you’re getting that’s what you’re paying for for an offensive minded caliber defenseman um from Dallas’s side of things and locking in Harley I guess overall the other factor here guys um that that we’re missing in terms of comparing those types of contracts tax. Dallas, Texas. Yeah. No state tax. So, that’s the other factor in in all of this. The 10.58 whatever the hell. Um I don’t know why you got to get so cutesy with numbers, but that’s what it is. Uh like that’s what 12 pushing to 13 million in Edmonton. So, be they’ll take advantage of that and there’s nothing we’re going to do about it. You want to complain about the tax situation, go for it. It doesn’t really matter. No one’s going to change anything. Um, but realistically they the team benefits from that number because of just where they’re where they’re at. But if you compare the two, yeah, the number is the same, but in the grand scheme of things, that’s like 12 12 a.5 million in Edmonton in comparison. 10.58 10.588 would have been an overpay. 87 That’s where Jim know was like, we’re good on that, right? We’re done. Line in the sand. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, take less. take less take less to help your team. Um, there’s a couple of teams who are off to wobbly starts and we we’ll go from contract extensions to kind of trade rumors, I guess. But a couple teams off to wobbly starts we want to ask you about. And the first one is the Boston Bruins. And you know, when a team struggles, I think there’s 31 other GMs who all of a sudden pull up the roster or pull up their Puckedia page and start to go, “Okay, who can I maybe make a call on here?” Who are teams calling the Bruins about if they decide to sell? Yeah, that that there’s a reason why we’ve been hearing Pablo Zaka’s name um the last little bit uh the last week or so because teams have been calling. It’s and this is I know everybody’s been zeroing in on Vancouver. They weren’t the only ones. There are other teams that are kind of just seeing what type of price tag, you know, there is for Pavle Zaka. Casey Middlestat’s the other piece out there in Boston. He’s also readily available. Um I think there’s much more of an appetite for the Bruins to potentially move him than Zaka. Um, I think he’s wellliked in the room. He’s got some friends there. They want to, you know, the guys in the room want to keep him, want to keep, you know, that that group together for the most part. And I think that message has been relayed up top. Um, but this this wasn’t a scenario where anything was imminent. Uh, it just happened to be bunch of teams are calling, word’s getting out, we’re talking about it, other people are talking about it, and it just picks up. But but Boston, you know, good start and then they forgot how to play hockey for a bit and now they’re kind of getting back to it. Um let’s see how this team kind of progresses over the next few months. Um because if we hit January and we’re approaching, you know, that point in the season, the 30 35 game mark, we’re not quite at the halfway point, let’s say 30, uh and they’re still near the bottom, then I think Boston starts to shift a little bit in in a retool mindset. Um but unless someone’s willing to obviously overpay now, but that’s kind of where things are at with with the Bruins. They’re going to say and tell everybody, at least publicly, nope, we’re holding on to him. We like him. Um, but the indication I’ve gotten from other teams is circumstantial. Let’s see how the season plays out. The Calgary Flames are in a I think we could call it a pickle. Uh, they they got a lot of guys who want to be good pushing for the playoffs and they I think Craig Conroy even used the word pickle. Did he really pickle? A lot of smoke and Cadri as well. And now all of a sudden, what did you say before the show? They’re scratching Coronado and Perak like they look to be the extras that skate today. They don’t play tonight but what direction are they going to go in? Are they kind of waiting for guys cuz you look too like they’re only pending UFA’s forward are Lombberg and Kirkland and on the blue line obviously Anderson and Jake Bean as well is another one. Like are they kind of waiting for guys to go to them and be like hey like I think I’m good here if you want to trade me or do you think it’s going to be a bit of like an open season kind of thing? No it’s it’s it’s not there yet on on either side. Um, similar to Boston, you you suck and everyone’s going to vulture in and try to see what’s available and is there anything we can kind of pluck now. Um, a lot of teams obviously have called about Cadri and that’s why his name is so prominent the last week or so because a lot of teams are kicking the tires wanting to know a do we have a shot at him and and and b when can we get our shot? When are you ready to go in this direction? Um, you know, the the factor for Nas is that he he actually really likes it there um him and his family. So that’s the other thing. Do you want to go chase another Stanley Cup now with three more years left on your contract or do you want to kind of ride this out a little bit and if they can’t retool next season go from there? So I I think if Kadri has moved this season um that it’ll be a bit of an overpay like you’re going to people are going to look at this we’re going to look at this and go [ __ ] they did all right in this one like didn’t expect that. Um because that’s basically what it’s going to take to to pry Kadri out of out of Calgary. Um I think there are going to be other pieces like I think we can agree that Calgary may have overachieved a little bit last season even though they missed the postseason. And when that happens, you’re kind of banking on the fact that all right, well hold on a second, maybe we’re not ready for a rebuild. Maybe if we kind of insulate some pieces, hold on to some guys, we can replicate this and with also taking into account the anticipation that some of your younger guys like Coronado and others are going to take next steps this coming season. So we may be in a perfect storm scenario. The problem is when so many things go right in one year to have that happen back to back that alone that’s a big ask. That doesn’t happen often. and maybe they were off trying to offset it with all right, these younger kids are going to take the next step, so overall we’ll still be in good prime positioning to pluck a playoff spot. Um, not the case right now, obviously. Uh, and and we’re hearing Cadre’s name. We are going to hear Blake Coleman’s name more. Uh he’s another prime target for a lot of contenders that want a guy that’s got cup pedigree, that’s been there before, that knows how to play in those types of pressure cooker situations, and has a pretty palatable cap hit for and and term on his deal. Like he’s not a UFA next summer. Um he’s going to be a guy that I know some teams are already looking at, at least internally. I don’t know if discussions have started yet with with Calgary, similar to how they have with with with Kadri in terms of teams just kind of prying and saying keep us in mind. I don’t know if it’s there yet for Coleman, but I do know there are teams that are looking at him internally going this might be a guy that we could add to our team that would fit well. And then you’ve got Rasmus Anderson obviously who by all accounts will be traded at some point this season. We just have to figure out where Vegas would still love to make that happen. I just don’t know how they pull it off financially. if you’re the Flames. Like again, I like what you brought up, like so much went right last year and you go, “Oh, maybe the kids take a step forward.” But the thing when you bank on that is like if everything goes right and you miss the playoffs to make the playoffs the next year, everything’s got to go right and then some more stuff’s got to go right. So, I don’t know. I look at them and like I I think it’s always a bad idea to rip it down to the studs or it’s usually a bad idea to rip it down to the studs because that’s how you end up like a San Jose or a Chicago and your rebuild takes a decade where Yeah. or Edmonton when they had to rebuild six times. But like Montreal for example, not that they had like star level guys, but like you keep the Gallaghers and you know last year they didn’t trade Mike Mat, Josh Anderson, like you keep the framework around that when your young kids come in it’s like oh look everyone slots in perfectly. So if you’re Calgary like maybe you keep a Hubardo and a Cadrey but like you have two first round picks already this year. Can you get one for Anderson? Could you get one for Coleman who’s got two years? And then like this doesn’t have to be a three-year process. They could hypothetically rack up four first rounders in this next draft. And like maybe we’re talking a year and a half from now that they’re just like Montreal. Yeah. And and and they’re high on their kids. Like right now they’re they’re obviously Coronado’s in the tough love uh block or whatever the hell they’re doing with him at the moment. Um but whatever it takes to light a fire under some of these guys. So, you know, I get it. you’re in a tough predicament, so you’ve got to you’ve got to do this with some of your guys. But I I agree with you. I I don’t think they need to go through a full tear down. Um but I think they waited a little bit too long to start a retool type of type of movement. Like I like what they did last season by bringing you by making that deal with Philly and you bring in Frost, you bring in Fabby. I think they want to do that again. And it’s obviously no secret they’re still in the market for a 2C um and and somebody that can that can kind of stabilize their top six, but I mean it’s it you don’t have to rip this apart. Um so you have to do you have to work about this strategically. Um, and that’s why I look at guys like Coleman being a a prime target because you could probably strike while the iron’s hot because that caliber player isn’t usually that readily available. Um, excuse me. And you’re going to get a good return. You’re going to get a quality return for for a guy like like Coleman, who also, by the way, he’s got no trade protection. I think it’s a 10 team list, approved list, so he’s going to have some some say. Um, I can’t imagine if they’re in the bottom by February or right after the Olympics that he would be against the potential of chasing another Stanley Cup somewhere else. Is there any possibility that Edmonton and Calgary could be trade partners? And I know that maybe seems outlandish for some, but like it’s only a couple of years ago they traded two players to Vancouver in the same division as Calgary. That is Calgary. Yeah. So, is there a possibility? Oh, with term though, I don’t know. H I guess anything’s possible. Yeah. But I would be pretty damn surprised if if something like like are you referring to Coleman? Yeah. Yeah. Cuz man and Coleman when Mania Pony is 35 goal season, the guy on the other wing was Blake Coleman. Good observation, Brian Williams. Like there’s there’s there are some correlations there certainly. Um I mean that’s the caliber player if I’m the Oilers that I’m looking for. Yeah. I I just I I I mean, you’re gonna have to pay a bit of of a higher premium than other teams outside of the division and outside of the province if if you want to if if you want to pull that off. And and I don’t know if that’s necessarily something that Bowman’s going to explore and is willing to do. But but that caliber player, if I’m Bowman and the Oilers, that’s absolutely the type of guy that I’m looking at this season. Yeah. Five on five score who can be disruptive. It makes sense. Uh, David, enjoy game five tonight. Hopefully, it’s a Blue Jays win and we’ll chat with you again next week. That’d be great. All right, boys. Peace. See you. See you. You know the worst part about having Blake Coleman? If he did become an Oiler, unfortunately, he kicks the puck into the net so often. Maybe throw back to game five 2022. Yeah. And then the Oilers end up winning that series, I’d say, in overtime for Calgary fans. Didn’t Yanmark beat his ass, too? Yanmar did beat his ass. Maybe we don’t want Blake Coleman. Or maybe we do. Maybe maybe we trade Yamov. There we go. I was hoping he’d come to that conclusion. Um I’m your huckleberry dropped in a comment and said uh keep the baseball talk going even though it’s a hockey channel. There’s I don’t know what’s going to happen tonight. Yesterday I was a little bit more down in the dumps. I was like man two series. You just lost a heartbreaker. George Springer’s not playing. Like oh man Otani’s on the mound. I was feeling a little down about that baseball game. tonight. You’ve beaten Blake Snell already and gotten to him a little bit. And my only prediction, the only thing that I feel very strongly about in my blood in my plums. In my plumes. That’s what I wanted to say and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go there. They will not lose game six on Friday. I’m so confident in it. So confident in it. They will not lose game six on Friday. If they’re down 3-2, they’ll force game seven. I don’t know what would happen in game seven. The Dodgers would have a pretty big edge considering how deep their rotation is. If they win tonight, put the champagne on ice on Friday. They’re gonna win game six no matter what. I feel that. Do I trust the Savage? Absolutely. Someone earlier was like, “Who’s the Blue Jays best pitcher?” It’s the rookie. Treya Savage is their best pitcher. I mean, Kevin Gosman, I probably shouldn’t disrespect him here, but like in terms of takeover, dominate the game ability, it’s Treya Savage all the time. So, just to swing this back a little bit, something people talk about in the chat. Mhm. Do you think Thomas Holly’s a lock for the Olympic team? the way people talk about him as if like he is up there with I think the Mac and all those guys on this team. I don’t know if he’s a lock. Like I’m not saying he’s out of the question by any means, but at the end of the day, he didn’t make the Four Nations roster. He was basically just the one guy that didn’t go on vacation, but he played well. He did play well. He played well. He earned some trust there 100%. And I think Pete the boy is still the coach on this team despite not having a job in the NHL. But again, like, and I know we all look at Bousard and think like, what the hell has he been doing this season? And I agree with you all, but then you look at the playoffs and he always beat Dallas and Booard was the best defenseman in that series and Thomas Harley struggled. It’s all I’m saying. By that logic though, Steu Skinner should be in the Olympic team. Think he could be in the conversation more and more because Montbo has been horrendous. Yep. Jordan Bennington, who I think is probably a lock um has struggled as well, but he also struggled going into it last season. Yeah. And uh who was the other fell? Aiden Hill. He’s still out, right? So not going to hold against anything against him. I think he’s a good goalie. I don’t know. Like I just think he’s not as much of a lock. I’m trying to think of the six off the top of my head, but like it’s interesting. And maybe if like a guy like Sanheim falls out, for example, then no Canadianb born defenseman has played more minutes this season time on ice per game than Travis Sanheim. really. I I He’s not a bad player to be. He was just a very surprising name to see on that roster. I think like you have to remember that like they’re not just they can’t pick a bunch of power play guys. You need penalty killers. You need someone with some muscle. They’re playing on NHL ice. It’s not Olympic ice. Sounds like Evard. Well, that I see I almost think Bard would be better on the bigger ice. Uh sorry, I meant my comment before you said the the ice, but yeah, I mean maybe. Sure. So, like I think the interesting decisions for team Canada like who are your locks? Macar’s a lock. Moresy’s a lock. Um, which I agree Morrisy should be on this team, but it’s also so ironic that they’re like how can we take all these power play guys because we have Macau. Morris is a good PK guy though. I agree. Bad plays kill. Like I think he should be and I’m not saying Morrisy shouldn’t be on his team. I’m not trying to discredit you, but it’s just like the conversation is just ironic. And I’m I So like here’s where I’m curious like do they take Devin Taves again or Devon Taves to play with Macar? Probably. probably. Do they take both Paro and Sanheim? That’s a big question for me. I think Parco is going. You think they like Pico enough? I just think Yeah, I do. I don’t know. I I don’t know if I would personally take him. I mean, is him or Sam very similar style? That’s what I mean. So, like do they take both Paro and Sanheim? Do they take Drew Dowy? Do they take Matthew Schaefer? Well, and like they have another debate in and we don’t need to do this today because like it’s a good It was just brought up. I know it’s a good topic to have like for an off day, but like do they want Matthew Schaefer to get that experience as like a put him on as your seventh D? Like I think they might see more value in bringing a Schaefer over a Bard, which is crazy, but like No, I I 100% don’t think that’s out of the question. Do they see who do they see more value in having on that team, Mlin Celibbrini or Anthony Celli? Mark Shaley or Mr. Anthony Cabbrini. Who do they see more value in having on that team? Connor Baddard or I don’t know insert the bottom six winger here. Travis Kaknne. Yeah. Yeah, probably Bernard, right? Like I It’s interesting. It’s very interesting. Kale Macau and Devonte currently lead the league in plus minus. Correct. Devontaves one point on the season. Canadian born insane. Canadian born defenseman sorted by plus minus. Mar Taves Moresy Parker Weatherspoon. Who would you rather have Parker Wtherspoon or Nikita Coutrov? You obviously that Parker Wther Spoon was the pick Calgary took ahead of Cuch. I’ll maybe one or two or something like that. That’s tough. Uh we do have another guest joining us at the top of the hour, but for now um let’s get to what’s trending brought to you by Oh, Liam, this is an exciting one. It’s brought to you by the Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament. It’s back. We’re going back to Jasper this January. I cannot wait. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge hosts this event every year with CH Hockey. It is January 23rd to 25th. 3 days of pure hockey paradise on beautiful Lake Mildrid surrounded by your crew, the Rockies, and us at the Nation Network. It’s not just the Oilers Nation crew. The Flames Nation crew is going to be there as well. A ton of very special guests. So, we can’t wait. Mark your calendars. January 23rd to 25th, the Jasper Pondi tournament is back. So obviously that announcement was trending. Um the NHL had its frozen frenzy last night, Liam. 16 games on tap. Five of them went to overtime and there were some wild standout performances. Connor Bard on the heels of a video of him being drunk at a bar going viral scores his first career hatrick. There’s a video of him. Oh, and he was he was in that mood where like it looked like he had 20 beers and his eyes were like a little like I saw a video of someone else on another team that has been healthy scratched at the bar the other day after a loss. Yeah, I saw that too. Um, but anyways, Connor Baddard, I saw a very funny tweet where he’s like, “Conor Baddard just went through an experience that every 20-year-old man goes through being way too hung over at your job and being surprisingly good at it.” I thought that was good. But he got his first career hat. He’s scoring at a 48 goal pace. He’s had a good start to the season. That Chicago team is uh under underrated, I would say. They’re they’re a lot better. It’s these young teams are so hard to judge because you got San Jose who I think everyone knew they weren’t going to be very good but thought they were going to be a little bit improved. Had a terrible start to the season and Chicago have been fairly consistent. Yeah, fairly consistent. Uh Cole Cfield scored another overtime winner yesterday. Wasn’t it like his 11th in his career? 11th career. Sets the franchise record for the Habs. 8.6% of his career goals are overtime winners. I’d rather have Broberg. Oh, that’s so nasty, man. I love too like in overtime we see this with our beloved Edmonton Oilers. Sometimes guys get like way too selfless and they’re like oh you got to pass it into the net and like wait till you get a clean look. I love that he was like how about I walk around everybody and then just bank it off the goalie. Like again I think a lot of guys would have taken this behind the net and been like I got to set it up and slow down. Like playing with pace in threeon-ree overtime is is a lost art. I feel like could this be I would one day? Uh probably not. I I don’t think he I don’t think he quite skates as well, but he’s uh got the same mentality. He does. Um so like a lowercase version, maybe he doesn’t skate as well, and I don’t think his shot is quite as good, but I do think you’re right. Maybe some similar characteristics and a stylistic kind of play. I mean, who knows? Like Cole Coughfield, his first his first season was 23 goals in 67 games. Pretty good. Yeah, it’s pretty good. I’d rather have Bro. What a dumb that [ __ ] pisses me off so much. Uh we have to do my history it’s going to quality start meter at some point. What are you What are you doing? Uh cuz that’s trending. That is trending. Currently trending in the YouTube chat and the chat voted for a so performance. That’s surprising. I would have been thumbs down. I think I was so so too to be honest Aaron if you want to pull it up there. So so for Stuart Skinner yes against against Utah. I did have him as a down but I think he made some decent saves down the stretch. the Oilers didn’t lose the game from his mistake. I don’t know. It wasn’t great. It could have probably been bad to be honest. It was one of those that was probably more of a uh a sideways but like slightly down but not fully down. It’s at uh it’s at like 4:00 or if you were the other way, it’s at like six o’clock. Sure. Yeah. Tyler and Liam learned clocks. Yeah, four o’clock seems fair, but still a decent start to the season for him. What’s that? Three thumbs up, two thumbs down, two sideways. Yeah. So, if you miss this whole thought exercise, Liam is sick of the save percentage stat. It’s terrible. And thinks it’s not a good way to measure goalies. So, instead, a more objective way to measure if a goalie is good or not is to give them a thumbs up, a thumbs down, or a thumbs sideways after every game. Exactly. He hasn’t allowed more than three goals in a game yet this season. It’s pretty good stat. That’s actually really good. Yeah, it’s really solid. And he’s got three thumbs ups. Three thumbs up. I think he could have been credited for a couple more saves towards the end of the game to be honest, too. But what did you like? You don’t like it? I just think it’s so funny. You should add different elements like a pat on the back. You know, just some some We don’t want to make it too complicated. Yeah. This is why percentage comes in stings. It’s just a bad step because then it’s going to turn into your QB ranking list where there’s like nine things we can give Stuart Skinner. Yeah. We just need three. I think it’s pretty simple. I think we can all agree good, bad, and fine. Last you would have gone bad. Sorry. You would have I think I would have gone bad. Okay. I think so. So is fair. Um I want one more thing in what’s trending then we’ll get to our second guest. Um ticket prices for game six. I’m on fansfirst.ca which usually has like the cheapest tickets. Getin price for game six on Friday in Toronto $1,445 a ticket. That is your getin price on Friday. On Friday. But it’s Halloween. Oo. These prices are spooky. That’s gonna be a pain in the ass, isn’t it? Why? Well, that trying to waste a game. Dingdong, trick or treat. You got run downstairs. Happened last year. The others played uh the others played Nashville. I miss Pod Coulson’s fight of the door giving out candy. Usually though in Edmonton cuz it gets dark so late. Trick-or-treaters are usually done by 6. At least in my neighborhood cuz it’s only like little little kids. Your neighborhood’s ginormous. I know. Yeah. Um so anyways, get in price for the Jay’s on Friday 14450. But that’s general admission, meaning you don’t get a seat. You have to walk around the stadium and like find somewhere to watch it. Oh, really? Yeah. You got to stand. You It’s standing rooms. Like there’s the bars in the outfield. You got to like hope. And I when I went the other day for game seven, like those bars are five people deep. Like you’re like poking your head around looking. The cheapest ticket if you want to actually have your behind in a seat, $1699. That gets you row 12, section 534, way up in uh in in left field. Yeah, I don’t make that kind of money. No, no, no. Um if you want to sit in the lower bowl, get in price is $2,900. Crazy stuff from the Jays. Um but it’s been an alltime instant classic World Series. So, we’re going to talk a little bit of baseball. We’ll talk a little bit of hockey as well as we welcome in our friend Chris Sheets to the Star Mechanical Guest line, Edmonton’s number one plumbing and heating company. It’s a double Star mechanical day. Residential, commercial, 24/7 emergency service. They do it all. They do it well at Star Mechanical. Chris Sheets, you know him and love him from our ferris wheel episode, joins us now. And he’s wearing a hat that I’ve been trying to find for like a full week now. I can’t find it anywhere. It’s sweet. I love those lids. Chris United Sport and Cycle probably gone. I’m assuming when I was there it was like trying to uh get a pumpkin pie at Costco. It was busy around the Blue Jay stuff. I tell you that at that time, and that was last week, I messaged them on Instagram earlier in the week and I was like, “Do you have any more of them?” And they were like, “Yep, we got a bunch left.” I drove there. I did my show, drove there. So, a two-hour time span, they sold out of all of them. That’s how fast they’re going. But Blue Jays Fever’s taken over and that prompted you to fly down to Los Angeles. It did. It did. I Yeah. I I I said I’m not going to the States. I’m not going to the States. I’m, you know, I’m going to I’m not going to the States. uh I don’t like their president. Not to get political and here I am. I’m in the states, you know, one of those guys. It’s like I’m not going, but oh yeah, now I am. Yeah, now that the Blue Jays are good. Um but you were in you were at Dodger Stadium for that 18 ining game, I would imagine. And listen, you’ve been a massive Oilers, Blue Jays fan, all of that, but like that’s got to rank real close to like what top three, top two most memorable sporting events you’ve been to. I can’t think of uh anything that tops it. I’ll be honest with you. I mean, I’ve I you know, I was in uh I was thinking about it. I was in Saskatchewan when the uh the Eskimos uh won the Great Cup. That was uh you know, awesome. Obviously, I was at a Stanley Cup playoff game when the Oilers won the cup. I It wasn’t the the uh the game that they won the cup against Boston. That was awesome. And last two years I’ve been to games of course with the Stanley Cup finals uh happening. But uh just as far as an experience goes and something that you’ll never forget, I don’t think there and you know I I don’t know maybe tonight we’ll top it because we are now going tonight. So we’ll see where that goes. But I don’t think it it’s going to be real tough to top that experience. But you know if if the Jays win um well then then it just might. So I think a question most of us would have and I was curious. I was watching this game. Game goes to 18 innings. What’s the situation with the concessions? Are they reopened? Like, are they just closed from like the eighth inning onwards? Are they still serving beer? What? Yeah. What’s going on? Are you guys just sat there being like, I kind of want this game to end cuz I really need some water. Like, what’s what’s going on, Chris? You know what, Liam? Uh, you’re I’m going to blow your mind. I I brought my wife with me. She’s uh a quieter fan than I am. She hates going into EM and she calls it I don’t like going into enemy territory. So, but but we went I’m gonna set the scene for you. We went two hours early. Um fortunately, I guess Monday was not like we had a record-breaking heat day here yesterday. And they’re they’re calling for the same today. It’s going to be like 35° or something like that. But it was pleasant on Monday. Thankfully, we got to the uh Dodger Stadium a couple of hours early. Took the bus from the Union Station. Got there two hours early. uh ran around kind of checking things out and trying to get, you know, a good view of what was going on. Saw, you know, David Ortiz and the boys down on field level and and and then came back to our seats. We were in the outfield in the bleacher section and I thought I said to Karen, I said, “Let’s let’s I get what do you you like hot dogs? I’ll get you a Dodger dog and a and a and a a water.” So, I got her that at 4:00 there time. So, an hour before the game, we sat down in our seats. We were there for an hour watching the warm-up. We we had uh we’re right by the bullpen so we could see Kirk warming up and it was really awesome. And we sat in our our our bleacher seats and there there’s not an actual seat for you. There’s a number for you, but it’s just a bench. And so we get in our little bench and uh and I’m going, well, you know, this is this is not bad. It’s not that crowded. And then people kept coming and coming and coming and sitting beside us and we got packed in there like sardines in this bench. And uh by the time the game starts, we are in there so tight that I’m, you know, I’m a a fairsized guy. Okay, I’m I’m I’m definitely severely obese. And I literally have to put my arm around my wife and the person beside me to like sit comfortably in our seats. That’s how tight we are. So the game starts and uh we’re not going anywhere. And uh I’m not missing a thing. There’s no chance I’m missing a thing because I just don’t want to, you know, I just don’t want to miss a thing. You want to be there when something cool happens. You think that that’s a good move until you get into about the 12th inning and you haven’t left. Okay. So, so my wife sat beside me without going pee or anything and she’s like a menopausal woman that pees a lot. I don’t know if that’s got anything to do with it, but she did not leave the bench for 16 innings. 16 innings. My wife sat beside me. Like I when she finally left, I told all these Dodger fans around me, I said, “Give this woman a hand. She is a hero among us.” And uh she she went to the bathroom, but I never left. So we, you know, I literally stayed in the exact same place for seven and a half hours. It was crazy. It was just It was nutty. And and and and she never got anything else to drink or eat. And I never, you know, so I don’t know. Long story answer, Liam, I don’t know what happened with the concessions, but a lot of the Dodger fans around us kept coming back with beers and they were getting pretty much hammered. So, I I assume they were still serving stuff. Um, it’s kind of funny the way the universe works and things kind of line up, but you sitting on that ferris wheel for 55 hours or whatever, that ended up being like amazing training. Like, what what eight hours in a seat at a stadium with a ball game in front of you? Who cares? It was no big deal. That was just a warm-up. Exactly. That’s crazy. It Yeah. Yeah, it was crazy. Uh it was it they were the fans were fun, but they were and and they were talking about it on television last night. They’re they they have high expectations for this team and they should. I mean, they they’re the greatest team ever bought and and they’ve got this incredible lineup. And so in the game that we went to, the the Jays ended up having that 4-2 lead and and they were like sad, upset. Uh they, you know, when they were when they were riding high, they were making me high-five them and I was whatever. I’m just like, “Hey, we’re in enemy territory. Okay, I’ll high-five you.” Haha. But when the the Jays got that 4-2 lead, there was nobody high-fiving me. They were they were not happy. So, uh, it’ll be interesting to see the mood tonight because, uh, they they they have extremely high expectations for this team. They they did not they, you know, well, let’s face it. I mean, we’ve just learned a lot of the names of our team, let alone these guys going, “Who is this? What who’s this, you know, this Ernie guy you’re talking about?” and and and uh Lucas and and you I mean they’re they’re they’re they they they can’t understand it, but I think it’s starting to make sense to them about how incredibly scrappy and and how this team just they just play you till they tire your your pitchers out, right? Yeah. And to get like real nerdy baseball here for a bit, like what makes this opportunity so cool as a Blue Jays fan, like any trip to the Worlds, I’ve never seen one obviously in my life. I mean, all I have is the 2015, 2016 years, and like that’s it in terms of playoff success as a Blue Jays fan. And I’m someone who watches, you know, 140 to 150 games a year, but like to have them make the World Series and be presented with this opportunity where you’re not just going up against like another scrap. It’s not like the Cardinals went on a miracle run and like you’re playing the Cardinals or whatever. You’re playing a super team, a team that’s go already going down in the history books and you have a chance to beat them and now you’ve already pushed them further than any pundit south of the border was willing to give you credit for. It’s such a unique opportunity to like this would be a all-time historic World Series win. Absolutely it would. And and I agree with you about the baseball angle too. Uh uh Tyler, the fact that you know I I I bet you I watched 150 150 of the games this year are portions of them, right? So you’re so invested as a baseball fan to uh to the team that when you get to this point and and and you know I was watching last night, we didn’t go to the game, so we watched the Fox coverage of it and they’re on Otani like crazy and they should be. He’s probably going to go down in history as one of the greatest, if not the greatest athlete of all time. But they’re just on him and talking about him and talking about him all game. And I’m like, is this what other fans feel like when they watch a Conor McDavid game, you know what I’m saying? Because I’m like, “Okay, enough enough about him already. I get it. I get it. He’s special.” But, uh, and he is special, but if if if the Blue Jays can beat him uh based on the decision that he made, and you know, whatever. He you know, I I get it. It’s 34 degrees here today. I mean, I understand why he made the decision he made in some respects, but it would just be it would be an absolutely incredible thing. And, you know, the fact that they’re Canada’s team and uh it’s it’s just it just all really lines up to to being so special. Uh we’re fighting through this a little bit right now, me more specifically, I guess. But as we Yeah. As we watch the Oilers go through just a relatively miserable October as they do, there are some people who are angry about it like they have been in years past. There are people like me, I’m having a tough time caring about anything Oilers right now when the Blue Jays stakes are so high and like the Jays game’s going on, the Oilers are down two nothing to Utah and I’m like I don’t care. Are you having similar like Oilers fatigue where you like almost forget they’re playing cuz it’s just all Jays? I I can’t I can’t believe it, but I told Karen yesterday uh the the Oilers are playing and I knew that because my my daughter works for the team. That was the only reason I knew. Uh, and and the and and and then I said, I have no idea who they’re playing. And the last time that would have happened in my life would have been in 1978, like before the Oilers were in the league. Like I had I had no I had no idea who they were playing last night. And I was like, “Oh, the Mammoth. How are they doing?” And then I’m like, “Oh, they’re like one of the best teams in the league.” I had no idea. Like for something like for me to lose focus of that, this is pretty crazy. like because uh like honestly all that normally ever matters to me is who the Oilers are playing next. Yeah. Um well then we can just catch you up on everything really really quick. Um they’re both out of a playoff spot. They’re 54 and two so just five wins in 11 games. Conor McDavid’s up to three goals after last night though. That’s pretty good. Um and we haven’t seen Zack Heyman yet this season and the goalending still kind of sucks. So there you go. Stuart No. Yeah. Steuart Skinner’s getting thumbs up from Liam. I know that. That’s what we’re reviewing. I want to just I want to say a couple of things that tie hockey and and baseball in. When you’re at a game uh like we were at Dodger Stadium, uh the NHL has and I mentioned this on our podcast yesterday, the NHL’s got to get goal songs for these players. Like the these walk up songs for the uh the batters, the the the songs that they play for the pitchers and things like that are just they they take the whole experience to the next level when it comes to baseball. And I just I just I think that they should be doing goal songs and and and finding ways to incorporate that into the NHL. I don’t know what the goal songs would be for the different players, but when Otani comes up, he’s got like the Michael Boué song, I feel good. And every time it starts, it’s like the the place goes crazy. You’re well, we get all nervous cuz he’s coming up to bat and and uh I you know, I know it’s different in hockey, but I I think they should they should do that because it would be a a great thing. Yeah, it is kind of cool. Like my favorite thing that’s become a part of baseball over the last four or five years is the closer entrances are nuts. Like when I was in game seven and the Jays are three outs away from winning the World Series and they do Jeff Hoffman, lights turn off, everyone pulls out their phones and it’s like this weird kid cuddy song and everyone kind of hums along to it and he walks out and you know he’s tall and lanky so he’s got like that little strut to him like it is really really cool. And the Otani thing, too. Like, you hear the first chord of his song if you’re a Dodger fan, and you just start going nuts. Oh, it it’s crazy. And Yeah. And and and and they do that now for not just the uh the closers, but all the pitchers that come in and somehow they turn all the lights off and and and you know, the big spotlights are all kind of going around the the whole place. I I’m so old. I remember when they turned those spotlights off in arenas, it took them 15 minutes to fire back up. Like that that’s that’s changed. if they turned the lights off, you know, they were off and halfway through the first period. So, yeah. So, the technology has changed, but uh yeah, let’s I’m I’m glad to hear I I know the Oilers are, you know, half jokingly. I know the Oilers are are uh are are doing well. They’re probably all also worried about the Blue Jays right now. You know, once the World Series gets done, they’ll they’ll start locking it down. But it sounds like last night they um they had a good second period. I kind of had it on, but then the stream stopped, which was a big deal, I guess, for a bunch of people for baseball and hockey. And uh yeah, that the Oers the Oilers will be they they’ll be fine. They’ll they’ll figure it out. And it’s so hard after the last two years to get excited in October when, you know, we we know what June is like. Yeah, that that’s a good point as well. Um my prediction that I gave earlier was I have no idea what’s happening tonight, but I will be betting a lot they will not lose on Friday. them coming back with a World Series game in Toronto game six. Whether they’re up 3-2 or down 3-2, they are winning that game on Friday. But how do you feel heading into tonight? Snell versus Yavage part two. I think you Savage is going to going to have a better game. I think that uh you know, obviously at 22, he’s going to he’s going to learn his lessons and and and uh there’s something special about that kid. I hope you’re right, Tyler. I know that he’s at Yamamoto pitches on Friday for them and he’s been kind of unhitable. So, uh, but, uh, yeah, they find a way if they can find a way, uh, tonight. Um, you know, either way, they’re in in in a good in a good position, I think. But, but, uh, I I I think they’re going to they’re going to find a way to win tonight because Okay. Well, I’ll just say really quickly the the whole focus for the the Dodgers was not just to win the World Series, but was to win it at home. Like, I could tell that’s all they wanted to do. They had uh uh Jason Baitman and uh Sean Hayes from the Smartless podcast that came before the first game there and then they said, “All right, everybody, we haven’t won a a World Series at home in in 35 years or 40 years or whatever it was.” He says, “We’re going to win tonight and we’re going to win tomorrow night and we’re going to win the night after that.” And I’m thinking, why are you saying that? You’re putting so much pressure on your team. This is ridiculous. But that was the thing. They didn’t just want to win the World Series. They wanted to win it at home. now that they can’t win it at home. I I honestly think that uh the Blue Jays are in the driver’s seat again tonight. So, because the fans are going to be on them, uh they’re they wanted to win it at home. And go Jays, go. All right, Chris. Appreciate you popping on. Uh co-host of the Talking Sheets podcast and you got a new episode up as well with Bailey talking about your experience in LA. So, we’ll direct people over there. But, thank you for giving us some time today. Enjoy the ball game tonight. Hey, thanks for having me, guys. Y there you go. Chris Sheets, radio legend in Edmonton. and now co-host of the Talking Sheets podcast and living the kind of life where he just gets to go to LA for the World Series. That’s I am jealous. I am jealous of that. Um, let’s get to a comment from a diehard fan who says, “I can’t take this Oilers slander. I’m so sick of hearing about baseball. I could not care less about that.” In in quotation marks, sport. I have one word for you. I don’t care. That was three words. Uh, that was awesome. Yeah, Chris Eats is the best. What country he lives in? He says, “Baseball doesn’t exist in my country.” I have breaking news. Zack Heyman will not play this week. Yep. And he’s out at least another week. So that means November whatever 6th. Yeah. 67. [ __ ] Why’ you do it? Don’t say stuff like that. I have other breaking news. Okay. Just to quickly, there was there was speculation obviously from the get-go that he’d be ready to go for November 1, which was Saturday against the Blackhawks. And now it seems like his earliest return date return date would be Saturday, October 8th or Saturday, November 8th against the Avalanche. Fumbled my way through that. More news, Liam. The Edmonton Elks have extended Tyrell Ford until 2027. Not Trey Terrell. No, this comes only days after the starting QB on the Elks told trade to essentially leave the team. Fardo said that. He said he said he’s like it’s probably and I didn’t hear the exact quote from him but I saw on Twitter being like probably time for him to find somewhere else to go and Mark Kllum the head coach kind of also agreed. Yeah. Uh not breaking news but news stat news. Uh just based off the goalending conversation we had a little bit earlier. Uh Jason Greger is in. He said this season the NHL has a 2.91 goals against average and a save percentage of 895 which are the averages. That is down from this point last season. I believe this is the this point last season which was 2.81 goals against and 900 900 save percentage. All right. Interesting. Fourth year in a row he’s been down. Fifth year sir. Can we bet on Noyman this year from Wman? Uh he’ll play. I mean, listen, I don’t think this is going to linger the way other injuries have. Like, we’ve seen him or we saw him skating and all of that, right? Yeah. He’s been skating. He’s been skating perfectly fine. And I also don’t blame the Oilers for sitting there at 54 and two on the year and being like, you know what, we’re not going to rush him back, which is a better start than last year. Better start than last year. That is correct. Um, and also, you can kind of look at the schedule they have coming up here. Like, you get the Rangers tomorrow on home ice. The Rangers are not having a very good season. Um, they Rangers, by the way, four, five, and two. They have just four wins in their first 11 games. Interesting. Um, yeah. I don’t know. I’m just not worried about this week coming up. Like you showed yesterday, if you play well, you can beat anyone on home ice. Chicago’s coming up obviously on Saturday as well, but like I don’t know. As much as they’re a good story that they don’t strike a ton of fear into me. You get St. Louis on the road next week. They’re sputtering along right now. Like I think you have enough chances here to keep grabbing points and staying afloat. You do not need to rush back someone like a Zackman. No. All right. Uh, let’s wrap up the show for our friends at Bet365. Download the app today. Use the promo code Nation. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary at Bet365. So, I did the 16 leg parlay yesterday. Liam, you did better than I did. Yeah. So, I went 11 for 16. This is really good. I went I went nine for 16. I hit a few dogs. Yeah, I hit a couple of dogs, too. Um, who did I hit as uh dogs? So, it was one, two, three, four. Yeah, I lost five of them. Um, I hit Chicago as a dogs. I did, too. And Oh, that was actually the only dog I hit. I Chicago as a dog. Um, that was it. So, I thought I had like three. Here are the five. Here are the five I missed. It’s actually pretty crazy how close this was. I know. I missed by five games. Uh, I had under six in Tampa and Nashville. Empty net ruined it. Lost by a goal. I had over five and a half Anaheim Florida lost by a goal. I had under six and a half Columbus Buffalo lost by a goal. And then I had Penguins money line. They lost in a shootout. But did you see what happened in that game? It was like a brawl in overtime. No, no, no. Even after that, the Penguins scored, but Stardov, sorry, didn’t get to the bench quick enough and Malcolm came on the ice too soon. So, they like went to pull their goalie and I and the didn’t end up counting as a goal. What? Yeah, I believe that’s what happened. Anyway, uh and then I had the Hurricanes over the Golden Knights and Jack Eel just went like insane mode in the final 10 minutes of that game and won it for him. So, yeah. Uh tonight there’s only one game in the NHL. It’s Columbus and Toronto. So, a real barn burner there. That might be the least watched NHL game of the season considering all the Leafs fans are going to be watching the Jays. Casual hockey fans in Canada are probably also watching the Jays. Is it on the road? Um yes. Okay, that’s a that’s good for Toronto. Yeah, it’s on the road. It’s in class. Like like I don’t really have much sympathy at all for Maple Leafs fans, but like at least the ones who were thinking like [ __ ] do I watch the Blue Jays or do I pay for my season ticket price and go and watch the Maple Leafs at least have to do that now? Uh Ms. Lickens and it might be Kaden Primo going for the Leafs. Kaden Primo. Golly, he’s unconfirmed right now on DFO, but he is listed there for right now. Um, yeah, there you go. Just one game in the NHL tonight. Uh, I can give you all a bet for bet 365. I did a same gamer on Daily Face Off today that was over 6 and a half cuz I’m hoping it’s Kaden Primo. Uh, Boon Jenner two plus shots. He’s been crushing it. Austin Matthews, four plus shots and a Matthews point comes out to plus 375. So, there you go. Interesting start there from N23. Rangers still not won a game at home this season. Yeah, they’re 04-1 at home and 4-1 and one on the road. They beat the Canucks two to one yesterday. I think Kevin Lankinham played, did he not? I don’t even know. Yeah, had a big yawn there. Getting sleepy. Hopefully, we’ve seen um a change in the Oilers mentality here. Yeah, I am going to buy into my theory that they were just struggling on the road. And that’s fair too. Early season road trips where you’re getting other teams who are fired up at home like an eight game road trip. Yeah. I’m not like I know they came home for a game, but like they came and left. Yeah. Like Yeah, exactly. Like it was Aaron said east or west. He didn’t say into his mic. So, uh it was a it was a long way. So, we’ll see. They got two games obviously Rangers and then are they at home on the weekend or on the road? Uh home. Okay. Nice. So, home to Chicago. Bit of a sleep. Two more home games here. Win them both and like you feel so good about your season. And that’s why I said don’t panic. You’re fine. All goalie reviews tomorrow. Who have we got tomorrow? Probably Shist Sturken. Probably Shist Sturken. Yep. Can’t really see a scenario where they’re not starting him with rest. And Jonathan Quake, the Oilers torch him. Also, I’m pretty sure the Oilers, we’ll talk about it tomorrow, but I’m pretty sure the Oilers also have Shisturkin’s number. We’ll go through it in my goalie review. Goalie review tomorrow. It’s been good in backto-back days. Um, to wrap up with a little bit of World Series talk, Blue Jays underdogs. To kick off this one, give me Treya Savage’s strikeout prop. I think he’ll find a way to get some strikeouts. What’s that at? Sorry. Four and a half. Uh, yeah, four and a half. All right. is his walkout song I’m a savage no damn it that would be good another thing um what’s his name uh show Otani walking out to a Michael Bubbly song let’s figure that out Canadian boy good good Canadian lad in Michael and then we got the guy who turned down Canada not just Toronto Canada using his song. I don’t care how good they’re feeling. Show find something else to do. Yeah, Jay’s are plus 170 on the money line again today. Holy holy big dogs. Uh we had someone in there who said you guys should start a life advice segment on the show where people can submit questions to you. I’m down. Might get sued for that one. I’m so down for that. You can uh if you have uh something you want Liam and I’s advice on that isn’t sports related, you can just email me tylernation.com. Yeah, I I’ll do my best. Yeah, we’ll we’ll try to sort it out for you. If you have one right now, I’ll throw it in the chat. We’ll see if we can get it started. You can uh and we’ll do it totally anonymously as well. Sure. Unless you put it in the chat right now and then we’ll have But if you if you email me with like a problem you’re having, we’ll try to solve your problem for you and we’ll do it totally anonymously. Yes. Erin, do you have any problems or you’re good? No, I’m actually chilling. I’m going on vacation next week, so I’ll be with us next week. Yeah, you’re going to the Dominican during hurricane season. So, if you’re a local content creator and you want to host our pre and postgame show going forward, you might be open for the rest of the season. Just keep an eye on the weather app. Andrew just commented flag game five times. Pull up a flag, Aaron. All right. Any flag. Make it an easy one. Don’t Don’t screw me on the spot here. The people did love flagging. We didn’t play it enough over the summer. But the other thing, too, is like you’re so many flags and you’re too good at it. So, like it’s not really much of a game. It’s just Liam naming flags. Yeah, I’ve not really warmed up either recently. Yeah, so we’ll see. I’ve been playing Geog Grid though a lot recently thanks to your friend Skook. He introduced you to your bachelor party. That was good. Well, this is unfair cuz that could be a couple of things. What do you got? It’s either Monaco or Indonesia. It is one of those two. What’s the difference? I think one is like slightly smaller than Maybe red’s on the bottom. No, cuz right on the bottom is Poland, isn’t it? I guess I’ll just say Indonesia. Correct. Yeah, I think Monaco is like a little bit tighter. I don’t know if I’ve ever stumped you. Honestly, it’s No, you did that one time. It was Kurabat. Oh, yeah. I really threw me. I felt bad about that one. There’s literally like no difference. No, you’re all wrong. Caleb’s the only one that gets it right. Caleb, you don’t win anything, but thanks for playing along. You know what game I started watching yesterday? The floor. You ever watched that one? It’s hosted by Rob Low. Yeah, it is a bad show. So, basically there’s a quickly they’re doing this one for the states. How many states? 50 states, right? Of course. Should know that by now. So, they have a grid of 50 people, two people from each state. So, that would actually be a grid of 100 people and everyone has their own specific category. And then you go up and you essentially challenge the person you’re playing against from your category. So it could be anything. Like someone’s was stamps, someone else’s was pet supplies, and they just go up there and they one v one battle on a category in trivia. Yeah. And they just like put up like it’ll just like say it’s flags. I’ll throw up a flag about England and it like goes back and forth. Yeah. I think it’s like 45 seconds. I was watching yesterday and I just needed something different to watch um other than Bob’s Burgers. So and it’s just like this is so dumb. So, I just wanted to get that out there. Terrible show. Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it. Maybe if you’re looking for like a quick 30 minutes. Armenia. Bang. Go ahead, Ty. Uh, too slow. Zimbabwe. I thought I thought Lavia. Uh, Luxmbourg. Netherlands. Damn it. Luxembourg might not be a country. Denmark. Easy one. Bang. Oh, I know this one. No, no, no. Uh, that is Morocco. It’s not. [ __ ] Oh, did you know that? Yeah, of course. South Korea. I knew that. We don’t take that flight off. Go ahead. Oh. Uh, this one. Um, Cameroon. No. Sagal. [ __ ] I was between those two. I would have picked Cameroon. Uh, oh, Estonia. Yes, we’re doing well, boys. Uh, Turkmanistan. Tyler, I’m not bad at this. Oh, what the hell? Nepal. And is it actually that shape? Yeah. Weird. Did they not get the memo on what flags were supposed to be? I think this one’s St. Vincent and whatever. [ __ ] You’re a machine. You’re a machine. Switzerland. Bang. I can get the easy ones. Oh. Uh, Barus. There you go. Hockey countries, man. Uh, oh, Liam, what is it? This is Uganda. Walk us off. Uganda. Bang. All right, everybody. Tomorrow’s a game day edition of the show. We should have Jeff Merrick on the program as well. Also plenty of fun to be had tomorrow on Oilers Nation every day. Let’s go Blue Jays. Uh if they’re up 3-2, I’m going to be in a great mood tomorrow. But enjoy your Wednesday. Enjoy the baseball game everybody. We’ll see you tomorrow. Noon Mountain Oil up. What’s up, Nation citizens? The Edmonton Oilers are BACK! After a sluggish road trip, the Oilers returned to home ice in style with a massive 6-3 win over the Utah Hockey Club. It was a vintage Edmonton performance — five even-strength goals in one period and a reminder of just how dangerous this team can be when they find their groove.

Tyler and Liam will break down the full game recap, including Stuart Skinner’s tough mistake behind the net and his strong bounce-back to close out the game. We’ll talk about what went right, who stood out, and why last night felt like a turning point for this Oilers squad.

Next up, we’ll be joined by NHL insider David Pagnotta for the latest news and rumours from around the league — including potential trade chatter and early-season storylines to watch.

Plus, we’ll dive into what’s trending in the sports world, including the Toronto Blue Jays’ big Game 4 win to even the World Series at two games apiece. Finally, we’ll wrap it all up with some daily betting talk courtesy of Bet365.

  1. I feel like team chemistry and lines are all based on mitigation. Ekholm has to pair with Bouch to cover his deficiencies; Walman has to pair with Nurse to limit his bonehead plays. Only excusable if you’re nurturing a young prospect, not highest paid defensemen on your roster.

  2. Frederic is not earning his money. I dont think the Oilers got him to drive the offense of any line. He needs to be physical and be a thorn to the opposition, especially the oppositions defense! Frederic better not have NTC
