Seahawks blow out Commanders as Jayden Daniels suffers arm injury | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
Five words or less time. The Seahawks beat the Commanders 38-4. I’ll give you the floor. They are Super Bowl contenders. Well done. Right. I wasn’t sure. There’s a lot of syllables there, so that was confusing. That’s true. We’ve had an issue. Five words versus five syllables. Somebody thinks the word words means syllables. So, you’re good. Uh, yep. So, but but I and I’ve said this to a few people, right? Just like on, you know, we both go on talk radio around the country and they go, “Hey, what’s one team that, you know, nobody’s thinking about to say watch out, right? The the the Seattle Seahawks are that team for me to go like I know everybody looks go, oh yeah, they’re six and two, but I don’t think everybody’s quite giving them credit for as good as they are.” I think that’s what jumps out to me. Seattle to me with what you’re seeing them do on the offensive side of the ball. Their O line plays better. Sam Darnold’s on fire. Jackson Smith and Jigba is actually qu making me question whether he’s not the best receiver in football. That that’s how good he is. I’m not saying he is, but he’s in there with Puka and Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson. There’s no denying it. There’s none. He’s incredible that way. Their defense, you know, I wax poetically about their defense. I like their defense. It’s ass kickers everywhere. They got a big physical front seven. When their secondary is healthy, which you got closer to last night, it’s a special secondary. Their coach special on the defensive’s side of the ball between Mike McDonald. That was a butt whooping last night. And Seattle is a team that I say, “Yeah, watch out for because I just feel like they’re going upwards on a big way.” Absolutely. And what what a race it’s going to be in the NFC West with the Seahawks, the Rams, and the 49ers going away either. uh for the commanders for me. I had it and now it slipped out of my brain. The season is over. Is that it or is that Did you just bull crap that one? I did. I had another one and I forgot about it cuz I was thinking how beautiful those Seahawks uniforms look and it got me distracted. Why is it that so many teams have throwbacks that are better than their regular uniforms and they don’t just make them their regular uniforms? Well, I I had this conversation a lot yesterday. First off, Washington should wear those uniforms all the time. the best they looked in forever. Okay. And I and again, you know, so Okay, but but I think like it’s what it’s rooted in. Seattle, those uniforms were rooted in losing, right? That that’s the big thing. So it’s that’s why they changed it, right? Like the Orange crush in those uniforms in Denver, they were great, but they were rooted in we lost four Super Bowls in those uniforms, right? New England. Bill Parcels, I know that was one of his first things when he went there. He was like, “Hey, these red jerseys with Pat the Patriot. He’s a loser. We got to get him off. We got to get Elvis the we got to get Elvis the Patriot on there, right?” And he changed it. So, it changed that way. But yeah, then there’s some teams like the Giants where I go, “Wait, we won two Super Bowls in those uniforms and we changed it and went to the other ones. I don’t know why we did that.” And then they won two and they won two again as well. Right. And then they wore those abominations last year for their hundth season. Yes. Right. Right. But but either way, we like the unis. I feel bad for the Commanders. Look, you’re going to lose games. And I think Mike Tico was saying this last night. If this was a game that had been tucked into the cluster of one o’clock Eastern games on a Sunday, you just say, “Ah, you know, you can’t win them all.” Yeah. But when you see it on a national stage, it’s jarring. Like the Vikings 37 to 10 loss. And it makes people think that there’s something seriously wrong. And we’re in the car getting ready to come back from the studio last night and Matthew Barry said, “Should they trade Debo Samuel? They’re going to be three and six.” It’s like, well, you know, in 2012 they were three and six and they they ran the table and they made it to the playoffs. Like I don’t think they’re wired to give up. No, I don’t think they’re wired stunk that year. But but what happened was two plays later, Jaden Daniels suffers the dislocated elbow. Then it’s like, well, you know, yeah, I would trade anyone now. like it’s over now. Well, you’re not going anywhere without Jaden Davis. They’re going to be questioned with everything. They have the oldest team in football by by a significant margin. Any expiring contract or any contract they’re going to tear up after this year should be shopped and potentially traded. Von Miller, I was saying last week, if you’re not going to use Von Miller, whose snap rate per play was higher than Michael Parsons, they’re just playing him one out of four plays. Trade him to a contender. Yeah, trade him to a contender. He could be a possible guy. I don’t know, Debo. Like, what are you gonna have to trade for him and pay him? Like I don’t know if that’s going to be like it’s I don’t know if the teams are going to love that. Right. Annie’s got available though. Anyone’s available. I maybe they will. They maybe they will. But yeah, they they got issues. And again, their their team I’m not shocked to see them not capitalizing here. You know, I was one all year long that never thought they were going to be quite as good as they were last year. They had a horseshoe up their ass and a rabbit up their ass last year. Everything fell right perfectly for them. Plus, they had, you know, the new coach energy bump. what you’re seeing. But the defense stinks. It stinks. And they don’t do very much on that side of the ball. Nor do they have that many great players. They, you know, and and they took some chances on some older guys. Marshon Latimore, Ivon Miller, Javon Kinlaw, Castoffs of other teams not working. Offensive side of the ball, right? Yeah, we got Terry McCorin. We run the ball good. We got Jaden McDaniels, but it’s not necessarily scary that way either. And they give Debo Samuel more money. And we’ve discussed a lot over the last few years. Debo Samuel, he has a hard time getting open against man-to-man coverage. He’s a good gadget guy, but he’s not your like, oh, it’s third and 10. Debo Samuels definitely going to get open against one of the best corners in football. So, yeah, they got questions on their team. And poor Jaden Daniels, that wasn’t good. And that’s what people worried about with Jaden Daniels coming out in the draft. Is he too frail? Is he too skinny? And here’s his second injury of the year. Let me say this because we talk all the time, I know I do, about the importance of quarterbacks protecting themselves because one of the great cliches and cliches are cliches because they are true. Your best ability is availability. And for a franchise quarterback, you can’t be a franchise quarterback if you’re not available to play on a regular basis. It has plagued Tuatong Aloa throughout his career. It is an issue. Just because JJ McCarthy emerged from one game healthy doesn’t mean that there’s not going to be this recklessness. I was saying last week, you have to understand how your body fits in space with 21 others. And you have to find ways to avoid contact. It’s all about avoiding contact because the more you avoid and the more you take, the more you take, the greater the chance that that one extra hit is going to be the thing that injures you. Jimmy Garopolo on the sideline being a meatthead week three of 2018, dropping his shoulder, tears his ACL. RG3, his first game ever with the Browns against the Eagles, drops his shoulder at the sideline and messes it up and he’s out for weeks. Like, you have to know when to get down, when to get out of bounds. And it extends to your head coach because the coach has to know when to get you the hell out of the game. Yeah. The coach has an obligation to protect the quarterback. And Dan Quinn, this is going to be Dan Quinn’s 283. When when it’s close, there’s going to be a year coming up when it’s close, right? It’s going to get him fired. It’s going to be lingering just enough unless like obviously everything goes great and you win Super Bowls, you’re fine. But this is that thing he’s not going to be able to wash off and he should have had Jaden Daniels out of the game Thursday night. Both coaches should have had Lamar Jackson and Tuonga out of a 28 to6 game. You need to know when it’s over and you need to get your key players, your starting quarterback the f off the field. The starting quarterbacks are too important to your team. They’re too important to the game. Jaden Daniel should not have been out there and and Dan Quinn deserves every bit of criticism he’s going to get. Oh, you can’t live in your fears. Well, yes you can. Todd BS got roasted last year for having Chris Godwin in a game late. That game was still in the balance. The Bucks were trying to come back on a Monday night against the Ravens. This was done. There’s no 31point plan in the final seven minutes of a game. It feels like they were just, you know, playing a game in which they were let’s just make the score. Let’s make the score look better for the new It’s the old It’s the old newspaper. when they at the end of the year when the owner looks at it and go they go, “Oh, we didn’t lose that game that bad.” And it’s like, “No, no, you got your ass whooped and you were worried about your own politics here for the job and everything else and that’s why you kept it to 3821. 38 21 looks better than 387.” Exactly. Right. Yep. Feel bad for him. But yeah, I mean, I’m I’m confident in saying it’s over for the Commanders. Marcus Mariano is a really good backup. Um, but I just don’t see enough there. And especially that defense, it’s it’s stinky. They still play the Eagles twice. It’s just done. It’s done. All right. Hi, it’s Mike Florio. Thanks for watching PFT on YouTube.
Jayden Daniels’ gruesome injury cast a pall over a game that showed the Seahawks are a real contender and essentially ended the Commanders’ season. #NBCSports #NFL #ProFootballTalk

My local commentator always says "Discretion is the better part of valor" to refer to situations when a coach takes the safe option, to punt or kick or some other conservative play call. I think it definitely does apply to garbage time and pulling your starters too. Nothing sucks as much as losing your key players to injury in garbage time
You know Seattle is on everyone's radar now when they actually talk about their win instead of the other team's loss
Just don't talk about us…we like it that way. We don't need the national talking heads finally coming around…we're good. GO HAWKS
RG3 part two. SMH.
The “Commanders” always have been and always will be pretenders.
Jayden's elbow doing backflips like Cirque du Soleil
6-2, with their losses coming on touchdowns allowed with 1:50 (and a bit fluky at that) and 1:08 remaining. They're some coin flips away with being 8-0.
I don't mind Seattle, but Baker basically scored on every possession against it. Let's settle down a bit. Their offense is the story
Not gonna lie. It makes me happy when people say 'Why was he out there? You were never gonna beat the Seahawks'.
If anyone thought the commanders were good coming into this game, you haven't watched them play. Either side of the ball. Seattle has had a legit D (and ST) all season. This was neither a surprise nor validation of anything other than Commanders suck.
If you're down by 21+ points and there's less than 10 minutes left in a ballgame you don't have to win, it's time to pull the starters. I don't care that once every 4-5 years, a team makes a comeback under those circumstances. It's not worth the injury risk.
Adam peters sucked this offseason.
They signed a bunch of older guys and traded away draft picks. They cost themselves 2 years of young player development.
The Lattimore trade was a massive mistake.
They will lose Super Bowl and dirty players!!!! Gross! Jsyden Daniel's was SB CONTENDER!!!
Washingtons defense was never good but the offense was capable of putting up plenty of points. Washington has just lost too many key players on the offense, they could never get healthy and now the season is over. Sometimes, teams get hit with the injury bug.
The Seahawks won a Superbowl in 2013.
The 12th man. Their fans are in the Guinness book world records twice. When Mariners ⚾ fans cheered for them the world thought it was Funny.
Typical national media Seattle coverage…..5 words after a great dominating win…then lets talk about the other team.
You could truly fire Quinn and install Kingsberry as a way to day that if you get our QB injured in a blownout game, you crossed an inexcusable line.
Deebo got fat,…lol
How original for them to finally admit that they’re contenders after the whole country sees it on SNF LOL
The Seahawks had some great years in those old uniforns, when Chuck Knox was coach.
Seattle is not a superbowl contender. Please. They played a depleted Washington team with a Pee Wee level Defense.
Is Von Miller worth anything in a trade?
Seahawk Fan here: I wouldn't read too much into the Seahawks win last night. It was a butt whipping, but Washington is crippled right now. But, I would give the game ball to the receivers last night. They caught the ball at the rate of 87.5%, which is ridiculous. Darnold put the ball up as good as I have ever seen a Seahawk QB do, but that is to no avail, if it isn't caught. And some of the receptions were avidly fought by the defense, not just cherry pickers.
Until they get to playoffs and get Sam Darnold
And the Hawks have a young roster. They’ll be around and getting better in future years .
“ I don’t think everyone is quite giving them credit for as good as they are”
We won 10 games last year and before this season you both had us coming last in the division with a losing record.. clown analysts
Hindsight is 20/20 anybody who says why was he still in the game it's because he's only a second-year quarterback he needs as many reps as he can get
Our defense is trash
He is the best wide receiver in the league.Look how many more yards he has than any of the other receivers. He has a 200+ more yards than any receiver in the NFL so you would think he’s the best right, just say it..😂
"I hate The Drake!
How could you not like The Drake?
Everybody loves The Drake!"
Congrats on beating a JV team. Commanders will get blown out rest of the season. Why is the coach not fired yet?? I have no idea😂
1:26 They have a front 6 and while they are physical, they aren’t big.
Byron Murphy, their nose tackle is 310-315
Drake Thomas, the weakside linebacker, 5’11” 225
EJ4, ILB with the green dot is 6’2” 225
Their nickel safety is 6’3” 225 ish as well.
I’d argue that’s a pretty light box compared to the rest of the league.

NBC, pay for some real research.
Chris Simms hit the nail on the head with the uniforms. I dont want to be reminded of decades of mediocrity and only one AFC championship game appearance. By all means, celebrate the players but much of the first 25 years of Seahawks football is worth forgetting.
Man the national media was still sleeping on the Seahawks up until the kickoff at Superbowl 48. This isn’t that team, but just to illustrate the point. I don’t think it hurts us to be ignored as a team, but I’m sure the players are missing out on some revenue by not being household names.
I’m super excited that the NFC West is a heater again! Good memories of those past NFC West teams are flooding back!
I love how people throw Puca in the conversation for best receiver when his teammate is the better of the two and everyone forgot Davante Adams is elite. JSN is #1 to me just ahead of Adams.
Seahawks are back.
Everyone's trying to blame Dan Quinn but 2020 is hindsight that dude was always going to get her
That was like the '13 SB. Absolute asswhippn
1000+ yards in 8 games? How is he NOT the best receiver!?
This is mind-blowing. Sam Darnold, 5 nfl teams. In simple terms in case no one understands, a journeyman bum. Solution, play against the commanders. Commanders coaches should not even be paid. At one point of the game I think Darnold hadn't had an incompletion and also had 4 touchdown throws. As a commanders fan this is truly pathetic.
This reminds me of 2005 when Seattle played and crushed Philadelphia Eagles on prime time.
I love you guys. I love this show, so let’s look at the facts: Florio is not going to ask Dan Quinn why he “ isn’t using Von Miller” during their next interview. Nor will Florio blame DQ for leaving Jayden Daniels in. He will get on this show and ask those questions 😂😂😂😂😂
Joe Flacco to Washington?
He picked them last for the division
Okay listen! Mike, if Washington offers you Debo Samuels for anyone on the roster, please consider it. He is virtually unstoppable when inspired which he would be with us. He won’t mind being a 2 to JSN knowing he’s the best in his own mind. A straight up Woolen for Samuels trade would be sweet!
Like I said in a video before the season started. “You will eat your words once the Seahawks prove you wrong.” What an embarrassment.
