Traded 2 picks including a top 100 pick for this.

  1. We needed receiver depth and a big body receiver after Bub went down. He would make a pretty good red zone target if we could ever fucking get there.

  2. The 2 trades made this year are confusing. Why are we trading for players and not use them or we have to wait for a year to use them?

  3. I’m more invested in seeing what we have with Polk next year since we bought so low on him. I hope he shows out next season.

  4. The idea is fine in theory, they’re just not using him for whatever reason. He’s a big WR on a cheap contract for 3 years and made a lot of tough catches in Denver that moved chains.

  5. Yeah really frustrating decision. He was likely going to be cut by the broncos anyway.

  6. I just think we aren’t using him. When they do throw it to him he catches it. The WR room is just crowded. I can understand getting up to speed the first couple weeks, but it seems like he barely plays. We probably need to move a receiver at the deadline to make room for him. Otherwise he is going to stay at 10-15 snaps a game.

  7. Trading a 4th round pick for a guy who’s only been on the field for 152 offensive snaps when we have a garbage WR corps around him is… rough.

  8. Broncos fleeced us lol. Hopefully shough starts throwing to him. He should be our RZ guy at 6’5.

  9. I don’t watch saints games consistently but I’m shocked you guys haven’t gotten good usage out of Vele. He was a solid #2 behind Sutton last year. I was pissed we traded him. Hope it works out for you I swear he’s actually a super solid WR

  10. Let’s see what happens at the trade deadline. He might be going from rotational to starting for the rest of the season.

  11. Upper management is so cooked. They haven’t had such a shit team in 15+ years, they genuinely don’t know what to do

  12. Could give hime some of Juwan’s targets, but I’m thinking 3 year timeline with all the moves

  13. He’s on a rookie contract but showed out with the Broncos. Basically traded a 4th and a 7th for a guy in his 2nd season who did well in his first. Big bodied WR.

You don’t have to be the receiver every time to do stuff on the field. Like on Shough’s first NFL td pass I think the idea was to throw to Vele, but he was double teamed, and Shough found Juwan instead.

  14. I got downvoted for bringing this up when we traded for him. We are in a long rebuilding phase and giving pics away for role players is beyond insane to me.

  15. No the theory was fine. We’re just not getting him the ball. For example a QB like Allen would prob love Vele and get him the ball.

Saints just don’t have a QB (yet Mendoza?) to do that. I see what the saints are trying to do. We traded for Jalyn Folk as well this year might be a wash but next year we have some good competition in for WRs

  16. We are a one oar row boat until at least 2027 – when the dead cap is no longer a noose. Vele was relatively cheap… despite the pick losses. The receiver corps is negligible – with injuries and ineffective QB play…. Now more so in the Shough experimental phase. All considered, Vele remains a cheap piece with decent upside and can become a competent position player as this ‘more-Moore’ team takes shape.

Chances are ( and should be) that we trade away value pieces in the rebuild… Olave, et al… perhaps Shaheed…towards the eventual reformed team product. Vele is competence… and value.

The one oared row boat is going to be hard to watch, but necessary. Gotta pay down the credit card and make the best of it.

Will offer that… even though we may have witnessed a QB working near his ceiling with Rattler, with it came a greater set of dynamic opportunity than anything seen with the 5 or so quarters we have seen with Shough… He is still slow ( understandably so) in the speed needs of the pro game and… formulaically vanilla in his grab bag of improvisational skills…. The last several quarters reminded me of an even slower Carr. It minimizes the value of a receiver like Vele… or any of the receivers other than Cooks…. Who has worked with him the most.

Vele is not the problem. He should not be singled-out so. The problems are an amalgam of years of kicking the cap can down the road, older core players and… a league of teams that has been able to stay somewhat faster and more current.

There is no magic scapegoat for this year or the next. It’s gonna be a discouraging ride… so? Come to grips with that. Makes the clown car show much easier to watch. I have seen enough… in the skeletons of an emerging offensive scheme and defensive rethinking that actually show some dynamic promise… just need to grow the needed pieces… a solid inexpensive receiver who actually can catch consistently is as fundamental a piece as any…

In a world that is chronically impatient… patience here is needed. The mess is bigger than one player, one game, one coach or one direction.

  17. Even if Vele was contributing decently, this trade still sucks lol

The fact that he’s nonexistent on the team makes it crazy bad

  18. Not a freaking clue!
Should’ve held onto MVS and left B Cooks out of the fold all together.

  19. If you’re waiting for a better reason than “pure incompetence”, I’d advise pulling up a chair.

  20. We needed a Redzone threat, so we traded for one and we don’t really get to the redzone…and when we do, we don’t pass to him. 4D Chess baby

  21. I remember this subreddit acting like this was a master-level chess move. Sean took Mickey behind the woodshed on this one. Holy hell.

  22. As far as trading for Vele the reason was to give us a big body reciver option for the redzone. He’s been productive when on the field, but the main problem is this offense has been so bad we hardly have been able to even make it to the redzone to really use him to his strengths.

  23. This thread is a bummer to read as a Broncos fan. I was curious how Vele was doing, we all loved him in Denver last year, but it seems like he’s not doing much for you all. I thought he could serve as a good big-bodied/sure-handed safety blanket WR to help develop your QBs, he was good at that last season in Denver.
