Looking at u Tom Ricketts (as usual)

  1. No, because the underlying non-confirmed rumor is other than Dansby’s contract there are no contracts that are longer than 2026, because of the impending lockout and Ricketts refuses to spend money when there is going to be a labor stoppage in 2027.

  2. Of course not. Then there would be less money to donate to the RNC and we can’t have kids getting food at school! Some things are more important than baseball

  3. 🤣🤣🤣 … are you serious??? They only care about us coming to Wrigley and taking our money. Not actingt like a major market team and putting that money towards the team is the least of their concerns. They want to win cheap like the Brewers. Ricketts are a joke.

  4. Depends, did the Cubs change owners?

If not I wouldn’t expect more than the bare minimum, Ricketts is probably looking to cut payroll rather than spend.

  5. How do you expect them to spend money when they’re just trying to break even? Come on man, read the room.

  6. I think most teams are waiting until after the 2026 season for big deals at this point.

  7. We’re never going to spend money. Stop fluffing yourself into thinking we will. This is a business investment to the Ricketts. We got our WS, now they’ll collect until they’re dead.

  8. That does not look like a reputable source for Cubs financial data. The article where that blurb is mentioned doesn’t have an author or sourced information. So we can’t use this. Theyll spend some money this offseason. Dont know how much but the 40 man is about to lose a lot

  9. No we need to build something else that’s not needed down the street (idk if there is but it’s the Cubs so 💁🏽)

  10. Don’t care if this is accurate or not. I can’t take anyone seriously who’s source is an AI summary.

  11. What motivation do they have to spend more? Ricketts already got their ring in ’16, they sell out nearly every game, charge $16 for a beer, and own all the real estate surrounding the stadium.

  12. Best I can do is a platoon OF and a middle of the rotation starter with some injury history.

  13. Their gonna spend some money. The books may be pretty clean post 2026 lockout but there’s going to be a lot of talent to replace. Hoerner, Happ, Boyd, Taillon, Suzuki, along with the revolving bullpen.

I don’t see Hoyer doing that in one offseason especially with a lockout likely to impact it. No I expect quite a few holes to be taken care of. Hopefully a Hoerner extension for sure.

  14. Well yeah. Were one of the highest spending teams in baseball. Comes with having owners willing to put up money.

  15. Should be taken with a grain of salt as this is google’s AI writing it and not an actual news source

  16. It’s called rebuilding. I’m here for it, why do you think the Dodgers have been 2-2 on World Series the past two years, they saved and then splurged. They’ll be good for years too, hopefully we’re saving to do the same. The Dodgers, hate them so much, but they’ve also been the smartest team in this sense for the last 5-6 years

  17. Expecting Cricketts to spend money on this team is fool’s gold. He simply not going to do it. He’s gonna stay below the luxury tax threshold.
