Oilers Stars Shine in OT Win vs. Blackhawks | Oilersnation Everyday with Tyler & Liam
Welcome to Oilers Nation Everyday with your hosts Tyler and Liam. Saturday. Obviously, everyone was watching the I Okay, I need to tell everyone. I’ll walk you through my Saturday night when you’re ready. How you doing, by the way? The show is a presentation of bet365. Download the app today. Use the promo code nation. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary. Bet 365. I’m doing terribly. Um, and that’s fair. I obviously went today to go back and rewatch the Oilers game. Oh. And the moment where the crowd goes crazy and Jack goes, the Oilers just or the Blue Jays just won the World Series. Like watching that today was just like, oh, that was an actually an alternate universe. I just I’m sorry. I was thinking about you. Even my fiance said, she said, how do you think Tyler is doing? was like probably not great. It was awful. It was awful to watch. I couldn’t believe it. Yeah, it was uh it was terrible. I’m sad yesterday. I stretch, but yeah, because you know, Canada got together, we all could agree that Chase, let’s go. And man, I was distraught because you’re watching that game and that was the Jay’s game. That was their game. Someone said, I can’t remember watching their game. Who was the gentleman who was with Hazel May the whole time? Caleb Joseph. Caleb Joseph. Yeah. Did you see his comment? He was like, “The best team did not win this World Series.” Yeah. Oh man. And it’s so true. that Yamamoto fellow won the whole World Series was literally because of him. He was the only good player on the Dodgers lit honestly like the whole time it was like this that guy the thing is and and they were hitting him in his in his relief appearance the whole thing like they they were doing all the things they needed to do but they just weren’t like so close so close. Did you guys see uh Kik Hernandez’s uh post on Instagram? No. After Caleb Joseph uh said that, he posted a photo of him on the plane saying, “So happy the better team didn’t win.” Whatever. Kiki, I only know him from his episode of The Rookie. Was he in an episode? Kiki Hernandez was in the rookie. But also too, when did he change his name back to his full name? Did he just get to like a certain age? Like I’m 30, what is he like 34, 35 now? Kiki Enrique. Yeah, it was always Kiki. Kiki. No. Brett, you’re a Dodgers fan. Uh yeah, we he a few years ago, like about eight years ago, he went by Enrique Hernandez and then I think years ago, yeah, he’s been around for a while. He used to do this thing called the rally banana where he dress up as a banana. It was great. Wow. We’ve all been there. Um so yeah, one you eat, but I guess they all rally around the rally. I uh so I was at a my uh fiance’s dad’s on Saturday and he had a couple of friends over and there was popcorn on the table and when the Dodgers scored in the ninth I was okay rally popcorn and I tried to get it going and nobody bought along. Oh that’s the thing you need buying. Yeah didn’t have buy in. Didn’t have buying. Why didn’t they take second to eliminate the double play? Like cuz there was one out. Why wouldn’t they do that? If if if they go to throw him out, that guy’s running home. Cuz if Kirk does anything but hit a ground ball, that run’s coming in. Sure. And you run the risk of if he gets thrown out at second, now there’s two outs. But the guy runs home. If the minute they throw to second, that guy on third runs home. Yeah, I see what you’re saying. But it also is a lot harder. That’s a free base. That is a free base. There’s too much risk for the Dodgers to take. And what if he overthrows it? Yeah, like there’s too much risk. That was a free base and you eliminate the double play. Yeah, but you just when there’s a man in scoring position, you don’t want to run into an out on the bases. So like I don’t know. It’s But if they I know, but if they if they threw it, that guy’s gone. He’s already leading off. Granted, not leading off enough. Am I right? That’s up for debate, but still I’m just tackling all the emotions. But I I’m also a very casual baseball fan. Yeah, I couldn’t be more casual. I only learned how to play his names on Saturday. It was amazing. So my there seems to be on Twitter a lot of people who I know don’t watch baseball very much but became quick experts on that. Uh the the I what’s his name? IFK IF IKF. Yeah. Whatever. Like should he have slid the other way? I don’t know. Probably he should have slid at all. He shouldn’t have slid. No, because it’s not a tag. So you slow yourself down a little bit when you go to slide, right? Like if he just runs right through maybe safe. Again, you can what if it till you’re blue in the face? Like it it’s Oh, what if the broken bow? What if? But like they had plenty of chances to score more runs. Yeah, that’s the thing. They should have scored Ernie in the eighth. They didn’t. You had a leadoff double. You didn’t get them home. Like I don’t know. It just uh Yeah, it just sucks. Yeah, it sucks. It’s it Yeah, the the Jays were the better team. Like man, the team’s like Vlatt’s vibes after you know catching you know that double play ball and just the whole everything everyone Ernie man like you cannot talk enough about Ernie. How good was he? Oh it was unbelievable. I have him I saw something he’s under team control till 2029. Yeah that’s pretty glue guy. What a glue guy. Yeah. So, I was going to the Oiler game, my first game of the season, but uh you know, obviously was I wanted to be at a place near the rink where I could go watch the baseball game and then when it was getting close to puck drop, make the call on what am I doing? Am I is this a runaway and I’m just gonna go to my seats? Is it close and I’ll go and watch it in Studio 99 uh until the game’s over. But that game was because of all the pitching changes and everything. Like it was running long and also was one of the best baseball games in terms of entertainment value. So good going. So you’re glued. So I didn’t leave the bar until the game was over. Wow. So then from the bar I ran to Rogers. Got in for the third. Got in. So my tickets are in the second uh level. Escalator shut. So I’m like I’m just running into lower ball. going to grab some seats. So, we went and did that. Uh, watched the last three minutes of the third. Wow. And then overtime, Boo scored right in front of us. I was probably in the rink for 13 minutes. I didn’t even know you could get in at that point. Yeah, I didn’t know either, but there there was a there was quite a few of us on the same program. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, that’s crazy. So, Oh, interesting. Well, if you had known, you could have just watched the Blue Jays and the Oilers game in the arena. Well, we’ll talk about that. And then I shout out Colin Baker. I saw him at the at the bars at the same bar as watching the game and he’s like, “Yeah, I gave away my tickets. I knew like this game was going to be long and whatever.” Um, and then I I see him uh when do I see him? I don’t know. Right in the eighth inning, end of eighth. He’s like, “Yeah, we just bought uh we just bought some tickets for 20 bucks.” Oh, sweet. To get in. So, because now he’s going to the game thinking the game’s going to be wrapped up after nine innings. And uh I don’t know if he and his crew ran or if he just burned his 20 bucks. I had more at stake on the line than him, but what a weird night. It was weird. Was a weird night. I’ve never experienced that before where like I literally didn’t care about the OS game at all. Like we had it on like a phone, but I I wasn’t watching. No. No. I was glued to every single pitch. I think that’s the first time I’ve not the first time, but the first time in a long time I have sat backtoback nights and watched two baseball games in full even Friday. Yeah. You don’t hand out candy for Halloween? Well, my fiance was doing that for me. She was very generous to do that. How many trick-or-treaters did you guys get? I had like 60. Eight. Wow. It was so windy on on Friday. I had eight. Yeah. Your neighborhood’s a bit different. It’s older. Mine’s relatively Yeah, we were like 50 60. I want to shout out the uh the people out there that uh were having the TVs on the driveway with a fire even though it was windy uh and showing the game. It was it was nice. There’s a few on my street that did that, too. We didn’t have one trick-or-treater the entire night. Wow. I literally watched a pack of trick-or-treaters walk past our house. I was like, “Come here. Come here.” You can’t wave kids to come to your house. Yeah, I know. Come here. Free candy. Come here. Are your lights off? No, no, we had lights on. We had decorations out front. We had everything going. I don’t know. Was that Yeah, it was weird. I had the 160 the year before, so I lost a hundred. Where are the youth going? Yeah. Yeah, it was uh Well, and Crawford was buzzing. This was her first big hall. I loved your costumes. Oh, yeah. We What did you guys go as? We were ghost. So awesome. And we went uh I took her like I got home and she was bouncing off the walls. She’s like, “Where are the kids? When can I go get candy?” I’m like, “It’s 4 o’clock. Oh, we got to wait. We got to wait. And she’s just she’s standing by the door the whole time and she was being so good about it. And then then she was getting a little grumpy and I’m like, “Okay, we got to go. It’s 5:30.” We didn’t get home till 8. Trick or treat for two and a half hours. Yeah. For for a three and a halfyear-old. She I think I walked 8,000 steps. Yeah. But uh yeah, she was she was buzzing. But shout out to the parents that uh had the Blue Jays game on in the driveways. I stopped and enjoyed. Yeah, that was uh that was shitty, man. Um, again, they had every like they had every opportunity to win and it’s one of those where like you know how hard it is to get there and like for me on a personal level as much as this will sound and people will be like you know playing the world’s tiniest violin but like you know when the Oilers go on these runs like we’re obviously very invested in the run but like you’re doing the pre you’re doing pregame with Aaron then you’re Greta you know I’m down in Florida I’m up in the press box and all this so like flex to have this run where Like I’m a fan every night and Amber’s super into it and I’m watching it in my basement with my buddies every night and like there they were coming over on Tuesday nights during the playoffs like let’s have some beers and watch the Jays. Like the run felt really really special for me on like a personal level cuz I feel like I got to really just like be a fan. I got to really just be a true fan where like I had my little superstitions that I would do. I had my emotional support baseball that I’d hold. Like I would drink a big can of beer and then I’ got biggest biggest beer you got cuz I’d say it’s like I’m at the game cuz I got a big beer. And for them to lose in that way and like listen I’m pretty used to the heartbreak. I think if you were to ask a lot of, you know, football fans, what’s the best football game of the last decade? Bills Chiefs 13 seconds, right? It’s probably right up there for a lot of like just normal fans. Normal like that game was crazy. That’s the worst game I’ve ever watched in my life. If you were to ask, you know, casual hockey fans, “What’s the best Stanley Cup final in the last 10 years?” I think a lot of them would say, “Oh man, the Oilers coming back from 3 0 that game seven, all that.” That’s the worst night of my life in Florida. So, like I’m used to having everything ripped out of me. There’s nothing left to rip. That is such a brutal line to say. You get to and like I Bo hits that grand slam and it’s like, “All right, it’s three nothing.” Or he hits the three-run shot. It’s like, “Oh [ __ ] it’s three nothing.” And like the bat flip and you’re like, “Oh my god.” Like that’s like his Kurt Gibson moment. like that home run is going to live on forever in baseball history. And then the game goes on, you add a few more, you’re in this great spot, you get to the ninth inning, it’s 891 coming up and I’m not even like that’s that was honestly the first moment where I allowed myself to get really excited and I started to have the thought of like they’re going to win the World Series two away and then for it to be Rojos and you’re not even thinking about Rojos. You get Rojos to two strikes and you’re like it’s just Otani. And then for that to happen the way it did and then for to be so dejected after Will Smith hits that home run, but then Vlatty gets the double and then they move him to third and then you’re just right back and you’re like, “Holy [ __ ] they might do this.” Like they’re going to have like a miracle in them. Like I’m finally going to have a moment. That’s why I just kept saying like when Vlatty was on third, I’m like, “Oh my god, like they’re going to give me like a crazy moment.” And then for it to end on a double play on a broken bat that also is just brutal, you know? And if it’s if it’s five if the ball doesn’t go if it goes 5 ft shorter and Muki’s got to take another step in. Then there’s no double play ball and it’s tied. If it’s, you know, hit a little bit harder, it’s probably up the middle. It’s just like if that’s a fly ball, you’re scoring them. IKF in the ninth, you have the moment where you watch the review the first time really close and his foot comes off the bag and you’re like, did it? I was like, “Holy [ __ ] we just won the World Series.” Yeah. And I think that’s the point in the broadcast where Jack said what he said was like, “The Blue Jays just won the World Series.” And it’s like, man, for a for there to just be so many gut punches in like a 30 minute span just sucks. What did you make of the wedge ball? Can I say something about that in game six? Um, the ball was wedged. That is how they train you to how they train you to play it. The rule The rule is black and white. So like the ball is stuck. What’s the guy supposed to do? It was the right call. I couldn’t believe the discourse around it. But like one more centimeter either way or whatever, right? Like that’s like Yeah, it was brutal, but it was like, what are you complaining about? The ball could didn’t move. So, I’ll wrap up the Jay stuff because I know people are here to hear us talk about the Oilers, and we’re obviously going to talk Oilers. I went back and watched the game. Like, we’ll give you a full breakdown of the Oilers. Louis going to join us at 1. We have all of our game day stuff. When the Oilers lost in game seven to Florida, there was like a sense of they’ll be back. Like it’s Conor McDavid, it’s Leon Dryido. Like this team is fully capable of getting back to where they are. You knew how hard it was to get there, but you can get back. And they did get back and they lose the next year. And maybe that one was like really gutting, but they lost in such a like frustrating way that it was like, okay, maybe I maybe I don’t believe they but still like for this Jay’s team to lose where like the Oilers made it back on merit, you could say. Yeah. Same damn team running it back, beating basically the same damn teams to get there. It’s really hard to envision this Jay’s team who really did it on the power of friendship. This was not a juggernaut roster coming into spring training. This is not a team that was top 10 in World Series odds. I don’t even think they were top 15 in World Series odds to start the year. Ernie Clement’s not batten 400 in the next postseason. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had one of, if not the best individual postseasons we’ve ever seen in the sport. Treya Savage set records every single time he went on the mound. Max Scherzer turned back the clock three times and gave you everything you needed every single time. Like Jeff Hoffman didn’t give up a run until the top of the ninth of game seven of the World Series. Everything went their way and it’s really really heartbreaking to know it took my whole life for them to get to this point. And everything had to go so well for them to get to that point. And it’s not like they got sweat. They were the better team. Every game they won, they blew out the Dodgers. Every game the Dodgers won, they needed five, six things to go their way, right? It’s so hard to look at this ball club and be like, “This same group of players can get you back.” So that’s my glass half empty feel to it is I’m very demoralized and I sit there and I go, I might be 50 years old by the time I get to see the Blue Jays in another World Series. That’s very upsetting to me. It’s part of the reason I was very upset on Saturday night. Had to go sit in my basement alone for a little while. The other side of it is Rogers made a shitload of money in the last month or two months. Isn’t there another Japanese guy coming? There is. But if any ownership group in Major League Baseball is going to be highly, highly incentivized to spend that money to try to get back there, it’s the ownership group that owns their own TV rights, gets to nationally televise their games. Like they are in a way the second or third largest market in all of baseball. You could honestly say like population-wise, TV wise, like it’s like LA, New York, and then Canada as a whole because that’s what the Blue Jays have. So, I don’t think this same Blue Jays team can get back next year, but I think this Blue the Blue Jays could get back again because I think they will become a team that spends like crazy. So, what are we looking at in the off season? Like, who’s who’s the big obviously Bo that’s one guy, but like who’s the other guys? I think Bo’s gone. The way he was talking after the game was like pretty past tense, so that’s sad. So, if Bo goes, you need to get a bat somewhere. So, is there a good bat? So, I don’t Yeah, there’s good bats. Um, Alex Bregman opted out of his contract with the Red Sox. Bregman, he just signed. Yeah, he signed a They kind of call them like onein- ones or whatever where like the player will sign with a player option for year two. Well, like LeBron. Yeah, pretty much. So then like if the player does bad, they have the insurance of like you can just stick around. If you play well, you can leave and go cash in again. Um, but they’ll sign a bigname pitcher. I think that’s my one prediction. They’ll get like a really Is there some good ones? Who is the Japanese fell? I heard he’s a hitter, not a pitcher, right? Uh yeah, there is a pitcher coming over I think too though. He’s a a third baseman in the Japanese guy that you think of. He big a fell, isn’t he? Oh yeah, he can crank balls which would fit well with what the Jays need, right? You get someone at third, you kind of do Ernie at second, Jimenez at short, you can these things together. Yeah, we’ll see. I think it should be a fun offseason, but exciting. It’s hard to be excited for anything when you just watch your team lose games. Totally. Yeah. So, when does free agency begin? RJ, I think I think right away here. I think it’s pretty quick. It’s a like a five day like negotiation that you have with your players. The Oilers ended and then like July 1st is like a week. Yeah, it’s normally about 5 days after the World Series. Cool. Dodgers Scooball. Could he be a Jay? Probably not. Can they afford him? Of course. There’s no They can afford whoever they want. He’s He’s going to be a Dodger. Awesome. Well, if you can’t beat him, join him. Am I right? I hate it. That is a crazy line. Anyways, um we can talk hockey now, guys. All right. Well, I didn’t watch the game, so that’s going to be tough to talk about. I got uh I can tell you last three minutes it was meh. Overtime was not bad. Yeah. Went a couple face off. Won a couple face offs. B got B got a goal. We need to get him going. Big B game. Big B game. There was there was more quotes that I was intrigued by. Tvidan did not get a point. I bet on that. He’s an Oilers killer. I don’t remember the last time I did. He said that when he was on Carolina’s guy always gets it. Nice. I uh don’t remember the last time I like didn’t never mind didn’t watch an Oilers game live. I don’t remember the last time I didn’t like bet on an Oilers game either. Like I was just too dialed in on the J. I actually didn’t bet on the Jays went bet on the Oilers game instead. I had my Oilers Jay’s parlay. That’s too bad. Yeah, it could have been an alltime night. Um anyways, well, let’s do Let me just read it in here. Our game recap is brought to you by our friends at Greta. Oh man, can you imagine Greta if it would have been a championship night on Saturday? would have just been rocking. Arcade bar, street food. It’s our playoff spot. It is our weekend spot. Make it yours. Downtown Edmonton. Shout out to our friends at Greta. Um first period, no goals. Um I did go back and obviously watch um this game. Stuart Skinner made some awesome stops early on. That was a really really good game by Skinner and it’s reflected in the save percentage and we’ll talk about him in the in in the goalie meter as well. Um but he was really really good early. He got a post with about 10 minutes left and then right at the end of the period Leon Dryidle needed an extra.1 seconds probably to score. But I did think it was funny that the second period begins and Dry settle just scores like 45 seconds into the period like just instantly right on Q he goes, “Yeah, you know what? I deserve one.” And he hammers one home on the power play. So the power play was good last night. Two for three. This was really a win that was fueled by the Oilers star players as you get a look courtesy of Sportsnet at Leon Dryidle’s goal in the dying seconds of that power play. Just fires one by Spencer Knight. I think I don’t think Spencer Knight thought that Leon Dry said was going to shoot this puck cuz he like really started to slide and then you could tell he like takes a hit there. He overcommitted. I also feel like this was a really nice step for Conor McDavid to be back to good old Conor McDavid where he’s creating chances out of thin air. He’s making fast plays like that one off the rush. Um, so again, the star players were dynamic in this hockey game. You get two goals on the power play, then obviously you go and win it uh win it in overtime. But one guy who I think really really stood out and he’s been doing like the building blocks thing here. Vicil Pud Coulson. I think he’s been he has the if there’s any guy you’re going to give time to, it’s Pud Coulson with everything he went through. And we’ve talked about that on the show a lot. Like even when he was struggling to start the year, it’s like I’m okay if Vicil Poulson’s going to start slow with everything he went to and the travel he had to mix in and missing a chunk of training camp um with the passing of his dad. This last week has been like all right there’s that’s the guy who you can staple next to Leon for the rest of the year and feel pretty good because he was generating. He got a penalty shot which he hit the post on. Um he was good. like Leon had a look in the first period that was all just off of the hard work of Pud Coulson in the perimeter and Pud Coulson made like a slick little feed to him in front. Um but he was great. So Pud Coulson was one of those underlying players who I thought was really really good. One thing I’ve noticed with him a bit more too, he obviously always looks to dry to when he has the puck, but he seems like he’s holding on to it a bit more too and trying to make plays for himself a little bit. Yeah. which shows like a level of of confidence and that second line of of Dado, Rosik and and Pod Coulson looks to be legit like three of them are playing really well right now. They if they can kind of keep that going and then Heyman comes back and I think you can keep Nan Hopkins up there with McDavid. Like that’s a really solid top six. Like for the whole time of last season it’s like okay the five guys are good. you knew Pods wasn’t producing at maybe a level of a second line player, but you knew you were getting it from him every single night. And it was whoever was playing on the other wing that you’re like, “Ah, what’s going to do? What’s Skinner going to do?” It’s like, if Rosovvic can stay consistent and the one thing I like about him too, he it’s different to Pod Cors because Pod Coulson doesn’t have the skill that Rosik has and he always looks to dry up, but Rosik’s like willing to do it alone. Like he’ll just skate through a few guys and look off dry. He’s starting to also look better. Way better. Way better. I think he has points in three straight. Yeah. So that’s that. And that’s nice. They also played him 22 minutes and 52 seconds on Saturday, which is more than Leon Dryle. Whoa. Wow. Yeah. He had 21 shifts. Uh Dry Saddle had 22. That’s uh that is pretty crazy. Um and they bumped him up to the power play. Well, that’s what I wanted to talk about next. So you just saw the Leon goal. You can show us the Rosovvic goal here, Brett. Um, we’re not, we don’t need to be mean to David Tamasic. Of course not. He’s a fourthline player put in position. I still I still think at the end of the day he was a gamble worth taking. Agreed. You need to if you only hit on one out of every 10 of those European free agents. Like you need to take 10 shots to find the gem, right? Yeah. You swap him out for a guy who scored 20 goals in the NHL and bing, he finds the back of the net. There might be something to that. 100%. And it’s just a level of like you said being he’s also like he’s been in a league much longer. He’s played with these skilled guys like when he was on Carolina AO fetchnikov whoever else it may be and like Thomas X coming over from Europe and you wanted him to produce on what has been one of the best power players of the past decade with some of the greatest players the game has ever seen. Like it’s not that easy to just go and park yourself in front of the net and hope you can score a goal. And he’s made a skill. It is a skill. Totally. And he’s made some good plays on the power play too. just I still think he’s a good player in the in the bottom six. I just wonder at what point do they look at it and be like, “Okay, like we pay Philp and Lazar 775,000 and we pay Thomas like a million.2. What’s more worth it to us in the cap situation?” Yeah, cuz he can also go down. Yeah, I think you will see him go down. I like D Howard again against Chicago. Matt Seavoy. I think the their metrics were bad, but this is one of those games where I don’t want to let that like I’m not going to look at the natural statue and be like, “Oh, actually I didn’t like them.” When I was watching that game, I kept being like, “There’s a nice play. There’s a nice play. Freddy was noticeable. Seavoy had a really really good look in the first period and I felt like the that duo maybe had something there. If Howard’s being noticeable and Seavo is being noticeable and Knobblock has spoke spoken pretty openly about liking how Howard’s progressing, which is interesting considering his minutes. Yes. Like a lot of the nights you look at it and he’s like he’s last in minutes for the forwards at least 952 last game. Yeah. And he actually wasn’t last this time. It was Phil and Lazar who ended up being lower than him. But again that’s fine if these guys are coming on and giving you eight nine 10 good minutes and that’s great. And I think Thomas was also doing that for them too. 8 to 10 is a fair amount. If if if he’s in like the four five then it’s like what are you doing? Worried. Yeah. But you know it’s that that that’s meaningful minutes still totally at the NHL level. And also too, it was a close game. The Oilers needed they needed a winner game. I mean, yeah, for sure. Maybe that’s up for debate, too. But it’s like if this game was a little bit f the Oilers are a bit further in front, then maybe those guys eventually push up to 12 minutes. Yeah. And you know, again, they’ve they still haven’t won 50% of their hockey games yet this year. So, you’re right, like you do need to get some wins at some point here. Um, so I’m I’m okay with it again when when there’s a run where Yeah. when you’re winning games 4-1. and we know that’ll come. Give Vik Howard 13 minutes. Give Matt Seavoy 18 minutes and see how he handles it. But you’ll get there. It’s early in the year. Again, Leon talked about this last week. I think if if the players in the room are sitting there going, we know when we need to be playing our best hockey. Then I also think the coaching staff knows like we are building foundational layers here for this team and building up. We we want to be our best in February, March, and April and then head into the playoffs redhot as every team wants to. We’re starting to see it though, right? Like guys that, you know, we were a little sus on to start are now getting comfortable and taking strides and like all that’s important and now our stars are starting to be stars again. Mhm. So, you know, we’re not even in the need of this, but you know, we’re a 10ame heater away from curing all our problems. And I I won’t be shocked if we’re on the start of one right now. Well, so actually I like that you brought up that line cuz like in past years, yes, we’d be sitting here in November and be like, “Fuck, we need an eight or 10 game heater to solve our problems.” Right now, we are if if we get a 10ame heater, we’re the best team in the NHL. It’s not like we just would have solved our problems. All of a sudden, we’d be sitting there going like, “Oh my god, how good are the Edmonton Oilers?” So, that is the nice thing about being 6’4 and three out of the gates and milking a couple of loser points here and there and scraping out some wins. Like, they have not played their best hockey. They’re still in a decent spot. So again, I’m I’m totally fine with the way things have been going. Someone in the YouTube chat um said the Oilers wasted an opportunity in October because of how many non-playoff teams they played. And I don’t think you can apply that log. I think you can apply that logic when you get to February and March and be like, look at how soft our schedule is. In October, those bad teams, in air quotes, bad teams are full of piss and vinegar. Yeah. They have the that’s their best chance to beat us. They’re the clip of the New York Islanders the other yesterday. Matt Schaefer scores two goals, they win. They had a shot of their bench reaction. Holy [ __ ] You might have thought they just scored the Stanley Cup winning goal. They were like all jumping up and down hugging each other. But like these teams who are like scrappy and know how much every point matters. Like there was a clip of Elvis Mickens crying on the bench the other day because he didn’t play well. And it’s like, okay, the Columbus Blue Jackets and the New York Islanders know two points right now is worth just as much to them as two points in April. And they know it might come down to two points if they’re going to make the playoffs or not. The Oilers do not care. Oilers currently tied for first in the Pacific Division. Have played two more games though. Yeah, I know. The games in hand. No, but the games in hand are actually a thing. And I normally like being I like being on the other end of the games on hand. Yeah. Where you got a couple Yeah. Where we’re three behind, not three ahead. It It’s just funny to look at that though because they have played bad. Don’t get me wrong. There’s been many games like, “Holy smokes, who is this team?” But it’s like even when they played so poorly, they’re still com comfortably is the wrong word, but like they’re in third in the Pacific. And also too to say like they’ve played a lot of non-playoff teams. You may have seen that graphic today. Every single team in Eastern Conference is above 500 which and I know that’s going to obviously balance out and everything but like maybe that Eastern road trip was a lot more difficult than we thought it was like looking at it now and like I think they should have won a couple of those games, don’t get me wrong, but like it looks to have been I think a lot of teams may have had the same results. All 15 or all 16 Eastern Conference teams above 500. Only 10 of the 16 above 500 in the West. I just want to switch gears, keeping on the topic of hockey, and just give some flowers to the Buffalo Sabres. Oh. Oh, yeah. Like they’ve got it back on the rails. Five. Almost the same record as the Oilers. Well, but they started They’re bad. Like they they if you would have told Sabres fans after three weeks that would be their record, they would punch you in the face and call you a liar. Buffalo, Toronto, Florida, and yeah, sorry. Buffalo, Toronto, Florida, Washington, and the Islanders all tied to 13 points. And Philly all have 13 points in 12 games. They all have identical points percentages, which is crazy. Um, so there you go. Oilers beat the Oh, we can do the BJ OT winner. Actually, Brett, we forgot that one. Um, you haven’t seen it. I did see this is the one I did see. Uh, there you go. I saw it live. David Works is way in wide. Yeah, you saw it in wide or you saw it live. Uh McDavid works his way in wide and again just classic Oilers in overtime. If you give these guys enough chances, they’ll score. B gets to tap in his own rebound. Um good for Evan Bushard. I like Conor McDavid’s comments after the game kind of being like everyone in this room knows how good he is and we don’t really care what the outside noise is. So again, good for the leader for kind of saying that we are we are all good. Um can we talk about who missed that? at home. Classic. He needs to be right-handed though. Yeah. Um, so the Oilers win and they send the Rogers Place crowd home. I won’t say happy because I do think there were a lot of people with down faces still. Well, they were able to watch the game at the game. So, do we have the Conor McDavid clip? Conor McDavid spoke after the game. Did you hear this? I’ve seen it some things on social. Yeah. Uh, here’s what McDavid said after the game about uh the Oilers playing the Blue Jays game. That was really, really strange. Um, obviously we’re all all on the Jay’s bandwagon and everybody’s wanting them to win and it was so disappointing obviously, but um, strange strange to have it on during the game. Um, listen to the crowd. Um, was distracting for sure. I’m glad they uh, they shut it off there for the third when when you know they’re showing they’re showing it not only showing it, but they’re showing it with sound during the TV timeouts as well because that’s that’s it was bizar. Yeah, it was bizarre. Um, it was bizarre. I found myself watching the Jay’s game, sitting on the bench, you know, um listening to the crowd while I’m on the ice, you know what just happened. Um it was uh it was very strange. Um but you know what, historic moment. Um couldn’t be more gutted for those guys. Um you know, obviously we know what that feels like. It’s uh and to you know, for it to be the way it happened, you know, just completely gutted for those guys. Um, it’s been a fun run and it’s been a lot of fun. They’ve given Canada a lot to cheer about and they should be very, very proud of themselves. That was really, really strange. Um, there we go. Um, I think it’s fair to say someone might have called upstairs when he said, “I’m glad they turned it off.” You brought up a good point before the show. Yeah, I’m pretty sure Knoblock called up and was like, “Hey, like we need to get this off. I’ll someone.” You know what I mean? Like rightfully so. For sure. Like Connor’s like like if people are [ __ ] on Connor, you can’t like he just said like I caught myself watching the Jays games and then hearing crowd reactions and I’m on the ice. Like that’s distracting to him. Yeah. I like I love I like that the Oilers wanted to do that. Yeah. There were there was like they Exactly. I don’t fault maybe just misexecuted. Yeah. I don’t know how they but like Yeah, I agree. I think maybe a misexecution somewhat. They maybe should have had the game. Yeah. Once again, like this may never happen again. Sorry, Tyler. Uh, so you got to do it. Exactly. Yeah. I don’t really know how they could have or the Oilers won’t play on that night or they’ll be on the road in the States. Yeah. I It would have been crazy though and sorry Tyler if they had won and then what the reaction would have been in Roger’s place. Lost like you know people would have stood up and cheered. Yeah, they did. Yeah, Jack literally said the Blue Jays have won the World Series. Oh, man. Yeah, it’s too bad. How iconic of a call would that have been though for Jack Michaels during the middle of the game and the Blue Jays won the World Series? Pod calls him down the wings. Now, does like like do you think Jack regrets it? Um, I don’t think so. Maybe. Well, I say like he’s he’s a professional. He is so good at his craft. He cares about everything. The fact that he said something that was wrong wrong but like in the moment looked right. Yeah. I I wonder how a guy like Jack like and and it’s it’s not just a single out him like any broadcaster in that position if they’ve done that how they’d be like, “Oh [ __ ] we should ask Louie. We can ask Lou. Hey, like Jack said this. Obviously a mistake, but like but they I guess they wouldn’t even sit next to each other. I don’t know. Like they would banter after or whatever. Like it’ just be kind of curious because you know Jack called what he saw. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Jack called what most of Canada saw. Yeah. There you go. Boilers win and the Blue Jays lose and now we just try to get on with our lives and not think about it all the time because it’s really sad. It’s tough. Like it’s I I it’s like I said, it’s put me in a bit of a funk. I I just get hit with waves of sadness. Yeah, that night. Like they deserve to win. That’s the whole thing. They deserve to win. My buddies left. So it’s just me and Amber. They left. Oh yeah. Yeah. They wanted hang. You kicked him out or they left? Were they in a similar boat? Well, when your buddy that’s hosting you has been in the basement by himself for 10 minutes, I think you kind of get the hint that night. Knight’s not going anywhere. I would have gone down. War of Attrition. No one came down. War of. No, no one came down to check on me. No, I wouldn’t have checked on you. I would have just outweighed you upstairs, ate all your food. So, I went upstairs, saw Buchard score. I had legitimately zero reaction to it. Yeah, fair enough. I cracked two beers at the same time, drank them about as fast as I’ve ever dranken two beers and said, “That should be enough.” And then I went to sleep and woke up every two hours throughout the night just being like, “Oh [ __ ] they actually lost. That sucks.” Yeah, that’s pretty. So, yep. Having a great time today. Vib’s pretty high over here. Okay, Brett. I thought that mic was broken. It’s not in the house, though. My girlfriend is very like she’s not a big sports fan and she said this one hurts more than the Oilers. You were saying she had to unfollow Vlatty on Instagram so she couldn’t see. Oh, unfollow Vlad. It is a mass exodus. I let her I was wearing my Dodgers jacket yesterday. I let her just hit the logo as long as she wanted. I knew she had to get it out. Well, Eli was in Toronto. So, Eli, you obviously don’t have a microphone, but can you just give me a bit of a vibe check with your fingers? Oh, thumbs up. And they slowly turn the thumbs down. Damn it. Yeah, I knew a few people at the game and I’m texting them and they’re like, “This is bananas.” I’m like, I feel like we’re watching a movie. I know. Cuz this this game had everything. The bench is cleared. Oh, yeah. That was crazy. What a [ __ ] that guy is. I can’t believe Jimenez thought they were thrown at him in game seven of the World Series. I also thought that too, but I can understand why. But like for that one guy to be like acting like he wasn’t the problem. It’s like, dude, you threw three at his head. Like you know. Yeah. I was uh I think it was good for the umpires to obviously won both teams. I mean the bullpens came out but then the bleachers got hit twice again. Didn’t Kirk get one? It was another one got hit. Kirk did get hit. Springer got he got brushed back on. I just felt like there was so many Dodgers pitchers who lost control and it seemed like every single game uh what’s the commentator for? We just got Dan. Dan Schman oh he has no control of his pitches. Like does does anybody I feel like all of them are just getting absolutely bounced off every Blue Jays player. Like did the Blue Jays hit them once kick them all out. Should have got that Yamamoto out. Um All right. Should we turn our attention because we only have 15 minutes left with the We got to shout out the Blue Jays today, guys. Oh my god. So I joined them ahead of game seven and I I’ve joined them ahead of both game sevens. ALCS and this. Their stream is just massive. 600,000 viewers, dude. So they’re reporting every week and they’re always they skewed our numbers as a company. They all they’re always the first who to get in there and put them in. And I kid you not this morning just their numbers alone was like pretty much what we did last week as a whole company. It was nuts. It was insane. Like again like when the J like the Oilers, you hit a ceiling of like there are only so many Oilers fans in the world, right? When the Jays turn on the Jets like this, and credit to those guys cuz their product is so good, too. They captivate and their chat is people of all ages from everywhere across Canada. Like, it’s it was the coolest thing to be a part of for the 30 minutes I was on the show. But like, and then they sit there and stream the whole game. I know. And even when they went to the bar to do it, like so many people watching them at the bar, their following is insane. So, shout out to those guys. Also, one of them’s in a commercial. Yeah, I was uh texting with with them uh after the game because I just I felt for them. I really did. Like I I I was thinking about you and I was thinking about them. Uh I didn’t check in on you. I checked in on them. Yeah, I know. Uh because I I know I would see you soon. Uh and they poured their hearts out into it, man. Like they were they were the pulse of the fan base. So it’s Yeah, it sucks. But crazy crazy. I can’t even I can’t even begin to tell you how much stuff was happening if the Jay’s won that we were going to do. There was some crazy [ __ ] that was that was going to be so good for the company. Uh like crazy things. Uh when I heard about the one thing and obviously I was like when I heard about the one thing my brain was like we had this going on. Yeah. And it was kind of in the it came together really fast. And I know this is inside baseball. Uh but it came together really fast and I just found out like like literally the day before it’s going to happen. Yeah. And I’m like, whoa, I need to know about this because there’s some things I need to clear tweak. Um but anyways, we did. I’m like, I’ll drop everything to make this happen. There’s a few things. There was a something to do if there was a outdoor event. Uh that would have been super cool that we would have done and there was something physical. Anyways, all good. Uh let’s turn our attention back to the hockey. We got 15 minutes left with Jay. So, a couple of things we need to do really quick here. Uh first, our game notes for today are brought to you by our friends at Dog Patch. If you’re looking for a spot to watch the oil tonight, come join me. I’m hosting pre and postgame shows live from Dog Patch tonight. Look it up. What’s the address? I always forget what the address is. I’m terrible with address. 1158 90th Street Northwest Edmonton, Alberta. Forget the postal code. That’s all good. It is down in the Riverdale area. So again, come on down, hang out with me tonight. We’ll be drinking Nation beers, having a good time, and uh watching a hockey game on the on the two TVs. So again, if you can’t tune in, or if you can’t make it down, tune in to Post tonight, but I will be a Greta or Dog Patch, Jeez, for tonight’s game. Both great places. Both great places, but tonight I will be at Dog Patch. Um Oilers against the Blues. Do you have the stat pack, Brett? The Blues are a weirdly poor hockey team. Their record is 37-2 on the year. Three wins and nine losses is like insane. Awful on home ice at 14-2 as well. Goals four per game, goals against per game. The Oilers hold the edge in both of those. You see the power play, you see the penalty kill. So I wanted to do screaming over tonight. Eh, screaming over. So I wanted to do a little bit of breakdown into like why is this Blues team so poor? Five on five shots four per 60. These two teams are basically dead even. 16th and 17th in the NHL. Shots against per 60. The Oilers fifth best in the league at preventing shots at five on five. The Blues 13th. So they’re still in the top half of the leagues. Like that didn’t make a ton of sense to me. Five on five scoring. The Oilers are 25th in the NHL. The Blues are ahead of them at 19th. Actually, they’re scoring more. Goals against Per 60. The Oilers are 17th. And here it is. The Blues are dead last in five goals against per 60. They can’t get a save. And listen, some of these numbers are goalending, some of it’s luck. I looked at shooting percentage. The Blues are 19th in five on five shooting percentage. Somehow sixth in five on five expected goals four percentage. So if they were getting saves, their goals four percentage would probably go up. But it’s not even really like they’re just failing to generate offense. Everything for them, Liam, goes to they cannot keep pucks out of their net. It’s actually insane watch I watching Jordan Bington goals against before and Brett if we can just start throwing this just maybe take it off halfway through because I tried to keep this video under a minute and it was difficult and I actually didn’t so we’ll have to take it off and bring it back on. But my goodness some of this some of the goals Jordan Bennington was allowing in like usually I try and find like a common theme. They’re beating them every which way. There’s no common theme. It’s just like point shot. No one sees the puck. All of a sudden, Bennington’s literally looking behind and being like, “How’s that puck going in?” There was a breakaway. And usually I would add breakaways on this. But the way Bennington tried to save the breakaway would be like me playing road hockey. Like literally lay on his side and just put his body in the air. And some of them too, like this first one you’ll see if you’re watching on the show, like Pog goes behind him, he tries to play. Oh, sorry. That one just goes right over his shoulder from the boards. There was a lot of those like just very obscure goals against Yeah. Ke was a couple of them like this one’s the one I was talking about. Cider right through just right through him. But no one touches that. It just goes right through him and over and over again. It’s just like no one’s really scoring anything special against this guy. It’s just he’s just making mistake after mistake after mistake. And if I’m the Oilers, you got to look at this like we just got to get some shots. Yeah. because you can literally just go on him any way possible. Oh man. No. And hey, this is a large sample size. I mean, I know, but it doesn’t matter. Bring it on. I’m previewing the game. This is the likely starting goalie. But you’re doubling down, but just by showing 900 goals. I could have shown 920, but I had to take the 20 off because it was unbelievable. I’m just saying like the world works in funny ways. Well, Calvin Picket is in that for the other. You’re being kind. You’re being kind with your words. So, but your reporting is what what should I say? You could have just dabbled. Dabbled. Do you know Jordan Bennington might have gone a bridge too far on that one. I I’ve I’ve cut down on saying I know you have. We got back. Tonight we got Bennington with an 860 save percentage and a 321 goals against average going up against Calvin Pigard whose numbers are somehow worse. 846 for our pal Cal and a 3.5 goals against average. Now, I know what you people in the chat are thinking. Surely Connor Ingram’s going to be here soon. Holy [ __ ] Don’t go look at his numbers cuz it’s ugly for Connor Ingram down in Bakersfield. After starting well and stopping 21 of 22 in his first start with the Condors, he has gone five goals on 29 shots, five goals on 34 shots, five goals on 20 shots yesterday down in Calgary. Not good for Connor Ingram. So I think the Oilers are going to be locked in with Calvin Pickard for the next little while. So it is on him to turn this thing around. But again, it’s a matchup of two goalies who are very much struggling tonight in Bennington and Pickard. Over seven. What’s the line? I I’ll luck right now. I also thought of a of a fun question as I sat and looked at these goals Bennington was giving up and his numbers the last few seasons. It’s minus 120. Oh, I’m taking I might juice it up. Yeah, I might go like seven and a half, eight and a half tonight. What’s eight and a half pay? Depends how the Oilers play. Yeah, you’re right. The overall be solely based on the Oilers, not St. Louis. Plus 350 on over eight and a half. Plus 220 on over seven and a half. That’s the play. There be lots of goals tonight, guys. The Oilers have not been scoring a lot of goals, too. Would you trade Stuart Skinner for Jordan Bennington? Oh, that’s a good question. Uh, I thought you’d be way quicker to say I know, but it’s like I always say like he he shows up in the big moment, but it’s it’s it’s tough given how he is. Maybe maybe he’s at the tipping point, right, of the ne in the negative way. I think it’s a really hard question. As much as people laugh, one of them’s 32, you’re Because you’re super easy. No, you wouldn’t. No, I just think the difference, like you said, like Bennington’s a bit older now. His contract isn’t very good. Yeah. Um, and you look through the goals against. It’s not like the team’s breaking down in front of him. He’s just laying in bad goals. Like I I wonder Yeah, the money’s a big thing. I wonder like if he continues to play so poorly. You wonder about his Olympic spot. You have to you and I know Doug Armstrong’s a GM and everything, but like at some point you need to put that aside and be like, “This guy’s an 860.” If he does not take him to the Olympics after what he did at the Four Nations, that is Marty St. Louise, Steve Aerman all over again where he would Doug Armstrong will have to trade him cuz Bennington feels like the guy who would take that very personally. So maybe taking me is just not your start. Yeah, I think so. I think that’s why they have to take Logan Thompson. Like I don’t know why they’re so stupid. Logan Thompson is the best Canadian goalie in the league. And the fact particularly close. It’s not even close at all. Yeah, it is crazy. Um Brett, just quickly if you if you have those graphics I sent you to for the Bennington one. Let me just have a quick peek. Just just No, this isn’t piling on. We’re going to find out how we can beat him. We’re going to beat him live according to his video display earlier everywhere. Well, believe it or not, the stats would back that up. Jordan Bennington low glove 67%. He has allowed seven goals from his low glove. Also, right ear, no shots yet from his right ear. Only pretty good on the left ear. So, wait, no, right ear says he’s 0 for two. Good on the left ear. I said he’s bad on the right. Oh, yeah. Right ear. He hasn’t made a save right here. His that right ear is honestly looks like if you get the puck almost anywhere and he’s like mid-range. Mhm. Might go in. Unless you put it right into his chest, he’s 100% in the chest. Like most goalies we’ve seen so far. Yeah. Scary. So, like how if the puck hit him Yeah. and then dropped down to his feet and then maybe he did one of those things where he didn’t know where it was and turned and went in. Would that count as a shot? You have to hit him and turn and go in. Yeah, that would have to be that would have seen it. I believe last season Steuart Skinner one goal that went from he wasn’t 100% of the like if he spins around to make the save and can’t control himself and continues or he comes from like below the goal line. It’s like you spin to go over and it hits you and the chest goes in. Yeah. cover your post. Hopefully we don’t find out. Oh, hopefully with him we find out, but not uh yeah, I don’t know. Tough ones to break down the chest. There you go. Those are our game notes for our friends at Dog Patch. Come join me tonight. The Lifetime who’s the best chess goalie. Got to find that out. It’s a deep dive. I’ll do some deep dive. Yeah. Uh let’s get to our game day betting challenge for our friends at Bet365. Download the app today. Use the promo code nation. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary at Bet 365. Through one month of our bet 365 game day betting challenge. Pathetic. Guess who’s in first? Boom. But by how much? Did you hit your bet on No, no one. We’re all minus two. We and you are minus 2.4. He’s minus 2.2. We all have the same record. So, we’re 2 apart. Yep. Someone’s in first. Oh my god. Why’ you pick that photo of me? Yeah, that’s from when I was your truck. That police officer. All right. Where’d you even find it? Does it come up when you Google me? Oh, yeah. It was so I’m I’m I’m going to scare you guys tonight. Oh, I didn’t even read your bet. I liked your play the other day and it didn’t uh quite work out. It wasn’t It wasn’t anyone’s night that night. No. Oh, cuz the Others needed one more gold tie and I would have got it cuz we had over three and a half and I just gave up. Mhm. So, here’s what we got coming up for you tonight for our bets. I will go first, gentlemen. I am going I like this bet a lot. Three shots for Connor, three shots for Leon, and then give me over two and a half goals for the Edmonton Oilers. They should have no problem getting the offense going tonight. Um, and if you’re looking at these Oilers shot props, Leon Dryettle has hit this in five in a row. Conor McDavid’s hit this in four in a row. Conor McDavid smoked this in back-to-back games. So, I might even go a little bit aggressive. Uh, when they played St. Louis in St. Louis last year, that was the game I hit my $10 into $1,200 shot parlay. Whoa. When I did Bouch 5, McDavid 5, Dry Cital 5, and if you were to bet that tonight, $10 pays out $1,0. They could easily get it, boys. Yeah. Good luck. Especially if they know they just have to throw pucks on net. So there’s my little bonus. Can you imagine if I did that on the betting challenge in one and I got 100 to one? Well, I’d retire. Brave enough to do it. No, I’m not cuz I like playing it safe more. So plus 220 is my play. Uh who do we got next? Brett Liam Money Line. I watched those Jordan Bennington highlights and thought, “Wow, I thought they would be more favor. I didn’t even want to consider it from my because I just assumed it was going to be high.” Only minus 130. Uh I you just want to win so bad. Anything is fine. Um we need I actually don’t I need the Oilers to turn things around on the road. Okay. Cuz I’m I’m on my theory that they are have been a bad road team but a very good home team and that’s why they’ve had a weird start to the season. But now we’re in November. I knew it was different in November. Minus 130 money line. Remember remember the 3rd of November. The 5th of November. I know. But also the third I guess in the scenarios. Do you know that one, Tyler? Of course. Gunpowder treason and plot. It’s when uh watch V for Vendetta at least. Yeah. It’s when Guy Forks tried to blow up the blow up Parliament. I’ll add it to my list. Now we have bonfire night in England and we make this like mannequin I guess you can kind of call him is of like whatever it may be. And we throw him on top of the fire and burn him. It’s quite the tradition. Jay, your bet. Uh, in celebration of the Eve Eve of Guy Fox Day, uh, 10 to one. 10 to one. Let’s go. Dylan Holloway revenge point. Hasn’t been that good this year. Doesn’t matter. Okay. Does not matter. I was going to I was going to also do Broberg, but Broberg is is he hurt? Uh, that’s a good question. He wasn’t available. I was going to do that. Uh, Conor David two plus points. Dry two plus points. I just think now they’re they’re here to party. Uh, and Walman playing in front of Cal. He’s gonna try to help stop some pucks for him. So, I pushed it to three block shots for our boy, the wall man. You love your I love the look of your bets every game day. And I always see the logic. I see the vision every time. You always got to have a narrative. Yeah. Right. If you don’t, then what’s the point? It’s true. Uh, Matias Ekhome, by the way, has hit three plus blocked shots in three of his last five games. You can get that at plus 270 tonight. Justin Faulk of the St. Louis Blues has hit two or more block shots in 40 or five. He’s minus 105 to get Justin Folk. Interesting player. Really interesting player. There’s a point where I really wanted him to be when he was on Carolina. I was like, they have no good players besides Justin Folk. Yeah. It’s because every year we actually got to watch him do the fantasy draft and the thing and he was the only player that would ever go for the Allar game. Yeah. I was like, “This guy must be good. He’s fine. I don’t think he’s very good anymore. He’s just Yeah, he’s probably a little bit overpaid right now, but um what are we looking at over St. Louis? Yeah, well, quickly I’ll give you their lineup, then we’ll let uh we’ll let Jay go. Uh forward group, Robert Thomas with Pavo Buchvich and Jimmy Snugarude makes up the Blues top line. Snugrud’s got four goals on the season. Uh Pa Sudter with Jordan Kyu and Braden Shen. Dabor D’vorski with Oscar Sunquist and Dylan Holloway. Nick Buchad with Matthew Joseph and Alexe Torpenko. Jake Neighbors the one notable missing out of that forward group for the St. those Blues. Uh the blue line is Broberg with Pareco, Fowler with Faulk, Tyler Tucker with Matthew Kessle. Those are their six defenseman for tonight. So there’s your lineup for the Blues. And as we touched on earlier, Jordan Bennington gets the start. So over the summer, my friends were golfing in uh I think it was Sycamoose. Sycamoose to Sean, I think they’re neighboring. Yeah. So they were golfing. There was three of them. There was seven of them. Three of them needed to go in a group and uh they got a random pot with them and this guy shows up full St. Louis Blues gear to the golf course. To the golf course. Insane thing to do. But continue. Talking to this guy and turns out it was Jake Neighbor’s dad. Proud of his boy. Proud of his son. Now I forgive him for doing that. Normal thing to do. Yeah. It was uh it was Jake’s dad. All right. Uh Jake, no Nathan Walker tonight. No. Aussie Aussie. Former Oiler. That would have been your revenge point. Yeah, there’s the revenge point we all want. Nathan Walker. Nathan Walker. All right. Um, thanks for popping on. Thanks for having me, guys. I know you got places to be. I hear you’re making an appearance on The Sauce later this week. I am. I heard what are they calling it? Fry Jay’s. Oh, I’m joining every Friday. Nice. I don’t know if you are or aren’t. I was just told that. I was like, “Hey, who do you guys coming up? Who are your guests?” And they were like, “Well, Fry Jays with Jay.” I mean, why not? I was on the sauce today watching at the Nation YouTube. How was it from your perspective? It was great. It was really, really cool. Um, the one thing we were talking about is they were like, “We’re not used to having time.” So, like, first off, I show up at the office. And I told them, I was like, “I work here, so like I’m here.” Because they were like, “Well, we didn’t want to leave you waiting cuz I was there early.” And I was like, “Yeah, no, like I work here, though, so like I have I’m here no matter what.” So, they brought me on like half an hour early. I saw that. And I went on the show and like I could kind of tell like after like 10 15 minutes they were like, “All right, well, like thanks for popping on.” And I was like, “What?” I was like, “I just got here. I’ve been on for like 15 minutes. like let’s wheel a little bit and after the show we were talking they’re like yeah we’re not used to having time two hours they’re used to FM radio like that amount of content would power like three weeks of radio show it was uh I never knew how much Andrew Knack looked like Jason Greger that is crazy have the new mayor on today if you want to go I couldn’t believe it I didn’t know I was so stunned I pulled up to the office he was just standing outside the building I was like I think that’s the mayor I should probably go let him in have a fob both had to wait for Reese We have a fob shortage. I don’t has my fob. Andrew’s like, “Are you sure you work here?” I’m like, “Yeah, no. I swear to God, man. I just can’t get into the building.” Yeah. I can break us in. Yeah. Um, is our guest here? All right. Still waiting for our boy Louie. Louis is coming up right away. Louis coming up right away. Um, yeah. Anything else, Jay? Anything else you want to talk about here? Yeah, just uh let’s continue to mourn what could have been. I’d rather not think about it. And then let’s let’s start putting Hey, well, you got to mourn for a little bit and then channel all that that that energy into just powering up the Oilers because I think it’s starting to come. Yeah, I can see them getting I think it’s starting to come. They should have beat the wheels off of Chicago. They didn’t, but they got the job done, but we’re seeing some signals. Good signs. Nice. Yes. Um, we were on the Blues lineup notes there, but a couple of interesting things. The Oilers do play the Dallas Stars tomorrow. Oh, yeah. Jake Andre and his wife had their first child. Oh, congratulations. So he’s not going to play tomorrow. Perfectly timed. Thank you, Jake. Rupe hint is hurt. Won’t play again. Is he still hurt from the darn? Is he fine and just refuses to play? Matthew Shane also hurt, won’t play. Jamie Ban hurt, won’t play. Damn. All the players that sucked against us in the playoffs last year, refused to play the Oilers. The Rupe Hins singing is such a storyline that just disappeared. Yes, him getting slashed. He got slashed. Once the series is over, it’s like who cares? But like I’m curious how like Dallas fans think of him now. I’d be pissed at that guy if I was if he that was someone on the Oilers and I knew all he had was a bruised foot or whatever it was and he wasn’t playing playoff games. Yeah. I’d be like, “Are you kidding me? Do you want to win? Throw a shot blocker on there and get out there.” Mhm. Or just don’t be a you know what. Yeah. Be a man. Don’t be a baby. That’s what I was going to say. You know who misses games because of broken feet? Little babies. Yes. Little babies can’t get their little feet in their skin. Yeah, their little baby bones in their feet are broken. I have some milk, Rupe. Yeah. Jeez, come on. When was the last time you had a glass of milk? I can’t even tell you the last time I had a glass of milk. No. Well, I have I drink almond milk. Drink it. Well, no. Like in your cereal. That’s what I have. Yeah. It just seems like something that would I feel like that would be weird to put in my a cup. Silk milk. Not silk. Silka went on a bad run a couple years ago. Look it up yourself in your own time. Yeah, I was going to say don’t buy Silk. I was going to say it tastes really good. Well, I won’t be saying that much longer if you know what I mean. Hopefully sometimes I probably only do it like once every maybe once a quarter. We’ll call it just a glass of milk and a couple cookies. Santa, oh, it’s been 3 months. Got to have my milk and cookies. The opportunity just doesn’t arise all that much. And I only have it at 2:00 in the morning on a small side table and I just get up and I leave a couple. So if you’re talking about almond milk for coffee. Yeah, I do that. I got to get you on the macadamia nut milk. Okay. How do they milk it? Well, same way you milk an almond. Okay. Mac What? Okay, I’ll look it up. I’ll have them. I I’ve gone to the Go to Cloverdale Coffee. Is that where they have it? That’s where they have it. Sounds I want it. I’m going to try to get in all the shops, but that’s where it’s at right now. Yeah. It’s uh it’s got some sweetness to it. Okay. Natural sweetness from the milking process. Natural sweets. You start melting a macadamia out and sugar gets emitted. Is that really what happens? Yep. That doesn’t make sense. Totally. You get it. You need to research and find out for yourself. Mike D says, “Cookies and milk is an elite hotel snack.” How are you getting milk in your hotel room? It’s just left in the fridge from the person before. But like you’re going that that involves Think of the layers to have that cookies. He’s got to go buy the cookies. So the same place sells both. So like you’re just buying like a little individual carton of milk, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe this isn’t as difficult. Maybe he’s bringing his own. Maybe a liter. Maybe he’s a big liter of milk guy. Yeah. Maybe he’s having cereal in the morning. He’s just having milk. He’s a road warrior. That’s experience. That’s fair. That’s fair. And you’re you’re not on the road this week. Is that next week? I am on the road this week and next week. Are you going to try this milk cookie combo in your alter? Uh, we’ll see. We’ll see. Anywhere. Depends on what else I eat that day. I gota if I had an active day, maybe I’ll do it. Going anywhere nice. I’m going to go to Calgary and Vancouver. Beautiful. And then next week I’m going to Toronto and Montreal. Oh, well, Canada tour. World can Canadian tour. Coast to coast to coast. Um, all right, Jay, we’ll let you go. All right. Thanks, guys. There you go. Tyler Mul in the chat said we’re really milking this topic. YouTube chat, by the way, brought to you by Odd Company Brewing in the Nation Beer Everyday Logger. A crisp, clean logger crafted not just for game day, but for everyday. Find one by visiting them at one of their two locations, downtown or the Richie spot. We’re still waiting for our boy Lou to brush. Should I text him? I always feel bad. Hey, text him. Let’s go to the There you go, Brett. Good job, Brett. Aaron’s on vacation this week, by the way. He’s uh he has a he’s ming a wedding in the Dominican Republic in the middle of hurricane season. You get great rates. Yeah. No [ __ ] You might die. Do you remember? So when Tyler and I, you’ve all heard the story a million times. Um Oh, Louis says he’s here. We’re flying back from Oh no. Oh no. Wonder if you had to change it when you re had to reset the V-Mix. Ah, shoot. Can we maybe try sending Louis a new link, Brett? Oh my god. I feel so bad that Louis been waiting and we’ve been talking about goddamn cookies and milk. We were just killing time. [ __ ] Ah. Okay, Louie, we will get you sorted. I’m so sorry. Um, while we wait for Louis de Brasque. So many questions from him, too. I know. There’s actually like a lot that I want to get to with with our guy Louis. So, Lou, we might have you just pop into uh pop into a new link here really really quick. Um, Oilers lineup tonight. McDavid centering R&H and Andrew Mani. What do you think of that? I think Manapani is just going to fall down the lineup when Heyman comes back, which makes that third line great if you want. Sorry. Continuation. I think it could. But I think it really could like balance out the depth a little bit. So I’m good at that. Uh Dry setter with Pud Coolen and Rosavik, Henrique with Seavoy and Frederick and then Philp with Howard and uh Howard and Lazar. Good. I’m glad those guys are finally getting backto-back games. Let them get their feet underneath them a little bit and get rolling here. I know. I do like and you know what? To Knoblock’s credit, he played with Henrik Seavoy Fred. Like he kept those guys together the whole game last game which I thought was really really good. Um, someone asked each other, uh, James O’Hara said, “Is there anyone in the American League that the Oilers could call up right now?” Not really. When you go on lockdown teams been a bit inconsistent, allowing a lot of goals. We talked about Connor Ingram a little bit earlier, just how he struggled. 405 goals against average for Connor Ingram. Um, Calvin Pig getting the start, but we tal we didn’t talk about it yet, and that’s fine. We don’t need a graphic, bro. I know you’re doing stuff, but like um Stuart Skinner, quality start meter, believe it or not. Thumbs up. Good start to uh November for uh Stu. Yeah, Stew again against he stopped a breakaway against uh against Chicago. That was good. He stopped a twoon-one. So yeah, you wouldn’t have been able to tell that he was distracted by the Blue Jays game being played cuz Steuart Skinner was uh was really really dialed in. That might have been worse for goalies cuz the crowd just randomly goes nuts. Yeah. and he was able to say, “Yeah, Dal didn’t.” So, a really good game from Stu. They’re going to give him obviously the start tomorrow against Dallas, who he uh plays really, really well with uh or plays really, really well against traditionally speaking. Um all right, I think we are on the verge here of getting one one second. We see him. We see Louie. We’re so close. Aaron would be so proud of us if we can pull this off. Um the uh I’m always curious by some people in the chat like this guy’s name is Sanu and he said Robi Dventi and he had the the quotation things. Does that mean he’s from Finland? Bring them right in. We don’t even need an ad read. Oh, okay. We’re so close. We’re so close. Liam, we’ve been we’ve been vamping about so many different things. I know. I want to know. Let me know, Sans, if you’re from Europe. I’m curious by our European listeners. I’m always uh very grateful for them. Yanni especially. Yanni calls me on my BS and that’s fine. Sometimes everyone needs to be checked a little bit. Looking like I’m right. I’m like I’m like patiently watching the producers screen right here. Like just waiting and waiting. Uh 6:30 puck drop. Let me do one more read for pre and postgame show coming up today. Uh 5:30 start. I’ll be hosting pre and post with our guys Zach Lang live down from Dog Patch. So come on down for a pizza, for a burger, for a taco salad. Liam. Oh, and I get to do it tomorrow on pizza Tuesdays at Dog Patch. Heck yeah. Uh Mike Tyson. My Tyson in the chat says there stew rumors. Are those fake? They’re not fake. They’re just old. They’re old. All right, let’s uh bring in our friend Louis de Brusk here as we head out to our guest line. Lou, I am I am so sorry for that. I hope you were entertained by just our mindless dribble. It’s funny cuz I’m I can see you. I can see myself. I’m listening to the conversation. I was really disappointed. I’ll be honest, that you didn’t bring me in for the cookies and milk conversation. Are you kidding me? Not a good hotel. I don’t drink Oh, it’s an awesome hotel. I don’t drink milk a whole lot anymore, but when I do, there’s always a cookie involved or there’s a peanut butter and banana sandwich involved. So, those are the two times to drink milk. But, uh, yeah. No, all good. I knew I knew something was going on because I could hear you talking and I could see you and I even said a few words thinking am I on? Do they hear me or what’s going on? But hey, the beautiful world of technology. How you doing today, guys? I’m doing you’re in mixed emotions. I’m terrible. Um how did you handle working through the Blue Jays game the other day? You know what? Um I I actually thought it was really exciting. I did. Now, we’re kind of used to that in our headset with people talking with noises. We’re used to kind of reacting off the crowd. When I hear the crowd during the game kind of get up in an uproar when there’s not a World Series game seven going on, I’m typically looking to see what it is. Is it something that happened in the crowd? Is there something on the big screen? So, I think certainly more distracting for some of the players who are Jays fans as well. Um, but they’ve got to go to work. They’re trying to dig in and pretty hard fought game against Chicago Blackhawks. But for me, I kind of liked it. I thought it was pretty great. Um Jack had the hard part. Jack had the hard part cuz he’s trying to give updates and scores and he’s doing it live while he’s calling a live hockey game and uh you know, not easy to do. But unfortunately, they didn’t pull it out. I think it would have been so awesome if they would have pulled that out, but just wasn’t meant to be. Just wasn’t meant to be. So, obviously, Sarah, I was going to say you’re on the bench while this is all going on. Yeah. Could you see I know he’s talked about you being on the bench before and like sometimes you don’t really see what’s fully happening from the players, but like could you kind of see them like McDavid said like he was just found himself watching the game. Could you see them looking up a little bit like what’s happening now? Well, we we purposely didn’t have it on my screens in the bench. So, just so you know, I have a screen in front of me. I have a screen to my left which is my ISO camera if my producer wants to show me some clips or something during the play. Program monitor in front of me. You’ll see the players huddle around me sometimes on a review to kind of get a good look at the screen. Calvin Picker today told me way better eyes than I have. He’s got young eyes. He saw the puck on the pad when Darnell Nur scor scored from the sharp angle and it was counted a goal. He he said he thought he saw a little bit. I said, “Why didn’t you just tell me? Jump in there, man. Get in the get on the mic and let me know.” But it was kind of funny cuz the players um they love to see the reviews. They love to come in and try and break it down. But also in this situation, we purposely didn’t put it on our screens because we didn’t want the players being distracted looking over and seeing the J score. Listen there, I know it’s a game. I know it’s hockey, but these guys are professionals that get paid a lot of money to play a game. And once they’re on that bench, and even when I’m on their bench, I’m in their world and I try and let them do what they do. Right. I’m moving constantly. I’m not interacting with a lot of players. There’s some that will interact with me, a little knuckles here and there, a little hello, but for the most part, I’m just trying to be as tiny as a 270lb human being can be on the bench and uh not get in their way. These guys are dialed in. Um, and obviously it’s something that they’re very interested in. Um, you know, this is the World Series game seven. Doesn’t get too much more exciting than that. But for them to try and check that, put on the back burner and play a game. More difficult for them for sure. Not for me. I thought it was great. I got married 3 months ago. It was a beautiful ceremony. I did not shed one single tear at my wedding. I am not afraid to admit that I cried after they lost that game on Saturday night. And I’ll be honest, Louie, when I went to rewatch the Oilers game that I PVR because of the job I have, I need to know how the game went. And there’s the moment where Jack says on the call, I think the Blue Jays have won the World Series. I watched that back today. Almost cried again. Yeah. Yeah. Just keep replaying it, you know. Just believe it. Believe it until you see it, right? But uh yeah, I felt bad for Jack cuz listen, Jack prides himself on getting things bang on. He’s watching it on the screen. Everybody’s celebrating and going crazy. And that’s when he said the Jays have just won the World Series. And then there’s a review just like in hockey. Oh, wait a second. They’re going to take a look at this one. I didn’t get involved cuz I didn’t have the screen, right? He had the screen upstairs. He was watching cuz he wanted to give updates. Me personally, I had both my screens on the hockey game. So, I was kind of living through him as well with updates. And the odd time we’d see it up on the big screen, which they they would show periodically. So, yeah. You know what? Um, that’s what happens. You know what? It was an exciting series. I mean, wow. I’m not I’ll be honest with you guys, Ty and Liam. I’m not a huge baseball fan. Loved it growing up. My dad’s favorite game. didn’t have it in my hometown, so I never played it. But I played in the ball in the playground. I played in the field. Love the game. Respect the athletes. Really got into this World Series, though. And you know, the run of the Jays this year, and I I’ll tell you what, it was uh it was pretty exciting to see them all get dialed in and play. They just came up a little bit short. I think it’s a team though that can get there again. I think it’s a team that, you know, isn’t going anywhere from from what I’ve heard. And we’ll see what happens. But tough to see them lose it the way they lost it cuz they had it. And I think the Dodgers know they got a little bit lucky, but great teams do get lucky. Great teams get lucky and they find a way and they certainly found a way in a situation where they probably shouldn’t have won that World Series. All right. Uh we won’t keep you too much longer, but we’re going to throw two Oilers questions your way. I loved I did watch after hours as I sat in my sadness on my couch and the montage you guys played of Jack Rosik going opportunity, opportunity and all the times he said opportunity. I loved it. Jack seemed great and Jack’s play on the ice has been getting better and better over the last week. It has. You know what? It took him a little bit of time. He admitted that when you miss training camp and you’re not in a on a roster and you’re not skating with the guys every day, it’s going to take some time. Jake Walman’s going through a little bit of that, too. I talked to him this morning. Feels good, but he’s not 100% there. And you don’t expect him to be. It takes a little bit of time to catch up. This league waits for nobody. But I really like the way Jack’s been skating and that’s the key. He’s a great skater. He can transport the puck up and down the ice. He can transport the puck in small spaces with coverage and he makes a good play. I mean, he he has a real good hockey sense. He’s a cerebral smart player. He was suppressed in Winnipeg when he first came into the league. You know, two one of two first round picks that year. Kyle Connor the other. And we know what Kyle Connor’s done in his career. Jumped around a little went and played for his hometown Columbus Blue Jackets. Went to conference finals back to back with the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. So, this is a player that people have picked up in critical times in the season to try and bolster lineup and it’s happened both times that they’ve done that. You know, he’s come on board and he’s been able to produce. He’s also at a an age now where I think with the word opportunity that he used when he had his press conference was no joke. He’s looking at this and saying, “Okay, I’ve gone to two conference finals. This team’s gone to the final two years in a row. There’s an opportunity for me here to jump in and do something that I can do very well.” And I think if you look at he almost played 23 minutes the other night. He played more than Leon Dryidle. Okay. He was the second highest forward in ice time behind Conor McDavid. That tells me a ton. That tells me a lot from what the coach thinks of his play right now. And he’s buzzing. And right now, this team needs guys that are buzzing and that are jumping in there. So, good on him for coming in and sensing an opportunity, but grabbing the reigns on one two. He wants to stay on that line and they’ll be intact tonight. Pod Kohl’s and Dry Cidle and Ross Levik. I wanted to ask you about the blue line. Obviously, there’s been Bousard’s made some glaring errors. We’ve seen Darnell Nurse have a tough time as well. And I want to ask you about him. He’s such an interesting player because he got so much criticism Nurse did after that period against Utah. Then after that, he played pretty well. Obviously, a two-goal game against the Rangers and then he did well against Chicago again the other day, too. And I was thinking back to in the playoffs a couple of years ago when the Oilers went and they lost in seven games, but it was against Dallas. like he was getting very criticized then, but then he came out and had like 15 hits or something stupid like that in a game like he seems to like and it’s unfortunate he has to get to like almost the lowest of lows for him where you’re not seeing him at his best, but he’s able to bounce back really really well and just like find his game again. Again, it seems to come when he’s at his worst almost, but he’s able to get back to where he needs to be. Yeah. Yeah, you know, sometimes, let’s face it, sometimes you have to kind of take a shot to kind of understand it’s time for me to get going. You know, it’s uh you know, it’s one way of putting it in a fight. You There was always those fighters that they get hit and it’s almost like they get better once they get hit because it’s like, oh boy, this is for real. This is this is you know I think every every human being with the exception of maybe a few the very elite elite and maybe like that 1% if you can if it can be comfortable they’ll they’ll accept that right okay I can just play in a wheelchair with a rocking chair here I can make this look easy it’s not a big deal um I think that for for nurse though um in particular he’s a competitor you know he wants to be um a factor he wants to be a big game player and he knows he can be. That’s the thing. He also has the confidence that he can be. So when it doesn’t go his way, he can get a little like a little a little agitated, which which I think for me is when he starts to play his best, when he gets that little chip on his shoulder. Uh we saw in the playoffs early on stepping up with big hits. He’s in every scrum. I mean, he’s protecting the front of the net. When they start to sit back and relax a little too much for me, I just think that they start to get complacent, and that’s when they’re not moving their feet. Darnell is an excellent skater offensively and defensively when he’s moving his feet. He can stay with anybody. So that to me is the primary thing. And I think that this team as a whole, two years in a row, we’ve seen it, guys, that they haven’t gotten off to great starts. Evan Buchard, right? He didn’t get off to a great start last year. He hasn’t gotten off to a terrific start this year. He has nine points in the last seven games. It can turn like that. Like that’s how fast it turns. And I think the coaching staff knows that. I mean, Chris Knobblock has talked about it. He keeps putting these guys back together again. And I know why people say, “Why aren’t you changing this up, putting this guy this way?” They keep putting them back together because they’re professionals and they know they’re going to figure it out and they’re going to start to play to their capabilities, which we’re starting to see. It hasn’t 100% gotten there yet, but we’re starting to see glimpses of we’re starting to see periods at a time of this. And now it’s about trying to put that complete game together and just doing that on a consistent basis. That’s what digging into the season is all about. And I would say there’s a lot of guys in that dressing room right now that need to kind of look at that and start to try and be consistent throughout a hockey game because there has been a lot of roller coaster rides during the season. Not only from game to game, but in games in games from period to period, shift to shift. There’s been a real roller coaster ride with momentum and just the way the team’s playing. And you know, that’s the early season. I’ve just talked to a St. Blues team that lost seven in a row. And Braden Shen’s been around for a long time. And he’s sitting there saying, “We’re just not getting the breaks right now, but we know we have to stay playing the way we’re playing to be successful. It’s not just Edmonton. This is the entire league with a very condensed schedule right now. There’s a lot of teams that are trying to figure it out on the fly. And there’s not a whole lot of time to make adjustments with next day you’re playing another game. Let’s get after it.” So, it’s just about putting putting the work in, the mentality in, and playing as a team. And I think we’re seeing signs of it, but they need to defend better. Simply put, that’s for me. That’s the one thing right now. This isn’t about scoring goals in offense. This is about team defense. Defend harder. Less goals against makes it a little easier in the offensive department. A losing team is a hungry team, especially at this point in the year when when a team like St. Louis, you know, they’re just going to be desperate tonight. Any loss is it feels like their season is slipping away more and more. Like they they’re going to give it everything in this one. and they get geared up to play Edmonton. We’ve talked about this. We know this. Uh Evon knows this, too. This is, if you look at the last five games, they’ve been very tight. Very close game, hard foughts, overtime games, onegoal games. This is a veteran team. This is a team that knows how to grind out wins under Jim Montgomery. Um heartbreaking loss to the Jets last year in, you know, dramatic fashion to be eliminated from the playoffs. This is a team that’s won a Stanley Cup, still has carryovers from that 19 cup. They understand what it takes to go on long runs. They will be ready tonight. And they don’t like the way things are going. And from the conversations with that I had with players this morning and with Jim Montgomery, they look at this again as a team. Okay, this is a team coming in. We know we have to be ready. Maybe this is the game that gets us out of this. So Edmonton’s got to look at that from the reverse and understand they’re coming into a tough building with a team that’s very motivated, like you say, Ty, to play a solid game and look for a win in the first time in eight games. I mean, it’s early season, but the season can run away from you. Um, this is always a late team, though. The St. Louis Blues didn’t start great last year either, but they certainly turned it on. This is a team that knows how to turn it on for Edmonton. They want to keep it there like it is right now for one more game at least. But, it’s going to be a tough battle tonight. Louie, appreciate your time. Thank you for being patient with us. Uh, cookies and milk on cookies and milk on me next time we see you. Always in for cookies and milk. All right, see you. Thanks, Louis. See you. All right, there you go. Louis De Brusk, Sportsnet analyst. Always a pleasure having Louis on the show. Appreciate him making it work today. From the road, no Louis truck. It was Louis the hotel room. That’s my Jean Prince of impression on it. There you go. But yeah, Louis was the best there. I did want to ask him a bit about Conor McDavid, too, because I really like the way McDavid played in that game against Chicago. just a couple of little things that I feel like McDavid was starting to find in his game again, refinding his game again. So, uh, shout out to Louis. Um, we got a couple minutes left in the show, so we’re going to do what’s trending here. Uh, it’s going to be brought to you by our friends at Star Mechanical, Edmonton’s number one plumbing and heating company. You can find out more by visiting them online at star mechanical.ca. Residential commercial 24/7 emergency service. They do it all, they do it well at star mechanical. Um, did you see the SNL skit this weekend? I literally just clicked on that thing on Twitter. It’s at 3.3 million impressions. Yeah. So, SNL did another hockey skit this weekend. Um, and it’s three hockey players shooting a PSA and there’s a player I’ll just do the short of it and you can all go find the video later. I don’t think we’ll be able to play it. Um, there’s a King LA King, there’s a New York Ranger, there’s a Nashville Predator and they’re doing a PSA for like charity work. And the Kings player goes, “Not only am I a king on the ice, I’m a king in my community.” And the Ranger goes, “And I’m a ranger in my community.” And the predator guy goes, “And I’m a predator in my community.” Then they do like a whole like, “Wait, wait, wait. Can we do this better?” But it is very funny because I remember a super viral Tik Tok from like 2 years ago where or maybe it wasn’t even two years ago. Might have only been a year ago, but someone is at a Yeah. at a playground in Nashville and it’s like the donations for this playground and it goes Nashville Predator Yeah. the Nashville Predators Community Foundation. And someone’s like, “What the hell? The Predators have a It’s a very funny very funny way to spin it. Yeah. Uh Miles Teller, I think it was who had it on that. Yeah. They also did uh um during their rookie camp this year, they had the pres in the community. That I’m pretty sure that’s kind of somebody on SNL must have saw that and went, “Hold on a sec.” Yeah, that is a bad like they’re doing a lot of good things, but my goodness, you got to think of something else. Like surely you write that down the first person I thought like ah probably can’t do predators in the community you know. Yep. Got to be something better than that. Yeah. Got to be something. Uh Matthew Schaefer by the way very very good at hockey. Yes. Last time I heard. So he is up to 10 points in his first 12 career games as a defenseman. I went and looked today for Daily Faceoff Live. The daily national hockey show I do for dailyfaceoff.com with Carter Hunt. um his through 12 games he has 10 points. That is even with what Kale Mar did through his first 12 games. It is more than what Hudson, Hughes, and Fox all did in their first 12 career games. And he is 18 years old. I was going to say none of those guys played as a true a true rookie. I guess we can call him. No, none of them played as an 18-year-old. He is unbelievable. He is going to win. Norris is plural. The other layer to it, which I just thought about now, he basically missed an entire season. He didn’t really play last season. He played tw 17 games for the Ariatas last season. Missed 60% of his draft year. Like, it’s crazy, dude. Yeah, like it’s unbelievable what he’s able to do. And uh yeah, such a great player. Obviously, a lot of people know his story. It’s good to see those people be able to come out on the other side of that tragedy and have such great success. And look, the Islanders are a team that I think when the Islanders are good, I think it’s good for the NHL. Yeah, I can agree with that. He can uh try and drive him back up to the top a little bit. Uh Devils signed Jacob Marshmall to an extension over the weekend. Two years, $6 million. That do anything for you? Does nothing for me. Yeah, I don’t really care all that much either. Disappointed. Actually, he should be disappointed because he was almost an Oiler. Should have been an oiler. Um yeah, he said no to us. Do you think about that? Like Blake Coleman was another guy who said no to the others. Mark I think there was one other guy who went to Calgary too. Maybe it was a little bit before those guys like what was it? What was it that did that for you? We had Michael Knander too who signed for us and then that was way way back. That was a lot older. But yeah. Oh uh there was a report from Freriedman over the weekend too uh that the Oilers are looking for a soft landing spot for Troy Ster. So the team kind of just accepting that he’s not going to have a role but they want to do right by a veteran player. I’m honestly surprised they’re not just going to try to sneak him through waiverss, but I’m assuming they’ve had conversations around the league and know he won’t get through. So, they might maybe get something for him. If they get a pick for Troy Ster, what a win. Yeah, what they get a fourth round pick. I think they were joking about it the other day or maybe you said it. Uh Utah has the other fourth round pick this year. Maybe it’s the year after because of the Troy Tes trade. Yeah, we were talking about that on our show. Yeah. So, hey, if you can get anything close to that back, fourth round pick seems like a lot. I feel like they’ll get a sixth. They might get a six. Yeah, six or seven. Like, it’s good to get those picks. Yeah, I get a pick back. Were you thinking of Matt Needto? Oh, that was a weird one. Yeah, it was a weird one. Yeah, Matt. He signed that. It was like It was like the Oilers have signed Matt Needto. I was like, “Okay.” And then it was like, “Ah, he changed his mind.” Yeah. Is Matt still in the league? I don’t know. I think he’s on Pittsburgh. I don’t Maybe. Um, so yeah, we’ll see. We’ll see what happens with uh Troy Stadia. Good Oiler. You know what? You got that guy for a fourth round pick. I know he didn’t really He got injured, didn’t he? But do you know, like there’s been guys on this team, Derek Prasad, who just left. Yeah. Troy Ster was here that entire playoff run. Yep. They ended up signing it, resigning him. A guy that you never hear like you never hear like, I need to play every game. I demand a trade. I have so much respect for him as an NHLer and just as a person. I think he’s great. It’s just the time has come where you got to turn the page. And Regula is your seventh defenseman. A guy that to undrafted. Yeah. Played for the V’s. Go V’s go. Um and grinded his way out to 566 NHL games. Good for him. Way to go, Troy. Hell of a career to carve out. Not that your career is over by any means. Um could the Vancouver Conucks use another defenseman? Feel like they could use a bit of anything. They be they just Kefir Sherwood Canucks right now. That guy is so annoying. What a player. Kefir Sherwood gonna go for a first round pick at the deadline or are they going to resign into a stupid deal? Oh, that’d be so funny if they gave him like a 6×6. They will. They They did it with Dakota Joshua and then they some for some reason took on a Vander Kane. Like there’s just some players you look at in the NHL and you’re like you’re a good player and I think Dakota Joshua is a good player but I know I shouldn’t pay you 4 million. Yeah. Jake is in early season overreaction. Do they resign Rosik next season at this moment? I was thinking about this on the way in. Doubtful. Okay. Oh Liam. I don’t think that you need to resign him now. No. Just say this kind of keeps on going and you look at him and like what would like what would you pay him? Like he’s not a $10 million player obviously, but like what if they’re like, “Hey, Roswell, how old is he?” Like 28. 28. Three is six million per. Yeah. No, you can’t sign yourself up for that. He couldn’t get a contract a month ago. But look at if it works and all of a sudden you’re like, “This guy’s working so well with Leon.” He Okay. Three. He’s 28 years old. It ain’t six. It can’t be six. What is it? I I four and you say, “Hey, here’s 8 million bucks.” 4 million bucks. What is he? He’s a He’s a top six winger current. Currently, he’s a top six winger who you can spot on your power play and can score at five and five, but he doesn’t kill penalties and he’s bad defensively. He’s anti he’s reverse Pud Coulson, but you’ve been looking so long for two wingers to play with Dryidle right now. You’ve got one signed up for 3 million. What is Pud Coulson is around there and then you got Ros. I don’t know. Like obviously he’s got to keep this going. We’re living on a bit of a 2×4, 3×3, like Brian says. I just think the cap’s going up so much. There’s no way that guy’s signing anywhere for that little. And I know this year too he didn’t sign. I understand that. But well, okay. So like I wonder like I maybe I’m out for lunch, but So if you think he’s $6 million, who would you rather have him at six on a 3×6 or would you rather have a 2×7 to Anders Lee? Uh Rosik Andre Zi’s 36 34 but could he still get you 30 goals for a year or two? But that’s more likely to fail than a Rosik. There’s more of a chance Andress Lee becomes a third line player than Rosik falls down to a third line player. I would I would like the others to get an Andress Lee, too. See, and my counterpoint there is if Jack Rosik is playing in your bottom six, he’s probably pretty useless, especially on that contract. Anders Lee at least you can sit there and be like, you know what, he’s gonna play the right way. We’ll throw him in the bottom six. 29 goals last season for Andre. This would be interesting. And again, I don’t know if I sign either of those guys to those contracts. And like uh Gourd says in the chat, aim higher. Yes. Who’s higher though? That’s my question. Well, you’re trademark it. But would you Hey, 3×6 for uh Jack Rosik or what if Jordan Everly puts his hand up and says, I want to win 2×4. Yeah, right. But we don’t know that. Yeah, we don’t know that. Yeah, and you’re right. We don’t know what. And we don’t know what Ros is speculation. I’m living on the high right now, don’t get me wrong, but like I don’t know. Like I think Jane Schwarz, I do love James Schwarz, but again, all these guys are older. The point is is he is 28 years old. And people like he’s 20 goals at his peak. I agree. I would love 20 goals. I love 20 goals every year. And the way I’m kind of like in my head, I should have prefaced this. I feel like a $4 million player, like you said, is now is what was a $2 million player. Like we sit here and like Trent Frederick, how could he do this? He’s billing so bad. So, okay, but in like two years, it’s going to be fourth iron player money. The cap’s going up so much. So, like I say, $6 million player, that’s probably the $4 million he was looking at. And of course, if you can go out there and like Tyler puts in the chat, Ta Thompson, yes, 100%. Ta Thompson or Jack Rosik. It’s not I’m not comparing those two, but like we’re talking about guys here like every summer the Oilers are like, “We need a top six winger. What are we going to do? Can we get ason for four million? Should we try out Jeff Skinner?” It’s like, well, what if you just have it? What if you just have your top six winger at home and you can just pay him a little bit of money? We have a top six winger at home. Like look at the top six right now. If and obviously Heyman’s got to come into it, but like that’s really good. Y that’s a really good top six. And again, I’m not signing him today or tomorrow, this is something I’m looking at. Like I need a full season sample size, but if the end of the year Razic ends up with 20 goals, just say 45, 50 points somewhere around there. And you know, every single night he has given you a game next to Leon Dryidor. How can you not pay that guy? Yeah, I don’t even want 10 million. $6 million seems like a hell of a deal. It’s only a few mill a few hundred bucks more than uh Heyman and NG. I I don’t think you’d ever pay him more than five five and a half. Sure. I’d pay that. I think six is my bar by the way. Like that’s like the peak I would go. Yeah. But uh Mul says, “I know we aren’t talking about them, but I’d rather see them promote the younger guys and sign the depth guys at league minimum. Allah, Dallas, and Florida.” Yeah, I I also get where you’re coming there. All right, we’ve gone late. Um we could probably save this conversation for tomorrow. Um game day. Yeah. And even a guy like Dave Pñota might be able to give us some insight. He’s our guest tomorrow. It’s a game day edition of the show. once again tomorrow. I am on pre and postgame tonight 5:30 start right here on the Oilers Nation YouTube. I’ll be live immediately following the game as well. Uh so tune in to that. It was a wild weekend in the sports world, and the boys are here to break it all down on today’s episode of Oilersnation Everyday!
We’ll start with the elephant in the room — the Toronto Blue Jays heartbreak. After dropping both Games 6 and 7 of the World Series, the Jays fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending an incredible playoff run. We’ll get Tyler’s reaction to the loss and talk about what went wrong in the final two games.
Then, we’ll shift to the Edmonton Oilers, who picked up a 3–2 OT win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. Edmonton’s stars stepped up when it mattered — Connor McDavid led the way with three points, Leon Draisaitl added a goal and an assist, and Evan Bouchard redeemed himself with the OT winner after his rough outing versus the Rangers. Stuart Skinner was solid too, stopping 27 of 29 shots on his 27th birthday.
After the recaps, we’ll turn our attention to tonight’s matchup against the St. Louis Blues, getting you set with all the lineup info, game notes, and betting insight in our Bet365 Game Day Betting Challenge.

The amount of times this show starts and the mic’s aren’t working properly is insane 😂
F*ck the Jays. I’m tired of hearing about baseball on a hockey podcast. Thank god the dodgers won
I was just starting to get over the Blue Jay. Thanks for reminding me how shitty that was.
I got 402 trick or treaters 😂
As a Wisconsin sports fan + oilers fan, I was gutted for you guys on Saturday. I was hoping for a BrewJays WS, then definitely wanted to see you guys kick the dodgers ass.
The only argument I will make is I think how my team (the packers) lost in the 2014 nfc championship is worse than 13 seconds.
But that game 7 loss is the most heartbreaking baseball loss I’ve ever seen
How many goals will the Oilers score tonight?
Why does Tyler hate Roslovic?
