Should Dan Quinn have taken Jayden Daniels OUT vs. Seahawks?! 😳 ‘I was surprised’ 😱 | Get Up
Important things you should know. The squad is here and we’re ready to roll. We are 25 minutes commercial free right off the top. So if you have a clicker, put it away. You don’t need it. Second, all the things I just told you when the te’s are coming. But we begin while you were sleeping. The entire fortunes of an NFL franchise may have been completely reversed by a critical coaching decision. It was Sam Darnold and the Seahawks. It was Jaden Daniels and the Commanders early. It was all Seattle. We got Jaden lofting it up and we got a pitch with a seven nothing score. Oh, you going to give a DB a jump ball. We going to finish that one. Get the other foot down. Turnovers are awesome. Seahawks were just dominating the entire first half last night and a lot of it Dwood Sam Darnold was dealing. Absolutely. I mean, look at look at the pinpoint accuracy by Sam D. He’s been doing good doing these type of things all season long. 14- nothing Seattle and they’re just getting started. So, this is after the touchdown, the ensuing kickoff. You got Jaylen Lane returning it and not Well, Rex, what can’t we do? Uh, can’t fumble that thing, Greeny. But he certainly did right there. You know, it’s either going to be a touchdown or a fumble on this thing is why we’re showing it, but it’s a fumble here. That’s correct. With the foreshadowing, Seattle takes it away and then on they go. Sheffy Elijah Aoyo going to take it in. Sam Darnold had a perfect first half. He has been on the money. They love him in Seattle. They feel like they’ve dramatically upgraded the position. He was 16 of 16 282 and four touchdowns in the first half. Now we take you to the fourth quarter cuz this game is decided and we’re showing you a punt. Why? Because down 38-7 the commanders chose to punt. That’s waving the white flag. And then inexcusably with 7 and 1/2 minutes left in the game, Dane Daniels is still in. They’re running an RPO and you probably saw what happened to his left arm. We’re not going to show it to you up close. It is every bit as bad as you could ever possibly fear. Seahawks win it 3814, but that is not the story. Here was Dan Quinn, coach of the Commanders, after the game. Was there any consideration to not having Jaden go in for that series in which he got injured and having Marcus finish it out? Yeah, not not of the space. I mean, obviously like the hindsight, you don’t want to think that way where, you know, an injury could take place. Um, you know, obviously we’re more conservative in that spot to, you know, run and hand off and not have reads to go, but uh, just the end result, Mickey. Obviously, I’m I’m bummed. Bummed is an interesting way to put it. Shafty, take it. Jaden Daniels dislocated his elbow. He’s going to have an MRI today to confirm that diagnosis, which I think everybody saw what happened. He’s going to be out indefinitely. Think about where the Commanders are in their season and think about how much Jaden Daniels means to that franchise. And think about the history of this franchise. I would venture to tell you right now there’s a realistic chance that Jaden Daniels will not play again this season. Maybe he’s ready to come back later on, but that would assume that this team is capable of stringing together enough wins, keeping it alive until he can get healthy whenever that may be. That’s even if he can come back. But I think there’s a real chance that we’ve seen the last of Jane Daniels with a memory that will hang over this team this season for what happened in that particular situation. Everybody will talk about it. It’ll be assessed, especially considering the history of franchise. But that was as unfortunate a play as you could possibly imagine. The game was over. It was out of hand. People were asleep. and all of a sudden this enormously significant play unfolds that’s going to have huge ramifications. The reason we wanted to put the punt in the highlight, the reason we showed you the Commanders punting and Rex, it’s it is a luxury for me to have a head coach here when you punt down 38-7 in the fourth quarter. What are you saying? Yeah, I mean the white flag’s out like we’re conceding the you know, I mean obviously the game’s over. We know that. So at that point we understand the game is over. The seven and a half minutes left, you’re losing by 31 points. It is very easy for me sitting here to say, “Why in the world is my star quarterback still on the field running RPOS’s?” You’ve actually been the person who had to make those decisions. What is your reaction to the way it was handled? Yeah, look, I mean, I’ve left starters out there before. All right. And but your play design is obviously let’s just run the ball. We’re going to get through this game. Now, I’ll say this. I never had a superstar quarterback. M you know I had I had guys I got my quarterback hurt u in a preseason game Sanchez. All right and he was competing for the job at the time with Gino Smith by the way but in this situation once you punt I was surprised that he stayed in the game. All right and and again obviously it’s a huge mistake but I have left starters out there and and we just run the football and things like that. This is obviously a horrendous situation that happened here. Football players play and I think most of the time I would love to shoot the coach a little bit of bail and say I understand you’re going to leave your guy out there but you have to understand the context of this player in this situation. The big knock on Jaden Daniels coming out of the draft was he’s puts himself in harm’s way and it’s come to fruition week after week after week. There really is no reason and understand the roster is not big enough to pull everybody out. We can’t we just can’t do it. But the quarterback, the franchise player who is coming off of two injuries this year, missed some games last year and has a history of throwing himself into bad situations. Like I think it’s reasonable to be kind of harsh in your criticism of Dan Quinn this morning considering all that context and all this player means to that franchise. It just, you know, when I got the got the news about it, you know, the first thing I thought about was like, “Oh boy, it’s happening again. It’s happening again.” Meaning again meaning RG RG3 it’s happening again. and and and you know, we we know we know what what Jaden Daniels means to this franchise. All you got to do is just go back to last year. Just go back to last year. Don’t tell me like that roster by the Washington Commanders like that one singular person lifted the whole organization and had that team on the doorstep of the Super Bowl last year and here it is. He’s been off injury this year and he again put himself in harm’s way and now like Sheffy talked about this a guy that’s probably going to be lost for the rest of the season. And I live in DC, so I can tell you how different it felt around there. There’s so many Cowboys fans in DC that decided to start entertaining the idea of rooting for the Commanders last year. We were talking a lot about curses being lifted, getting rid of the stink of the former owner in that organization. It felt like we’re in a new direction. It felt like we’re in championship games over this next few years. A Super Bowl is on the horizon or at least competing for a Super Bowl’s on the horizon. and you got at least 10, 15 years of this great quarterback and then you watch his elbow, fortunately not his throwing arm, but then you watch his elbow go the wrong way. It’s a devastating night and obviously the decision by the coach is going to be questioned heavily for a long time and I’m sure he’s questioning it himself. He’s a wellrespected and very well-liked person, but that strikes me as one of the biggest mistakes we’ve seen a coach make in this NFL season. The likeliest team to make it to the Super Bowl. And then we get to Packers Panthers and the upset of the year. Green Bay a 13 and a half point favorite at home. But hold on in their ridiculous uniforms. Packers are trailing 76. Rex Jordan Love throwing deep. What are we doing? Uh doing what Jordan Love does. I told you you guys nobody wants to listen. No love for Jordan Love. Why? Because of these type plays. This first and 10 when he made that throw. Threw that into a team meeting. The Panthers take it over. Now the Packers are going for it on a fourth and eight in the scoring area. This is a crazy play, Dominique. What exactly does he wind up doing? He Yeah, it’s impressive scrambling, but you can’t put a man out there in a leather helmet and expect him to throw a forward pass like this. Who’s he throwing this to? The pre-integration pass out there. Definitely asking for a turnover. That’s unfortunate. Okay, in the meantime, somehow the Packers play the worst game you’ve ever seen. And this Josh Jacobs touchdown winds up tying it. It would be he goes in. They over initially call him short. They overrule it. It’s the right call. It’s a touchdown. We’re tied at 13. Packers are going to still win as bad as they played. Right. Wrong. Rico leaving no doubt. This guy 130 some yards rushing in this game. 130 yards and two touchdowns and it leads to this. One second left. Rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald for the win. Hold down. The kick is up into the win. It is gone. [Applause] Brian Fitzgerald delivers and the Panthers a two touchdown underdog come to Lambo and pull off the upset. Fox Sports with the call. Bryce Young fired up. Panthers on the road pulling off an enormous win. We had a week last week where all the favorites won. This week it was a festival of underdogs. Despite outgainaining the Panthers by over a 100 yards and not punting, the Packers still scored only 13 points. It is the fewest points scored in a Packers game where they didn’t punt since September of 1967. Wow. And the records show I was born a month before that. That game they actually turned it over eight times, but still somehow managed to beat the Bears. In this game, they did not manage to beat the Bears. So, there’s a lot of reaction to have here. There was also an enormous injury to add to the insult. We’ll get to that. But we start. Rex Jordan Love, you have always What? What are we doing? What are we doing here? Oh, boom. Did I call my shot again, right? Again. I don’t know. Don’t hate. Just just just admit it. Just admit it. I don’t know what you’re saying. What is it? What is the it we’re admitting? Because he he forces the like sometimes he makes like bonehead mistakes in critical times. Now, look, this one I get it. It’s it’s fourth down. You’re you’re trying to throw something up there. But this is typical. Like it’s good thing that this guy got beat for hands. Like come on. That would have been another pick and that probably would have been a pick six. So and and but this one here blows me away. This is first and 10. You’re right, Gren throws it into a team meeting. There’s three Panthers standing back there like giving your guy a shot. Not in this case in the middle of the field here on first and 10. that that’s why sometimes this young man becomes reckless and that’s why I’m not all that’s not why I’m not you know all in on this team. We’ve got we’ve got the Jordan Love piece of it. There’s another thing I I feel a need to ask the players who were sitting here. Okay. The Packers had just a week before played against Aaron Rogers which is obviously an enormously emotional game for Green Bay for any number of obvious reasons. Next week they have a Monday night date with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. sandwiched in between this game at home where they were 13 and 12 point favorite against Carolina. Is that a trap game? Yeah, I mean I think it may have been a trap game, but I think you’re asking the wrong person on the panel about that. Like you need to talk to the coaches because I think that’s what happens is the coaches put all their good ideas into one week and then they start advanced scouting for the following week and then in the middle we got this little game. We just run the same stuff we ran last week. It’s going to work. I don’t think the players oftent times I don’t think it’s the players who come up short in those trap game situations. It’s the coaches. Isn’t that interesting? You agree with that, Dwood? I totally agree with that because listen, any any or any team that I play played on that was worth anything. These were the type of games where like the practices were the hardest because the coaches would be like, “No, no, no, guys. Like, we’re not going to fall into this quote unquote trap. We’re going to make sure that we hammer home that each and every week we have to be on top of our game. And so I agree with it’s usually falls on the coaches cuz these type of games they they roll out the same plays thinking, “Oh, we’re just playing the Panthers and we can just, you know, just play these type of plays and then look what happened.” Like like quite honestly, when you’re a coach, you got to come back. Your best coaching job are the games you’re supposed to win. And those are the ones cuz you got to get your guys up. Look, it’s, you know, human nature to say, I’m watching extra film. If we playing the Patriots, I’m going to be up. If we playing the Patriots, I’m watching, oh, I got Randy this week. Oh, I’m locked in. But it’s different these other situations. The type of nonsense coaches have come up with in order to motivate a team during the off week is incredible. My takeaway is don’t hit on Rex, blame Rex. That’s the first thing. Okay. The second thing is try to figure out Green Bay, a team that looked like a ferocious monster the first two weeks of the season. Now, the Packers have lost at Cleveland against the Browns and lost at home against the Panthers. And now they’ve lost their tight end, Park Tucker Craft. Went down yesterday with a knee injury. You’re talking about a tight end who might just be the best in the game. Brock Bowowers might have a but he goes down with a knee injury. They believe it to be a torn ACL. Very rarely are teams going to be wrong when they think something like this. He’s carded off the dejection, the loss, the significance of this. Jordan Love, as Hembo pointed out, when he targets Tucker Craft, has a passer rating higher than just about anybody in the league. You take away his most trusted, valuable target, somebody who was a weapon in the passing and run game on a team that is coming off about that’s a that’s about as bad a day as Jordan Love could have on his 27th birthday. It's unfortunate he got hurt again but people act like players only get hurt in the 4th quarter….players get paid to play and that's the risk
So Dom was criticizing the coach for leaving Daniels in there but in the same take says Daniels put himself in harms way but it's the HC fault 🤔
Everybody blaming the coach but tbh lotta these injuries this yr been on JD too he doesn’t kno how to take a tackle n fall correctly last nite was a prime example
This is like the Houston Texans last year. I’m no being pessimistic I’m being realistic… There’s no latter long enough for this years team to climb themselves out of the hole their in. A few players here and there but no one phase will catapult them to the playoffs or further if they squeak in. Just go get a high quality draft pick next year!
<Sigh!> I always accepted "getting rid of the stink" would reasonably take thirteen years… the amount of time it would take an expansion MLB franchise to put together a competitive roster and pipeline.
Regardless, last year was a start.
Robert Griffin all over again lol
Nobody Commanders fan likes hearing this but … c'mon, this is so like the RG3 experience it's scary.
I’m sorry that this happened, but now I have a chance to make a comeback this week in fantasy.
That field is cursed. How many Washington quarterbacks have gone out in a freak injury?
When a reporter starts the question with "Was there any consideration to …" what's really being said is "Are you a m*ron or what?"
Message to Dan you as a head coach always have a consider are you putting your franchise Quarterback in harms way/ 38/7 Jayden still in a 38/7 game is Ludicrous. But Ohhh I remember you lost a 21/3 lead in the Super Bowl against the patriots. So you definitely have fault judgement Tasha Mack is going to see you/ ASKA Jayden mother
Rex Ryan: I never had a superstar quarterback
Mark Sanchez took the Jets to two straight AFC Championships in his first two seasons….at that time, he was a superstar QB
Seahawks and Panthers deserve more credit
Everybody out here acting like they would have pulled him from the game! BS had he not got injured and finished the game just fine nobody would be cry that he was still out there when down by 30!
You don’t pull your starting QB just because you are losing at the end of the game.
It’s super easy for all you morons to say how you would have done better after the fact! Hindsight is 20/20!
Danials wanted to be out there! And that’s what he’s paid to do! You risk injury on every play not just when you are losing or the game is almost over or or or…..
3:30 No it’s not unfortunate. It’s stupid. There was no chance of a comeback, and the offensive coordinator and coach proved that they can’t protect their Franchise Quarterback. He should’ve been benched by the start of the 4th quarter minimum
I know it's not football related but I think of Derrick Rose and how the Bulls ruined his career because they kept him in the game while up with :16 left and he was never the same if you know you know. From a Cowboys fan to JD I hope he makes a full recovery. 🙏
been saying it for a while love is not it – the money greenbay paid him he robbed them
Praying the kid recovers fast, this really hurts the fans.
I said it from the moment the league started paying attention to JD…he’s too small and fragile. He’s not going to make it with how much he gets hit
This is similar to how they handled RG3. Ruining 2 potential franchise QBs!!! Unacceptable
Jayden hurts 😂😂😂 elbow chicken that boy 😊
This reminds me of Robert Griffin III getting wrecked by the 2012 Seahawks in Washington.
This is the exact same conversation that was had after Derrick Rose tore his ACL when he was kept in a blowout game much longer than he should've been.
With those Packer throwback uniforms…losing is inevitable.
The clippers losses are energy or urgency losses not talent losses.
When caleb got sacked 68 times it was all his fault and not his O line, because he held on to the ball too long. But when jayden daniels drops back makes zero read and tries to take off and gets hit, its his line and coaches fault….crazy how that works
