Andy Dalton speaks to the media after Week 8 against Buffalo | Carolina Panthers

what went wrong in general in your opinion? Well, turnovers didn’t help. Uh, you know, feel like we had a lot of momentum at at times and then, you know, I turned the ball over a couple times that, you know, I didn’t give as much of a chance today and so I’ve got to be better. I think that’s the the moral of it. How frustrating is that for you personally when to have those those turnovers, especially that one in the red zone where Yeah, it’s uh you know, it’s tough. Obviously, I’ve got to do a better job of protecting the ball and you know, especially at that point, early in the game, we had momentum and we were going down to score and you know, got to hold on to it. At the end of the first half, you got that chance of timeout. what happened on that play? Yeah, I can’t take a sack. I should have found a way to throw it away and uh put us in a tough situation there and we were unable to to get points at the end of the half. Andy, did it kind of just feel like the offensive line, the turnovers that like it just kept piling on and piling on um from a lack of momentum standpoint? Yeah, I mean there’s like I said times early in the game we felt like we were moving the ball well and even I mean throughout the game we were moving the ball well and we just end up shooting ourselves in the foot got in some tough situations and uh we weren’t able to overcome that. Andy Dave said he went in the locker room and talked about it’s one game. How hard is it to kind of hear that message and live it when one’s like that? Yeah, it’s obviously tough. They all count one. We have been um on the other other end of that the last three weeks and so it’s been a different feeling in the locker room and uh you know unfortunately today we didn’t we did not play anywhere near the type of football that we know we’re capable of playing all the injuries up front how tough is that going to be moving forward yeah I mean we’ll see how this whole thing shakes out see um the extent of everything, but I mean, we’ve got to find ways to um you know, still get the job done. I think that’s why you’ve got the depth. We’ve been fortunate. We’ve had a lot of guys that have played a lot of ball and um well, you know, see how this thing goes from here, but um yeah, I mean, doesn’t stop for for injuries. You know, we got to keep going. Andy, how hopeful are you for Jaylen Co? seemed like he had some good rhythm today with his routes and some good timing with you. Just talk about him being back at full speed at this point. Yeah, I’m happy for him. He’s obviously worked hard to get back and he’s feeling more comfortable out there. Uh for him, he’s a guy that tries to do everything the right way and be in the right spot. So, I’m happy for him. I’m sure his role is just going to keep increasing. Andy Derek Brown called this a humbling loss. A lot was made before the game that this would be kind of a measuring stick. How did you think you guys measured up to one of the NFL’s best? Well, I mean, we obviously didn’t play anywhere near the type of football that we know that we can play. So, um I mean, yeah, you can say is a measuring stick, but I think at the end of the day, we we didn’t even give ourselves a chance. And that, you know, for me, I didn’t I didn’t give this team a chance. So, um you know, it wasn’t our dayto-day. They obviously played really good on on on on their side of the ball. And um for us, we got to just move forward. It’s on to the next. I mean, that’s that’s how this thing goes. Uh they all count one and so we got to be better next week. Does that make a loss like this worse because you guys are on a threeame win streak and you have been playing decent football? No, it doesn’t make it worse. Obviously, we’ve been in a a good spot the last several weeks and uh we’ve had some momentum, but you know, it’s it counts one. Back to it this week. I’m sorry. the broadcast they made a big deal that saying Shaq Thompson read that tunnel screen or whatever and was pointing everybody that way. I don’t know if you would agree with that or just in general can you describe that play what happened or what wish you Yeah. Uh I mean they they made a good play obviously um you know for the Dean to get up and and make that play. I tried to get the ball out as quick as I could and hey made a good play. So Scott’s point was Did you hear Shaq like calling it out before the snap at all? Uh I mean I I think Shaq was communicating with him. So um yeah, I don’t necessarily know if he knew exactly our call and all that kind of stuff, but um so could you what could you have killed it or did you not think it was necessary? No, that’s it’s again it’s the it’s the right call in the situation that made a good play. Maybe your interactions like with Bryce throughout the game on the sideline between series. Yeah, Bryce and I are in constant communication um just throughout the game just seeing what he’s seeing and uh and all that kind of stuff. So, it’s uh it’s obviously good to have um you know him in my corner. Andy, you know what Brady Christensen’s been through kind of the last couple of years being shuffled in and out of the lineup. Dave said that he has an Achilles injury. when a guy like that goes down who was really thriving after, you know, having to be a backup for a while, what goes through your mind as a teammate and how do you kind of create a support system around him following something major? Yeah, I mean this this league’s tough, you know, injuries are almost 100%. it’s going to happen. and for him who has been so versatile and meant so much to this team for a long time, ever since he got here to be able to kind of just plug and play wherever we need him and the work that he’s done to be able to get to that point um after missing a season a couple years ago and and everything and then to have this. I mean, it’s it’s tough, but I know if anybody can handle it, it’s him. you know, he’s got the right support system and u you know, I’m included in that. He’s a guy that I’m going to be checking on and making sure that uh if he ever needs anything because I mean it’s it is tough. I mean, that’s the nature of this business, unfortunately. Andy, you seem to be taking this one particularly hard. Why is that? Because I didn’t play like I was capable of playing. You know, I felt like I didn’t give us a chance. And um yeah, it’s it’s tough. So I I know what I’ve been able to do. I know what I can do. And so it’s not played to the standard that you expect. I mean, that’s why it’s tough. Is it tough for you, Andy, being at this stage in your career, understand you only get so many of these opportunities to go out there and start? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, every time I’m out there, I want to play good ball. And um you never know how many more you’re going to get. And you know, I was looking forward to being out there today. And um yeah, just it’s it’s tough from that standpoint, too, because you never know when when the next one’s going to come. You feel like there was some rust iname. No, I thought we were getting in and out of the huddle. Great. I felt like um from the tempo of everything, I felt like we were we were doing a good job. We just uh you know, like I said, we got hurt with some turnovers. As a veteran, how do you bounce back if your number is called again? Yeah, I I’ve been in this league a long time. You know, I’ve um I’ve experienced all the highs and lows of this league. And so for me, it’s on to the next. You know, I have my process and uh I know exactly what it takes to be successful. And so um just got to keep pushing for that. Thanks, guys. [Music] [Music] I got

  1. Old age showed its face on you today Andy. Time to retire brother. The game looked faster than you. Faster to the point you couldn't keep up. Mobility in the pocket was horrible. No situation awareness. Defense isnt excused here though. We probably still take an L with Cook getting 200+ yards. Run defense was a joke today.

    Gotta figure it out!

  2. Look put your self in Andy's shoes he is the backup QB and he got put into a game against the Buffalo Bills he tried and he can do better but just give him a chance until Bryce Young comes back

  3. Why dont you move in the pocket? I literally cant understand how you turn into a statue. Cmon i just known you would pull us threw And caneles made sure to join you with play calls and the fact dowdle the hottest player on the team doesn't start or get a chance to impact the game first is crazy.
We all love chubba but we got common since too
    Crazy work yall
Buffalo should have lost this one

  4. Yea it was all on you Andy, if the offense could have stayed on the field and scored our defense could have been better at run stopping. A defense not going to last long if the offense going 3 and out. Plus Rico didn’t even play that much Chuba is not as powerful runner than Rico

  5. We would’ve won with Bryce as we would’ve gotten points when Rico hit that big run and also he wouldn’t have took that dumb ass sack to end the half. This dude is a statue at this point and I don’t blame the D for today. Anytime a QB plays like today you will get blown out. Call the Giants and get Wilson or Winston and we will send them Chuba as they lost Skattebo for the year yesterday.

  6. All this measuring stick talk is BS. Buffalo is no wear near elite. Carolina has a way better roster outside of the QB position. Atlanta made it look easy against this team and if we had BY we would’ve won as Rico was running early and the D didn’t fall apart until Andy kept sabotaging the game. Any team would’ve gotten blown out today with that type of QB play. Dan don’t let this guy ruin our season. Call the Giants today and get one of those QBs so we can let BY heal. We got the receivers and the backs to win. Trade the draft pick we got for Adam along with Chuba and get that QB.

  7. He doesn’t give shit he’s collecting a vet check. He jogged off the field laughing after fumbling the ball trying to out scramble dudes 15 years younger than him! SMH

  8. Idc what people say, if you’re a professional athlete, there’s no excuse to be that slow on your feet. Look at Aaron Roger’s. He’s still playing at a high level and pretty mobile. Russell Wilson is the same age as Dalton. It just shows how unprepared he is.

  9. You don't need to quarterback anymore of our games you were a good quarterback at one time .You need to retire or just stay out of the game let Hooker quarterback until Bryce is cleared to play .it wasn't all your fault bad play calling and Tepper sticking his nose into the game is a main reason why we got that beat down yesterday .That wasn't a game that was a mugging .
