Bengals Defense Is Historically Bad, Could Lead To Destruction Of Team?! | Pat McAfee Show

Bengals Bears. Now, this one was absolute insanity. Let’s head right to an onside kick here. 4135. The Bengals had just scored to make this a one-sore game. Need an onside kick. McFerson goes to bend one back. It’s not going to go 10 yards. Ah, it doesn’t matter. Touches the foot of a Bears player. Bengals recover. Joey Flack has a chance to bring him back because this guy gave a toe tap to the ball. Bengals rock. Joey Flax’s got it. Now hold on. Everybody understands what’s about to take place. Joey Flack walks him down the field. Maybe too fast. Maybe too fast. Delivers an absolute seed to Andre Yosi Vos. Incredibly cool tatted man. T Higgins Head massive game. Jamar massive. Chase Brown. Massive. Yosh massive game. No punts. This team unstoppable. Nope. I don’t think so. You can’t give Caleb Williams 50 seconds in one timeout. Caleb marches down the field. Third and 10. We pick up on his own 28. Scrambling, doing some Caleb This man walked in to the NFL with the ability to electrify. People were calling maybe the next Mahomes. Had we seen it yet? No. Harry picks up a huge first down. Continues to drive. Now on zone 42. First and 10. 25 seconds left. No timeouts. We just spent it. What’s he going to do with it? Oh, how about the first tight end drafted? Coen Laughlin over the middle. One tackler. Two tackler. No tacklers. on. Cost Lovelin scores a gamewinning touchdown after nobody decides to cover him or tackle him in the most important part of the game, the final minute of the fourth quarter and the Chicago Bears steal a dub in Cincinnati away from Joey Flack and the Bengals. What a drive by Caleb Williams. Now, a lot of people are going to say that Bengals defense is ass. Oh man, certainly a lot of a lot of guys on that defense saying please for the love of God, can you get me out of here? Yeah, there are four guys in the last 6 months who trade me. Trade me. Okay. Not happening a lot. Normally it’s like agents and teams behind the scenes having conversations. Now it’s being made public. Boom. Get me the hell out of town. Boom. Get me the hell out of town. Boom. I’m not signing this contract. That’s kind of how it’s been for the Bengals on defensive side, let alone with Trey Hendrickson whenever this whole thing started. uh draft uh Super Bowl radio row. I mean, here uh in the history of the NFL, allowing 160 on the ground and 260 through the sky. Yeah, one of those or the other is going to be a glaring weakness. People are going to attack it. Well, the Bengals defense says, “Actually, we won’t do both. Let’s go ahead and let them do both. You Hey, you have it your way around here. You can have it your way. You want to go on the ground, be best in the league.” You got it. You want to go through the sky, be the best in the league. You got it. And it’s almost as if this was predictable. Was this predictable? I mean, huh? I don’t know. Interesting. Anyways, the whole conversation in the offseason was you pay two number ones, which they are. Yes. Very good. If T Higgins would have went to another team to be their number one, he would be Yep. by far the number one. And Jamar, same exact unbelievable. Pay Joey Burrow. Now he’s hurt. Got Joe Flacco. Good news. He’d come here kind of do the same thing. He’s absolutely crushing it. Pay him. Okay. Can you win like that? Everybody was saying going into the year, everybody was saying your defense wasn’t good. What what you do on that side? He said, “We got a new DC.” Has a guy really ever done, “We got a new DC.” See how good Notre Dame’s defense was last year? Cincinnati. Has he ever we got a new DC? Don’t worry about it. And they’ve just been ass. And everybody that saw the way they built their team going into the season says, “Yeah, it’s almost as if every football person told you that’s not how you can actually win football games in football, especially in 2025 when the Eagles just proved that what you need to do is run the ball, stop, and run.” And the Bengals said we’ll be able to throw it though. And uh we might not be able to stop the run or the pass, which is what stats are saying. But that defensive side was glaring weakness going into season. And now it’s turning into kind of biting him in the ass. And on that note, Caleb Williams. Okay. Yeah. Can’t leave Caleb that much time. No. Can’t leave Caleb that much time cuz he has the number uh the first uh tight end drafted right there down the middle. Good for Coulson Lovely. Oh yeah. Big day. Big day for Coulson Love. Especially videos coming out of training camp. Mhm. You know where he’s singing them boys going crazy then in the locker room as soon as he gets a game ball. I don’t know if you saw the defense everybody went crazy for him. It’s like wow they love this guy in there. It is very cool. That’s a good culture building win. That Bears Bengals finish. We need to talk about it. Yeah. Okay. All time. Alltimer. Yeah. And what could come from this is a massive kaboom. Like a massive Cincinnati kaboom. Mhm. I mean I mean with the how good the offense is, with how great the offense is, with how much money they’ve invested in their greatness. That’s an insane catch right there. Okay, that is an absolute This guy had two of them. This guy is insane out there. He’s considered 1A or whatever because Jamar Chase is obviously on that team as well. If T. Higgins would have left the Cincinnati Bengals and got the deal that he got currently with the Bengals at some other team, he’d be top five. They’d say this guy’s top five wide receiver. But it’s hard to put the Bengals two top wide receivers in top five conversations. Jamar Chase on the other side. That guy actual top five conversation all the time. T could be in the same exact situation. But this is how they paid him. Chase Brown running back. He’s not happy. No. Joey Flack can’t really speak on it because he’s brand new to the team, but I’m sure he’s like, “You guys, I just had 400 some yards. Man, I’m throwing the ball all over the yard. Just let a a comeback with less than two minutes in the fourth quarter. We got an onside kick on the team. We go down. We win this game.” Improbable happens when Joe Flacco is at quarterback. Onside kick gets recovered. Yeah, right. Never happens nowadays. Hits guy’s foot. Cincinnati Bengals got it. Joe Flack 143. Let me go score a touchdown. This was supposed to be pivotal day. Monumental day for this Bengals team. Even without Joe Burrow, we can go ahead and win. Exhilarating. Exciting. The jungle’s going crazy. We did it. The ruler of the jungle, whoever it was, says, “Ah, I beat the Bears.” Caleb Williams. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. USC. Caleb. Oklahoma. Caleb scrambling, dancing. First down. Chicago Bears. Time out. Time out. Time out. Time out. 25 seconds left. Did it leave too much time for Caleb Williams. See, only need a field goal, as you can recall. No timeouts. She throw over the middle of the field. We’re going to have to get down and spike it. Coulson Lovelin says, “Don’t you worry about spiking it on the field. I’mma spike this in the end zone. Touchdown. Bengals tackled nobody. Immediately after the game, everybody on the Cincinnati Bengals offensive side said, “Hey, these guys suck.” Talk about the defense. And everybody on defense said, “Get me out of here.” So, right now, the Cincinnati Bengals go come from a less than a minute win, comeback win, improbable onside kick and everything could unite the entire fan base and building and locker room, you name it. Exhilarating win. You’re talking about climax of all climaxes. Weren’t supposed to win that game. Instead, lose. This place sucks. That defense is disgusting. Yeah. And on defense, we know. Get me out of here. This could have been a pivotal day in the future of the Cincinnati Bengals. And all they need to do is just tackle Coulson Love one time. And I’m glad you said pivotal day because I I went back to see it. This So, this was week nine. Week eight last year was when the Bears were at Washington. They had the incredible comeback. Commanders throw the Hail Mary, they they go to the playoffs, they do all the incredible things, and then the Bears lose every single game the rest of the season except for one. So, I was thinking, could this be a similar situation this year where this propels the Bears to, you know, a great rest of the season and the Bengals, you know, just go into the tank because it was not just this week. Remember last week? Last week they were up whatever 16, 17 on the Jets and the Jets came back and did basically the same thing. Like, I couldn’t imagine what that locker room is like.

  1. who would want anybody on this defense? battle and stone wouldnt make any other team guaranteed. cam taylor britt isnt a starter. we got 2 starting caliber defensive linemen, and one of them is hurt and going to want a ton of money. im giving hill credit for being starting caliber he hasnt looked it this year.

  2. how are people only talking about how bad the bengals defense is and not about how equally awful the bears defense was. they had the bigger collapse at the end of the game to make it close

  3. After watching yesterday’s bengals game! Only thing Zac Taylor can win! Is beating his wife to climax! Lmfao!! She’s the only one in that family with any defense! 😂

  4. The problem isn't the contracts, plenty of other teams can pay their offense and still have a COMPETENT defense. The problem is whatever clown show they have for a scouting team where every single defensive draft pick is seemingly dogshit. They just need a COMPETENT defense, they don't need the greatest defense to touch a football field when their offense is capable of producing the numbers, that they are producing. Do you know how bad you need to be to lose when your offense drops 38 or more in… BACK TO BACK GAMES??? A first in NFL history? This is not a contract problem, they are just god awful.

  5. If I were Joe Burrow I would retire and sit out a season to heal up and get away from the Bengals owner and then just come out of retirement the following year and play for someone else. Seems to me I remember someone else doing this. I think his name was Palmer or something like that. Being a Bengals fan is always going to suck as long as the Brown family owns it. Don't ask me how I know that.

  6. Early 1980s Green Bay Packers vibes. We had Lynn Dickey who could deliver the rock to James Lofton, John Jefferson, and Paul Coffman. Routinely had a top 5 offense in the league……………….but the defense was drop dead last and the Packers were perpetually stuck at 8-8.

  7. The problem isnt paying too much to chase and tee; its the inability to draft especially on defensive side of the ball. 2020 only higans and joe burrow are good. 2021 Ja maar and mcpherson 2022 cam has looked okay and dax hill has had amazing plays but isnt a great corner rest busts.
I dont care who the team is eventually you have to pay players and the people you dont pay you need to be able to draft their replacement. From 2020-2025 we have drafted 19 defenders in top 5 rounds out of the 33 picks we have had. While some started and have been okay I dont think any of them have played past the level of where they were drafted.

  8. Novel incoming.
Everyone is such a casual when it comes to the bengals. Bengals defense last year was hurt, both Dax hill and dj turner had season ending injuries early and Trey was all alone. Pratt, Hubbard, and wilson were all so slow/bad at tackling and they all got replaced with rookies that are deadass miles better so everyone was coming back healthy AND Trey got some help when they drafted Shamar so of course actual bengals fans were excited and had high hopes but the biggest damn issue was that none of these guys were developing to a higher level. It feels like they all hit their ceilings as rookies so bengals fired Lou and brought in someone that they thought could develope players but golden sucks at that too (really just the bengals front office being so cheap that it lead to the most incompetent defense ever i.e. basically no scouting department and refusing to sign stars until it’s too late and have to pay 50% more or let walk)

  9. The fact that some of the most rare occurrences in a football game, 99 yard kick return, onside kick recovery, blocked field goal happened, 2 touchdowns being scored in 45 seconds, is just absolutely mind boggling that they couldn't make one tackle to give them a chance to win this game
