[Krivitsky] Derrick White on handling his cold shooting:

"I think for the most part, I've been good with my energy, even though I'm not shooting well. I thought I was shitty today honestly. I think I'm a big reason why they got back in that game."

  1. It’s not just his shooting though. It’s his ball handling, passing, defense. Dude is still in vacation mode.

  2. He wasn’t great the year before we traded for him. He wasn’t great his first year.

His last 3 seasons have been a career peak for him surrounded by stars and lead by a top 5 player.  As the team’s 4th option he flourished. So much so that he was a borderline allstar and his trade value likely exceeded his actual talent.

Now as the 2nd option he’s been terrible and may be getting exposed as someone who will always only ever be a solid starter.  He’s 31.  His trade value has dipped so far this season. I still think they have to consider moving him if a team like Houston is willing to give up a quality prospect like reed sheppard as a centerpiece in a package.

There’s a way to trade White and Simons and get Sheppard, Fred VanVleet and Jabari Smith Jr and shed 10 mil in salary this season doing it.

  3. Almost everyone is being asked to do something new this year. Pritchard is starting for the first time, White is the number 2 option, Simmons coming off bench. Gonna take a while for them to feel comfortable in their new roles.

  4. That’s the Tatum effect honestly. A lot of people especially non Celtics fans don’t get how much open looks, White, PP and Brown got because all eyes were on Tatum a lot. If Tatum drove to the basket you were sure somebody was gonna get open.

  5. That was an awkward ass interview. I feel so bad for the dude. Jb is our #1 right now, but I feel like his role hasn’t changed a lot, he’s still more of a play finisher than a facilitator; it’s D white who is taking on more of the JT role (of facilitating and trying to bend the defense to generate advantages, vs JB bending the defense and then finishing that play—similar to what he’s done in previous years).

And, Derrick has so many skills, but he isn’t someone who is going to cook someone off the dribble and get the defense to react. So he can’t get any space to get clean shots off. Next to him, PP is also struggling too, which has a compounding effect on both of them. So I think in his head Derrick must be saying, “I have to shoot this 3, even if it’s contested, because it may be the only decent look we get.”

I hope Derrick comes out of this proud of the way he handled the adversity. I’m happy to have him on our team, and any growth he & this team show along the way should be the goal. If the org wanted to make this a competent roster that wasn’t struggling to score and defend they would have. They chose not to do that which means our 4th option is now having to do these god awful press conferences to explain away why he as a role player isn’t suddenly an A++ tier PG.

  6. he will find his way! we love you DWhite. it’s a different world without Tatum.

  7. I bet Simons would be playing a lot better with Tatum as well. Pritchard also should still be the 6th man. Hauser I have no excuse for you he either hits 5 3s or 0.bso streaky most of his misses have been all wide open. He’s out there doing cardio.
