The 2023-24 season will always haunt me because of how well the team played all year just to shit the bed in the last couple games and a 4 game sweep without Zion. 49-33 record 6th best net rating that year, def was looking forward to watching this team in the upcoming seasons. Two years laters it looks like they are a decade away from making the playoffs and Zion, it’s over brudda. Also Joe Dumars and Willie Green destroying the team is not helping. They dismantled a team which looked like had a bright future in just two years. It’s irremediable.

  1. Im not really a Pelicans fan but what Im pissed about is that the scouting team saw the 2026 draft class and went, “I want Derik Queen”

  2. Like a family photo on Facebook where everyone is smiling for the Holidays but there is complete dysfunction and meltdown behind the scenes

  3. They had a 49-33 record and yet were the only team in the league to not win a game where they were trailing going into the 4th quarter. Something even the 14 win Pistons did. Even the Pelicans “highs” are underwhelming. 😔

  4. I’ve been a Pelicans fan for as long as I can remember, and I remember the Hornets days, and the first half of that season was easily the best I’ve ever felt about this team. I remember that game Zion had against the Twolves where he basically single handedly carried us to win in the fourth, I remember when Zion hit that windmill dunk at the end of a game against the Suns and how that bitch ass franchise whined and complained about it and how good it felt. Hell I remember people honestly questioning if we were gonna win the AD trade.

It all went away. Every last bit of promise that team had is gone. My favorite player we’ve had Brandon Ingram is gone. It just feels empty now, and frankly that is the worst feeling in sports. I just hope that hitting rock bottom means that it can only get better from here.

  5. Yeah – WG never seemed to like JV and would take him out early (I thought) to play Nance in a small-ball lineup that worked in short spurts but I thought mostly couldn’t defend. Not getting a deal done with BI – that hurt.

That was a team I thought was fun to watch and could beat anyone in the league on a given night. but injuries…….. Sigh.

Griffin kept the team on an unremarkable but solid footing. I agree with your comment that it is being destroyed now. If a solid GM came in tomorrow the damage could be turned around in about three years. If Dumars is allowed free reign, then by this time next year they could be 6-7 years away from salvation.

  6. That year was special… 💔 I used to be so excited watching them. Zion dunking used to get the stadium hype. Trey Murphy 30 ft 3. Herb Jones corner 3. It was so fun that year man. The Blender was so electric

  7. That starting five was good but they really just played the opponent’s starters to a draw. We really won our games that year with our backups: Jose, Trey, Nance, Naji, and Dyson were schooling other teams’ benches
