  3. As expected baseball is so big in Japan and Hockey in Russia everything else basketball which also makes sense.

  4. Map is wrong. Baseball is the national sport of Taiwan, and still more popular than basketball there.

  6. Russia produces tons of hockey players, all-time great ones too. Hockey being #1 there makes sense

    China has Yao Ming and some other NBA players, NBA being #1 there makes sense

    Japan and MLB is pretty self-explanatory.

    The Middle East and South Asia has no NHL, MLB or NBA talent. It’s interesting that NBA is #1 there.

  9. With the Ohtani effect, I have a feeling MLB will be more popular in Korea and Taiwan. This seems like it’s in 2022 so goes to show how crazy Ohtani is just flipping whole nations. No doubt for China and the Philippines with NBA though.

  12. Just gonna throw this out there; but the “National” in National Hockey League is originally in reference to Canada. And they still have a “head office” in Canada.

One of these day the Chinese Communist Party is going to realize that chasing basketball glory is a fools errand and diving is a bore and it will suddenly build baseball camps for 3 year olds and 15 years later the Dodgers will be handing out $100 million bills to kids throwing knuckle screwballs

  20. It’s a shame all that corruption ruined baseball in the Philippines, could have been another hotbed.
