DETROIT RED WINGS PULL OFF A MIRACLE WIN IN LA: UNEXPECTED SHOOTOUT WIN VS THE KINGS

So, this is a way to begin the show. Yesterday, the Detroit Red Wings had themselves the last game on tap in the National Hockey League. A 7:30 p.m. start Pacific time against the LA Kings at the Staples Center. Excuse me, Crypto.com Arena. That’s what it’s called now, right? But the reason we are talking about this game the morning after is because wowers, what a game that was first and foremost. And secondly, that game ended up going the distance, baby. Red Wings fans were going to bed at 100 a.m. plus after this game had concluded. And if you stayed up that late to finish this one and get the results, then hey, you absolutely experienced a roller coaster of emotions. The Detroit Red Wings are now back up to number one in the Atlantic Division with the 43 shootout win they had over the Kings last night, which is also good enough for tied for second in the NHL. There are a bunch of teams right now that have 16 points in 11 games played. Winnipeg, New Jersey, Utah, the Wings, the ABS, and the Montreal Canadians. Of course, the Atlantic is tied one and one as well. The Red Wings and the Habs have three more points than the Senators. But with this win yesterday, it really puts a bow on what was a vindicating and in a way gruing victory for Red Wings fans who stayed up late to watch this game. Let’s just talk about the tale of the tape first before we dive into why yesterday’s game was so crazy. The Red Wings won 4-3 in a shootout. Shots on goal were 38-27 for LA. They pummeled Red Wings goalender Cam Talbot with shots and he had a 921 save percentage in this contest. Of course, he also had the shootout win. You could also talk about how the Wings were able to battle back and get themselves in a spot where they actually were on top. First goal of the game was scored by Alex Leferier. A short-handed mark in the second period. You never want to see these short-handed goals go against your favorite teams. But the LA Kings took advantage of a bobbling puck by Moider at the blue line. And it’s Leferier who pounces on it. He comes in on Talbot and backhands it right through the Red Wings goalender. one- nothing at the halfway mark in the second period for the LA Kings. Give it just a minute though and that’s where Alex De Branket on the same power play is able to get the Wings back up on the board and tying this hockey game 1. Assists go out to Lucas Raymond and Moider. It’s a beautiful one-time shot by De Brinket on the left side there. It is a really nice scoring opportunity. You want to see Debrinket pot those and that’s exactly what he did. Give it a few minutes and the Red Wings power play gets to work again. Marco Casper is the victor this time who ends up deflecting a long axle Sandine Pelica wrist shot towards the goal. second unit going out there and getting some offense and Marco Casper gets his second of the season to put the Red Wings on top two to one. In the third period, we also saw Casper get another. This time tipping in Mason Appleton’s centering feed. This one wasn’t a long drive tip in front, but it was more of a really nice middle centering play from Appleton right in front to Casper who was driving the net. De Brank got the secondary assist there. So that’s his ninth assist of the season. Alex de Brinket has gone out there with 12 points in 11 games played. He is over a point per game with this performance tonight. But then the LA Kings started to come back and you started to see the best of this team really put itself on display. And when I say the best of the LA Kings, I kind of mean the best. Cory Perry scores two goals in the span of about 40 seconds to tie the game up in the final few minutes of the third period. He ends up potting in the garbage after the puck gets thrown on goal. Brings the game within one. That’s a dirty, grimy, garbage goal for Cory Perry. But those are the ones that he loves to score nowadays. I say dirty. It wasn’t really dirty. It was a clean goal, but obviously he’s in the dirty areas to put the puck in the back of the net there. And then just 40 seconds later, you have a shot by Quinton Biffield right in the middle of the hash marks that gets tipped by Talbot in front by that same Cory Perry. Two goals in the span of 40 seconds for the LA Kings. And Wings fans are all of a sudden frustrated. Hey, wait a minute. We had a three to one lead. We watched this team crumble it away at the hands of one guy and now we’re going to overtime and then disaster strikes in OT2 because you have Kevin Fiala who ends up scoring. He is right up there in Cam Talbot’s grill just trying to bat away at that puck. And the goal is scored. The goal horn goes off. You have a whole bunch of fans that are cheering and excited. But wait a minute, the league insinuates a review and they deem that Kevin Fiala, who was in the crease the entire time, is not actually scoring that goal. He had goalie interference written all over him. That was also on the power play, too. So, a lot of folks were getting really pissed off at the referees for Simone Edinson slashing on Biffield in that extra overtime. Oh, RIP to the Red Wings penalty kill record this season. And then it was like, oh, wait a minute. Actually, not RIP because it didn’t count. The goal wasn’t a goal. And inevitably, the Red Wings did kill off this power play in overtime. And you have Cam Talbot stealing the show in the shootout. The Red Wings end up taking it off of Lucas Raymond. He gets the game-winning goal in the shootout. Everybody else is saved up. Kempe, Perry, and Kevin Fiala all get stoned by Cam Talbot over there. And what was ultimately a game that the Red Wings probably should have won based off the tides that turned in this hockey game ultimately became a total nightmare for fans staying up late and watching this one as the team went the distance and almost totally blew it if not for a goalender interference call that was mandated by the NHL. But hey, you take the wins as they come, right? The Detroit Red Wings persevered. They fought through the adversity. They were still able to stay strong. I know a lot of Kings fans were complaining about the calls going Detroit’s way as well. Both fan bases complaining about the refs is always a great sign of an even hockey game. But at the end of the day, Detroit Red Wings fans that went to sleep angrily after seeing the FIA overtime winner ultimately didn’t see the full result. So, uh, yeah, I guess that’s a lesson for everybody. Don’t turn your TVs off unless you absolutely know with certainty that everything was finalized. And I was like, you know what, that game, it ended at like 10:30 p.m. my time. I’m not going to go out there and make a video about this game now. Like, what? All the Detroit Red Wings fans that are going to be watching by the time the video is up or going to be awake at 2:00 a.m. Hell no. Let’s just make this the first video of the day tomorrow. Talk about the Wings. They’re number one in the Atlantic. Marco Casper is getting back on board and Lucas Raymond is scoring points as well. So obviously it’s nice to see the Wings cough up a victory without any points from Dylan Larkin. Not that we don’t want to see Larkin scoring any points, but it’s a good thing that they can still win even if he doesn’t. And yes, they did get contributions from De Brinkit, Raymond, and Casper. But hey, 4-3 win in overtime. excuse me, a shootout off of the back of Cam Talbot, who unfortunately led in two Cory Perry goals at the end of regulation. You obviously want to see that, especially if it propels your team to number one in the Atlantic one more time. Now, today, you have yourselves the Detroit Red Wings in action one more time. They’re going to be playing off against the Anaheim Ducks, so they have a chance to extend their lead in this Atlantic division. Montreal doesn’t play today, so there is an opportunity there. But for now, you can let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about Detroit’s big victory over LA in excruciatingly painful fashion, but they got the dub anyway, so that’s all that matters. Thoughts in the comment section below. They help out with the algorithm. Also, likes and dislikes help as well, so I’d appreciate it if you got involved there. I hope you enjoyed this bit of trolls 999 and bye.

  1. I turned it off immediately after the OT goal. Woke up and saw Barstool Detroit made a post about Detroit being 8-3. I laughed and thought they made the post prematurely last night. Then I saw another post. Lol. First time I remember this happening to me lol
