BREAKING: Chicago Cubs DECLINE Shota Imanaga’s Contract Option!
The first piece of breaking off season news has dropped the Chicago Cubs predictably uh declined Shota Imanaga’s three-year option and then Shota declined his one-year player option leaving the only decision now to be made uh for the Cubs. Will they offer Shota that qualifying offer that one-year qualifying offer at around $22 million? Um this was all predicted on our show. Matt just did a spectacular job breaking this down last week. So, no surprises here. Um, you know, wi with the way SHO ended the season, you know, a three-year 57 million dollar commitment. I know it’s a probably a big surprise to people not around the Cubs and around baseball, but um, you know, in Cub circles, this this was expected to happen. Uh, he he ended the season poorly. The Cubs didn’t trust him uh in a game five uh against the Brewers. And you know, I think the relationship between Imanaga and the Cubs is really good. I wouldn’t be surprised if uh Imanaga declined the uh or if the Cubs didn’t offer the the the qualifying offer. But, you know, they negotiated something maybe um you know, a little bit better for both sides. But, you know, the Cubs, I think, feel really good about uh some of their staff. I think they’re going to be really active in the free agent market uh when it comes to pitching and the trade market as everything we talked about. And so that led to this decision being made. Um Matt broke that down, like I said, perfectly. If you haven’t checked that episode, check it out. And we’ll see in the next few days um if if the Cubs offer that qualifying offer to Shota and if he uh if he takes it or not. But as of right now, Shimanaga is a free agent and not a Chicago Cup.

The QO is 22 million now??? Holy smokes
I'm sure that they will use this money as well as they did all of the money they saved from the Bellinger trade last year? Who can forget Cubs legend Cody Poteet.

It’s the Cubs.. who cares?
Gotta sign a guy like Cease
Bro why you got semen dripping from the side of your mouth?
And now Kittredge traded back to Baltimore for cash. Hopefully to sign Cease 👀
Use that $$$ to get Cease!
You have to offer it even though the starting pitchers were run ragged.
Lol…..gosh darn it!
That's okay That's more money in Tommy's pocket
Dylan Cease it's happening
Saving money for ricketts😂
Well why don't teams go to 6 man rotation,or is that 2 much rest for a pitcher
Welcome to LA Shota
Thanks, Sam. I saw this news early this morning but I always want to hear your and Matt's comments about all Cubs news 📰!
Good. He throws way too many homeruns.
Another japanense pitcher going to Dodgers
it's about trust players come free agent but tom ricketts doesn't not trust any players in free agent it's why he never pay top talent players
Don't care….good riddance.
Maybe they sign woodruff. That be wild if woodruff comes to wrigley and shota ends up in Milwaukee 😆
WTF.
I'm conflicted on this one because I love Shota and he was really good at times, though he ended badly. Hard to say if he can get back to form. Wish it were otherwise.
I'll miss the throwing philosopher 😢
LOL great. so in other words, get ready for another season of watching Ben Brown and Jordan Wicks struggling… and they MAY make a move for a very cheap mike-soroka-esque pitcher 😂😂😂
guess its back to 83 wins in 2026.. just in time for the lock out
Surprised they're giving up on him..he was good for a year and a half…
I trust the Ricketts and Jed to spend money as far as I can throw them. We hear they would spend last year and they barely did, they were the team to beat at the trade deadline per all the experts and they barely made a blip. Wake me up when they make a move that won’t haunt them.
Tom and she’d gotta pitch penny’s and nickels any way they can.
