Seahawks add Rashid Shaheed, Jets TRADE Quinnen Williams & Sauce Gardner?! | Richard Sherman REACTS
Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast and it’s the trade deadline. So you know there’s moves happening but there are some huge moves. We’re going to start off with the Seattle Seahawks getting wide receiver Rashid Shahed the speedster that played for the New Orleans Saints. This is a great addition to this receiving core that that has been thriving. I mean, we we always talk about Jackson Smith and Jigba. Uh, young Tory Horton has been having a good season. You all all know Cooper Cup and what he’s done, although he’s on the shelf right now. But this this trade changes the way people are going to defend the Seattle Seahawks or they’re just going to they’re going to deal with deep passes over their heads because you cannot one-on-one. This guy has next level speed and the Saints used it really consistently uh over the last couple years. I I’m sure I I don’t have the exact stats in front of me, but I’m sure he’s amongst the league leaders in in yards per catch and and and yards per route, etc., etc., because most of his routes are coming down the field. Uh he’s a legitimate deep threat in this National Football League. and he gives Sam Darnold in this offense, another weapon. Coming off one of their best games of the season to get another weapon like this that stretches the defense that that makes those safeties take a take another step back. Makes those corners play a little less ambitious. Uh I don’t think teams will play this team in man coverage as they have been. If they do, I would expect Sam Darnold, Jackson Smith, and Jigba and their new receiver Rasheed Shahed to to really have a field day. I think this is going to be a great trade uh for the Seattle Seahawks and and it’s going to work for both sides. It’s going to work for both sides. Uh it gives him a fresh start on a team that’s really competitive. Things aren’t going great right now in New Orleans. It looks like they’re going to be picking early in the draft. U this is a young, fun team that’s excited. Uh congrats to Mike McDonald for and John Snyder for making this trade. This is one of the perfect trades uh of this trade deadline. There are bigger moves. There are, you know, people trading first round picks, etc. We’re going to get to that. But in terms of a of a fit of a perfect fit scenario, this guy fits in with this culture with what this team’s trying to do offensively and he has a obvious role that he fits in this offense. He played with played for Clint Kubak when he was with New Orleans last season. So, there’s familiarity there. Clint Kubak knows how to use this guy and I’m sure that’s why they made the call when when they saw that New Orleans wasn’t going to be competitive this season to get this guy in the fold. Again, you don’t know a lot of these guys. You don’t feel good um you know, people who don’t know this guy are going to going to be really positively surprised at the impact that he can make each and every game uh and each and every week. even when he’s not getting the ball, the pressure that he puts on the defense, the awareness that you have to have of where he is on the field in case they they take a shot with him because if you’re not, by the time you’re aware of him, he’s running past you, the ball’s up, and the way Sam Darnold has been delivering this this season, it’s going to be trouble. So, this is this is one of my favorite trades uh of the of the deadline so far. The other huge notable trades is it looks like the New York Jets are in a full fire sale. Traded away two allp pro players. Um they got some a lot of picks in it. I I I’m I’m not sure I agree with these moves. I mean you usually the the guys that are untouchable are untouchable for a reason and and you don’t trade franchise pillars. Now, Sauce Gardner, I think I understand why they traded him. I’m I’m not a fan of using two first rounders on a corner. And I’m a corner. I’m a former NFL corner. Felt like I played at a high level. There are very few corners that can you can justify trading two first round picks for the Rams. Did it when they got Jaylen Ramsay and then they won a Super Bowl. So, they can feel justified uh with that. the Colts are doing it hoping for the same uh hoping that he takes him to the next level which which he just may but the production from a corner that you expect are interceptions there there are interceptions if if you’re trading for a corner that’s a guy you expect to to pick the ball off at least three to four maybe four to five times a season change a game sauce is a elite corner there’s no question about that but trading two first round picks is really really that’s that’s generous. So I think that was a deal the Jets took because they could not refuse. They could not not take that deal. You offering him that’s a deal they could not walk away from. And I understand that getting two first round picks for a corner. I don’t know many teams that would say no to that because of what you can do. Obviously the Jets are trying to stock up draft picks to potentially get their next franchise quarterback. They haven’t been great about picking franchise quarterbacks. Will it change this year? Who knows? Um, but I I can understand the logic in in trading Sauce Gardner for two first round picks. I can understand I don’t understand the logic from the Colts. I think he will help. I’m I’m excited that they’re giving Lou anarumo um the the the ammo that he needs to to fuel this very talented uh and stingy defense that they have developing out there in Indianapolis. uh he was not allowed he was not given these kind of these kind of big-time playmakers in in Cincinnati and still was able to to to try to battle and try to make competitive teams and um I’m excited about what the coach defense is going to be. I think this is a bit of a overpay but I think that’s the only we reason that sauce was available is because they went over and beyond. They gave him an offer that they could not refuse. Um, I think SS will be great in this system. I think he’ll be great for the Indianapolis Colts. I I think he’s an elite corner and and apparently this is the price you pay for an elite corner. It’s only the second time since 1990 that a player has been traded for two first round picks in season. Sauce has had 15 tackles this year, six PBUs, and no interceptions. Uh hopefully that changes with with his time in Indie. Good luck to Sauce. I’m excited to see how that goes. They also traded receiver Adai Mitchell as part of the deal to the Jets. I knew Adai Mitchell was going to be out of Indie. When he when he when he dropped the ball over the goal line against the Rams, that was that was the bonehead play of the year. Uh he also got a holding call in that game that negated a 50 yard Jonathan Taylor touchdown. You make those kind of mistakes in a season this special. Uh because they could have easily won that game against the Rams. That would have been a big- time quality win. Uh they’d be seven or they’d be eight and one right now. That was something Shane Stiken felt like he couldn’t live with and they made the move that they felt was necessary. Uh the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry called him. Jerry said, “Hey, we’re going to make a big trade. Just wait before the game.” I’m sure he didn’t think that that trade would be the best news they had because they got their butts kicked by the Arizona Cardinals and Jacobe Brassette. But they trade for Quinnon Williams, the allpro player, the allpro defensive tackle um for the from the again New York Jets. They use one of the picks they got in the Micah Parsons trade in a second round pick and send over Mazy Smith. Quinnon Williams is exactly what they need. Uh they got Kenny Clark already. Uh this is this is shaping. It looks like it’s shaping out to be a very formidable defensive line. Uh he has the second most run stuffs this season. He’s done a great job against the run. He’s a ferocious pass rusher. uh there’s a reason he’s been allp pro even on bad defenses uh bad teams with the Jets because I think the Jets have had some good defenses uh but he’s been a standout player for them for a long time but there’s been some discontent uh he’s been disgruntled um you heard about it when they got rid of Aaron Rogers and and how that happened. Uh, we’ll see how this one plays out, but you can you can tell there’s some frustration between some of these players, some of the big- time pillar players in management, whether it’s whether it’s the head coach or the front office. Um, and it’s even more clear today. Uh, you’re you’re not expecting a win anytime in the near future. Uh, so you’re you’re you’re stocking up picks. Maybe you can go maybe you believe a quarterback worth a lot of movement. uh is going to be available in this draft, a quarterback of the future, but that hasn’t been the case for a lot of these quarterbacks the Jets have have have picked up and and it’s it’s not by almost any fault of the players because it doesn’t seem like the Jets are equipped to develop young quarterbacks. And that’s just what the history says. I’m not trying to be biased in any way, but that’s what the history has said. Aaron Glenn is going to have his um work cut out for him going forward. Uh I look forward to to seeing how this season I mean obviously this season has has has already been um what it’s going to be. Uh they got a win this season which was surprising the way they started. Um but it looks like they they are they’re mailing it in and giving up on this season. Um and likely they’re going to have a high draft pick coming up and they’ll have other draft picks. Um, and we’ll see what they do with them and if they can build a competitive roster and give Aaron Glenn uh more opportunities to to to coach these young men and establish culture or what direction they go after this season. But these are some interesting moves. Not many times do you do you see multiple franchise players from the same franchise being moved on the trade deadline, but these are these are these are things they couldn’t pass up. But if I’m the Jets front office and I got all these picks in the next couple years, let’s start just building a good team. You’re going to be young now. You’ll likely get your quarterback. I think you got a a one good tackle. Could you get another? Um I think you got to go try to get a tackle. That’s that’s where you want to start. Um, you’ve you’ve drafted pass rushers in in the past and and it hasn’t worked out great for him. You drafted an elite corner. You paid him all that good stuff. You just traded him away. So now you’re going to need another corner. Quarterback, tackle, corner. You got a receiver. You got a receiver I think you feel great about. Um, you can always use more. Add an eye. Mitchell should be fine. Um, for now, offensive line. Offensive line. If they’re a quality offensive line there, that’s where you go. Protect this young quarterback for the foreseeable future. If you’re going to draft a a quarterback with your first pick and you feel great about him and he’s the future of your franchise, put some people in front of him that can block for him. You’re probably going to need some dackles now, but that’s later on. quarterback, protectors, corner. Those are your first things, three things you need to do. Some of them you can draft, some of you can pick up in free agency. We’ll see what you do. Good luck, Jets. And to Dallas fans, they’re saying, “Hey, we traded Micah and we got Kenny Clark and we got Quinn and Williams and we got another pick.” That’s that’s cool. That’s great. And and it may work out fantastic. This is these are these are built building blocks for a franchise. But right now, this has been a disaster of a season for the for the Dallas Cowboys. So hopefully these things in the future and they’re building winning habits and they’re getting guys in the building that can help estab reestablish culture um for what they want to have. I think Shotti I mean Jerry and Shotty that’s what they’re trying to do. You want to build a great defense, you get great players and these are these are great players. These are going to guys that can impact winning week in and week out, but you still got to get guys back there covering in the back end. They got to tighten up some of these coverage issues that they’re having. Um they’re playing man coverage and guys are losing one-on- ones, but we’ll see. We’ll see. The Dallas Cowboys will be a talking point. No question about it. The San Francisco 49ers made their move a little earlier. They got Keon White. They signed Clean Frell. Um those are good good moves. you know, I thought they would would go again. I thought they would get another pass rusher. I I’m sure the prices just were too high. Obviously, Trey Hendrickson did not move at all. Um, so I I’m sure the price was just just above what they were willing to pay for a rental. Uh which is which is odd about why the Philadelphia Eagles traded for Jaylen Phillips who’s going to be a good pass rusher and fitness scheme and everybody’s like the rich getting richer but a third rounder for a guy that’s on his contract year seems to be a steep price but again if you win a Super Bowl then the price is worth it every single time. Um they needed more pass rush help. They’ve been beaten up. They they needed some more depth and they got that. I think that’s a good move and you got to trust Howie Roseman at this point. You got to trust him. He’s got a he’s got a a great resume and and a great track record. So, I’m not going to be the one to criticize him. Um, but I just thought that was a a a decent a decent compensation. And I I think the the Miami Dolphins, who are in a fire cell right now, are happy with it. I thought more players would be gone out of Miami. I thought they would deal more players. I thought it was 25 players in season. It’s the most players traded in season, tied for the most players traded in season the past 25 years. Uh the most first rounders dealt in season in the past 25 season, three of them. 2019 was the same. Uh but it’s a crazy trade deadline. I thought more teams would make moves, but we’ll see. You can’t make any others. So, I’m sure you’ll after this you’ll hear about guys asking for their release, etc. from some of these teams that aren’t competitive right now, especially veteran players hoping to get picked up by a contender. That’ll be the next step. No question about it. Now, for our Hard Rock TNF prediction, all odds and lines come from our partners at Hard Rock Bet. We’ve got the Raiders at the Broncos on Thursday Night Football. Hard Rock Bet has the Broncos as nine-point favorites in this game. I think that’s legitimate. the the Raiders has struggled struggled mightily this year. Unfortunately, my guy Gino Smith has struggled with turnovers and interceptions. Uh he found his rhythm last week. He threw for four touchdowns last week because Brock Bowers is back. He’s one of their big weapons. They traded Jacobe Meyers. Um a guy who was unhappy. They traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a fourth and sixth round pick. So there’s the cover’s kind of bare. Uh, and I think going against this Broncos defense with Riley Moss and Kaleno Hufanga and and Bonito and Cooper and Zack Allen, it’s a tough defense to to not have a ton of weapons against. And I think with that kind of pass rush, this is going to be a long day for the the Raiders. They’re one and eight. Unfortunately, I feel go bad for my guy Pete, but feel like the Broncos are going to be able to cover, but who knows? Appreciate you guys joining me here on the Richard Sherman podcast. I know you could be anywhere in the world, but you’re here with me, and I surely do appreciate it. Hit that sub button if you’re new.

I would have hoped that Seahawks trade for a new RG to replace Bradford. I am actually surprised that Riq Woolen stayed with the team, with Jobe proving Himself while playing opposite of Witherspoon, I would have thought that Woolen was expendable as a trade piece for a RG.
The 49ers did nothing.
Seattle and the rams might beat them now.
Rams still better💙💛
This addition for the seahawks will without a doubt open up the running game
Blessings, love one.🙏🫶🏼👑❤️
Sherman the Hawks about to start some trouble 😁😁👏
It’s gonna be sad to see Seattle or Rams in the Super Bowl in 49ers stadium
I agree with you on the 2 first for a corner. League rules are a part of it. While corners are as important as any position maybe 1st or 2nd most on the field League rules mitigate the effectiveness . Using draft picks for that position makes more sense to me.
Seahawks #1 in NFC west I'd say 12-5 this season
Would u come out of retirement if Seahawks asked for a playoff run
Sherm, bro you just said you felt like you played at a high level. That’s a huge understatement of how good you were. You’re one of the best all time.
the Jets will be drafting the QB that will succeed Sam Darnold in Seattle and keep the streak alive of failed Jets QBs that become pro-bowlers in Seattle
Awesome to see Shaheed on the Seahawks! But the best news is Woolen is staying!
Colts v/s Seahawks in the Superbowl….who made the best acquisition? 🤔
Seahawks win their 2nd Superbowl!
Excited about the Shaheed acquisition! Hoping it opens up things a bit more for the run game.
I hate to see the Jets get to ruin two more promising rookies
Shaheed Speed..I like it Sherm.
Sherm, how many 1st rounds pick would have commanded at today’s deadline given your the same age as Sauce?
Legion of BOOM! Thanks for the analysis!
When i look back to when Sidney Rice was added to the Seahawks, the Hawks had 5 great receivers! And the Legion of Boom on the other side of the ball the Seahawks were similar
Played at a high level? You were the High LEVEL!! I remembered when you were drafted in the 5th round? and was a former wide receiver. My goodness …. What a fuxking career!!!!
For the organization not on the field you have wisdom and knowledge…ON the field you have a rebirth..two words to describe that would be "Emerald Lotus"
Sherm saying he felt like he played at a high level is crazy 😭😭 . Made 3 straight all pro teams as a corner and soon to be HOFer . I don’t think there’s any corner in the league right now that’s made 3 straight 1st team all pros
Dimes to dollars he’s glad to be outa there.
What did we give up for Shaheed?
RASHIDDDDD
Dont sell yourself short brother
Dallas still has no pass rush 😂😂😂😂
Perfect timing. It's about now teams would have started blanketing Jax. Got an answer for that!!!!
from the legion of BOOM to the legion of ZOOM
rasheed already knows the play book as well, so he’ll be seeing the field this sunday
This reminds me of when we signed Percy harvin.! Go 12s!
I’m not sure if you’ve watched many games, Richard. But the jets have a competent O-line and have used their last 2 first round picks on them. Heavily invested in the line is an understatement.
Big fan of the show, nonetheless
Sherm >>>> Sauce.
Jets screwing the Pat one way or another. Gardener must be happy to be going from worst to first though.
Shaheed was mandatory. We were too JSN reliant and if something happened to him for a few games, we're done. Now we can withstand an injury!! Hawks to the NFCCG! Hawks are SB caliber now. 10 hours ago we weren't.
Great trade!!
As a Niner fan I hate the Shaheed trade. Too perfect for an already great offense.
to all the seahawks fans that think the offense was fine and we should of got a defensive player, mid season is when the tape gets found out you have to evolve all season in this league or else defensive adjustments will catch you eventually it happens all the time, look at what happened to the saints last year.
colts won the trade. you dont always hit on picks and they will be back half part of the draft. most of the talent ballard has landed on has come from the 2nd round
Another Californian jock on a Seattle team. YEAH!
Are you sick or something😂 Are you forgetting to take a breath😂 My God dude something's going on with you
Wait till sam darnold see ghosts 😂
I had to laugh Richard when you said Kupp is on the shelf, he been on the shelf the whole season. That ROI not paying off
Shaheed helps the defense too. I feel like they need to practice against a guy like that
that sauce trade is CRAZYYYYY!!! Dude isn't even a ball hawk! hes overrated!! i been a jets fan for 25 years. Watched him the day he landed on this field. He cant tackle and cant intercept a ball!! Goodluck Colts!
Rashid Shaheed is exactly who we needed. This is a perfect addition to the Seahawks offense. We were not going to get a RG before the deadline. At this point, if anyone is willing to part ways with their guards, it's not a guard you actually want. But Rashid Shaheed changes this offense. He's a speedy deep threat. He will open up things for the run game, for JSN, for Cooper Kupp, because defenses need to respect that speed. Watch our run game get better with this move. And watch Shaheed score 40 yard TD's with his blazing fast speed and Darnold's deep ball.
Cowgirls need to get rid of Presscot
I'm shocked Josh Downs is changing his number to #2 so Sauce Gardner can wear #1.
