CONDENSED GAME: Boston Bruins vs. New York Islanders – 11/4/2025
Live from UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Welcome to Boston Bruins hockey on Nessen. Tonight, the Bruins look to make it four straight wins taking on the New York Islanders who are riding high after their last minute victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday. Hello again everybody along with Andy Brickley. I’m Jud Serat. Thanks for joining us. After Saturday’s win over the Carolina Hurricanes, head coach Marco Sturm said that was our most structured game by a mile thus far here this season. But Brick, the Bruins need to take that game on the road where they’ve only won once in five outings. Yeah, but you beat a quality opponent and you won the game because you did play with structure. You had some really nice individual performances, but as a team, they played the way they wanted to play. They had a six-game losing streak, yet they’re back to seven and seven at 500. Not only are you building a team, you’re building confidence in one another. Just over a week ago, the Bruins were up in Ottawa and they got trounced seven to two. They came back home 24 hours later, dusted themselves off and ran the table on a three-game home stand. It’s been a nice response by the group. And anytime you can do that, you look at one another in that locker room and you say, “I believe in you and I got your back.” And the numbers tell you what they’ve done in this mini three win a three-game win streak. It goes for 11, goals allowed six. That’s a plus five. The power play’s been clicking pretty good. I know they lost Elias Lynholm. They’ll make an adjustment there. But, you know, three for nine in this series, in this three-game set, the penalty kill almost perfect, 10 out of 11. And and they’re winning more faceoffs than they’re losing. And that’s important because you got to have possession, especially when you get into that special teams numbers. And take note, nine different goal scorers, Jud, in those 11 goals, which tells you they’re getting production up and down all four forward groups. Moons haven’t surrendered a shot on goal here in the first five and a half minutes. Harbertson swings it in. Quick changes for both teams. Islanders come in 65 and one. Winners of their last two and each of their last four on home ice. And we got to stop here and play. And this is going to be an icing. Yeah. Indication was by the linesman where this was going to be ice. David Pos trying to fly the neutral zone. They’re going to try to find him in center ice. Little body contact. Drew in on the back checking. A little slow getting up. Kind of felt his right hip, shook his leg, but he finished the shift. He got himself moving. Got moving. Shot from the left point. That’s where Siroken just headbutts it and help out. Here’s Pelary shoots straight to the stop. That’s a big save for not having had a shot all period. Took 15 minutes for the Islanders to get that shot. Even though we’re a long way from the burrow. That was a Bronx cheer. I heard Richie Dlair Shu swaming stick save. Chopped up top. Pel fires. Swaming a blocker save. Now back of that, here’s Duclair. Chopped away from Dru. Here’s Paul Mary, the Andy Islander’s best chance. Drags it out in front. Another good one. And Slayman beats him at the post. Now Middlestat couldn’t catch up to that puck. Both teams making a few changes with 13 seconds left in the period. [Applause] Chasing as Mlan centered out in front, denied by Mackoy. Oh, and they got spun down by Duclair. And that’ll do it for the opening 20 minutes here at the UBS Arena and the structure brick that we talked about in the open. It looked like what they played with against Carolina carried forth here this first period. No question about it. And that’s the perfect word for that opening 20. It was an efficient, well ststructured threezone game by Boston. I thought there was some opportunities to put pucks at Sroken that they turned down. So, a little bit more shot volume the deeper we get into this hockey game. Arbitson up top. Mackoy shoots wide. Sroen never saw it. Sent back toward the front of the net as Sroen will squeeze that into the midsection. The Bruins have a little something going in the offensive zone. Posanak is going to get a lot of Pelican pull up tonight. That whole line, you know, that’s the matchup that the Islanders want. Reverse hit. Now he’s looking to go back to the point. He got a little unlucky because he had two Islanders in his neighborhood. Bruins are going to get a good opportunity, but just didn’t materialize. Zaka comes right off the bench, gets inside position and has the ability to have the vision to feed that puck to Pasta. You’re looking for that quick shot from Pasta. Thought he had a better option. Pump fake. Try to step to the middle. Got knocked off the puck. was a pretty sturdy defenseman that he staggered. Islanders hack it to the center point. Long shot, they score. Anthony Duclair knuckled by Sway and load the blocker side. Islanders won Bruins nothing. [Music] Shall having a little discussion with the linesman. I don’t think he liked the drop in this case. [Applause] Island is able to win the draw after Suzikas got waved out. It was Sikas on the inside hash cuz that’s where the puck went. Didn’t go straight back. Zikas gets a piece of it and pushes it in the direction of Duclair coming off the other hash mark. He just spins and wrists it through traffic side. So Anthony Duclair opens up the scoring. We’ll see what kind of response we get here from the Bruins. PJO steps in for the draw. He wins it, but jumping is Arbitson. So the Bruins get possession now. Mackoy posters Arbitson send it wide. There was some space. This will stay in. Here’s Makavoy. Quickly to Geeki. Now Arbitson center. Geeki back door. Sack of the night. I think it hit the post. Geeki Zaka Mackamoy Arbitson now settled by Posternok sent out in front and Zaka may have been bothered as he tried to jam it home. Geeky back up top. Posternok swoops to the dock. Fires Sroen the save. Pastnock gets it back. Pastnok Harbertson set it wide. Saka to the middle and it just floats out. 20 seconds left in the power play. Sidor Mitten reaching for it. Schaefer gets away from him and out. Anders Lee to the middle and Schaefer. Schaefer drops and drives. Sent out in front. Swaming the save and the rebound battled out of midair by Lee. And back of the net. Oh, Senora just flattened one of the Islanders. And everybody’s in close quarters. You got PJO wrestling around with Carali. Zedora helmet off. Still in the middle of the frey. Oh, I think that shaper that he popped at the end boards. [Applause] Now Anders Lee gets back up. He’s being held back by Peak. Those two are barking away. [Applause] And we’ll sort this one out. [Applause] The Islanders get a chance off this rush, Jeff. It’s a bad angle shot and then a rebound that pops up into the air in front of Swayman and Lee bats it over the net, but what was going on behind the goal line is what got everybody’s attention. It’s a cross check shove by Zidorov. Then he’s going to finish on the kid. Matthew Schaer takes a little liberty while Schaer’s down on his knees. And that’s certainly going to get the attention of the Islanders. Arbitson couldn’t knock it down with the shaft of the stick. He’ll chase. Squirts free. Saka shoots. Sroen the save. He looks behind the middle stack to the slot. Set out in front. Sro the save. They score. Victor Arbertson shot looked like it quit off a skate. Yeah, I think it hit Andrew Lee who was down trying to help right the top of the blue paint as a forward and I think it went right off his skate and into the open side. But a couple of great plays all the way around by Boston pursuing the puck. Good opportunity for Zaka walking right down. Sroen gets a piece of it. Middlest able to find a play to the high slot. Lynholm finds Arbertson who attacks the net on the forehand. And even though he’s denied, that puck’s going to deflect right off Anders Lee, I believe it is. The Bruins are able to tie it. Quality penalty kill. You follow it up. You get the line change cuz you get the puck into the neutral zone. You get some fresh bodies out there and you tie the game. That Bruins go presented by Audi. Visit your New England area Audi dealer today. So the Bruins answer back following a key kill to tie the game at one. trying to drive it ahead. Intercepted. Here’s Heinman. Five goals here early in the season. He came over from Montreal along with two first round picks for Noah Dobson. Geeky check. Look out. Here’s Barcel. He’ll race back. Horat shoots. He scores. [Music] [Applause] The neutral zone turnover winds up in the back of the Bronx net. Yeah, Moi’s got some options. He’s trying to carry that puck till he gets challenged. You got to find an open man, make a play. Can’t turn the puck over there cuz everyone’s thinking get up in the play. Let’s go offensive. We just tied the game. Let’s build off that. Let’s keep the pressure on. Well, when you turn it over, now it’s a two-on-one in the opposite direction. It’s a wellexecuted twoon one. off the glass. Got to be careful. Hacked out to the neutral zone. Cut off by Zaka. The Bruins tag up. Arbitson. Four goals in his last six, including the one tonight. Arbitson. Zaka. Set it out in front. Shook the same. Rebound. Zaka shoots. He scores. [Applause] Po Zaka planted in the perfect spot. He drills it home. A power play goal. Bruins two, Islanders two. It looked like the Islanders going to get a 200t clear, but they turn the puck over in the neutral zone and the Bruins get right back into the offensive end right here. Heads up play by Zaka. Now you can get into your set if you can’t get anything off that rush immediately. Get into your set and the Bruins start moving the puck around. Trying to find the best shot available right through the paint. That was a good opportunity for Geeki. Arbertson goes looking for the rebound. I know he’s in the blue paint when the puck finds Zaka, but he gets shoved in there by a Pelic. You can look at it all you want, but I don’t think there’s anything coming in terms of a challenge and Zaka buries it. Lynholm across Middle Lholm caught it, but he did over the blue line. Islanders changing. Bruins pushing the action. Lindholm hits the brakes. Yoki Haru Panino middle stack centered back door as had his stick taken. 20 seconds left here in the period. Lynholm shoots blocked and grabbed by Horvac and just out of the box is Mayfield. Lynholm came back to swatted off his stick. That could have been trouble. 5 seconds left in the period. Aimant lost it. And the horn is going to sound to close out an entertaining second period. The Bruins on the man advantage able to square the game. They work their way back from two deficits. Yeah, you know, coming into the game, you got teams with very similar records, very similar numbers, goal differential. You know, they found ways to win hockey games, but are they elite? No, not at this point in the season. So, this is the kind of game you expected. Oh, tried to send it across, but Pel stopped it with his skate. Noted up with Hadino. Islanders back to full strength. Just out of the box is Schaefer. Schaer’s got it. It’s Horvac shoots. He scores. [Music] [Applause] Second of the game for Horvac. The Islanders move in front three to two. Well, after a three- chance flurry early with the man advantage, not much happening after that. The timing works out. Islanders shape her out of the box, but this is just a simple give and go kind of across the blue line. I know that’s in somewhere between the hash marks and the top of the circle for Horvad. He can score goals. I don’t think this changed direction of any sort. I think he just flat out beat Swayman looking for a save there. taps to Mitten. Windholm fires just wide. Won’t block her side. Hooked out in front. Mitten shoots in the save. Oh, he’s had a couple of beauties here in the third. Well, good board play along the hot wrap around back in the defensive zone and the support was there. Jano had it. Castella comes through and now you get an easy out. Now your weak side defenseman can join the rush. Here comes Lynholm. They find him in that high slot. Just misses on the blocker side. But then it’s about puck retrieval. And another opportunity. This one for Mitt point blank on and off the tape of Posternok. Pos shakes back of the net. Threw it out in front. Mackoy centers. Pos back of the net. Mackoy took a bump. Bustanino couldn’t get a clean shot away. He tried to jam it short side. Bananino post to the slot. A mid knockdown. Pack him. They score. [Applause] The Bruins simply would not be denied. Morat in that hook one by a ball of Sroen. Bruins three on their streak. Second and third efforts pay off right here. You got the two kids on the ice along with Pasta. They stayed with it. Nice pass by Mitten on the short side. That didn’t materialize. And then from off the wall on his back hand makes a pass. You think the chance is going to happen for Mitten. It doesn’t happen. But here comes the support after Heinman takes down Mitten after the shot. The rebound is available. We thought that there were rebounds all night long if the Bruins would up the shot volume. And Hlandino gets on it and pulls it around the pile and slides it in on the back end to tie the game. Holds. Gave it away. Castle gets a grip on it. Didn’t get it all the way down. Schaer. Oh, denied by Castle in the blue line. In and around it goes. 18 seconds left. Set out in front. The Bruins smack it up the left side and out. 10. Quick change for the Bruins. Schaefer brings it in. Schaefer right. Schaefer out in front. Swing to the stop off the glass and back into the Islander end. And that’ll do it for regulation. Well, the Bruins certainly earned a point tonight. Well, they sucked it up pretty good here after the questionable call on Mack Boy. Sends him to the penalty box. You finish in regulation if you can short-handed. One last rush. Schaer attacks on his backanded skating ability. Allows him to get all the way to the crease. and Swayman had to make one more save here in regulation. And we talked about the Bruins leaving points on the table earlier in the year. Will they finally get one to overtime? See if they can pull out the extra point. He’s going to chase this down. 25 seconds left here in OT. Post across the one-time fan on by Mackoy. Holstrom gave it away. Zak with 18 post back on the left. Sroen the save rebound swept out in front. Sroen forced to cover. [Music] Some good offensive zone time by this three. So they set up Makoy for the one timer. He can’t flutch it. Then they play make a play again to Makoy. time in tight where he gets a forehander off. Swingman had to make a nice save with the glove to keep this thing 3-3 before the Bruins got possession and got it down the offensive end. 11 seconds left. Mitten out for the draw with Lynholm and Middlestaff. [Applause] Joann’s got it. Eight long pass. Swiming read it. Patted it behind the net. And that’s going to do it for overtime. And to the shootout we go for the first time this season for the Bruins, for the Islanders, their second. Here’s the guy who tied it late in the third period. Moradanino gets the signal. Scoops up the puck to the right circle now. The slot shoots. He scores. Subtle little pump fake to free Sroen to be the blocker side. Scores a huge goal. Get this game to overtime to tie it at three. The confidence right there. A little stunish fake as if he was going to do the quick release. Gets her open to think and then boom, right by block side. The save here and it’s all over. Jonathan Druan almost lost the puck. Now stick handles to the slot. Shoot. Sway and stop. Oh, Jeremy Swam and the Bruins celebrate a gritty road victory for the Bruins here at UBS Arena. And the Boston Bruins snap a road losing skin at four. They have won five of six overall in the first two meetings against the Islanders. Your final here tonight in a shootout. Here for the highlights because sportsnet once again missed the game winner- GO B’S!!!!!
A week or two ago, I commented on how truly awful the Bruins looked. Tonight looked like a well-played game on both sides. The Bruins look infinitely better.
