REPORT: Mets TRADE For Rays Reliever, Raley RETURNS, SIGN Waddell, CUT Drew Smith (Mets News)
How we doing folks? It’s Wardy here and we’re back at it breaking down all the latest news on rumblings in Mets land. And today is not only November 4th, 2025, which is trade deadline day in the NFL space, election day if you’re on the political sphere, but what it also is is another day to break down Mets news and rumblings because David Sterns and the Mets have in fact made a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays to acquire a pitcher. Now, no one should be surprised by this because David Sterns has made more moves with the Tampa Bay Rays than any other organization since becoming Mets president two calendar years ago. So, we’ll expand as to who exactly is this pitcher, where are the Mets getting him, and what could his potential role be heading into the 2026 spring training. From there, we’re going to talk more on the abundance of roster moves the Mets have had because not only did Edwin Diaz and Petonzo opt out of their contracts with AJ Mentor opting in that we broke down in yesterday’s video that you can watch after you guys have watched this one. But today folks, Frankie Monttos has of course opted in as he’ll be rehabbing the next calendar season. Drew Smith who has been rehabbing expected return this bullpen may not necessarily be the case now as he has been declined of his option for the 2026 season by the New York Mets. And not only is Brandon Wedell returning on a major league contract, so we’ll get into the crafty southpaw and how we benefit the Mets to a degree this past year. Limited sample sizes, but one Brooks Rally, the dominant southpaw this bullpen is in fact returning for the 2026 season. That and much more is what we’re going to get into everybody. So sit back, relax, and get yourself ready for the ride, which is everything you need need to know here in Mets land. All I ask is that you hit that like and subscribe button on your way in. And no one should be surprised by this either, but it is really nice to see a New York Mets there, even if he does not win it in the end. First, let’s start off with the obvious one who will be winning this year’s MVP. As much as you may not like it, that’s the reality of it. when you have north of an eight- war season and let’s not even bear in mind the pitching aspect and the great dominance in playoffs because that’s separate from the regular season MVP award here. Showy Otani over 50 bombs another over 100 RBI season. Slug 600 plus just absurd. Right around 80% above league average as a batter. What can Otani do? As much as it may frustrate us as Mets fans to say he’ll be likely winning this one. But behind him is Kyle Schwarb. Schwarbo with those bombs. Schwarber is looking for a big payday this offseason. I would love the New York Mets to be in great standing there. So to be determined on that front as he had a dominant year with north of 60 home runs. And yes, Juan Sodto almost a 4040 season while having 100 RBI’s, 100 walks, a slash line of 263 average, 396 on base, 525 slugger. So we’re looking at just under 60% above league average as a batter. Over six war season. So he himself accounted for over six wins for the Mets this past year alone. Juan Stoodto was a little up and down in the production what we were getting. He always looked good for the most part, but there were times where he did look a little lost. Looked like he didn’t know what to do with runners and scoring position. Definitely looked like he didn’t know how to drive a baseball out of the ballpark when he had multiple runners on base. That all changed big time in the second half, especially as we get it got more into the month of August and on. He dominated. He stayed steady all second second half long with the runner scoring position production for the most part. and Juan Sto in his first year as a New York Met while it maybe isn’t the best year technically of his career is right up there especially with his dominance in the base running front with 38 stolen bags. You just have to wonder, can Sodto keep that kind of pace up with the base running now that Antoine Richardson, who we heavily credited for his success this past year, no longer be part of the organization moving forward as Richardson will likely be signing a contract for a coaching coaching role elsewhere as he and the Mets did not come to terms on a new deal after the Mets did everything that they could have done according to Andy Martino of SNY to bring back the coveted first base coach. So now guys, Juan Sodto very respectable first season as a New York man. I think we could all agree the fact that some people had a comment on my platform yesterday saying, you know, I’m waiting for everyone to call out Juan Stoodto for being the worst move in Mets history. I’m like, what are we talking about here? I mean, why do people think we’re under the W Ponzi regime? I I understand from the sense of lack of continued success, a lot of frustration the past 5 years with things not going right, per se. I don’t fault you for feeling that way, but when it comes to spending, that’s where you’re completely missing the mark. I mean, this is not a Steve Cohen situation like the Wool Ponds where they had all their money embedded in Bernie Maid off all those decades ago and then bam, it directly impacted how they would run the organization moving forward. Steve Cohen is the wealthiest owner in baseball right now. Um, and that’s by a wide margin for that matter and he’s a diehard Mets fan. Uh, what makes you think that a Juan Sto contract is going to get in the way of the Mets making other proper moves? As a matter of fact, the only reason why the New York Mets signed Juan Sto to that record-breaking contract was for the sole purpose to make sure that he has a continued competitor of a great contending team around him year in and year out. The Mets failed miserably in 2025. But to suggest that Juan Sto is part of the problem would only make sense if the Mets penny pinched in every other area of need, which they will more than likely not be doing heading into next season. Should they just work around the margins? Should they not really amplify greater need that we know when it comes to bringing Alonzo and Diaz back and adding other external pieces? Should they not do anything but lateral moves at best, then that’s a different discussion that we will have most certainly where it’ll be filled by rage by yours truly. But Juan Sto wishing the best and these MVP finalist votes. Really happy to see that for his first year as a New York Met. Still feels surreal that he’s a New York Met. I know that may seem silly to you guys for me to say, but listen, so does a guy that’s been a part of this organization for just the past calendar year. But as someone who’s idolized him as really just witnessed his dominance since his age of 18, 19 with the Washington Nationals, it is really insane to kind of see it already him being a New York Mets. Something that we were salvating at the mouth for even when he was in pinstripes as a New York Yankee. And I feel like it’s going to really set in more on Juan Sto being a York Met next season, God willing, that the Mets actually play competent baseball throughout the course of the summer. You know, it was really a a moot point for his success this year, that being in Sodto, because it didn’t mean all that much when the Mets just had their continued loss. You know, one man cannot single-handly win these games enough for the New York Mets, as much as we would hope Juan Sto could. It just is not going to be that. There’s no eye in team and you need a team collective effort in order to reach postseason play. So, that’s all I got there in regards to what’s happening with the MVP stuff. So, now let’s get into some of these key roster moves that we have amplified at this point, everybody. Actually, one final thing I do want to make note of. So, I think you guys are going to find this intriguing. So, this is Petonza’s Instagram and this is Petonza’s profile pick. There’s Harrison Mater behind him having a lot of fun with the Gator for Florida. Now, this is not at all a big deal, but I’m going to talk about this now before we have people run on social media further than what they already have. Make it a bigger deal than what is. And I have fallen out of the category. I’ve overreacted to things before in the past, just like any other, pardon me, any other schmuck would. But there’s a tactic behind this. Okay. Cody Bellinger and Pete Alonzo have taken off their profile picks and their team gear. Belly was originally in a Yankee uniform, now he’s a free agent. Petonzo and his Mets uniform now free agent. Now, why would they change their profile photo? Is it because A, they’re guaranteed to be leaving? Or is it B because they’re Scott Boris clients and this is what Boris does with all of his players for the most part? Why give a team any sense of leverage in early negotiations? Which means don’t rep them. Don’t act like you represent them when you’re not actively under contract. know your value and do not sell anything about you for free. That is exactly what’s happening here. Don’t look at anything past it. Barring changes. Listen, is there a reality where Alonzo is not a New York Mat next year? Yes, there is a reality where that is the case, but this photo change on Instagram has nothing to do with it. So, I just wanted to preface fans before they maybe have their quick overreaction saying, “Oh my god, Peta is leaving.” Like, yeah, it may happen and we’ll freak out about it. We’ll talk about it. Should have happened this off seasonason, but ain’t going to happen on November 4th, 2025. The earliest that’s going to happen is sometime getting into the winter meetings or dragging out all the way until potentially January and or worse February like last year. So all I’m saying is guys, could Allonzo be leaving? Yes. Is this a precursor to that? No, I do not believe so whatsoever. This is standard practice for many players and this is not just a baseball thing. This goes this is universal with sports. How many times have we seen a top player from a top team change their profile pick, delete photos on their Instagram, unfollow a team, and then still nothing happens because maybe they’re just part of active negotiation more times than I can possibly count. So, that’s all I got for you there. Now, let’s get into actually what we’re supposed to talk about today, everybody, as I mentioned. And let’s go right here. All right, here we go. Let’s start from the top. Drew Smith has been declined of his $2 million club option. He with he will hit the free agent market after missing this entire past season with Tommy John surgery. I knew this was going to happen. I’m not surprised that this happened and I’m wishing Drew all the best with his future endeavors because unless the New York Mets decide to sign Drew Smith at a lower rate, let’s say maybe half this AEV, let’s make say a one-year one $1 million contract, you know, is Drew Smith worthy of $2 million next year? No, he’s not. not not as slight on him personally, but he’s not I don’t it’s hard it’s hard to justify that in my opinion for Drew um when you look at his sample sizes of his success at least a little bit it’s fluctuated a decent amount and I don’t hate Drew Smith by any stretch but he has been a home run cane in the worst way possible meaning he’s given up bombs but in 2024 when he did pitch before uh suffer from injury 17.2 innings a roughly 12k per nine a four and a half walks per nine 3.06 rate 4.4 4 expected year rate not loving that home run rate over one 2023 Drew Smith 56 innings almost a 10k per nine 4.6 walks per nine over one home run per nine a 4.1 year rate 4.4 for expected year Ray 2022 Drew Smith that was the dog Drew Smith that was the one that we appreciate most at this point 46 innings 10.37 K per nine sub3 walks per nine 3.3 RA and 3.78 expectra Drew Smith was a dog in the 2022 season in a Mets bullpen that obviously had great success headlined by Edwin Diaz but the problem for Drew Flow who even had a 2.4 year but an expected array of 3.8 eight in 2021 is that he’s given up the long ball at a great rate. That 2022 season in particular killed him with the long ball, a 1.76 home run per nine and a 1.52 the year prior. Uh that’s been a bugaboo for Drew as we know and that fast ball’s been flat. So knowing that he’s coming back from obviously Tommy John surgery, you may say to yourself, Wardy, why would the New York Mets allow Drew Smith to rehab in the organization throughout the entire year just for him to still hit the open market? And there’s two schools of thought. There is a the Mets did it because they still want to do right by Drew. He’s done nothing but good things. Been a positive influence on the organization one way or another and they’re just treating the man right and they want that to be an example of how they will treat other players in the future to make sure that they come off as a desirable destination to be as say they can’t sway you with consistent winning because we know they have yet to do exactly that. or it’s B the fact that they do want to bring Drew Smith back, but they never envision bringing him back at that current AEV, which is somewhat justified. I don’t think the Mets are penny pinching, but rather just being smart and allocating their dollars. Why give Drew Smith $2 million when he hasn’t necessarily done anything to warrant deserving it when you could give him say more of the minimum, you could give him more around 1 mil. You could give him I mean, you could give him 900k for all we like. Is Drew Smith going to sign a contract somewhere for a couple mill? Maybe. I mean, if so, go good luck and God bless. I’m wishing him the best. But coming off of Tommy John surgery, I don’t know if he has enough of a track record to really warrant such things. So, it’s one or the other there, but that’s all I have to really say on the Drew Smith front. And then briefly on the Frankie Monttos front, I’m I’m going to be completely blunt. It’s nothing personal against Frankie. But I’m not here to talk about this bum today. I’m really not. Okay? He’s going to be rehabbing the organization all year long and then we’ll worry about it after that. Okay. The good news is that regardless of this 17 million, it it is it isn’t going to hinder the Mets from making the decisions that they want to make this off season. Just an absolute shame, an albatross of a contract. From the get-go by David Sterns, you could rightfully argue. And out of the many bad moves that David has made the past calendar year, there’s no no one worse than this. And like Jose Syria, for the most part, there really isn’t much that can compete worse than Frankie Moltos. Just looked not good in camp. Looked clearly out of shape. hurt himself right in the beginning of spring training. Was batting practice for a month’s full worth of rehab. Came up to the bigs, was batting practice more often than not. Had like two decent outings and that was about that before things got really bad again. Then he gets thrown in the bullpen. Useless there as well. Mets don’t want to touch him when they clearly have no clue what to do because they can’t just like do too much here because of the money that they have tied up and then he needs Tommy John surgery and the rest is history. The reconstructive Tommy John, whatever the case may be. I liked Montas when he was in Oakland. Uh, and that’s when they were in Oakland and not Sacramento now. Um, he just has not been the same pitcher since really. And if there’s one thing you could say about Monttos is that his success was completely contingent as to where he played to a degree. He had some significant splits home versus road and he dominated in Oakland taking advantage of the Coliseum there and how that was the dimensions of that ballpark, how that benefit him. Now that City Field is a hitters ballpark by any stretch of the imagination. But Montas was never healthy this year and he has not looked good in the big market between the Mets and the Yanks now. Limited sample sizes. He’s looked like nothing short of batting practice and nothing short of a player that Mets fans hope to forget and circle back a year from now and be like, “Oh, Frankie Monttos totally forgot about him. I guess we’ll see what happens.” But all right guys, talking about seeing what’s happening for this New York Mets team. Let’s look no further than the latest move that they made because they have in fact made a trade for one Joey Gerber here from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash. Now, Joey Gerber, who’s Joey? Nice smile here. I’ll tell you right away, Joey Gerber is not a guy that you should be losing sleep over. Okay, I know Mets fans, you’re crying already. You’re saying Wardy, another garbage bin bum for David Sterns ad. I know you’re not surprised, Wardy, but how can you try to spin this steaming pile of dog you know what into something different? And this is not about spinning. This is common sense. I report on all things the New York Mets, good and bad. You guys have seen that plenty if you’ve been followers of the platform the past couple years. Uh bias does not get in the way of being blunt about when things are going wrong along with when admitting that you know maybe you’re wrong about something wrong about previous reactions and moves and they don’t work out among others. H but there’s one thing I know. It’s that regardless on what David Sterns does or doesn’t do, every team has a normal process in an offseason and how they acquire depth. And when I say depth, there are levels to depth that I feel like a lot of fans do not take nearly into account. And you have Major League Baseball depth of players, meaning that these are guys that deserve to be here, but your team is just good. So good. So, they’re going to be maybe not a starter every day. Maybe not your top reliever, but they’re guys that you can of course dabble with because you know that they have some upside for you. Then you have your fringe MLB depth. And when we say fringe, these are guys that you know you may have up for the major leagues for a period of time as well as the minor leagues. And that is more than likely where Joey Gerber will fall in the category of. Then beyond that, we have depth more solely in the minor leagues, meaning they’re signing minor league contracts of players for the purpose of them more than likely beginning the year in said minor leagues. Maybe you’re working on them to see if you can get any adjustments out of them if maybe they’re failed prospects. Maybe they’re veterans that you can still squeeze some success out of at the major league level, but you need to get right first. Whoever the case may be, or they’re just guys that you really want as a stop gap in the minor leagues. Maybe you need a a a position filled because you know that you have a top prospect from say single A or double A that’ll inevitably be moving up into the organization once promotions happen from the AAA level to the major league level. So again, there’s really three to four different levels of depth that every team does every single offseason. And I understand David Sterns has lost a good chunk of our trust from everything going wrong this past year. Injuries aside, he was out fall for a lot. Nothing really was looking good outside of Juan Sto and Pete Alonzo had into this past season. So bearing that in mind, I understand the level of fans that have not only their criticisms with David, but are very taken back when you see minor moves happen. You just have to remember we are going to see a flurry, a continuation of more minor moves before we see major moves this offseason. And that’s how it works, everybody. Barring some drastic trades or signings that we cannot predict or say at this point in time in the coming weeks, nothing really picks up really until you get into late November. Once you reach the deadlines of the qualifying offers, once you reach the deadlines of tenders versus non- tender contracts, once teams are really trying to figure out their roster room there, then you get into winter meetings in the second week of December. And that’s when the stove is unbelievably hot more than likely by that time, if not sooner. You know, it’s going to be hot throughout the remainder of the year heading into January and beyond. So there’s a lot of time for a lot of big splashes to happen. And my not question, but rather my statement to every fan that gets very perplexed and taken back by these kind of moves is the following. Have your reaction if we’re a couple months in the offseason and a lot of the big names are off the board, a lot of guys that actually made sense to the Mets, including player reunions like Alonzo Diaz, etc., and external targets in the franian trade market say hypothetically the majority of them go off the board and the Mets have nothing. That is where you have every right to speak because that is a rifle concern. You saw other top contending teams go in and swoop up players that you were hoping the Mets would land. That’s where you have a justified reason to start crashing out or having the immediate emotional reaction that you may have as a fan. But right now on November 4th, don’t waste any time with it. It’s literally pointless. every single team and their mother will in fact be making death moves just like this. So now let’s talk about Gerber. And no, he’s not a baby. He’s 28 years old, believe it or not. He has a 3.6 year rate in 19 career MLB appearances. Um but what we saw this past season was the first time that he pitched at the major league level since the 2020 season. So this is someone who does have a cup of coffee in the bigs, but not someone who hasn’t necessarily been here too long. and expand a little bit more on Gerber just so you guys uh uh get a greater grasp as to what the Mets are getting in someone like him. Nothing overly fancy. You’re just getting a guy who’s going to come in and hopefully be someone who the Mets can try to work well with with their lab. And what did we see this past year in 4.1 innings? He posted a two two year rate and a one expected year. So nothing to complain about there at the major league level in his very very small limited sample sizes at the AAA level. What’s interesting about him is there’s clearly a flaw and we all see the flaw together. Let me know if you see it everybody. You see the 11.17k per nine and then you see the 3.05 walks per nine. That looks fantastic for AAA splits from K to walk ratio, but then you see that 1.83. That’s a problem. And that 1.83 is his home run per nine that he allowed in 44.1 innings. And that is why in a very David Sterns fashion, we’re talking about another fringe MLB reliever that hosted a six-year array between Minors and or Majors this past year. Now, Majors, he looked good. Minors had just over 60. His FIP was just under five and his expected FIP was just over four. Um, so should fans be bothered by this? No, because there’s a reality where Gerber doesn’t impact the Mets at all next season. There’s a reality that the man doesn’t even get past spring training because he doesn’t impress enough. Because you have to realize the Mets are going to be adding an abundance of pitchers that they see certain upside in when it comes to one or multiple pitches that they have. See how they can look in spring training then go from there. This is not something the Mets sign to be their closer next season as an Edwin Diaz replacement as of now. I promise you that. Believe it or not, folks. I promise. I really do. What this is is just more depth for a guy that more than likely is gonna start the year in triple A unless you somehow really ooze and oz and the stuff just looks brilliant for some reason. Clearly David Stern saw enough in him to seek him from the Tampa Bay Rays and the Rays didn’t see enough in him to be so willing to trade him for cash. But also realize Tampa could turn out pitching talent like that and ways that the Mets h even though they’re on the rise of doing with their great farm still a little behind on. The Rays have had a foundation for the past 15, 20 years. They’re just brilliant player development and scouting. And that is why they turn out pitching every year. No matter if they have big names in the rotation or names you never heard of, they always tend to make it work on their rotation, their bullpen dynamic. And that’s why they would rather take on cash of a couple hundred thousand instead of bringing a guy back who they know they can easily replace because of how good their staff is. And for the Mets here, they clearly see something in him that, you know, they’re going to prioritize more than what Tampa is at this point in time. And to expand a little bit more on him, everybody, here’s some of the limited uh highlights that you guys can see right here beside me on Gerber and what you’re getting him to expand more on his arsenal as to how exactly does he throw, what’s the VA looking like, and ultimately if he does impact the Mets in their bullpen at all next season, what can Mets fans expect? It’s a great question and the answer to that is that what Mets fans can expect in the scenario that they do in fact have Joey Gerber get some taste at the big league level because it may very well happen everybody is the following. you are going to be getting an Arsenal that’s right around, you know, three to four pitch mix. It may change obviously now that the Mets have added him. They may want to fine-tune the Arsenal a bit, but last season he had the forcing fast ball that sat right around 94. He had the slider sitting right around 85 and the change up sitting right around 8788. As you guys can see, those are highlights during his time with the Seattle Mariners beside me. He’s had some big strikeouts, including one on Kyle Tucker that you guys are going to see right here right now. Future New York Met Kyle Tucker. And I’m just saying that nonsense because Kyle Tucker is the biggest baddest man available in this year’s free agent market or at least one of them to say the least. Now Mets fans, there really isn’t much more to say on that in regards to Gerber. Just another arm to throw into the mix to see what upside he has if at all at the major league level. So you guys can let me know in the comments down below your thoughts on the Mets adding another arm here in Gerber who has had levels of success in the major league level but hasn’t done it over a overly consistent amount. So I guess my question to you guys is for those that care solely about Ray, and I’m not one of those people because there’s so much more that goes in evaluation of a player beyond Ray, especially when you look at the advanced and expected numbers. However, for those specific fans, I’m calling out you everybody that are like this, what do you value more? Do you value a career of 3.6 six in 19 games at the major league level across a couple seasons, or do you value a six-year ray and 44 innings this past year in the minor leagues? What’s more important to you? What he didn’t do right in the minor leagues with different types of baseballs having a higher home run rate or what he did right in a smaller sample size of the major league level? I’m curious where you guys stand on that front because for me, I understand both sides of the coin and I I also just understand more than anything, this is just another pitcher added to the mix. really nothing more, nothing less until we start to say in spring training, oh my god, Gerber just strugg like once we get a chance to really lean into the reactions of the overreactions of spring training, we’ll have fun with it. Until then, you know, there’s really nothing else to harp on here. So now guys, going on from Gerber, we do have a couple other things on the Mets roster transactional front to break down. And one of them is one I am unbelievably happy about, and that’s my dog. That’s my dog, baby. Brooks Rally the bulldog is back. Now, for those that don’t know Brooks Rally, you either have not watched Mets baseball when he’s been to Met the past couple years, haven’t paid attention, or you’re just crazy and you don’t know a goat when you see one. But Brooks really, everybody, look no further. This man has been one of my favorite relievers in the organization since Billy Uper traded him for Kachan Ascu a couple years ago, entering then that 2023 season. an absolute shame that the New York Mets did not take advantage of having a great Brooks really because they were horrendous in 2023. But really was far from the reason why. And who then had reconstructed Tommy John surgery, missed almost all of last year with the exception of going his first nine outings scoreless or so. He’s awesome. Um up until he went down with his injury, comes back, enters his age 36 37 season, returns mid-season for the Mets, and he is exactly as advertised, a 2.45 year rate in 25 innings. the most reliable reliever option in this Mets bullpen outside of what we saw there in Edwin Diaz. Was or not to love about Brook Brooks really the crafty southpaw a 78 whip a 2.12 fib at 3.3 SIA 200 and pardon me 25 strikeouts an 8.8 8 k per nine or 2.1 walks per nine. I will preface his k per nine is the lowest it’s been in a number of years in his career, but I think this has more just to do with the fact of him returning from injury and that basically being that. You know, there was nothing really bad about his swing to miss. He just wasn’t doing it as high of a rate as he was doing it from his previous fully healthy season with the New York bats. Nonetheless, Brooks Really, a fine wine getting better as he gets older. Fun story about for those that don’t know. He like the next softball that we’re going to break down. Brandon Wedell both had themselves having success coming from the KBO because was initially a starter in Major League Baseball. Went to the KBO for the Korean baseball league for a bit as a starter. Came back as a reliever with the Tampa Bay Rays. Had a great season and then the Mets ate him up for breakfast and trade for him. And the good thing about that is that knowing that there are many pitchers that will leave the Rays organization and never be that good again good again. That wasn’t the case with Railing the Mets. The Mets have a really good lab. And I know you guys critique the lab as much as you do. But I can tell you as someone who literally was just speaking to a good buddy of mine today that actively works in the Phillies pitching department. And that’s not an exaggeration. I’m going to expand more in the coming days because he told me some really good insight on Justin Willard who is now the Mets new pitching coach that I think you guys will appreciate. We’ll talk about it in separate content though. You know, he is a prime example of exactly showing you the importance of a lab because he works with these exact kind of biomechanic related things, especially when you look at the equipment that they use, especially from Tread Athletics, Driveline, etc. That’s what they use in the Phillies or that’s what they use in the Mets or he was just raving upon raving on what the Mets are building right now in their farm up. So, yes, critique the Mets plenty at the major league level for what went wrong this past year with their injuries, etc. But two things can be true in the same time. Mets could have failed miserably with their initial pitching philosophy, but they didn’t fail in what they are building actively in the organization and getting the best out of pitchers. And that’s a very exciting thing. And really has not only been able to benefit from that from that information, but he’s coming from the Houston Astros, coming from the Tampa Bay Rays. He was kind of a perfect fit for David Sterns when Sterns first became president as is because David Sterns has those connections from Tampa. also because of the fact that he was initially an assistant GM in Houston going back to around the time that Brooksley was part of the organization. So there’s some interesting ties there and I I wonder if they’ve had a conversation Brooks and David at all on that front. But really will be returning at $4.75 million next season. Easy money for the Mets. No problem. They benefit so greatly. Say what you will about David CS and what he did wrong this past offseason bringing back Brooks really with a secondyear club option. Oh my god, was he right. I I raved about it when it initially happened. I’m raving about it again. Brooks is a bulldog and he and AJ Mentor, God willing, they can stay healthy, will be a more than fine, dynamic southpaw duo in this Mets bullpen for the 2026 season. So really, we love you. Happy to have you here, baby. Now going on Mr. Brooks, everybody, let’s also get on to Mr. Brandon Wedell because I know he’s in here somewhere. Let me just see where he put I put him. Here we go. Here’s the other one. Brandon Wedell has signed to a major league contract in case you guys are unaware and let me know your thoughts on Brooks really in the comments down below. The Bulldog really but Brandon Wedell is returning the New York Mets on a major league contract. He as I mentioned like really uh came over from the KBO but entered the major leagues again this past year where the Mets signed him an offseason ago. And he was also the teammate there in the KBO of Jared Young who obviously had cups of coffee at the major league level with the Mets this year too as an infield TH option. But a 3.45 four, five URA in 11 appearances is nothing to scoff at for Wedow. Like honestly, for when he was called upon, not the problem. He was a guy that innings for the Mets, gave us some outings where he just went like four rock solid innings when we really needed to save the bullpen. Nothing crazy on the K to walk ratio as he was just a rubber arm for us this year. Uh his expected numbers aren’t great by any stretch, but he was a guy who I really think the Mets can mold more into kind of being that rubber arm swingman type for them next season again. you know, not a guy that they necessarily need to have dependent at the major league level right away, but at the same time, I I absolutely believe that there is a world where Brandon Wedell, should he be utilized properly, could be a nice lawn reliever for the Mets in this bullpen, especially as a guy that can come in and give you different looks as a southpaw. I I like that quite a bit. And that’s a different dimension than the lefty options in both AJ Mentor and Brooksley as those are more your higher leverage lefty guys. You don’t need Brandon Weld to be your higher leverage lefty guy. he’s your lucky guy that you can bring in to have say solid three innings after maybe your starter only gives you you know you know 4.2 innings that day whatever the case may be. So that’s all I have to really say on Brandon Wedell pretty neutral about it. I’m not opposed to him returning as long as the Mets just don’t run it back with everybody and make some key acquisitions for the better for this club. That’s really all I care about heading into next season. That’s why everybody be on the lookout because this week we’re going to have some big content dropping regarding what the Mets may be doing this offseason. some players that they could find themselves looking to acquire. We’ve talked about an abundance of options already on the platform over the past month and a half since the Mets have officially been eliminated from uh potential postseason play for that matter, but we’re going to rehash those conversations as well as talk about a lot of different players that we haven’t yet to this point as we do every single offseason. Hi Tyler
We have been doing this for years for "depth". the quality of depth we have gotten has been horrid. None of this matters when you end up needing to go through 46 different guys last season because said quality from depth is so ineffective.
The mad scientist is at it again. Make Soto a DH like Big Papi.
Help us get to 250+ likes & 36K subs! Mets fans, what’s YOUR thoughts on all we broke down today? 🤔
Depth depth until its not
Waited all day for this video
I wish we could ban Scott Boras to a reality where there is a salary cap
Stearns need to be fired.
Stern is at it again at Five and Dime store. It’s his nature😂
It’s crazy to think I just turned 37 in September and that next years season will mark 40 years since the last World Series win…
Is there anyway that someone could let David Stern know that this is not his money that he’s giving to players?
Are the Mets giving a spot on the 40-man roster to Joey Gerber? That's RIDICULOUS.
Hi love my mets 😮😮
Dollar General Stearns strikes again!
I trust David Stearns moves u will see this winters meeting
STINGY STEARNS letting eveeybody that he's a CHEAPSKATE SCREWBALL. ONLY A SCREWBALL CAN SUCK UP TO SCREWBALL CHEAPSKATE STEARNS. ANY TAKERS???
Cheapskate Stearns as usual being himself, not re-signing the succesful first base coach. WHAT A BIG JACKASS!!!
His role is to get DFA by May
And the dumpster diving begins
Good luck to you for the 2026 season and welcome to the team Joey Gerber
Soto MVP? Must be a joke. Actually, as a team, Mets played better without him.
Why does Stearns dumpster dive, for our pen. Boy genius,,, not.
Sterns new what they needed last year and he didn't do it so no trust there
Super excited for the jersey!!
Trade for Ashcraft from the Pirates future all-star.
Hi Wardy, is this a good move? LGM!
Stupid Stearns giving montas a free 17 million really smart what a waste
I wish I could sit around and collect a cool 17 million
Time to move from NY.
Stupidity Rules! First Stearns is an arrogant self loving narcissist who has dreams of how much smarter he is than the entire rest of mankind! Then there’s the fool who has the lack of one iota of intelligence to text that the Lame Mets played better without Soto???
If minter and raley stay healthy they will be a great lefty duo for 2026. I also like Waddell as some extra depth💪
Oh great, all the guys we don't want opted in and the ones we do want opted out 🙄
