Link to the tribute. Luka like Dirk was loyal. That's the reason I'm a Laker fan now. This entire tribute was a slap to the face to the fans that supported the franchise. I still don't understand how present day fans got over it.

    I imagine many of them did not. That’s not a knock on them. Fans give their time, money, and energy to a team. Unceremoniously trading the franchise player they invested so much into is a slap in the face. You may still root for the team, but you don’t ever get over it.

  3. From the other side- I was unsure what to think about getting Luka as a Laker fan knowing we were punting the year bc no bigs.

    However the AD LeBron combo was simply not working anymore and was never going to work again. LeBron can’t carry like he used to. AD never could.
    it was going to be a really devastating period with old AD, Reaves.. bron retires. And no picks. Who do u pair w them that wants to come to La?

    This trade made me watch the lakers again. It made my young children into legitimate lakers fans again bc they saw my genuine interest and excitement for watching lakers game.

    Luka saved my relationship w the lakers. And he made my son a real basketball fan.

  4. I’m now a Lakers fan because of this, I was done with the Mavs once they traded Luka. I feel bad for Klay Thompson being stuck there, he went there to play with Luka and have a shot to win.

  5. Yea even if I hadn’t left that fandom with Luka I would have watching this.

    The whole passion and fun he brings to every game reminded me of why I loved playing in the first place, I knew there was no way I could stomach watching the Mavericks again

    Everything else that came out is what pushed me to root for their actual failure though

  6. Luka’s reaction mirrors that of Mavs fans. He didn’t want to go and we didn’t want him to go. Fuck Nico. I hope Luka gets all the recognition and ring(s) he deserves.

  9. Behind the absolute joy and disbelief I have about Luka being a Laker, part of me feels really bad for Mavs fans that they will never experience this generational phenom on their team again.

  13. It’s wild that our Laker family is now home to a bunch of Mav transplants. Probably helps there wasn’t a whole lot of bad blood between the franchises

  14. Dirk seems like more of a Lakers fan than a Mavs fan now and I think all people who supported Dallas should follow whatever Dirk goes with.

    Always will root for Luka. I’m supporting the Lakers like my own and probably always will while Luka is there. I’m also actively rooting for the Mavs to lose, that will and can change. Nico needs to be fired, rebuild, and ideally an ownership change.

    Anyone acting like they care about the Mavs the same are coping so hard!

    and i hope cooper flagg leaves the mavs as soon as he’s able.

  22. I honestly cannot think of another team in another sport who absolutely managed to make a decision which literally alienated the entire fan base and made everybody else ask the question wtf just happened in a second from hearing the news.

    I was new to the Mavs and I could see immediately how important he was, he was the mavs but I like his play so when it happened I followed the player.

    It really doesn’t help with the lies and excuses nico and the board made up to try and justify it and how they personally attacked Luka, as it turned out nico had some kind of vendetta it seemed as he was getting rid of players and support staff he liked years before the trade.

    At least he is happy in LA, you can see with his his on/off court style with various players he’s made himself at home now.

  23. I’m a loyal Luka fan. Bro coulda gone to any team, and I’d follow him(as a fan) there. That’s being said, I hope mavericks don’t win a damn thing while luka is around. Fuck Nico and the new ownership for breaking my guys heart like that.
