Steven Stamkos: Postgame Interview – Nov. 4

crazy end to a game. I saw you talking to the refs after. What was the explanation that you were given? Well, I think Toronto ended up making the call. Um, obviously one of the refs who called it a goal on the ice thought that our goalender pushed the net off on purpose and and therefore um denied an opportunity for them to score. But obviously there’s two sides to everything. our side thought, you know, obviously the net came off um but he missed the shot and it went wide and if the net wasn’t off in the angle that it was at, the puck would have went behind the net and therefore he wouldn’t have had a second opportunity. So if we’re staying true to the rule and our interpretation of it is if the net is off and it directly affects a goal that is scored, then yeah, we have no problem with that. But the original shot didn’t go in and the puck bounced back to him because the net was off. So that’s where we were a little confused. Silver lining here. Team does get a point. You tie it up with.3 seconds left in that time in the six on five. Ryan O’Reilly won four faceoffs. How big of a role did he play in getting this game to OT? Oh, it’s huge. I mean, it’s it’s the little things that don’t necessarily show up on the scoreboard that obviously he does so well. And I thought our team did well in general tonight. I mean, obviously that was a a big moment in the game. I thought we won a lot of puck battles. The retrievalss were great. um made some nice plays and obviously it was nice to see that one go to to at least get a point, but thought we deserve better. Um so it’s it’s a game that’s frustrating because of the way it ended, but there’s some some a lot of things to be positive about in terms of of how we carried the play. Unfortunate ending to this game, but Eustace on made some huge saves, including a lingering puck in the blue ice and overtime. What did you think of your net minder tonight? No, he was fantastic. I mean, obviously, um, doesn’t get a ton of of playing time with, um, Juice in in the net. Little juice, but, uh, listen, he’s a he’s a pro. He works he works his tail off in practice, and he’s a big guy. He he, you know, as long as we can get him to see the puck, I mean, he’s going to block it. He’s he’s a great great goalender. So, um, obviously frustrating for him in in a game where where he played so well that, uh, it had to end in that fashion. Thanks so much, Stephen. Yep. Thank you.

  1. Toronto’s still made that the Blue jays lost and have $#!+ for brains. Stammer is right, this was a bad call. The refs handed the Mild a win. It’s fine though, they’re still n behind us in the division.
