Hi everybody. Welcome to Vancouver, British Columbia, one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. And the Canucks with a packed house here tonight, ready to roll for EA Sports. Both teams lined up in the middle. We are ready to get things underway. The Canon start things off on the right note by winning the opening draw. Oh, little catber like play with the stick. Oh, what a save. What a play. A such an athletic save, James. I mean, that’s just all about competing, finding a way to get to the puck. Knight’s been consistent. Oh, off the ar. Oh, great chance there, James. And an opportunity to get the go-ahad goal, but the bike gets in the way and it says not today. The Canucks have it on the offensive end and he fights off another save. Both sides mixed up for that battle for the puck along the wall. And now he passes up to Barakovski. Slides the puck over to Blossom. Vancouver’s got the puck. Quick pass across to De Brusk. Taken along the wall by Basher. Nice block save by Knight. Slides back. Scores. Snow is now up for you. You want to dictate pace, especially when the puck drops. One in early. That’s the best way to get it done. He’s going to finish this play, but I love how he starts it. It’s all with a loose pot battle. And you have to have the tenacity and the fight within you to win this battle. It ain’t easy when you got a defender right on you, but you figure it out, power out, and you take it to the net. The Canad have to be feeling good about themselves. They have been pushing and pushing to start this one. James emotionally charged as they’re at home. They’re playing their opponent and they started right from puff drop and that emotion was transferred and channeled into their feet because they all over the ice with their legs under them. What a great save. Pumps the puck away. The Canucks carrying it on the wall. Takes the puck behind the net. Feeds it to Terra. Slides the puck to Heed and he uses his reach to disrupt the play. The Blackhawks have it now. And he serves it across to Verusi along the side. Here they come through the neutral zone. And got the puck against the boards. The Blackhawks gain possession along the wall. Made that stop. Deno going to hang on for the whistle here. It’s been a hoham night for him. Well, it really has. He hasn’t been tested, but it is a close game and he’s got to come up big. He has to stay dialed in and focused in this one. Vancouver’s open things up here in the first as a result of their offense tonight. And they take possession off the draw here in their own end. takes it across the blue line. The Blackhawks have it now and a stiff break that up. Carries it into the offensive end up the middle. Turned aside with the glove by Denko. There’s the whistle as the puck is frozen up. Still lots of time left here in this frame. The Canucks have taken a one- nothing lead. The Blackhawks take possession off the faceoff and that’s a great heads up in the defensive zone to force the turnover. Takes the feed. I don’t even know if a soccer net would have found the back of that one. It’s such a fast game and sometimes it’s hard to be situationally aware and know where everyone is on the ice. I think he had more time and he just rushed this one and he sailed it wide. Fires it into the offensive zone. The Blackhawks gain control of the puck. Gaining momentum along the wing. Huge play in his own end to come up with the puck. Picked up along the boards by Laferty. Pass it over. Quick pass to Patterson. Orbert slugging the puck. The Blackhawks gain control of it. Passes over to Laferty. Works it across to Donado. moves it to the offensive zone. Easily turned aside by Demco. Great positioning by the goalender to redirect it to the corner. Getting it out of danger. Chicago’s got the puck along the wall. We got a whistle offside the call. Past the midway mark of the frame. The Conucks lead it one- nothing. Vancouver’s run the face off at center from the left side. They enter the offensive zone. Just gets enough to keep it out. Both teams are set. We’ll drop the puck here. The frozen biscuits dropped and we are back underway here. Chicago’s got control of the puck through the overnight. They’re picking up steam. Moves it to Bluger. Sherwood’s got the puck. Chicago’s got possession of the puck. Angles it over to Laferty and uses the length of his stick to knock that puck away. Quick feed to Garland. The Blackhawks have it from their own end. Takes the feed. Carol Biden’s gun on the offensive end. Shots and makes a save. Goender covers it up and we’ll get a reset here. Getting into the later stages of this period. One- nothing the score. The Canucks win the draw. Takes a couple of knocks and loses control. Denise. He got all of it. Goender covers up and we’ll get a face off. Can they take advantage after winning that draw? Says the pass over the save with the glove to knock it away. Well, you don’t make the save if you’re not dialed in and focused. That’s exactly what he is. He’s following the puck and just makes that save. It’s incredible really because you got to be athletic to be able to react that quickly. How did he stop that one? The goalender is very aware of where that puck is in that low slot area and defends his crease by getting out being aggressive and taking away any of the net. They go on the attack through center reaches out and uses the stick pass across. Triple seven beats it over with the stop and the puck stopper hangs on to get a breather here for the team. Puff ready to drop here any moment to get things underway again. Clock ticking down here inside the first period on a big time save on a big time shot. Kazar’s won the draw. there on the attack with a blast. Makes the save on the stopper. Takes it across the blue line. Here’s a short pass to Kane. Delayed penalty coming up here by the official. All right, there’s the end of period number one. We’ll take a breather, a recharge. The players will, too. And we’re coming back with period number two right after this. Just a reminder to always keep your eye on the buck if you enter the seating area and cause serious injury. Chicago sending their power play unit out for the first time tonight. Well, it’s time to be opportunistic on the power play here, James. You have an opportunity to get the equalizer. It all starts with the face off, though. You want to get to your set spots right away and attack the net. Battle on that loose pucker on the boards. Takes the feed moving in. The Blackhawks looking against the half wall. He scores off the pipe and bolting the twine. Well, it’s a game of inches, isn’t it? And this time those inches, they work in his favor. They go right into the net. That’s a beautiful finish, but I’m telling you, he’s got to go over to his teammate and say, “Thank you very much for that beautiful pass.” I mean, it was placed perfectly on his stick. He didn’t have much time to react, but he could collect it and he found a way to put it home. Chicago’s been right there with them all night long. And look at this. We’ve got the equalizing goal. Yeah, that counter punch was something James to be able to get the equalizer. You can see the excitement on the bench. That’s going to provide a lot of energy in the second period. Will going to play it to the corner. That’s intercepted. Bess is taking it from his own end. Play is blown dead with the offside. Lots of time left in this period. It’s all tied up. get a hold of the draw. Hughes setting up against the wall. He scores him in front. This is a fantastic save, James. He’s all over it. What I mean by that is he knows exactly where it is and where it’s moving. A reason why he can get square to it and make the save. Nice flash save. Has to give this team some momentum. I mean, that’s a point blank chance that he’s able to take away. just very aggressive and assertive in his crease. Moments away from the faceoff. Let’s get back to the action. The Conucks win the draw now. Let’s see what they can do with it. Here’s a shot. Oh, it stayed out. It stayed out. What a save. Well, that’s all Will and this is going to elevate his team. No question about it, James. I mean, it was all but in and then he comes from nowhere to make that save. The Canucks have it against the wall and he’s pulled over to the ice and loses the puck. Vancouver’s got the puck inside the defensive zone. Oh, they’ll be forced to start over from Sutter as the puck leaves the zone. Vancouver’s got a hold of it against the wall. Moves it quickly over to Patter. working the puck deep inside their own end. Quick pass to Holander with some open space here in the neutral zone and they’ll dump it in. The Blackhawks gain possession here. They come up along the wing. Gets the puck in deep. Vancouver’s got the puck. Slides it diagonally to Dressa with the save. moves the pass in front and it carries off a scores. It’s in the back of the net. Oh, wait a second here. I don’t think this is going to count. James Official pays it off right away and got to wonder whether it was tipped redirected off of the skate or whether there was a kicking motion. So, two distinct things here. If you kick or make that move, the forward motion of your foot towards the net, it will be a no goal. But if it’s redirected, that’s fine. That big thing that you don’t want to hurt the messenger while the officials coming out on the ice and this is going to be a confirmed call. It’s going to stand on the ice. This is a disallowed goal. The Conucks win possession here in the open ice. looking to make something happen in the offensive zone from the right side. Takes the pass. The Blackhawks were played from the corner. Versy has it in the defensive end. Here’s a shot. Oh, they stopped that rocket in front and a stoppage on the play as the goalender covers things up. Getting closer to the halfway point of this frame. You can feel the energy in this crowd. It’s a tie game. Play resumes here as he wins the draw inside the offensive zone. There’s a collision. Feeds it on over to Murphy. Broken up at center by Kane. Puck scooped up by Bard. Goes right to the crease. Oh, the left save. Where’d that come from? Past the halfway mark of this period. We got a tie game. The Conucks get a hold of the puck in their own end. And he takes the pass. Taken by Laferty. Oh, what a stop. The Powski control the puck against the wall and sends it just out of reach. Fires it on Nick. Oh, what a save on the slapper. Look out. Gives him nothing in front. You see goenders working on reaction time all the time. Why? For shots like this, you just have to react. It’s instincts that make the save. Faceoff looming as both centers get into position. And they’ll start with possession. Oh, gives up the body as he lays out for the block. What a selfless play. Hands the call with a big save. Rogers won the face off here in the offensive zone. Shots him down. You know the goalie dials in and he redirects the puck to the corner. The Canucks get a hold of the puck along the boards from the neutral zone now along the half wall with the puck. Here’s a chance behind the net. Tries to feed it over to Hughes. And there’s a club save on the play. Knight’s been dominant in the crease tonight. He’s turned away a lot of high danger shots. He’s really found a way to build some momentum for his team. Give him a real opportunity to win. Patterson’s won the draw here and they’ve won the attack. And they’ll cover it up forcing a stoppage in play. More than half the frame has been played here. The next goal could be a big one as we are tied. Swamps off the wing to grab the puck after the center and tie him up. Quick pass across to Dano. Great defensive effort with the strip. Uses the force on that hit. Chicago’s gained possession. Hawk hops out of the offensive zone. They’ll be forced to do it over from center. Donado’s got it against the boards. Makes it look easy with the stop here in the late going to the frame. We are all tied up in this one. Vancouver’s got the puck after winning the defensive zone faceoff through the neutral zone now picking up steam. The Blackhawks get a hold of the puck right up and on the attack. Oh, tremendous reflexes with the kick save. These are the small space skills that some of these athletes have nowadays. They work on it continuously in practice, but to maintain possession while you’re being jostled and shoved around, it’s incredible to see the hand eye coordination and the balance in this sequence to take it to the net. What save made by Knight and they’ll get a breather as the goender covers it up. Officials have got both teams ready and it looks like play set to resume here. Second intermission approaching quickly here for moving the puck through his own zone. Moves it to Nazar in front. Grabbed along the boards by Meyers. Great poke by Bulger. Beautiful read in the defensive end by Moore. There it is. That’s a wrap for period number two. Both teams will get a chance to get a little breather here and we’ll come back. Third period action next. If you want to show us your accuracy, register now for our shoot to win contest where one lucky man will shoot a puck from center of ice to try and win an exciting prize. The moment of truth has arrived for both these teams. Third period action set to go. This one still deadlocked as we are now underway here in the third. Denies the slapper. Scoops up along the wall by Penderson. Blocked in front. Puck grabbed by Dano looking to make something happen at center. Picked up along the wall by Barowski. Patterson scooped up the puck now here inside his own zone. Let’s get the call. The guard has been flagged for crosschecking. Now, this is such an obvious call for the official undisiplined. Once the arms extend, you’re going to get the cross-checking call. Vancouver’s man advantage unit will take to the ice for the first time tonight. Well, everyone’s fresh as they come out for their first power play of the game. They’re going to have to find a way to really manipulate the defenders, move that puck around, but it will all start with winning the focus center along the way. They put the puck into the offensive end. Pushes it across to quick feed to Ratu. Here’s a shot. Turns it aside and loses possession after a solid hit. Gets a piece of it with the glove. Chicago’s got the puck short-handed. And they clear that puck. Here’s a short pass to Ratu. Gets the full use of his stick on the poke check. Chicago’s got it against the boards. Whacks it into the offensive zone. Slides it over to Kane. K. Keep a hold of it. And now it’s over to Ratu. Moves for the chick. Stopped by the goender. Oh, what a smart heads up play. Beautiful feed up ahead from the right wing side. Nice job to escape the zone and he jumps out of the sin bit here. Back to even strike. Solid effort by the penalty killing unit here. I really like what this PK unit has done and James in my experience I know what it’s like to be out there and it’s high game. You want to execute your role to the best of your ability. You know what it’s like to go down by one and it’s really deflating when it happens on a PK. to finding how to do it. Getting it done. That’s a smart heads up defensive play by Kaiser. And that’s a smart heads up play by Bernard. Works it across to Dano. Forces the turnover in the neutral zone. Takes the puck at the point. Stopped it with the pow. Wow. He does a great job of having sound positional play based on where the puck is on that low inner spot. He makes himself big. takes away the holes and makes a save. Feeds the puck to Sherwood. Oh, excellent use of the stick as he knocks that one away from a tough angle. Just a simple save by Knight. Taken along the wall by O’ Conor. Battle along the wall. Shot tipped. Stopped by the goalender. Deno has been a perfect example of how it’s quality over quantity and recognizing the key timeliness to making a big save and how it can be such an energy booster and momentum swinger for your team. I mean he has been on point tonight. He has been dialed in and he has really controlled his crease. They’ll be looking to keep that momentum going here in the faceoff. After that last shift, James, were they really pressed? They want to continue right there. Get pucks to the net because this goalender will not want to battle net friend. He’s out worked already. Passes it to Nazar. He carries the puck up along the wing. Moves it quickly over to Patterson. And now he angles it across to De Bruss. Drop in the neutral zone by Nazar. Oh, he comes up with a stop. opted to hang on to the puck for a face off. Such an impressive save, James. I love to look at these ones again because it’s not just being in great position. It’s being desperate. It’s finding a way to get to the puck, keeping your eye on it at all times, tracking it, out battling, and outwilling everyone around you. More than half the period has gone by. Hope you’re enjoying this one. It’s all tied up. sneaks away with the puck after he was tangled up on the draw. Look at that hit. Let’s get physical. Slides it on over to Terrain. Chicago’s on the attack. The Canucks scoop it up along the boards. Good pass to Martusi. The Canucks gain possession in their own end. Puck picked up by Kchinsky. They gain the zone from the left side. Moves it to Holdlander. Slides the puck over. And he had the answer on that one. I’ll tell you what, James, that ain’t incidental contact. That was intentional. Certainly trying to really drive that body and separate the player from Puck. The centerman glide into position. Slides in off the wing after the centerman tied him up and now it’s grabbed by Garland. Comes up with a stop and he gets the one too low. did a great job of tracking the puck out one but two consecutive saves and he hits one of his own teammates with that shot passed up ahead look to start the transition game feeds it over to Garland quick feed to Person can’t get a hold of that pass Chicago’s got possession here in the neutral zone and now it’s to Kaiser and a smart heads up play Put that away by Kane. Good hit. The Conucks played along the boards. Went for the dirty tangle and goes sideways. And someone’s going off here as the ref’s hand goes high in the air and he’s taken down the officials arm signaling for a penalty. Chicago’s got the puck against the half wall. Whistle blow stopping the play. Well, what a tumultuous turn of events here, James. They take the first penalty. They can’t settle down. And now multiple calls on the play. I expect that they’ll go with the exact same formation that they were successful on earlier, James. An umbrella power play set where you have three up high and really you’re using the top of the offensive zone. You want to draw the coverage out. Then you can look for crossings and perhaps die down and really attack the net. I really loved his game tonight here, James. Let’s have a look at some highlights of his game. I mean, he’s been outstanding with and without the puck, creating scoring chances for his linemates. Just look at the way he uses his hands to deak around his opponent to get to the net. It hasn’t come yet, but you got to figure he’s going to get on the score sheet soon. Blueers gliding in for the faceoff as this penalty kill will continue. Back underway and they take possession here inside the offensive zone and he gets it. Scores. Put in the special and special teams. They take the lead. And often when you’re on special teams, James, it can go either way in terms of the momentum. If you don’t generate anything, it goes the other way. If you generate something, it’s all in your favor. I’ll tell you what, that was execution. That’s a hard shot. The goalender looks like he was just getting to position. Gets a piece of it, but it still goes in. The Blackhawks with a huge goal here in this third period. Now, buckle up and can they hang on? Oh, I think it’s more than hanging on, James. They got to continue to attack and they’ve got to manage the puck. I mean, yes, it’s the third period. There’s a lot of runway left here. It’s only a onegoal game. Here’s a short pass to Herona. Both sides digging into that puck along the wall. Demco still going to hang on to the puck for a whistle. Kyle James. I mean, not everyone can elicit a Thunderous hit like that. I mean, he just clobbered his opponent. Patterson’s ready for the draw as they continue to be short-handed here. The Blackhawks win the draw. The Powels get a hold of the puck under man and he feeds it down to Patterson into the offensive end right up the middle. The lane was plucked up and that shot’s blocked. Retrieves the puck. Trying to kickstart this power play. Receives the pass. Back to the point. They set it up. Ahead of steam now towards the front and it fades off a stick in traffic. Approaching the final 60 seconds of this one. moves it quickly over to Carabin and that’s broken up by Person. The Blackhawks have it from their own end. The Canucks with a huge penalty kill there. They’re trailing in this game, James. This was a huge kill. They couldn’t lose touch of the game and they did an awesome job of killing that off. The Canucks have pulled the goender here. They got the extra attacker out on the ice in hopes of a goal. Finish as he puts it off the post. think this is lack of awareness and knowing exactly how much time you have and where you are on the ice. He had a wide open net and just misses. Good use of the body on the play. Angles it over to Murphy moving forward on the boards. The Canucks have it now. Handles the puck from the left side. the empty net and into the wide open cage. It’s an empty net goal. And a sigh of relief as well as it’s a real insurance marker. You put it in the empty cage and you don’t ice it. That’s a good thing. On the dying moments of the game, they get the empty net, James. And that’s just a result of having urgency, making sure they protect the middle of the ice. And hey, they get it down the ice and get the empty netter to boot. And they’ll drop the puck one more time before this thing concludes. That’s all she wrote from this one. Well, they certainly put the special in special teams tonight, Cheryl. The power play was the difference tonight, James. I mean, they kept their feet moving, so they drew penalties, and that’s exactly what you want to do. But you have to find a way to capitalize, and they made some slight adjustments, which enabled them to take the puck to the net, and it showed. Hope you had as much fun as we did bringing you the action here. From all of us at EA Sports, I’m James Sabolski. Peace.
