The Brenden Rice New England Patriots SIGNING Adds IMPORTANT Depth… | Patriots News |

The New England Patriots have made an intriguing signing that I think tells us that Kahan Boute will be missing at least sometime. Kyle Williams will probably have a much more expanded role into the offense, but they have added the son of Jerry Rice, Brendan Rice. Now, he is a seventhround draft pick out of USC back in 2024 to the LA Chargers. Has not played in the regular season uh pretty much at all. uh has no catches in the regular season, but three in the preseason right here. And we’re going to break down some film. Obviously, there’s only three catches in his career in preseason. So, it it’s not going to be a long video by any means, so stay tuned. We’ll look at some stats here, but this first play is going to be out of 21 personnel. You got two backs in the back field, one tight end, and we’re noticing here that they are giving him inside leverage. You see how the inside foot of the DB is on the outside foot of Brendon Rice? Well, that basically tells us that they’re giving us the inside. So, we’re going to be running a quick slant over the middle of the field off this little play fake to the running back. So, as DJU sends a little bit someone pre- snap motion, we are going to boom. Actually, they don’t even play fake. They just literally drop back. And also a good thing here, this guy rotates over. But once he rotates over, we know this is man coverage. There’s no one helping on this side of the field, which kind of makes this a yes, no read. So, as the quarterback drops back in the pocket, looks left, scans right, throws the ball early, good catch, picks up 13 yards. Not bad. Not bad. Again, he hasn’t really proven anything. Okay, so I do want to put out a disclaimer saying, listen, yes, he could end up being a solid player. Will he? No clue. No idea. No idea. I mean, there’s literally no evidence that supports him saying he could even be a starter in the NFL. Uh, still a lot to learn, still a lot to do. And the good thing about the Patriots is they have a lot of depth at wide receiver. Eftton Chisum, Kyle Williams, right? They have guys. So, I’m sure we’ll see and hear a little bit more about him. I don’t think he’ll be a game changer by any means. Not right away. Another easy play here is going to be towards the top of our screen. First thing that we notice on this play is once again they’re in off coverage. They’re giving him about seven yards of separation and outside leverage. We’re going to get a route vertical trying to get these uh DBs and these linebackers to play in a soft coverage. And we’re just running this quick little in route over the middle of the field through space. Again, our job here, our goal is to get these guys to play in a soft zone coverage. So, attack the seams early. That’s exactly what we do as these guys back up, right? You can tell they’re in his own coverage. Ball needs to be out early on time as this guy continues to backpedal. Boom. Catch the ball in stride. Turn up the field. There’s another 12 12 yd gain. Again, it’s not really too much to break down. He was decent preseason. Had three catches. And Tre Lance was under pressure here. But I want to hear from you guys. What do you think about this signing? I actually want to take a look at the depth chart really quickly. When we take a look at the roster or the depth chart right now, Bootsie is a little bit injured. Again, we don’t know the severity of it, but we do know he could miss time. You have M. Collins, who is a really solid run blocker, but also can catch the football as well. You have Diggs, Kyle Williams, and Effan Chisum are both rookies. And then you have Demario Douglas. So, I would say you have three guys that you really like if Bouty is out. And then yeah, definitely need a little bit of depth here. So it seems like I don’t think they would make this move unless Booty was missing time. Now on the practice squad, do they have they have Jeremiah Web who I guess they don’t like enough to make the the guy to come up. They have John Giles as well. Um, so again, it does look like they wanted to go outside the organization to add a player, which means they like Brennan Rice enough to call him up over those other guys in the practice squad. Monday Night Football is going to be amazing tonight. I think Buffalo’s going to go up early. So, let’s look at his line of 115 and a half rushing and receiving um yards. And I’m going to go more than just 100. I think he’s going to catch the football a ton in this football game. I also like Josh Allen rushing, but I’m going to keep it at 25 and a half. Go more than 25. I think that’s fair. Um, you know, the Chicago Bears run defense is not very good at all. We’re going to go to rushing yards, and I’m going to put it at 50. More than 50 rushing yards. I think that’s another one that’s pretty fair. Pretty fair. Um, one more. I want to go Kyle Pittz. Darnell Mooney, I believe, is out today. I could be wrong, but 25 receiving yards more than I feel like is pretty fair. So, Bejon rush receiving. Uh, Josh Allen rushing. Jakori 50. Kyle Pittz 25 plus. I feel like that’s fair. They pretty much have a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense. I mean, not even pretty much. It is. They have a top seven offense, top seven defense when it comes to points allowed and points scored per game. Love that. Right. 12th in the NFL in yards per game. The offense eighth in touchdowns per game, fifth in touchdowns allowed per game. Right. This this team is exactly where they need to be. Could be a little bit better on the in the running game. Uh but when it comes to just overall performance, I like where they are right now. Um now there are some things they need to clean up overall in this team. red zone scoring percentage allowed. They’re 32nd. I mean, if a team gets in the red zone, they’re probably scoring on the Patriots, but still, their defense is not bad. They’re probably one of the best run defenses in football right now. That is something that stands out to me. One thing that I don’t love is this number right here, 31 in QB sack percentage. They are allowing Drake May to get sacked a lot this year. Um, so definitely want to fix that a little bit. But in terms of just adding another receiver to this roster, I I think it makes sense due to the injury of Bouty. And um this is this is a not even not only a playoff contender, but maybe even a championship contender. If you have a top five offense and a top five defense, yeah, that is a championship contender. Obviously, still a lot of work that needs to be done. And then one more route, one more catch by him. Nice little in route versus a little bit of off coverage. Got to be careful about this throw just in case linebacker rotates over quickly. Um but actually a good read. Linebackers kind of mess up. They rotate last second. Balls out on time. We find him. Pick up seven yards. Not too shabby. Again, I don’t and I’m not expecting the world out of Brennan Rice. He’s got some potential obviously as a seventh round draft pick.
