Wow, it sure is fun being a Cubs fan. Really revved up for next season!

  1. Say what you will about Tucker, Shota, and Kittredge, but it sure is becoming apparent those newfound funds won’t be going towards players of greater or equal value!

  2. This organization has NEVER been known to target top free agent relievers. Some of yall get upset just to be upset. If you paid any attention to this team other than when they make the playoffs, you would know they don’t operate like this. (Unless a player falls to them)

The philosophy is that it’s a bad expense to allocate funds for a position that is so volatile. I saw this headline and just knew someone would be upset in our sub and sure enough.

  3. Really hurts to see this. How can anybody hate the dodgers when they do what we want our front office to do?

I do trust we will field a competitive team but certainly not a team that will get us deep into the playoffs.

  4. You guys gotta understand.. the Ricketts are trying to break even. They have to keep food on the table just like all of us.

  5. our best relievers in 25 were a minor league deal, a modest ~3 million dollar signing, a guy who triggered an upward mobility clause, and a minimum contract. not gonna worry about this.

you don’t have fun as a cubs fan? that’s fucking sad!!!!

  6. We do this every year. Its fine. RP are volatile as hell. They need to open the checkbook for starters and a bat. They’ll dabble in cheaper RP and have a good pen like they always do. They shouldn’t have traded Kittridge though but I’m sure whoever they get to replace him will be fine. Danny P and Ben Brown are the only BP arms right now from last year.

  7. Let me clarify that headline – the Cubs won’t be going after the top free agents at any position.

Tom and the Ricketts family thanks you for your continued support.

  8. Cubs did that the last 2 years and signed/traded for big money RP and Dfa’d them in the middle of the season. It doesn’t mean big money rp will fail again, but also no guarantee they will be good

  9. Looking forward to the comments defending the decision and kicking the boots of our billionaire owner cheapskates

  10. This response reminds me of all the idiots who buy teams in the EPL and think they can run it like a business to make operational profits. It can be done, but it doesn’t really work. There are entire books on that subject. The endgame for the smart ones is to win championships and then sell the team in totality with the assets at a billion or more higher.

Hilariously, we don’t even have that problem. We could spend more and field a better team on paper without being in the red.

Not everything is a profit driver in the traditional sense. They will easily make profits through their holdings company outside the stadium with a better team, and none of that falls under the cap. Like wtf is their deal? Just greediness in general?

  11. Some of you set yourselves up for failure and feeling miserable by reading into every headline that comes out during the offseason. It’s pathetic. Do you really think Jed, Tom, etc are telling reporters their blueprint for the offseason?

  12. Losing Shota will hurt. It’s not his fault a brewer fucked his shit up overworking him. I hope enjoys getting a ring with LA. ❤️

  13. Guys stop complaining why compete when we can be slightly above average year in year out. Just think about the Rickets how are they ever going to be able to survive if they spend any money. This economy is hard for everyone including billionaires

But let’s be real they know no matter what team they put out there fans are gonna show up and spend money so why does it matter to them

  14. They believe they can scrap together a bullpen on the fly on the cheap. Sometimes that approach works well (2025) sometimes it explodes spectacularly (2023, other years I don’t care to recall). It’s a gamble but given his budget maybe Jed is reasonable in deciding that a low-budget bullpen provides savings he needs to pocket in order to spend the finite budget he’s given elsewhere. Wish we could do both (open up the wallet on the bullpen and elsewhere).

  15. Looks like there will be a lockout in December of next year when the players’ contract expires. We might not have baseball in ’27. That’s probably the reason why.

  16. The pitch lab is sound. I’m not worried about top relievers as long as that money actually gets allocated to other TOP positions.

  17. Next year is going to be a throwaway in prep for the lockout… but that doesn’t mean we can’t still root for our team even if the business end of things could make a mess of the season…

  18. Anyone who has been paying even a modicum of attention will realize that Ricketts is not going to spend one extra dime than he has to for 2026. That’s just the way it is and, that’s exactly who he is at his core.

We don’t necessarily have a Jed problem with this team. We have a Ricketts problem with this team. It’s the owner.

  19. Guys Jed clearly stated that our goal is to be a 90 win team. We missed that goal by 2 games which is completely unacceptable. I expect we’ll go into this off-season with the goal of winning two fewer games. To do that, we’ll obviously have to remove talent from our roster.

  20. Stop being so had in them!!

There’s still a lot of property to buy up in the neighborhood…

  21. Losing Tucker, losing Imanaga, won’t spend to improve the penmprove so you can bet we won’t spend for Cease.

Maybe a middling journeyman starter and/or utility guy. That’s about it

  22. Why are you surprised……there’s been talk of this all season long especially because of looming lockout. Truly pathetic what Cubs ownership is doing to us fans.

  23. What’s new the owners of the Cubs usually are cheap skates and sell, trade or releases the best players.

  24. Only big city market team to not pay out the income that the owners just pockets themselves.

  25. For all of you that go to CubsCon can you BOOOOOOOOO Jed and the Ricketts off the stage?

  26. Why pursue top free agents when there are plenty of 38 year old pitchers that should have been given the ol yeller treatment years ago? We all know those are Jed’s favorite. I’m 40, and I know there are things I should no longer do at this age, including male modeling and pitching for an MLB team.

  27. Does op realize that the world series only ended a few days ago? Why get so worked up about stuff that may or may not happen? Does it benefit you to make posts like this? Do you think Jed is going through reddit trying to get your opinions?

  28. It’s gonna be all one year deals.

Free agency is going to be lame as hell this year because the owners are planning on a lockout.

  29. Hey go to cubs con and boo rockets the entire time. Or just don’t go. Stop giving money to an owner who won’t use it to make the team better.
