Were y’all excited when we signed Anthony R*ndon in 2019?

  1. Not excited, but cautiously optimistic. He had a couple good years and I had hope that he could keep improving….so much for that.

  2. Yes very. And even after years of him not playing and injured I still rooted for him. But it’s hard to root for the guy when he does interviews and seems like he doesn’t care. But gladly takes all the money.

  3. Anybody saying no is lying. He was coming off some monster seasons. If he even gave us 2/3 of what he was capable of…

  4. We had just missed out on Cole so people were bummed but Rendon was still at the top of all the best 3B lists being put out so there was a lot of hype. Hindsight is 20/20.

  5. On one hand yes, because 3rd has been a hole in our lineup for a while. On the other hand it felt really reactionary to not signing Cole, and was frustrating that we still did not have a true ace

  6. Big time! Guy was so clutch and reliable for the Nats. Not to mention had a huge part in them winning a championship.

  7. Tbh, I wasn’t even a fan then. I only became a fan midway thru the 2023 season. I kept hearing about a Japanese dude stroking monster dongs seemingly every other day. 🙄

  8. Actually, I wasn’t – there was always a bit of a cloud around him, even from his early days with the Nats, where it was implied he was a bit of a malinger, always nicked and unable to play.

He got that sorted and put up the stats – but never got the idea his teammates liked him. Came off as self-absorbed and arrogant.

So, I wasn’t “excited” – more 50:50 I hoped he’d continue his production, but worried he’d be a poor teammate.

  9. Honestly I was kinda bummed, and this isn’t some revisionist take with 20/20 hindsight, but I was wishing we would get some good starting pitching. I didn’t want another Pujols, Hamilton, Cozart situation.

I am way more bummed now.

  10. I was still kinda delusional that the FO was capable of making good signings at the time, and that they were just unlucky in the past. So yeah, I was excited.

  11. Yes because we signed a star player at a position we had been hurting at for a few years.

But also no because it was a sign that the team was again not going after the biggest weakness which was pitching, again

  12. I’m not sure they could’ve signed any big free agent that off-season that would’ve made me excited, given the team’s track record. But it also didn’t seem like a huge risk compared to some previous signings.

  13. To the haters piling on, remember when Reid Detmers threw a no hitter and Tony 2 bags batted opposite side and smashed a HR anyway (off a position player) in a blowout win with the team looking like it could finally keep 1st place to put the team 21-11? Good times…

Injuries suck, Tony 2 bags was a good player. It was a bad contract only in hindsight because he had shown great health up until then but considering Arte seems to not give a fuck about player development and puts the onus on the players to figure their injuries and fitness on their own, there’s a common denominator and it ain’t the players he throws money at.

  14. At the time, absolutely. Was one of the biggest third basemen in the game, and we ABSOLUTELY needed 3b help. Still do.

  15. I was really hoping for Cole at the time but was still excited to see another solid bat with Trout and Ohtani. Oh well.

  16. Short answer is no. We were stacked with hitters already. We been needing pitching for YEARS!
