Kyler Murray on I.R. for at least 4 weeks | Is this the beginning of the end for him in Arizona? šŸ¤”

And more breaking NFL news. The Cardinals are placing quarterback Kyler Murray on the IR. He missed the past three games with a sprained foot and will now be sidelined for at least four more weeks. That means Jacobe Brassette will continue as the Cardinal starting quarterback. He’s one and two as Arizona starter this season, including Monday night’s win in Dallas against the Cowboys. All right, and some more breaking news out of the NFL. Kyler Murray being placed on IR for the Cardinals here. We’ve seen Kyler deal with injuries before, but ultimately DK, how do you feel about Kyler and his future in Arizona now that this is the situation? I think this is the the end of the road for Kyler Murray with the Arizona Cardinals. I think this is probably about, hey, let’s put him on IR so he can’t get hurt if he has to play again and then we don’t have any really opportunity to trade him potentially or, you know, or part ways with him. So, I think this is about a sign, significant sign that the Cardinals are about to go in a different direction. And and when I say trade him, I don’t know who’s going to take on his contract. So, I wonder if they just ripped the band-aid off and cut ties with Kyler Murray after the red flags were all over the place when he signed his new contract. Remember, there were stipulations in there about film study and everybody’s like, “What?” And then they took those out because they got criticized for doing it. Other quarterbacks didn’t have it in there. Kyler Murray is just a mercurial quarterback who’s been way too inconsistent both in staying healthy, but on the football field as well. And when you have early in your career your work habits, your study habits questioned, I do think I think that was a great sign for the future. I just wonder if Kyler Murray, if he’s one of those quarterback who he lost his opportunity, now he lost his job, if he gets another chance somewhere else, can he revive his career? But I do think this is the end of the road for the Arizona Cardinals in K Murray. I really didn’t know the definition of material. I had to look it up. Did I hit it right? Good. Uh, subject to sudden or unpredictable changes of mood or mind. very good, which I I think is fair to say about Kyler Murray. Yeah. And really quickly though, Jacobe Brassette, he is stepping in one and2 as a starter. What do you make of the Cardinal season that they’re sitting at three and five, bomb of the division with Jacobe Brassette under center? Probably the same as we were just talking about the Texans, but I do think Jacobe Brassette is a guy who’s been around the game for a long time. I think you can kind of rely on him. And that’s why I think even if Kyler Murray would have been healthy, I think there was an opportunity that Jacobe Brassette might have just been the starter the rest of the season. Again, I alluded to Kyler Murray. They didn’t want him to get hurt further. And I don’t think it was about protecting him for the future of the team. I think it was more about, hey, let’s make sure we don’t lose somebody we might be parting ways with. So, I think it’s a good opportunity for Jacobe Passet. He’s been a journeyman, but he can run the offense. He’s capable of potentially, you know, winning some games for him. It’s a long shot for them to fight all the way back in the playoff picture, but I don’t think it’s that devastating of a loss. Let me ask you this just because I am a a Sooner homer and I I care about Kyler Murray. What’s what’s left for him? So that’s why I mean we’ve seen several quarterbacks even currently guys like Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, Baker Mayfield. Yes. Sometimes it does take you losing something to realize what you have. And that’s why I don’t know if Kyler Murray’s ever fully appreciated how lucky he is to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL. Like when I see a young player who’s playing more video games than he is spending time watching film, that’s what I think. And I was a guy that was like that. I didn’t know what I had until it was gone. And you’ve heard Baker mention that. You’ve hear these other quarterbacks realize it. So unless Kyler Murray wakes up and realizes what it takes to be a franchise quarterback by being the first guy in, by being the leader in the building, by studying extra film, by staying after, by getting really involved in the game plan. I don’t know if he’s ever going to get it. But you do wonder if it’s taken from him, does he wake up and realize it? He’s already got an uphill battle, though. He’s not the biggest guy. I mean, he’s even he’s the smallest of all these quarterbacks we’ve talked about, the smallest first round quarterback we’ve ever seen taken. But he’s still a dynamic runner with the football, which ironically is the reason why he didn’t need to study films because he said, “I can just make plays.” But that is not a long-term plan for a franchise quarterback in the NFL. So, I think he’s got to get it. Like, it’s got to click for him. And sometimes the only way to learn that lesson is the really hard way until it’s gone. He’s still pretty young, only 28 years old, which uh feels like he’s older than that. But either way, maybe it’s just how long he’s been in the league. Danny Canel, we appreciate your time there. Breaking news on the NFL. Both CJ Strad uh dealing with a concussion. He will not be playing Sunday against the Jags and Kyler Murray placed on IR. Speaking of the Cardinals, taking on the Seahawks at 4:05 Eastern on CBS.

Danny Kanell joins CBS Sports HQ to react to Kyler Murray being placed on the I.R. for at least 4 more weeks.

  1. Sure. I’m sure it is IR and not because of 5’7 guy running around the field like a blind dog in a meat house. Telling receivers and TE to play on his time.

  2. Kyler Murray was overhyped coming out of college. He is super overrated as a pro. And every time somebody looks at him crossways, he goes on IR. He is too small to play quarterback in the NFL and as long as he is the starting quarterback for Arizona, they will be nothing more than mediocre.
