🔥🚨BEARS MAKE A HUGE SIGNING || CJ GARDNER JOHNSON HYBRID DB 🚨🔥

[Music] Ryan Ples has made a big move as the Bears have signed the safety who was tied for the league lead in interceptions in 2022 and added another six interceptions last year. A hybrid defensive back, not just a safety, a guy who spent more than half of his career snaps playing Nickelback and guarding slot receivers. CJ Gardner Johnson is now a Chicago Bear. Dennis Allen is reuniting with one of his former defensive backs. A big move by the Bears, signing a hybrid defensive back that can play all over the secondary. Last year, he played with the Philadelphia Eagles and helped them win a Super Bowl. Chanty Gardner Johnson, also nicknamed CD Deuce, is the newest member of the Bears secondary. The reason this guy was available is because he got hurt in training camp. After winning his Super Bowl with the Eagles last year, he was traded to the Houston Texans for guard Kenyan Green. Initially, he was expected to be a big part of that Texans defense, but he suffered a major knee injury in August, and the team initially feared that he tore his ACL. However, his ACL was fine, but the Texans did decide to cut him before the regular season started. Now CD Deuce is fully healthy and he’s ready to play football again. He’s now reunited with the coach that drafted him, Dennis Allen. He spent his first three years of his career in New Orleans before he got traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. The reason he was traded initially is because him and the Saints were unable to agree on a contract extension. After being traded though, he led the league in interceptions despite missing four games. He’s been a valuable member of the secondary for the Eagles two of the last three years. He did spend 2023 with the Detroit Lions, but a torn pectoral muscle cost him most of the season. CD Deuce, welcome to Chicago. And one of the crazier parts of the story, some of you might remember Gardner Johnson as the guy that Javon Whims punched in the face in a playoff game. He is a guy that gets under the skin of his opponents. He talks a lot of trash and he can play all over the secondary. This is a guy who’s going to come in and be an instant upgrade and should play right away. This is not the typical Ryan Poles signing trying to find diamonds in the rough. This is an established player who is going to be an instant upgrade. He’s a starting caliber player who is healthy and ready to contribute right away. He’s only 27 years old and in the prime of his career. He will turn 28 in December, but he has plenty of football left in his tank. He’s a guy with 18 career interceptions, 51 pass breakups, 15 quarterback hits, and 22 tackles for loss. Over his career, he’s made his money being a hybrid defender who can move all over the defense. And he started doing that as a youngster playing for Dennis Allen. He’s not just a safety. Over the last 3 years, he spent most of his time at free safety and nickel corner, but he has averaged over 1,500 snaps a year at playing in a nickelback. On top of that, Dennis Allen likes to give three safety looks. So, this is a guy who can be our third safety when Dennis Allen rolls out those defenses, and he can take over as our primary slot corner until Kyler Gordon returns. Dennis Allen used him in a hybrid role and would move him around a lot. He has a ton of position flexibility and versatility, but more than that, this guy is a ball hawk and a playmaker that instantly upgrades the secondary if healthy. He’s also a reliable tackler and he brings physicality to the defense, a guy with high football intelligence. He brings energy and swagger to whatever team he plays for. He’s a guy with high energy. He’s confident and he’s a trashtalking defensive back. He bullies less confident players on offense and he can get in guys heads. He’s also relentless and a tough leader of a defense. This is the kind of guy who can motivate our entire defense and make them play better. Nick Serriani, the coach of the Eagles, said this guy plays with a winner’s mentality and some have even credited him for bringing an edge to that Eagles defense and for helping them win a Super Bowl. This is a big signing by Ryan Poles, but it could mean that Kyler Gordon isn’t expected back anytime soon. Hopefully, we can get Kyler back as well. But this move does signal that the Bears want to win now and that Ryan Poles might be aggressive heading into the trade deadline. Could another move be on the horizon? That’s something to keep an eye on. But pairing Gardenner Johnson with Jaquan Brisker and Kevin Bard should be a big boost to our secondary and help negate some of the injuries that have devastated our quarterback position.   4. @swiftsportsnetwork You showed that CJ GJ played 1836 snaps at nickle last year and at the 3:07 mark, you stated that he AVERAGED 1500 snaps a year at nickle. That's similar to saying he averaged 20 INTs per year.
    NFL defenses do not average that many plays per year, so those numbers are literally impossible. Where did you find those snap count numbers?

  9. Sounds like he's got talent, but he's been accused of being a bit of a locker room issue by both Philadelphia and Houston. Let's hope DA and BJ can keep him from being a distraction. Goodness knows we can use the help in the secondary right now!

    Basically the point is he has played the MAJORITY of his snaps at NICKLEBACK, SLOT Corner.

  14. I can see him going to CB when Gordan is healthy again, having him and Stevenson out there while JJ is laid up is a good thing. Now they need to get an edge that can actually play to remove some of that double team from Sweat since the DT position cannot do it.

I thought ryan poles was into intergity clean players 2025, he was arrested on a felony charge of assaulting a family member and impeding breath circulation. This incident was followed by a positive alcohol test, which violated his release conditions, and he was reportedly held in jail overnight

  21. Also has had a number of off field issues with his other teams and complaints about his attitude and on field role. Hopefully he won't be a problem in the locker room.

  24. 😮I can see how this kind of guy bringing the kind of energy you describe may be exactly the vitamin this Defense needs to at least have moments of swagger and antagonism igniting the playmakers necessary to keep the defensive alive on the road against a solid 30 point offense. The Bears have a Dline that needs things going on behind them that buys an extra second for the pass rush to land if they are also going to worry about the run.

    Bears Offense coming in again with a 30 point cover charge to play. Gonna be that way from now on. It's why I liked this impossible schedule. It's the only way to beat out other teams in the division and what I'm sayin is gonna beat the Packers twice.

    NFC West gonna take 2 of the three wild cards this year if things continue. So pushing the team to score points now and win by scoring is the right kind of medicine they need.

    NFC no longer in the back seat regarding scoring points. You wanna play, it's gonna cost points. Get em or go home.

    And Coach of the 'not very Special Teams' gotta stop giving field position away in the game. You going to kick to the left corner, get some bodies over there that don't get blocked. Giving away the 40 yard line after a score is as serious as any penalty the offense makes to stop a series.

  31. He isn't horrible outside, but this is our Nickle now. He's good when the game is in front of him, if it gets behind him tho it can be ugly. He needs Safety help if guys go deep. Nickle you don't have to worry about that as much. And yeah he would be great as our 3rd Safety.

  35. I like this move a lot. I keep pounding the table for Asante Samuel Jr if he gets cleared to play. Both of these players are high upside low investment/rental moves in my opinion that may vie for a long term role if they play well. I’d love to see us go after a more impactful DE but idk if that’s possible at this point

  36. He has to be better than Mcloud and Wright but we are still real weak on defense. There was alot of guys out today at practice. I hope that we get at least Stevenson back but it doesn’t look good.

  39. He sounds like a guy both Brisker and Byard will welcome with open arms. His kind of Nasty, this Whole team can use if theycan feed off his edge. Somebody needs to stick up fir these guys.. way too soft and Cerebral for the wars they hVe ahead of them.
