You Won’t BELIEVE What Mike Borgonzi Had To Say About The Titans After The NFL Trade Deadline

[Music] Happy post NFL trade deadline everybody. And Mike Borghanszi went to the podium earlier today and spoke to the media talking about everything that the Titans were doing from the trades that they’ve made from the future of the Tennessee Titans and so on and so forth. And of course, you would not believe what he said. And it kind of was the best press conference that we have heard Mike Boronzi speak during this abysmal 1 and8 season. Welcome into Titans today by chat sports. I am your host Brett Alper. And a couple of news just before we get into breaking down exactly what Mike Borggoni has said during that press conference. But according to Tom Pelisero at about 306 central time, the Titans claimed safety Jerick Reed off of waiverss from Seattle. and Reed was waved Tuesday to make room for wide receiver Rasheed Shahid who was acquired from the New Orleans Saints and he’s a safety. I think that the Titans should have gotten a cornerback in secondary, but Jerick Reed, he wasn’t really playing a lot of safety for Seattle. He was playing mostly special teams. So, the Titans saw that and having the number one spot as the waiver, you could easily get that player. But, let’s talk about the Titans as a whole. You saw their 2025 record is 1 and8 and that’s the big thing that I’m going to talk about the salary cap. You don’t have much but with Tennessee Draymond Jones is heading to Baltimore and we kind of thought the fire sale was going but they did not make a single move on Tuesday the day of the NFL trade deadline. Now, when Mike Borghansi spoke at the podium, he spoke for 27 minutes on multiple topics, and we’re going to go over four major topics that he discussed talking during that press conference and what exactly he said. Multiple quote graphics, so bear with me here. But this is why you subscribe to the channel, ladies and gentlemen. We give you up toate Titans coverage. I’m going to condense all this down into about 10 minutes for what you need to know from the general manager Mike Borghazi. So that’s why you subscribe join. We’re almost at 11,500 subs. The first thing that he talked about and this is the opening statement. He had a very very good opening statement and he talked about how he understands the frustration with the fans and just not being the competitive team that they are this year. This is what he had to say. The results aren’t good enough. And uh I will say Jim Wyatt was misqued in his article not good enough right now and we understand that and we understand the frustration with the fan base and we know that we have to earn back that trust of the fan base. We are doing this ever doing everything as possible right now to get what’s right and I believe we will fix it at the end of the day. I will say he knows this is a process of building his team. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It is going to take time to going to kind of bring the Titans back basically from the dead because they were the worst team in football. But you got to remember they got their quarterback and that’s main thing. You got step one down. This was never going to be a one-year build process. It was never going to be, hey, the Titans are going worse to first because not only did you get your quarterback, but the team around you was still pretty bad. And going off of, hey, we’re not going to go into a full full full fire sale, Mike Boranzi also talked about Jeffrey Simmons and why they did not trade him. And right now he said he is invaluable to us with where we want to go. Jeff is a pillar for what you want on the team. So you have your main captain on offense and you have your main guy on defense and you build completely around them. And Jeffrey Simmons, he has been incredible this season. I know he hasn’t really he hasn’t played in the last two games since getting hurt against the New England Patriots, but his stats were stellar as your defensive tackle. 30 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four and a half sacks, 11 QB hits, and a forced fumble. He has been great. He’s been great. He was never getting traded. There were all the rumors, oh, would you give up two first round picks? Well, I talked about it. uh if you trade two first round picks for him, you get those two first round picks just like the Jets did for Sauce Gardner. Well, you still have to hit on those draft picks and it’s not a guarantee, but you got to guarantee that you have Jeffrey Simmons and he’s going to be a dog for your team. The next thing that he discussed was draft picks and the future of the Tit Titans of what they’re going to do with the salary cap, what they’re going to do with draft picks. And let’s kind of just recap what the moves that they made before the NFL trade deadline. Talking about draft picks, you traded Jarvis Brownley Jr. to the Jets for a sixth round pick. You traded Roger McCreary to the Rams for a conditional fifth round pick that could go into a fourth. And also the same thing with Draymond Jones to the Ravens for a fifth. But if the Ravens make the playoffs, he talked about if the make the playoffs and Draymond Jones gets two more sacks, that fifth round pick goes in to a fourth round pick. So they’re hoping that that’s what happens. Mike Borggoni, this is what he had to say about the cap space and the draft picks. We have a lot of cap, but you have to stay disciplined to it, too. In the future, we want to draft and develop guys, but there are opportunities that if we see a player that we deem is going to help us, we are going to thin at the position we are going to attack it. And he also said there’s a balance to that, but you certainly want to have your roster consist of more younger players that are drafted to really build the culture that you want. And when you got to hit on those draft picks, they’re not guaranteed that you’re going to completely hit that on the spot. There’s a thing called busts for a reason. And they might not be the perfect draft pick that you have, but you got to hit on them. And they’ve hit on some of these draft picks, and that’s what we’re going to talk about. But first, I want to ask you guys, do you have trust in Mike Borghazi? Do you trust the man? Go. If you do, hit that thumbs up icon because I mean, he has a process. He’s worked with the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s won Super Bowls as the assistant GM. So, go ahead, hit that thumbs up icon. We’re going to get into the rest of what he said. But first, I got to tell you about our sponsor of today’s show, and that is Prize Pix. The hard-hitting football action is even better with Prize Picks. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. All right, let’s talk about the rest of that he talked about. So, the next thing is he talked about the rookies. And the rookies for the uh Titans, that’s kind of been the positive note throughout the 2025 season. They did a great job in the players that they drafted this year in 2025. Starting with Cam Ward all the way down to the end. And Avery, it’s the next one after that. That quote. There we go. Perfect. So, this is what he had to say just about how good this draft class is. They represent anything that we want in a Titan with their work ethic, passion, and drive to get better. He said, “They are all developing. I think they are all contributing. Cam is a starting quarterback in this league and has some really good moments, really high level throws once he puts everything together with some consistency, which I think you will. He’s been impressive with his leadership and it’s also been impressive. And he went on to go talk about I’m not going to bore you with all the quotes that he said because he talked about LA a manner, he talked about Chamir DK, he talked about Gunnar Helm. They have all been great. Kevin Winston Jr. Every single one of these players has been great for this team and you’ve seen the development that they could possibly be stars in the future. I will say Chamir DK needs to play more. Last week I started him on my fantasy team because I was I’m really confident in this guy and all he did was return a punt return for touchdown. So it’s still not bad, but he is a dominant threat and he’s played in every game. But when you look at his stats, he could be possibly the number one guy on the Titans. 21 receptions, 194 yards. I know that doesn’t look like much, but 9.2 yards per catch, and he’s gone for 70 yards in four catches. He’s gone for 90 yards. He has a receiving touchdown, but look at that return yards. 1300 return yards. He’s one of the best in the league already at returning the returning the football, whether it’s punt or kick return. The Titans have hit on this rookie class. We didn’t even go into what Gunnar Helm has done and we clearly know that Chicka Conquo is not going to be a part of this roster next year because Gunnar Helm is that good and he’s going to be a star in this league. And the last thing that he talked about, which of course had to be talked about because you’re going to be looking for a new head coach, and he talked about what the head coaching search would look like, but he first just wanted to give his props to Mike McCoy. And uh personally, I don’t agree with uh what he says, but I mean, you’re not going to go and just dog your own head coach at the moment. But he said, “I think Mike is doing a great job holding everything together here under the circumstances.” I disagree. I think his play calling is bad. I think some of the decisions he’s made are really bad. And overall, it just shows that he’s not going to be the Titans future head coach, but like he said, with the circumstances that he has, he’s a placeholder for the future. And here’s what he had to say fully about who he wants to be as his next head coach. It’s imperative we make this decision who is the best leader of this organization moving forward. Me and Chad Brinker have had conversations that it’s important that not is not only a fit for the organization, we want a leader. I don’t care if it is defense or offense will come together and make the best decision. And this is who I have of my five head coaching candidates. Cliff Kingsbury, Joe Brady, Brian Flores. There’s your defensive guy right there. Matt Naggie and of course the number one guy who I like the most and that’s Mike McCarthy. Those are my five head coaching candidates. I know there’s a lot more out there. You could have some college coaches in the mix there. Those will definitely get some interviews. But number one guy for me is Mike McCarthy. Before we get on out of here, name a head coaching candidate you want the Titans to hire. It could be anybody. I don’t care who it is, but go down in the comments section right now.
