‘The Insiders’ break down Jets moves following 2025 trade deadline
Quinnen Williams to the Cowboys in exchange for first and second round picks. Also sending Sauce Gardner to the Colts for a couple of first round draft picks. There were former high draft picks involved in both those deals as well. Ian. The Jets, now at a time where they’re coming off their first win of the season, they’re trying to build something new with Aaron Glenn and the GM Darren Mougey, in the course of two trades, now has amassed two first round picks in 2026, 3 in 2027, setting up this team for the future. How did it all come together? Yeah, it came together in an absolutely wild 48 hours or so for the New York Jets are starting to become rumblings. I would say probably mid day yesterday that the Jets were up to something and not only up to something, but up to something big. And according to general managers I talked to, the Jets were not willing to part ways with any of their big time talents unless they got blockbuster offers, Godfather offers they could not turn down, and that’s exactly what they got. The Sauce Gardner deal was certainly a massive one. Two first rounders for Sauce Gardner. The Jets, of course, end up with A.D. Mitchell as well, someone who actually was coveted by several teams during this trade deadline window. They give up Sauce Gardner. He goes to the Colts. The Colts now load up for what is looking like their best season in a long, long time. And then it’s the Quinnen Williams deal to the Dallas Cowboys as well. And look, if you’re the New York Jets and you are going to part ways with some big time talent, a couple things have to happen. One, you got to get all the picks, which is basically what the Jets did. Two, you got to position yourself for a future quarterback that is now the most important thing for the Jets. They did all of that. It was an incredible day for New York. They got to nail the picks. They got to nail the picks. But they have set themselves up to do exactly that. Darren Mougey, the new GM, and Aaron Glenn, the head coach, have had a day and they have earned all of these picks that they acquired over the last several hours or so. Right. Let’s be clear. This team is going nowhere this season. So they are in for a rebuild. And it’s going to have to be a big rebuild. Having said that you said this. They’re set up for the future with all these draft picks. That’s provided that Darren Mougey can draft like Ozzie Newsome. I mean, he’s going to have to hit on all of these. Yes, they are set up to maneuver to get themselves in position for a quarterback. They’ve got to get the right quarterback. They’ve got to replace a Sauce Gardner. Right. They’ve got to replace a Quinnen Williams. Those are all pro-level players at their positions that aren’t there anymore. Everybody knew that. Quinnen Williams was frustrated by the situation at the Jets. And so it’s probably best for him to go to Dallas and for the Jets to move on. This regime needs to get people in there who are all pulling in the same direction. Having said that, they are positioned to make a lot of noise in the draft. I just go back to the year 2000. That was my first year covering the Jets. They had four first round draft picks. They took Chad Pennington, John Abraham, Sean Ellis, Anthony Beck. They were a better team, a much better team than they are right now. They had Bill Parcells pulling the levers behind the scenes, but that team didn’t win a Super Bowl. They didn’t even get close to winning a Super Bowl. So this is an awfully risky move by the Jets for the future. They’ve got the picks now they have to execute them. Here is Breece Hall just now posting on X. Sick about my brothers man. Sad face emoji. Happy for them. But man I’m sick rn right now. We thought maybe Bryce Breece Hall might be the most likely jet to be traded leading up to today. The Jets sounds like they wanted a third round pick in exchange for Breece. They did not get that. So what they did get were two offers that they felt like they could not turn down for Gardner and for Quinnen Williams. When we talked about the Jets recently, I said, I think the Jets front office should figure out which members of their core want to be there, have a feeling like they’re going to be a part of this team moving forward. The reason I said that is because we were hearing the rumblings that Quinnen Williams was asking for a trade behind the scenes, and he had asked repeatedly, and he got his wish as part of this because they got the deal finally, from the Cowboys. There are a couple of runs at this, it sounds like, until they finally got a second round pick, plus the first round pick to get the deal done so that Darren Mougey, who during the course of his interviews with the General manager for the general manager with the Jets, from what I understand, his communicating to ownership and everyone else involved, was his clear plan for how to build this thing up. I don’t know that, he said in there in that meeting that you have to tear it all down. But he sure made it clear that if you’ve got to make some tough, painful decisions to benefit your team in the long run, that he’s willing to deliver on that. And he did just that today with every move that he was willing to make. There were several teams involved in the Quinnen Williams trade, and this was really a moving target over the past week or so with Quinnen Williams. He also is entering a mostly non-guaranteed year of his contract. He’s already onto his second contract. It made sense that something was going to have to happen with him between now and, let’s say, next summer here. So for the Jets to get significant value, that made sense. The curious one was Sauce Gardner, and from my understanding, this came together this morning. It was Chris Ballard, the Colts general manager, taking one more run at it, really pushing it and wanting to get a guy who is not just an upgrade but a true difference maker. If you look at all the advanced stats on Sauce Gardner, he certainly fits into that category. And if you’re sitting at home wondering what happened to the Sauce Gardner, who back in July they were talking about along with Garrett Wilson, as part of our core, they did a contract extension with him. How do you trade a guy that quickly? Well, part of it was the structure. His signing bonus was around $13 million. He has an option bonus next year for $20 million. So unlike a lot of deals where it’s a huge signing bonus. And then he got the bonus Proration that creates these cap hits. It didn’t exist with sauce. It is a true reset for the Jets organization that now also adds a lot of draft capital out into the 2027 draft, which i

First I love your videos
I always leave your videos feeling lighter and more optimistic about everything happening in life ๐โญ

I just don't want the Jets to draft a QB. I don't want Mendoza.
This video cured my boredom.
3:32 this was more offensive than blackface
So the jets are the minor league team of the NFL. ๐
So the Jets get two first round picks in 26 and 3 first rounders in 27 ? That's sounds pretty good

All these picks still won't amount to nothing looking at the jets history under woody johnson
Trading sauce was the move that made me quit the jets fandom. Nope.
How negative is this woman good lord we know this already lady
I think they made these trades based on the performance from the Cincinnati game. Seeing who actually wants to be here… I heard on other podcast that Q asked for a trade 3 times…..I wouldn't draft a QB until the team is built and can provide a firm landing for their franchise QB…I don't think they will draft a QB in the first round….especially looking at how they are building the WR room…..the WRs look more like what they have on Detroit….
Aaron Glenn and company seem to be following the same model from Detroit when they traded Matt Stafford for draft picks and remade that team what it is now. They will probably start with the offensive and defensive lines. Just my opinion.
Fumble
It is a wise decision for the Jets to look to the future with 1st round picks the next two years. The Jets need a young franchise quarterback next year. Now,the Jets can draft the players they want! Yea!!!๐
For the New York Jets, you got do what you got do! Sauce Gardner n eeds to play on a winning playoff team! He will help the Colts defense. ๐ฎYea!!!!
Same old jets always winning in the off-season never winning during the regular season..
The jets aren't a real team anymore it's just a team where you can get your feet wet before sending you to a real team. Even though this was a good move ๐คท. I'm starting to become a bills fan after this season. Let's see what the jets will be like next year but a real congratulations to Sauce โ
It's the Jets… We don't care!
It doesn't matter how many picks you have if you can't make the proper decision. The Jets have proven over and over that they are incapable of making a correct pick. Same old Jets
New mayor Mamdani will fix Jets.
