30 HITS in 1 Postseason! Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement makes HISTORY! 😱 (Every hit!)

[Applause] Front of third, nobody out. Ernie Clement leans into one to deep left field. It is gone. Ernie Clement makes it two to nothing. A different guy every night. The story of the Blue Jays. This time it’s Ernie Clement launching a two-run home run to start the scoring. Didn’t even have time to tell you that he swings about 50% of the time on the first pitch. That’s how quick those two things just happen. One, two to it is in left field and a base hit. Here comes Marshall Bellinger’s throw. No chance. Extra 90 ft on the throw home. Ernie Clemen knocked in three. The Blue Jays file. Well, two strikes doesn’t matter. Middle of the plate and you get a great jump with two outs. Obviously, when you’re a base runner, they got to their magic number already when they score five runs. What was it? 72 and four now. Clement has his third hit of the game. Remarkable showing for the Blue Jays. And remember, they had five days off. Everybody said, “Well, they’re going to be a little rusty.” Sorry about that. No rust on the Blue Jays. Clement puts it in play to first. Rice has it. He’ll race him to the bag. And Clement beats it out with a headong dive. And a diving play right here has him aboard with an infield hit. Can’t get yourself in that position. Ground ball through the left side and a base hit and Guerrero’s going to charge for the plate. Bellinger’s throw is not in time. Guerrero slides in ahead of the tag. Four to one Blue Jays. The Blue Jays are playing aggressive. They’re playing confident. I think McMahon moves over to the left side of third base right when this pitch was made. That’s the difference. And look at Guerrero. The difference is last year I don’t think he scores on this play. He’s in much better shape. Now he’s the round fall foul pole. Ernie Clement deep to the left field corner. Bellinger on the run. It’ll bounce off the warning track and Clement is three for three in this game. This is a slider that backs up. That was like a mediocre fast as it looks in the middle of the zone to the hitter. Clement through the left side and Ernie Clement is four for four. KT loops a ball into left field. He says, “Enough of your Cam Schlitler background stuff. I’m going to just go get another hit.” His eighth out of his last 10 at bat. Shoots one to right center field. He’s got another base hit. This guy’s incredible. Short compact swings. Notice that the Blue Jays don’t have a lot of wild swings, meaning they’re just not sitting on their back leg trying to lift the ball and hit it out of the into the to the moon. So that’s what it takes when you’re facing really good fast ball delivery and fast ball velocity. That’s the only way. That’s textbook. And then slaps it into center field at base. He swings at everything and he makes contact with just about everything as well. The Blue Jays don’t fear his fast ball and they’re sitting almost on some off speed and making the best of it. That was another split finger down. Yeah, you know, his command, we talked about it a lot. He’s got great command with his heater and when he’s on with that and he’s got command of his other stuff, too. It’s a tough at bat. Thanks so much, Dan. Thanks, Tom. Ernie Clement, first pitch of the inning. Greets him with a base hit down the left field line and the Blue Jays in business to open the third. Ernie Clement right field. That’s a base hit. Sant waved home. Ro throws for the plate. It’s cut off for the third. He’s out, but the run had scored. Santand Bear had stepped on home and so it’s eight to2 Blue Jays as Clement knocks in another. Up the middle he goes with another two strike hit. Ernie Clement close to 500 in this postseason is the first base runner for Toronto. That’s just good base hit base. That’s just good hitting. I mean that ball was inner third and he went right up the middle. So he throws this fast ball in and he goes right up the middle instead of trying to do too much with it through the left side and a base hit for Clement. Second of the day for Ernie. [Music] Swatted to right center field. Base hit for Clement. Kirk the slowest runner in the big leagues. He’s going to get there. The throw from Kzone was not close and Toronto’s taken the lead. Clement cracks one in the air deep left field. A Rosarena steps back at the wall. It’s off the very top of the wall. It’s extra bases for Clement. The horns going off. Chaos is ensuing. He’s into third with a triple. Just missed a home run. This ball hits in that little fence area. The blue line’s the homer. And then of course Rosarena doesn’t quite know where it is in the beginning. Thankfully he saw it in time. That would have been an inside the park home run. emerged as an offensive threat by leaning into that. Put it in play. Head to second. Second extra base hit for Clement. He got the hardest one out of the way. A triple. Little slicer there for a double off the turf. They do this better than anybody though. Roblace’s throw not close to in time. And they’ve got in corner but nobody out. This was great running and he deaked Roblace. I want you to watch how he looked like he was going to stop and that split second is all Ro needed. Watch the runner. Okay, he’s going to slow down and stop like I’m stopping and then he gets it in fast motion. You can’t see it as much as we saw it up here and he did a great job. 02 from Snell is hooked into shadow left field and a base hit. And that’s what he’s done all postseason. Swings at everything. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the middle. It doesn’t matter if it’s a foot off of the ground. Ernie Clement’s not met a pitch he doesn’t like. Clementes through. Blue Jays take the lead. Station to station. Three-2. Ernie Clement delivers again. Just something different about this team when runners get on. Hyperfocused. Yeah. Committed to their plan. Yeah. but making contact and taking advantage of pitches that don’t break out of the zone. Everybody who thought that this was going to be a fairly easy series for the Los Angeles Dodgers, you’re getting a example of why it won’t be. Ernie Clement pops the first pitch that he sees. Straight up, straight down. Freddy Freeman dropped the ball. Oh my goodness. What in the world happened? Leadoff man on. I’m telling you, it’s one of my biggest pet peeves. The pitcher can catch that ball instead of a first baseman running in full speed from about 120 ft away. Not going this time. Fights it off down the line. A tear drop of a base hit for Clement. Barger heads to third. They’ve got him cornered again. Even when Clement doesn’t hit it hard, even when it hardly registers on that stack board, he finds grass above 400 in this postseason. It’s these unsung guys out of the middle of nowhere that have made this Blue Jays season. Like Ernie Clement, like if you go back farther, Alejandro Kirk cranks this ball to left center field. That’s headed for the gap. That’s headed for the wall. Varial rounds third and stops on a double from Clement. Screamer of a line drive puts him at second and third. This is the point in the game I was talking about where your stuff and location has to be really really good because you lose the extension and late life on your pitches. So location the later you go is way more important and that’s going to be it for Otani. I mean still a remarkable job to go into the seventh inning after 18 innings of baseball last night. Try on two. Clemens slaps it right side. diving shot. Freeman raced to the DK Clement and he’s safe. Ernie Clement with an infield hit. Hustling his way down there. Watch this little pause. See that? Looks at it. Too late. Then he’s got to have that direct line and it’s a hard ask for a pitcher to beat a hitter going down the line. Bond to Ernie K with their own two and a line drive. Base hit to center field. It’s pretty impressive. Fast ball guarded up the middle. Mookie bats makes an air. Second of the game and the Dodgers. And it is a hit. Yeah, I don’t think he could have thrown him out. Mookie’s made every play so far. This one just catches this thumb, but now he’s got to turn and throw and get a pretty fast runner out. We’re used to seeing him make it all the time. Here’s a shot to left center field. Hernandez will not get there. Extra bases for Ernie Clement. Second hit of the ball game. Two out double again. The tying run coming up. This was just a great piece of hand. There’s nothing PK could do about it. Walk from Bette. Single from Barger. Base runners in both innings for the Blue Jays. Trying to crack through and there’s a base hit the other way. Does Bette have enough for that bad knee? They stop him at third and the bases are loaded. It’s just station to station right now. The bases clogged by Bashett’s lack of ability to run. That’s what I was talking about. They almost needed to be a double. Unfortunately, they got that big two out hit, but he can only do what he can do. And now they’re going to need another two out. Big hit. That’s the guy they love. Ernie Clement on a 3-1 pitch. Has another base hit. Another multi- hit game about 400 for the postseason. Ernie Clack got a pitch he liked, didn’t try to do too much. He’s a hit machine and so is this Toronto lineup. The reason they’ve been so good by the way won the race to Tyros Arena for the most hits in a single post season. Shins 22 drops the ball to left center field that’s headed over to Hernandez’s shot and up against the wall just will not stop his 30th of this postseason the new record. This guy’s amazing top of the zone fast and just goes and gets on top of it.

  1. Ernie Clement with .411 average in the postseason and Schneider had him batting 8th, no wonder the Blue Jays couldn't cash in with runners in scoring position

  2. I think the 1 thing clement needs to do this season is hit the weight room. Especially in the World Series I noticed, he hit so many doubles to the warning track or straight off the wall

  3. Clement and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with 28 Hits (third most in a single postseason in MLB history.) In general the Jays had one of the best offences we have seen in Post season history as well. I think this is why people are so upset that they didn't win it all. They really deserved it.

  4. This guy is a stud and still very underrated even in Toronto. It is staggering to me that even this week, Blair and Barker (sportsnet podcasters) were asking "Do you think Ernie Clement has done enough to be an everyday starter next year"?!! Um, well he just set a record for the most hits in the postseason and was a gun all year, the first year he has really been given a real shot. So yeah I'd say that shouldn't even be a question.
