Hughes, Kane, Lankinen & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks at Blackhawks (Nov 5, 2025)

Yeah, I mean obviously uh had our chances in the first and second and then um a little bit too sloppier um in the third for sure. Is frustration the word that covers how that third period went. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, could be. Uh yeah, given how you guys were playing, you were all over them in the second period. It’s not what you expected. Didn’t expect to be down 52. Yeah, definitely didn’t expect that. Um, I mean, I guess that’s what that’s why you play 60 minutes, right? And, uh, we had a great 40, but then obviously fell apart there. Do you give credit to their goalender on a night like tonight? Not I mean, maybe not not really. I mean, um, he made some good saves, but I wouldn’t say he made any, you know, outlandish saves. Uh, I don’t know what the shot count was, whether it hit 50 or not, but um, I mean, he played well, but yeah. So, it comes more down to you guys executing. Yeah. I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t see any like insane saves. Did you? No. So, the fact that they weren’t trying to block, it seemed like they were trying not to block shots, and that’s certainly something they’ve been trying to do. Does that throw you guys off? You know, you’re shooting, you’re trying to create rebounds, things like that, but you’re getting clear lanes of the goalie. Is that I don’t know. I I don’t know. I just uh obviously we we got some shots to him. um you know the OC play uh you know it is what it is but it’s it’s nice to see um him in front of net there and compete and I think we got to just keep doing that and find some greasy goals especially when um you know not much is going in for us right now but I mean besides that besides the offense I think that you know if you ask the coaching staff they’d probably be more focused on um the lapses defensively than what we could have done offensively. You didn’t score on the power play tonight obviously, but getting Garland back looked like you had a couple of good chances there on the man advantage at least. Yeah, I mean, uh, it’s nice to have him back. Obviously, that that’s another, you know, subject there is they scored on their power play. We went 0 for two and, um, so I think, yeah, I think I can be better on the power play for for sure. And as far as Garly, it was uh, nice to have him back. Yeah. Uh, thought we we played well enough to to win obviously. Um, dominated the first two periods. uh you know a little soft in front of our net. Um you know they get a few lucky bounces and uh capitalizing the power play there. So um yeah tough but uh a lot of positive signs in terms of how we played uh tonight about for you personally. Three goals in the last two games. Is that something you can build off of moving forward? Yeah, not the first time I’ve done it. Uh, you know, I think it’s just, you know, uh, new team. Um, didn’t play all last regular season, so it was a little different. Uh, and I think just getting a feel for things took me a little longer than I would have liked, and now starting to feel real good. Are they doing anything differently with you guys control? Well, I mean, you knew they were going to come out with a a better period than they probably had the first two. Um, you know, I’m sure they weren’t happy with with their first two periods. And you know, they get one that uh goes off a skate in the back door and then uh capitalize in a power play. And you know, I think obviously would have liked to probably get a couple uh in the first two periods and and not let them hang around, but uh you know, that’s the way the game goes sometimes. You know, we we got a lucky break uh in Chicago and and and they got one uh here tonight here in Vancouver. Yeah, obviously not not the result we wanted. I wish could have made a one or two more saves to keep us in it, but um try to do my best every night and make sure I prepare and and put my aame every night and uh that’s that’s all I can do. What about the Bratusi goal? His second one there. Looks like he might have kicked it in. What was your thoughts on that one? Yeah, I haven’t I haven’t seen it, so I got to look look that up, but I’m sure the referee saw it and uh they made they made their call. It feels like uh over the last couple games there’s been a lot of back door goals or back door plays that the opposition has set up. as a goalender, are you able to direct kind of your forwards and defenseman to watch that or is that just a system thing that has to be adjusted? Yeah, we probably have to look look at that a little bit. Um it’s always a challenging play for for a goalie, but um it’s a fiveman unit and six guys including the goalie, so we just got to work better as a unit. Well, the first two periods we doubled them in chances and I mean we all saw that. Um I think one goes in pretty good chance we win that hockey game. Little mishap on the first one they got uh defensively we made a mistake and um and then all of a sudden I I just think we got off a little bit from there. I don’t know if it was fatigue from the trip coming back or just uh we overpressed and you guys saw the rest. On the Okconor one that was overturned. Were you sort of confident that it wasn’t going to count or what did you think in the moment? You know, he went to the net. I I Yeah, I when I saw it, I thought they probably weren’t going to count it just on you mentioned the kind of lose overp pressing and whatnot. I mean, was that just a case of sort of me mental fatigue perhaps or you know what what did you think happened? what led to the breakdown defensively in Yeah, I think you know the first goal was just more there was a mistake on the goal and and um I think the next couple maybe I don’t know if it’s mental fatigue and then you allow maybe frustration to come in and you over press. We’ve all been there as players where you know or you help a buddy out too quick uh or you lose a little trust whatever it is. on that town, you know, was one thing, but you’re you’re you’re probably right about, you know, we we try to do too much or help or over press at times. And that that could happen in a game where you could easily be up three or four goals in the first two periods. Um get one called back and then you’re coming off a trip where you have fatigue and then all of a sudden you might be mentally a little bit frustrated maybe. Um and uh that could be the outcome, right? offensively. I mean, you guys got a lot of pucks to the net, but it was almost like Chicago were inviting you to do that. Did Did that almost throw you guys off the fact that they were giving you open lanes to shoot at? Sorry. Sorry. Like just the way Chicago was defending in the sense that they weren’t trying to block shots like they were trying to let they almost permissive in into letting the outside shots off. Did that almost suck your guys in a little bit and not work harder to get inside perhaps? I don’t know. I didn’t I’m not sure I saw it that way. I that they were just letting it was all outside shots. I mean, we we had a lot going on. I thought the goalie played pretty good and tight. Um kept them in it. Um maybe we could have anchored a little bit longer at the net. Uh our first guy, he came off it a little bit too early at times. Um I think he thought, you know, when you’re playing against certain teams, there’s a time to come off it, especially when we go DD. I thought as coaches we were I heard you know they wanted our our first guy to stay at the net a little bit longer to keep our keep goalie was playing having a good game for them keep him deep in his net things like that but um you know it was working what we had going on and um you know here we are. Uh Connor Garland returns tonight. Um what does he bring to the power play? Garly well Garley is a good hockey player. Uh he he he had a lot of good looks today. had the puck on a stick a lot today. Um, you know, it’s always great to get a veteran like that back. Uh, and Elias Person, uh, is that just a chance for a young player to reset? Yeah. Um, you know, he’s young, he’s played a lot of hockey, a lot of minutes, and, uh, for sure. Uh, the PK, Adam, you guys had one pen, um, penalty again tonight. The goal went in. You guys, I think, have a lot of the most PK goals in the league. What are you seeing right now in the penalty kill? Is it as bad as the stats suggest or are you seeing some better things there? Well, when goals are going in, doesn’t matter what you say, it’s not what you want. So, you know, you’re going to hear bad. But, um, tonight was so different than say the last couple games where I think it was a fatigue move. We there was a time where we went down and pressed and then the next guy pressed, the next guy pressed and the moment was wrong, but the guys were trying to do the right thing and that can happen with with mental fatigue. Uh Lucas Reicho now he’s seven games in his into his career, so he’s been around for a little bit. What are you seeing from him now that he’s spent some time here? Yeah, he’s got I mean he’s he’s got speed, he can make plays, things like that. Um he’s trying to figure it out. We’ve had you know different line com combinations. um you know, he’s learning to play our system and um you know, learning to defend more with his body. I think once he starts doing that, he’ll have even more success. Uh you know, but uh I think he’s got to do that as well on the offensive side of it. get his body into guys at the net, get his body into guys on the walls.

  1. This is the most dissapointing game ive seen from this group. How on earth do you manage all those useless shots with nothing actually being dangerous. Time to take a serious look at if we are even close to competitive, tank now, get a chance at McKenna

  2. Wow Vancouver fans are a few screws loose! Its ok, they wont win every game and Chicago got lucky on a few goals there. It happens, its sports. Vancouver outplayed and outchanced them; S. Knight stood tall!

  3. If the FBI is investigating the UFC for betting irregularities they should investigate the NHL too.. How does a player go from 100 points too 40 a year? Tochet was involved with the type of people that were bribing UFC fighters, its for sure the same people, they probably extort the payers too. Thats why EP looks so depressed, Tochet ruined his career and now he's in the pocket of his grease ball friends, He will continue to make them money.
