It’s never ordinary at bet 365. Hawks win 52 in Vancouver. Their first win in Vancouver or against Vancouver since 2021. And we have 100 likes. And that means Noodle Man Noodle Man awakens from his long fall. It has been too long since Doodle Man has been able to stretch his flappy arms and celebrate a Hawks win with us. He still got it. What a night, man. I mean, that was a uh really stressful Yes. game for a lot of it. And fortunately, the Hawks made it a bit of a laugher towards the end, but man, that second period especially, Spencer Knight was awesome. Kept them in the game. And something we’ve been saying about this team all year is even when they don’t have their agame for the for a frame or for a period and a half or whatever it might be, they find it. They get it back. They rally. They overcome. To me, that is coaching, coaching, coaching. Yeah. I They were able to weather what they had to in the in the second period. And I’d say probably like the last five minutes of that second period, they got their legs back and they kind of evened things out. But it was it was a it was a tough one to uh to get through, but they did it. Spencer Knight came up huge. Um and then yeah, just like they flipped the game right back on its head uh in in their direction in the third period. And I’m I’m just I’m thrilled to see a team that going into that third period, all you had to do was was be the better team over that span of 20 minutes, even by just one goal. Yeah. Yeah. And you win the game because it was it was that tight. Um you know through the through the first 40 minutes and uh they get that first one. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Yeah. Um and then uh and then the floodgates just open up and uh yeah, it’s a huge huge breakout offensively which it just felt like this game they were building towards that. like it was it it felt after the first period and you know towards the back half of that second period it felt like they had some momentum generating and it just felt like a a matter of time uh and then the third period man they they they just busted wide open. I think it’s, you know, you get that first goal 306 into the third, then you draw that penalty and you feel like, okay, this game is here for the taking, right? Like, yeah, Vancouver gave you their best in the second period. You withtood it. They started this the third really well, even before they scored. Then they score. Then power play. Levino just gives a pizza to the Canucks and they and they bail him out. as we’re both like, “Hey, he’s on the top power play.” Oh, oh, God. It was all of our worst left nightmares. But Spencer and I Knight bails him out. They go the other way and score. Uh 3 minutes and 40 seconds later, it’s two nothing. Leave actually gets the secondary assist on that second Protusi goal, the power play goal, and uh they’re off to the races. And then it’s less than a minute later, it’s three nothing, and then they’re rolling. And it’s just so good to see them be able to take a take something bad, withstand it, survive it, and then come back and and and win that game. Like we said, and you just said it, like you go into third No, you just need one, they get it, and it was awesome. And uh it’s it’s like if you saw our second intermission report that we put up uh every road game from the Sunnyside lounge um frustration from both of us like man like soft passes out hit the freaking net message received to start to third. They were a different team and it’s good to see that get rewarded. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, and we we felt in, you know, the the game against Seattle, it was just like they they were dominating play. They they had a lot of great possession and they had a lot of shot attempts. It’s just they didn’t really like really hunker down and and make them worth it. You know, they didn’t they didn’t get the the high quality looks that you were hoping for. And then, you know, tonight they are able to capitalize on a lot of it and um just an an uncanny ability for Tyler Bertusi to um just be a a backboard. Literally, like literally a backboard. Literal backboard. I I had Sarah uh create something that is just wonderful. I present to you the Bert Board. Um that I think we should start marking some tallies down for how many Bert board goals he scores uh this season. We’ll do it like a little pretty all of them little chalk tally uh on the on the backboard there, but just it’s I I had this thought during the game and I think I’ve said it before, but like there’s just a number of players on this team that just have a really weird niche thing that they’re really good at. and Bertusi’s ability to just like be a bumper next to the net um is is is one of them. So, well, he chokes up on the stick so much it’s like he’s using a shinny stick half the time out there. Just Well, it’s just like you get your you get your hands closer to the blade and like you can’t score off your hands, but like if the blade is closer to your hand, you have a better sense of like where the puck is going to go because you kind of have a natural ability to find it with your hand. But, uh, it just amazes me that he that teams have not figured out, hey, there’s number 59. It’s like a number that doesn’t like disappear into a crowd. Like, just get him out of there. Like, yeah, right. But he has made his entire career on that. It’s really that honestly that’s a very smart move because it’s very hard to defend because do you say okay I’m going to put you know as a defenseman I’m going to take him away and you know try and tie him up in some way shape or form but then you just leave your goalender especially on a power play is when when he’s going to do it more often. But if you’re in that position as the defender, you’re kind of like on your own in front of the net uh depending on the defensive setup. But if you do that, you you take him away, but you leave your goalender unprotected. And then if you are defending him that way, what are you doing? Are you putting your back to the play to try and tie up his stick? Are you trying to out, you know, out muscle him? He’s down on on his knee. Like low man wins is what I’ve been told in sports. Um, so it’s it’s a really hard spot to like try and defend and take away. So it’s it’s a really like smart again very smart, very niche ability uh from Bertusi. And you know, he’s he’s made a really uh nice home in that in that spot with that play and the first goal. No kicking motion. Yeah, he turned his foot. There was no forward kick. He turned his foot. Yeah. Hey, you know what? Adam Foot has watched a lot of hockey. He’s played a lot of hockey and he saw enough to He’s Yeah. Really? He saw enough to like something wrong with our TV. Oh god, that’s his nose. Oh lord. His nose is just going that direction. But you know, it’s it’s he just has this ability like we talk about like our Timmy Paneran and and Alex Debrink always had this ability to and Alex Ovuchkin has 900 times found that soft area of the ice. He just kind of finds a way to slip into open space and get there for that shot. It’s the same exact thing that Bertusi is doing at the front of the net. He just finds a way to get behind the defense and his linemates to find him. Matt Grizzlick the first goal just what we’ve been screaming about for the first 40 minutes is my god just put it on net. Stop trying to put it into a little teacup. Just put the puck on the net. Stop playing for the for the redirection. Apparently, that’s the message the Hawks coaching staff gave, too. And Grizzlow just very calmly just flips it on net. Bertusi’s right there. Like, he’s just it it’s so simple. He has mastered it. He’s now got 10 points in 13 games. And I don’t know what it is about Tyler Bertusi and Jeff Bl, but if there’s ever been hockey soulmates, it works. It’s these two. Mhm. But I mean, look, when you talk when you talk about what Jeff Blashel preaches for as a philosophy, as a culture, like we talked about in the pregame show, that’s Tyler Bertusi. When he is fully engaged, which he has been all year this year, that’s the kind of guy he is, is I’m going to do everything I can. I’m going to use every last drop of talent I’ve been given and pay the price and take the beating and do the little things needed to win the game. And he has been outstanding this year for the Hawks. He has been uh I think game to game one of the most consistent and dependable Blackhawks. Whether he scores or not, he’s always in the right places in the battle doing the little things needed to win. Does it always work? No. But damn, more often than not, he’s getting results this year, and it’s been really good to see. Jeff Blashel has has uh called him a foxhole guy um for Yeah, I mean, it’s it’s it does feel like a different version than we saw last season where he’d be, you know, hot for about 10 games and then he’d be invisible for 10 games. Exactly. There hasn’t been a game this season that I think Bertusi has been invisible in in whether he’s on the score sheet or not. Like he is he is putting in those efforts and is incredibly noticeable. And I think too what we’re seeing on the ice is also translating off the ice because Blashel is also, you know, a couple of couple of games ago at home, one of the morning skates, he was asked about Frank Nazar and his personality, his energy, just kind of how he what he brings to the team, right? So, in answering the question about Frank Nazar’s energy, he also he also went out of his way to be like Tyler Bratusi also has a magnetic energy and a positive energy and a really good impact on the group and on the room and I wonder if like that was the same guy that was playing last season under Luke Richardson and and Sorenson. And I don’t know, you’re right. There is something about Bratusi this year and how he played in Detroit and Grand Rapids early on in his career under Blau like there’s something to it. There is something to be said for believing in what a coach is telling you. And I think you know even before Tyler Bertusi was a Blackhawk the idea that hockey fans had of Tyler Bertusi is the guy we’re seeing. And I think last year we had some conversations about like is this reputation of his like really warranted? Yeah. Is he really a physical player? Is he really engaged all the time? Is he really high motor? Is it the name association? Exactly. And that was I I I mean maybe part of it, but like the way he’s played this year, he does look like his uncle. He does look like Todd Bertusi. Um just being a complete menace, power forward in front of the net with a lot of skill. And like take look, the first two are are classic Bertusi net front redirects. that third goal where he’s got a hat-tick. He’s got a gaping cage and he’s and he just waits a tick and settles the puck down, elevates it, makes no mistake to have that calm, to have that poise in a moment where Look, feeling good about the game. You’re up three nothing at that point. I just want to throw it as quickly as I can at the net to try to get this hat-tick. No, took his time, coralled it, made sure it was the right shot. I I love the way he’s been playing this year. Um, so let’s get to our game pucks. Uh, we didn’t specify who’s getting who, but uh, Tyler Bertusi is a nominee and Spencer Knight is a nominee. So, get your votes in. We’ll reveal the winner at the end of the show. Uh, Spencer Knight was running away with it early in the season, but some guys have caught up. I don’t think Bertusi has one yet, though. Uh, no. Well, Knight, he does not. Knight has one, two, has six. Bard has two. Lucas Reichel has one. Colton Doc has one, and Andre Burkosski has one. So, if that influences your vote and you want to get somebody else on the board, vote for Tyler Bertusi. But there’s really no wrong vote here. Both guys were awesome. And there were some other guys that really stood out in this game that we’re going to get to next. So, do us a favor. Thank you for firing up the noodle, but he’s very loud and it makes it hard to talk. So, he’s back to sleep till we get to 400 likes. There he goes. Fell off the back. All right, so we talked about Bertusi. We probably owe Spencer and I a little bit more conversation. Yes. Uh, and we will. And everyone, stop yelling at me. It’s fine. They won the game. Yeah, fault. Um, Connor Bard was a man possessed in this game. Ends up with a goal and an assist. Empty netter, but those count too. First, uh, two points playing in Vancouver. I believe it is. Let’s think like was that two? Yeah. Two years ago where he had his first game in Vancouver and it was like the most depressing experience of his life. Yeah. This is significantly better. Five shots on goal, eight more shot attempts, so 13 shot attempts, one five, lost seven faceoffs, so 42%, but if he wins one more, he’s at 50%. He’s been much better at the faceoff dot this year. Uh it’s a kid who’s figuring it out. He’s seeing what he needs to do. And there were so many moments in this game where you saw him in the offensive zone take a hit and stay on his feet and keep the play alive. That’s something that over his first two seasons, it felt like as soon as there would be contact, he would go down on his knees or sort of fall. I don’t know if he’d strengthen the base or just inc improve the willingness to battle through that. Maybe it’s a little bit of both, probably. Yeah. But man, he has been awesome all year. Jeff Flashel the other day said he’s basically the only guy who’s had his agame every game this season. Uh, I am so pleased with what we’ve seen from Conor Badard, especially over the last like seven to 10 games. He’s been awesome. Another another a game. Um, 18 points now in in 14 games. It’s pretty good. Yeah, I I think I think you’re right. I think just getting stronger and physically maturing allows him to be able to endure that physicality and and be able to stay on his skates, keep momentum in in those mo moments rather than being knocked off the puck. And I think too it’s just it there there probably is a little bit of a different uh drive for him this season. And I think he’s out to kind of as much as he and other professional athletes will say that they don’t, you know, hear the noise or whatever, like it’s I’m sure unavoidable for him to, you know, he’s getting it from freaking Paul Bizette and all all that stuff last season. So, he knows what people say and and how they perceive him. So there probably is a little bit of a wanting to prove something in his third year and and so far like he is he is definitely um proving that he’s a different version of of of that uh that player and and I think tonight was one of those moments where you just love to see the confidence that he’s playing with that edge that he’s playing with and the fact that he was just not afraid to fire it and that something that we’ve, you know, said about him for the last two years of just like we want him to shoot more, shoot more, don’t pass up those opportunities. And he was just firing pucks. And again, not all of them are on net, but even the fact that he’s using his shot, which is unique and very, very scary for opponent opposing goalies. Like it makes you have to worry about it. It makes you have to respect the shot as a goalender, as a defenseman, and know that it’s going to be coming at you. He had his best scoring, well, one of his best scoring chances late in the third where he kind of walked in alone on the left side and and Kevin Lanken and gloved it. It was a great save by Lan. It was a freaking laser beam from Conor Madard and he just nabbed it out of the air. Uh so could have very easily had three points in this game. Um but just to see the hype that we had before the draft and coming into his rookie year, we’re starting to see it. And it’s important to remember the kid is only 20. Yeah, he’s barely 20 years old. He’s barely scratching the surface. Right now, he’s on pace for 105 points this year. Um, you know, there’s going to be good some more multi multi-point games to come. For you uh plus minus fanatics who are all bent out of shape the first two years, he’s a plus seven this year for the Blackhawks. Uh, still a career minus 73, but plus seven is a big jump. Do you think he’ll ever be a career plus player? He’ll overcome that minus 73. I don’t know. I mean, because that’s going to take a lot of work. It’ll take some time. It’ll take some time. Take a lot of work. But, uh, nothing would shock me because I think this kid is going to be everything he’s been hyped up to be. And, and I think you’re right. I think there is a little bit of that chip on his shoulder where, you know what, everyone’s writing me off. Everyone’s calling me a bus. Everyone’s calling me soft. Everyone’s talking about Mlin Celabbrini and rightfully so. Cellrini is a great player too, but he hears that. He’s aware of it and I think he’s he is a proud dude. He wants to prove people right about him in the first place and prove people wrong about him lately. And I think he’s done a lot to silence those critics. Uh he was dynamite. Has been dynamite. Uh more of this please. season as we were talking about in the pregame, you know, with the 11 and seven thing. Still not like getting totally worn out minutes wise. Only 2032 played in this game. Yeah, it’s about average for for him this season. And still had five shots on goal and eight more shot attempts. Uh so he’s been really really good. 20 minutes 27 seconds, but that’s I mean that’s a little bit and he was getting he was getting double shifted in his game, too. Yeah. And he Yeah, he had it he had it going for him in this game, so that makes sense. Uh 2142 for Alex Vacic that led all defenseman. 21102 for Wyatt Kaiser. Uh the fewest minutes played again in back-to-back games. Conor Murphy uh 1323 tonight, but he did pick up an assist. Yeah, for defenseman because Mo and Donado were in the 11 minute range. Yeah, for defenseman fewest minutes. Lechnov 1631 uh for his time tonight. Yeah, and aside from the uh really bad turnover from Levinov, liked his game today. Um there was that second Vancouver goal too. He did pinch to make a play. Mhm. Or was it the first one? I think it was the second. Let me see. Might have been the second one. But yeah, there there was a moment where he was behind below the the goal line. It was the first one. First one. Okay. Yeah, he was below the goal line and had to try and get back and recover. Um, but I mean, I don’t know if you say you quote unquote let it slide, but you were up four nothing at that point. Maybe maybe it’s it’s a it’s a teaching moment of don’t, you know, don’t let uh don’t let the game kind of get away from you to where you’re kind of freewheing. Yeah. you want to stay within, you know, stay within your structure and and you know what, they they do want him to be active offensively. Um, but that could be a time where you’re just like time and place. Well, and I mean, you saw the way that they were coached to play the third short shifts, puck in deep, keep it smart, keep, you know, don’t take any unnecessary risk. You have a comfortable re lead. It’s four nothing. Let’s not let this team back into this game. Um, so a couple couple tough plays. let Vancouver back him in a little bit, but uh to get the empty netter was great. Um but overall like yeah, Leave had a bad moment or two in this game. You’re going to get that from 20-year-old defenseman, but he was the second highest rated in possession, a 60% course. He had five on five, 18 shot attempts, four, 12 against with him on ice. Uh let’s see. He also had a great moment where he was handling the puck and a stick. Yes, that was fun. Yeah, that was a little scary. Uh, but once again, the team leader in possession, Matt Grizzlick. Uh, 21 shot attemp times four, 13 against. That’s a 61.76 uh Corsy4 rating for him. Another really solid game. Uh, and he he had pretty limited minutes too here. He played uh 1619, which isn’t terribly limited. Two shots, three shot attempts, had an assist, and was a plus two. Just another kind of similar to the way that Wyatt Kaiser plays. Now Wyatt Kaiser is much younger, but just calm calm calm calm. Makes the right plays when given the opportunity. Can kind of skate it out of trouble. Makes the smart heads up pass. I’ve noticed him that about him as a skater is he is very he’s very rarely looking at his skates looking at the puck. Yeah. Very confident carrying the puck. Uh I’ve liked his game all year. I liked his game tonight. he is just kind of that safety net they’ve got back there. Uh again, not put up a ton of points despite the assist tonight. Um but just solid and steady for a for a veteran for a veteran that you brought in on a PTO to be giving you this kind of output like there’s not much more you can ask. like he is he has done a lot of good, very little bad. And I I think that that’s that’s what you want when you’re focusing a lot on your young players developing. You don’t want to have to worry about your veterans. Um so Grizzlick’s been a guy that’s been I’ I’ve been very happy and content with with his game and and yeah, again, tonight like it just there were just a few moments where you notice him, but it was all positive. Like there’s I’m I I very rarely have found myself being like like, “Oh my god, Grizzly, what are you doing?” kind of thing. Like you don’t I don’t have to worry about it. Yeah. I don’t which is which is very nice. I don’t know if I could think of a cuz we we’ve had veteran defensemen in Chicago as recently as last year where you were like, “Oh my god, what are you doing?” to the point where Well, look at it. Can’t play you. It happened tonight. you had uh on the on the one of the Conucks power plays, you had Vic and Murphy as your defenseman. Both had the opportunity to clear the puck and try to make an extra pass behind the net or like to, you know, ease the pressure to make it a little better of an outlet play, man. Blast it down those boards. If you don’t if if you’re not sure that your partner has a safe play, then just turn and fire out of there. And those are the two guys you don’t want making mistakes. So, when you see Grizzlike keep it calm, keep it easy, keep things under control. Um, who knows what his long-term future is here. Maybe he’s a deadline moving. I don’t know. Um, but he’s been he’s been perfectly fine all year. if he’s playing like this, like I’m sure a team if the Hawks aren’t pushing for playoffs, if they’re at the deadline and and he’s playing like this and he’s got, you know, good game film and good analytics, I’m sure there’s a team that’ll make a play for him. Sure, absolutely. But hey, the Blackhawks are pushing for the playoffs. You could always you always need defenseman like that. That’s right. So, we’ll see. All right, we’re going to hit the break zone one final time. We are four likes away from Noodle Man being activated again. So, I’m sure we’ll get there within the next 2 minutes. Stick around. Hit that like button. We’ll be back in two on CHDO Blackhawks. Most people don’t know Jack about their finances. How much is in your 401k? What’s your net worth? All that stuff is very elusive. Well, at first, honestly, I didn’t know what that was at first. Indehaticable. Yeah, I don’t like that’s actually Noodle Man’s voice. It’s too hard to say. I don’t like that word. Indeathicable. Well, thanks for the 50 bucks and for the and for the lesson. Yeah, we’ll say persist. Yeah, thank you, Adrian. Now, we you learn something new every day. And Joey P uh says, “St. Lawrence Vikings, class of 2000.” Thank you, class of 96 here. Excited for this team. Go Hawks. Thanks for the five bucks. Uh appreciate that very much, Joey. Also excited. Go Vikings, my friends. Uh, yeah. Good stuff. Vikings. Appreciate that. St. Lawrence Vikings. I am a Viking. My daughter’s a Viking. Different schools. Bear down. Same mascot. Yes. The Minnesota Vikings are not the only Vikings in the world. Are you sure about that? I’m pretty Yes, cuz it’s St. Lawrence Vikings and Homewood Foster Vikings are also the Vikings. Gotcha. That’s just science. All right. That’s all that is. We should talk about Oliver Moore, too. We should. Another good game for him. uh a little bit of a reduction in minutes. He played 16 minutes plus against Seattle 11-10 tonight, ended with an assist, was a plus two. Uh did not register a shot on goal or a shot attempt, but was very much involved in the offense. Uh using that speed, chipping in, chipping pucks loose. Um loved the way he played in this game and nothing I see from him tells me that he needs to go back to Rockford. It’s two games. A slum could come and I think there there has been some conversation in chat about Frank Nazar that we could probably get to as the show goes on here. Um, but speed kills, man. That’s something you can’t teach, something you can’t coach. And, uh, he’s got it in spades. And just aside from the speed, he’s also got the tenacity and the desire to compete. Yeah. That sometimes like pure skill guys don’t have. He said it on the I want to say it was the first intermission uh interview between him and uh our friend Tony Gronado. He said that the team’s identity fits my game. And that like Yeah, true. warmed a part of my heart to hear that because as we talked about kind of in the uh in the pregame, we’ve talked about season after season about identity and what this team is supposed to be, how they want to play and everything. And we’re seeing it now this year. And you see a guy like Oliver Moore step in two games in to this season and he he fits right in. He’s that third line with him and McKay and Donado is like a perfect match because you got speed. You got guys who can go and win pucks. You got guys who will go to the net as evident by uh the the third goal, the McKay goal. Like that was a that was a quintessential like hardchecking team identity goal for for that group. It was fant all three guys exactly what you want out of all out of the three of them. McKay burries the goal. Like that was that was fantastic. I I imagine uh that trio is going to stick around for a while um if they keep playing like that. and and yeah, I mean, Oliver Moore is he’s he’s stepped in these two games and he’s made an impact in both of them. Like that’s that’s really all you can ask for for a guy who’s in the position that he’s in. I got another super chat that just rolled in. Uh we can get to that. That’s from the Italian Ice09 says, “Make me feel better about Arty. He gave me two panic attacks tonight. Give me something good to think about.” Well, again, he was the second highest rated player in terms of possession in this game. Pretty good. Uh he he’s playing well. He Yes, he he made a mistake or two today. Um, a lot of people freaking out cuz he made that up four nothing. You’re up four nothing. I You know what I mean? Like Yeah, he’s he’s It wasn’t a tie game late in the third where he took a chance like All right. Well, yeah. He’s making a play to try and continue to drive offense, which I’m I’m not going to like fault him over that. It’s just kind of one of those things where it’s just like I I would I would like him to observe the game environment of you’re up four nothing. You’ve really controlled that third period. Yeah. You don’t necessarily need to go below the goal line to try and create something as a defenseman. Like I I I applaud trying to be active and trying to continue to push and and put pressure on, but there’s also times where you’re just like, you know what, let’s like we got we got the four nothing lead. We’re controlling a lot of things. Let’s just play smart. Let’s play. Like the more you control the puck, the less that they can try and score. Um but again, like it’s um in that situation, you quote unquote get away with it. But it’s something that I think they would be like, “Let’s be a little bit smarter.” Don’t worry, he is going to hear about it. There is no question. Yeah, for sure. That he’s going to hear about it and they’re gonna show him the tape and say, “See that? Don’t do that.” They’re going to do it on the pinch. They’re going to do it on the slingshot power play that he turned over. This team is coached. It’s the way we started this show. So, there’s no reason to think that 20-year-old Ardum Lechnov, who you knew when you were drafting was going to give you heart attacks frequently. It’s part of his game, especially at this point in his career. But the good has way, way outweighed the bad from Ardam Lov. I would even say like I expected it to be much rougher this year to start the season than it’s been. Especially after like the first couple games he got scratched the second game, the home or the home opener rather, which was the third game, right? Yes. Yeah. Third game of the year, he got scratched for the home opener, which to me was a bit of a message to him. Mhm. Um and it wasn’t a play thing. No, it wasn’t it wasn’t what he was at least from probably was a little bit but yeah I mean I I think anyways make your point. No it’s but I thought by if you thought by game what is this game 14 tonight? This was 14 that this was the first game in two weeks where you or been like oh my god that was a big mistake by Leonov. It has been that long. Yeah. Sure. Have there been moments where h you know maybe there you try to chip it instead of pass it or you’re a little off the money like yes of course you could do that with every player in the NHL every night if you wanted to. He’s not going to play flawless hockey. No one’s going to. But overall his game has been really solid. He’s getting the message. He’s getting the coaching. I don’t have much worry about it. And we we should address there’s a small but loud portion of our chat that’s worried about Frank Nazar. He has not scored in a few games. Was not super noticeable tonight. But this is what young players go through. There’s going to be stretches where a young player either look maybe he’s a little worn out, maybe he’s a little whatever. The other thing you have to think about with Frank Nazar is teams are now taking note of him. Yeah, where he was able to kind of hide in the weeds a little bit before. Wasn’t really a known name. Frank Nazar is a known commodity now and other teams know and and prioritize defending Frank Nazar. So that’s something that he’s going to have to overcome is arrive at the NHL, right? Have a good start to your career. Then you’ve got your first full training camp. Eh, not great. So you don’t make the team. You go back to Rockford. You dominate in Rockford. You come to the NHL, a little bit of a slow start in the NHL, but then you find it, end the season really strong, great preseason this year, great training camp, great start to the year. Now other teams are taking note of Frank Nazar and putting better checkers on him. So now Frank is going to have to use that and the coaching staff will help him work through that. How do you overcome when you’re playing against the team’s better defenders? This is all part of the development process. No young player goes like from zero to the sky in a straight line. It just does not work that way. There’s going to be lols. There’s going to be dips in play and he’s not getting the chances we’re used to. But I also don’t think he’s hurting the team. It doesn’t It’s not like he’s making bad plays or he’s in the wrong place or making horrible decisions. He just hasn’t had the offensive contributions that he typically has. Today he ended up with Did he end up with two shots? Uh yeah, two shots and three shot attempts. Against Seattle, he had two shots, but against Edmonton and Winnipeg, he had five shots in those two games. So, okay, no result on the score sheet in those two with five shots. But if you got five shots most nights, you’re going to end up on the score sheet more often than not. So, I’m not worried about them. I think this is just part of the development, part of the play. Now, if you start seeing him go a week without getting scoring chances, my concern isn’t that Frank Nazar is suddenly bad. It’s that Frank Nazar is maybe banged up a little bit and might need to sit a game or two. And one of the problems you have with young players, as I keep rambling on, is they don’t want to come out and they don’t want to say, “Hey, you know what? couple games ago, my knee didn’t feel right or my ankle’s a little sore. I took a shot off the foot and I’m just not myself. You got to tell a coach if that’s if that’s the case. But I’m no there is zero worry in my mind about Frank Nazar and how he’s going to be this year. He’s been dynamite. Two games where he’s been a little bit less than dynamite is not going to does not worry me. Yeah, there’s there’s going to be es and flows throughout the season. Um, all players go through that. So, I I’m not I’m not necessarily uh worried about his development or definitely not worried about his confidence. Like, he’s a guy that that is a really selfconfident person. Um, so I I I think he has the ability to kind of shake off maybe some uncharacteristic performances and and come back with something, you know, that seems more like the Frank Nazar that we had seen before. And sometimes when when when players get off to, you know, really fast starts or they’re going through a hot streak and it just seems like everything is working for them and then they cool off from that. Sometimes they might have the mentality of like, I just got to like bear down, keep doing some of keep doing the things that I was doing and it’s eventually going to work. Like kind of like banging your head against the wall and hoping the wall gets softer before your head does. Um, but to more often than not, I think the way to get out of that is to just start small. Start doing the small things in your game right to then build yourself back up to where those small things become those bigger moments. And I think if Nazar can do that uh over the next few games, like I think you’re going to get a guy who’s back to that form that we had that we had seen. Um I think there were, you know, some some puck possession plays, not the greatest. Um some defensive plays, again, not the greatest. He’s also taken a lot of hits this season already so far. Him and Bard have taken a lot of hits. I’d like to see that kind of uh scale back a little bit. face first into the boards was not great for Yeah, that was not ideal. Uh he also went barreling into uh Kevin Lanken at one point. That was I mean he’s he’s trying to score, but like um yeah, I I’d like those guys to take less of those kinds of hits, but can’t fault him for trying. Um but what’s good is you you’ve got a game coming up now on Friday against Calgary. Don’t want to get ahead of yourself, but that’s uh that’s a good matchup on this road trip. And then Nazar gets to play as Badard played in his hometown tonight. Nazar gets to play in his hometown on Sunday to close the road trip. So these are two good opportunities and good games for him to kind of have a have a kind of like a little bit of a reset here. Yeah. and reset the mindset, get back to like those simple things, those small things, get those in order, and then I would imagine the rest of that game will come back to him. Yeah. I mean, it’s also important to remember this is probably the longest road trip he’s ever been on, right? This game’s in Yeah. in this style. They’ve been gone a long time and like college doesn’t they didn’t have one of these last year uh at all uh where they were gone this long. Mh. Uh, so that’s that’s an adjustment, too. And I think these young players I think we we think of this as young players adjust to the NHL when between the, you know, opening faceoff and final horn, it’s all about learning how to survive. I mean, that was a whole other thing with Conor Bard is they joked about like we have to hide his skates in a stick cuz he won’t get off the ice. But that was real. like we were there his first two years in league in the locker room and it’s like where is he? Why is everyone here ready to go and he’s not like he’s out there shooting pucks and that’s great. You don’t want to coach that out of him but you’ve got to like reserve your energy a little bit and I think Nazar is probably learning a little bit to how to handle road life, how to get your sleeping habits right, how to schedule your naps. Alex Vastic has been in the league for three years and basically this year has just started napping as part of a routine because he learned like, okay, you know what, the grind of the season is I see it getting to me. So, as much as I don’t love napping, I’ve got to figure out how to make it part of my routine. Look at Ryan Donado in his third or fourth team made adjustments to his game and become the guy he is now. These guys are always learning. So, let’s give Frank a little bit of slack. I also don’t think that anyone expected him to be a point per game player his first full season. No one thought that. No one. And he still has what 11 points in 14 games. Yeah. Still very very good. Yeah. He’s Frank Nazar is going to be fine. He’s going to be fine. The only thing I would caution is that and again I mentioned this, but if he’s not feeling 100% physically, he’s got to let somebody know about it. Missing a game is not the end of the world. if it’s going to sustain you long term so you can play the whole season. We had the same lecture with Jason Dickinson uh that last time he left the game like stop trying to tough things out because at some point you’re hurting the team. I don’t think he’s hurt but if he is voice it and let the coaches know. Absolutely. So we had a super chat new one come in. All right from Samuel Samuel says I know it’s still early but Florida is still not playing well. What are the chances that pick becomes a lottery pick? Also, when do you think Lardis comes up? Well, uh, the Lardis question is an interesting one. We’ve talked about that. What is that yesterday on the show? We talked a little bit about that. I think if with Oliver Moore up here, Nick Lardis is probably the next guy up from Rockford when I would imagine it does happen. Yep. Um, I just really don’t know the timeline of that, but probably sooner than we expected. And the Florida thing, not going to bank that Florida is a lottery team this year. No, they do have the worst record in the uh the worst point total in the East. Uh they have 13 points, but they’re also uh two points out of the final wild card spot. So, it’s anybody’s game. It’s all very bunched up there. You’ve got them with 13. The Rangers, Sabres, Senators, Lightning, Blue Jackets, and Islanders have 14. The Flyers have 15. The Caps have the last wild card spot with 15. The Bruins have 16 points. Like, they’re also It’s still a lot of season to shake out. They’re four points behind Toronto, who have the third spot in the Atlantic. You’re also going to get Matthew Kachchuck back and Yeah. in the winter. They’ll be fine. I Yeah, I think they’ll be okay. Yes, I think I’m not too worried. But yeah, I the largest thing I know every player is different, but I think one thing that the Oliver Moore call up has told us is, and we mentioned this in a pregame, too, is that they’re trying to win. And if they feel like Nick Lardis is going to give them an opportunity to win, then he’s going to come up. And Germany Hawks fan says if Lordis comes up, who sits? No one has to sit. They could do the 12 and six. Well, then you’re sitting at a defenseman. Okay. Are you sitting Murphy? No, I sick crevier. I I know I know he’s been better than everybody expected him to be, but you know, I don’t know. I’m not I think we’re all very comfortable with him being the seventh defenseman sitting in a press box most nights this year. And who do I think helps to Hawks more right now? Nick Lordis or Lou Krevier? It’s Nick Artis. So, and look, you could put him in, take him out. Maybe maybe if Lev has a they want to send another message to Lev. I wouldn’t do this, but I don’t know what Jeff Lashwell has in mind for him. If he wants to say two horrible mistakes today, you’re sitting again. I don’t know. But look, they’ll figure it out. This is something we have seen from Kyle Davidson, no matter who the coach has been, that if it’s time for someone to come and play, they will play. Last year they figured out with Nazar they waved Joey Anderson. Whoa. Fine. Last year they when uh Renzel and Lefchon came TJ Brody just didn’t play for the end of the year. They figured it out. They will figure out a way to get Nick Lardis here if they deem he’s ready. So yeah. I just with with Lardis I think my thought was just like okay by March I think is is when we’ll see him. That but that was at the beginning of the season. in training camp. The way he’s gotten off to this start, the way that they’ve treated the Oliver Mo call up. Um, I mean, injuries happen. Not that you want them to, but they do. So, that I mean, that was Oliver Moore’s opportunity. So, Nick Lardis’ opportunity could come early with, you know, be it an injury or something. But I think the way the way that he’s off to his rookie season, the way the Hawks are off to their season, it’s it’s just a matter of time. And I don’t think it’s going to be all the way till March. I think is it before the Olympic break? Probably. I would say so. Yeah. Yeah. I I would say by early February there’s going to be an opportunity for Nick Lardis to be up. Yeah. And it doesn’t have to be permanent. It could be a stretch of two or three like someone’s going to get banged up. Someone’s going to miss some time. Someone’s going to have to sit. Someone’s going to have something in their personal lives where they have to miss a couple games. Call them up, give them a look, see what happens. I don’t, you know, these things are always undoable. You can always send more. You can always send Lordis. You can always send whoever back, right? Like, so I don’t I don’t I don’t worry about I have enough faith in Kyle Davidson and his almost like demented way of thinking about the rebuild where it’s like must have all prospects, must develop everybody. He’s not going to call a guy up just cuz he wants to see him play. If he doesn’t think someone’s ready, they’re not going to be up. Kevin Kinsky is the exception, but it was because of the situ. It was a situational thing, right? He had to play in the NHL or in a WHL. Maybe if you asked him over a beer, would you do that again? Maybe they would say no. Maybe he plays another year in Seattle. I don’t know, right? But aside from that, he’s I think he’s had shown pretty good patience and plan with his young players. There’s no need to rush Lardis here, but I think it’s I was with you. I was thinking March, but the way they so quickly got to Oliver Moore makes me think, ooh, yeah. As soon as they deem we’ve seen enough, he’s coming up here. So, all right. Should we go to the fret house? Yes, let’s do it. Our featured frat boy today is Spencer Knight. 43 saves, two goals against, and an assist on Conor Bernard’s empty net goal. What a game. Congratulations to Spencer Knight. And now Sarah, do we have a winner for the game? Is it also Spencer Knights? I’m going to imagine it is. Is it Spencer Knight? I I No. Tyler Batusi. What were the percentages? I didn’t see him. I’m sorry if you sent him. I checked, but I do know he was up. Okay. So, yeah. 54% Tyler Batuzzi, 46% Spencer Knight. I figured it would be over 350 votes. That’s pretty good. All right. Tyler Buzzi is being entered on on most nights that Spencer Knight is is in net. He is deserving of a game puck nomination and deserving of of the win. Um I believe his goals save above expected tonight that was huge was three. Let me find it. Starts with a three which is pretty freaking impressive. The expected goals 3.22 22 goals saved above expected tonight. For uh 18 high danger saves, 43 saves on 45 shots and the assist. Like this, we’ve said it before, it was evident in these last two games. This team is completely different when Spencer Knight is playing. Not only does the team play differently, you can trust what they you you could trust the guy in the net to make the extra save. Yeah. that you’re that is above average. Um, and I yeah, I just I just think that they play with a different confidence at both ends of the ice when when Spencer Knight’s out there. And I I I try not to say that and take away from Arvit Sloom because he hasn’t been terrible this year. Yeah. But it’s just to that level that Spencer Knight is at is a completely different echelon. Um, and you know, people in the pregame were like, are we worried about Spencer Knight playing too much? like he wants to he wants to play like 70 games. Like he wants to do the old Carrie Price, I’m going to play 73 games this year kind of thing, right? Only a handful of goalenders do that now as the league has kind of gone a little bit more towards tandem work, but he’s a guy, he’s young and he has the desire to play that many games. He’s getting the opportunity to do it and he’s running with it. You said it was a 3.2 goal saved above expected. Yes, according to Money Puck. So that brings him to 10.4, which is third best in the league behind Logan Thompson, Lucas Doall, and Counterhell Buck. Actually, no. Makes him third in the league above Counter Hellabuk. And goal save above expect. Yeah. Yeah. Take that. So that I mean, there you go. That’s a guy you want playing every night you can. and I go right back to him against Calgary because you get that win and you’re feeling really good about things regardless of what happens against Detroit if you beat Calgary and you beat uh Vancouver back to back. That is a successful trip. Mhm. That means you’ve taken five points at least on this trip and that’s if he certainly if he feels rested and good to go, roll with it for sure. 100%. We do have postgame video. Do we want to go overtime for it? I don’t mind going overtime. It’s this late anyway. What’s the difference? That’s a good question. Uh, let’s see if we can get it pull up. Two more minutes. Still got to go two more minutes. Yeah. Well, we’ll go two more minutes and then we’ll go overtime. Oh, and Jeff Blash is only three minutes. So, see, look at that. Perfect. So, it’ll be it’ll be short overtime. A short overtime. Yeah. I’m trying to look for anything else that like I we should mention by the way Evander Kane who scored for Vancouver Mhm. had 10 shots on goal tonight. Jeez, that’s crazy. 10 shots on goal, 13 shot attempts. He got 45 as a team. Uh yeah, someone’s someone’s got to have it. I think Connor Garland had seven. Seven for Garland. Yeah. Yeah, that’s good for my fantasy team. Um yeah, I mean they look Vancouver that second period they were all over the Hawks and you know they had to endure some penalty killing. The Hawks did. First one was shaky but they got through it. Second one was a lot better. Um, and that was I mean that was a big penalty kill uh late in that second period because I mean you could just feel like the Conucks had all the momentum and they were, you know, peppering Spencer Knight and they were zipping the puck around. It just really felt like the Blackhawks couldn’t do anything to like really stifle them and and Spencer Knight stood on his head and then they get that big penalty kill, you get out of the period and then you have the third that you did. like it was that was a big factor in keeping this game close. Yeah, I am I’m interested to see what Blast has to say because it was for a large portion of this game incredibly frustrating because we it was some of the stuff we saw against Seattle that was frustrating seep over into this one. Yeah. Um and eventually they pull themselves out of it. But, um, I’m I’m interested to see how Blash I mean, I will say the games where I’ve expected him to to be kind of pissed, he hasn’t been. I think he just kind of if he does have that Well, we know he has a red ass, but if he shows it, he shows it behind the scenes, which I think the players do appreciate. They don’t want to hear it. Uh, we’re going to go to overtime right now. By the way, if you’re watching on one of the fast channels, uh, switch over to lcho.com to watch the rest of the show. Yes. Um, we’re going to hear from Jeff Flashel here in a moment. Um, but if he does have that red ass, I think he shows it behind the scenes, which players seem to, in my experience, well, he definitely they like they like that not getting blasted in the media. We’ve we’ve seen it on the bench, which a lot of people wanted to see uh out of Blackhawks coaches in the last few years. So, you’re getting it with Blash. And I think the players do respond to that. I think they want to see a coach that is going to have the emotion in the moments that that they can feel too. And whether it’s, you know, digging into them in an intermission or it’s, you know, sticking up for them, uh, listening to them on on the bench, whether it’s, hey, why is that a penalty? Why is that not a penalty? You know, time and place mf and referees or whatever. Like, players players feed off of that. you want to see a coach have your players back when you’re when you’re in that position. And um he got his first uh first challenge win of the season tonight on a very clear easy to call no doubt goalender interference. There is no no doubt goalender interference anymore. But that one was there’s not that one was does not exist. I was going to chuck both of our televisions that we were watching. But how confident were you that they were going to get it right? I had like 2%. I thought for sure they were going to overturn. They were going to make that coal stand. Yeah, I knew it shouldn’t. There was no way it should have, but dude, that Tyler Buzzi disallowed goal against Vancouver has shaken my faith. I mean, not that I had much left anyway. Yeah, I was going to say, but it is shaken my belief in the NHL’s ability to get a call right. All right, we’re going to play Jeff Flashel. We are also 28 likes away from 500. If you’ve not hit it yet, hit that like button. If we’re if it’s done by the time we’re back from Blash, Noodle Man will play us off one more Noodle Man for the rest of the show. But here’s Jeff Blash postgame courtesy of the Chicago Blackhawks. After a second period like that, what do you tell your team and and and what do you get and respond in that way? Oh, I just, you know, like we we hadn’t played our best, I don’t think, at that point in the game. Um, you know, so I I think the chances were 9 to3 them. So, it’s obviously a one-sided that way. Um, but at the end of the day, we’re we’re making corrections. We’re teaching, we’re learning, and we’re saying it’s 000. Let’s go find a way to win the hockey game. And I don’t think you can, you know, overreact necessarily. I don’t think it was like a lack of want or care or effort. So, then it’s about, you know, correcting mistakes and uh finding a way to go out and uh uh and and do a better job. I thought we were really good in the third and I thought, you know, we talked about good teams find a way to win this game. You’re on the road, it’s 000. You you probably haven’t played your best. Go have a great period. I thought we did. What did you see from Forusi? I feel like that’s kind of a vintage performance right around the net. Tell you, you know, you look throughout the course of the year, Bird has really competed, he’s worked, he’s been on pucks. Um, you know, I think he’s a guy you appreciate more from ice level than you might from up top. Um, you know, skating doesn’t always look great, but man, he wins pucks. He he’s and that’s kind of who he’s always been for me. Um, you know, he’s great on that back post. He’s really learned over over the years how to build a wall in that back post and and you know, people shoot for it and if they go in, it’s a great way to score. So, um, you know, Bert Bert for me has been very good all season and he had another good one tonight. Spencer Knight got a second stake on the play tonight. Yeah, you know, Spence played really well like um uh you know, I think he’s consistently been been a real good goalie for us. I think, you know, the one thing we do do is we contest a lot of those shots because of uh we give up chances in those areas, but we do contest a lot of them because of the length of our decor. Um we’ve done a decent job of stopping in the slot. Um but he’s been really good. Um you know, he’s he’s done a good job finding pucks through traffic. Uh he’s done a good job of when we when we aren’t playing our best, finding a way to keep us in the game and then gives you a chance to win. Playing again today, even on the empty net goal, the outrage is, you know, for years to get to it. Yeah. Yeah. I think I think uh you know Connor I think has been consistently game in and game out uh committed to winning hockey. He’s been uh he’s he’s competed extraordinarily hard. He’s he’s done all the kind of winning things. He hasn’t been perfect but man he’s done a lot of good winning hockey habits. Uh and he’s been rewarded offensively because of it and I think we’ve been rewarded as a team because of it. So um you know really impressed with uh kind of the approach he’s taken all season long. Your first successful challenge. Was that a easy call? Was that the first? Uh I I could be wrong. Yeah. No. Yeah, it was actually. Uh although I think we could argue I whatever. Um uh you know, was it an easy call? When when I looked at it, it felt like it was going to be an easy call. Like I had no reservations challenging it. I can tell you that. Um you know, it’s still hard. It’s a rule. As much as everybody wants to be black and white, it’s not. It’s gray. So, you just never really know for sure. But it did feel like uh like we were going to win the challenge. That was a big moment, obviously. Um, you know, you win that challenge, now it stays 000. It’s good. To get goals off the board, it’s a huge thing. Is uh Jeff Flash, courtesy of the Chicago Blackhawks. And very sadly, we did not get to 500 likes. Oh, we’re still six away. Well, you know what? We can’t just be giving away Noodle Man left and right willy-nilly when it hasn’t been earned. Five likes. If you want to earn it, five more likes. But we’re wrapping up the show right now. So, one final reminder to hit that like button. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube page. And guess what? The Hawks are getting hot. They’re starting to get some attention. Chicago sports. The Bulls are six and one. The Bears are winning games they shouldn’t win. The Hawks are good all of a sudden. Things are good here. Tell your friends about us. Next time you’re at the bar, next time you’re at your friend’s house talking sports. One like way, tell them about CHGO Sports. It helps us out big time. I know there’s one person out there. They’re not doing it. All right. Oh, big jump. Yeah. All right. Can we get to 600? Thank you for hitting the like bucket button. Thanks for getting us over 500. We love you very much. It is almost 1:00 a.m. on a on a Thursday morning. and we got to over 500 likes. Thank you so much. We will talk to you well technically tomorrow. We have a mini pod coming out Thursday. Where are all the nay sayers when we hired Blashill now…ha ha ha….BEDARD…90 to 100 points ? wow
Spence in net def gives the guys more breathing space… if Mrazek butterfingers was still around and in net canucks would be up by 40 goals and everyone would have ptsd
Lets Go Hawks!!!!
I always knew with proper coaching, Chicago could be a formidable team
Why are they so bad in the second period?
Guys if you're going to do noodle man, you got to add some intro bumping music
Id like to see Dach do a little more of what Bertuzzi does
