Jets Benching Quincy Williams

  1. So Dallas wanted him as well and instead of getting anything, we keep him, just to bench him. Jets.

  2. There had to have been an attempt to trade him, right?

Aaron Glenn can’t be THAT over his head, right?

  3. Alternative timeline we keep all are players, win every game, make the playoffs, and win the Superbowl

  4. All of our LBs have been ass. This feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic

  5. Wild move. He just came back from IR and helped get them their ONLY win. He must have said something about them trading his brother, and this is retaliation.

    More cowardly bs from Woody

  6. I mean, I get we’re rebuilding but you should have just traded him yesterday. Even if you didn’t get the return you would have ideally wanted. Refuse to think they couldn’t have gotten something for him. He’s plenty talented and would fit well with the right team. I don’t agree with tanking someone’s career like this.

  7. might not want to admit it. But Saleh scheme definitely covered some of our “elite” players deficiencies. Crazy how some of our more elite defensive players have regressed.

  8. None of this matters because Glenn is gonna trick everyone by not naming the starting QB. Easy…we win all the rest of the games with this little known coaching hack.

  9. He’s not going to be on the team next year, they had to pay Quincy or Sherwood and we picked Sherwood. Might as well give Mauigoa some run and see if he can play next to Sherwood moving forward.

Can’t believe we didn’t just move Quincy for whatever we could get

  10. If it’s not purely a football related move… I saw a convo yesterday on one of the sports talk shows or podcasts I listen to bringing up a good point. If they are in fact tanking it shouldnt be surprising to expect some guys to make business decisions and suddenly have a injured back/hammy and miss time so they don’t risk injury and hurt their next payday if they don’t see a future on this roster beyond this year.

I was expecting Breece to be the first in that regard.

  11. I really am getting discouraged about this current regime. This man was an all-pro level player two years ago, and now he’s worse than a 4th round rookie? This seems much more like a scheme and coaching failure than a player failure.

Not only that, but if you’re not planning on playing him, why not try to trade him? Even a conditional 7th would be better than him rotting on the bench and then leaving for nothing (we’re not getting a comp pick if we sign more players in free agency). Surely the 49ers would be willing to take on a cheap reclamation project in Saleh’s scheme given their injuries at linebacker. The Falcons with Jeff Ulbrich might try the same. It just doesn’t make sense for a 29 year old former all-pro, who hasn’t seemed that bad this year, to be totally worthless.

I don’t know how you can look at our performance and not be worried about this team’s ability to develop the high draft picks they just acquired. We’ve now seen multiple players who were elite in another scheme underperform with our current staff and then shipped off or benched. If this keeps happening, maybe the problem is with the coaches, not the players.

  12. How much you want to bet it’s a I’m not playing without my brother type thing, makes no sense if the team did this and not Quincy himself

  13. Anyone saying he’s great or our best LB hasn’t watched film this years he’s made a couple splash plays but he’s been AWFUL with timing and tackling, the two things he was amazing at in the past

  14. Sherwood might be worse but LB has been the biggest weakness by far this year and that’s saying something. How many play action boots have they been wrecked by? Every gameplan looks the same.

Some of that is scheme and having the DE crash every time but mainly Sherwood and Q playing awful. Last years run D was also atrocious and these 2 should take some blame.

  15. Maybe he was upset about his brother being traded, and this is a disciplinary thing that they are not letting on.

  16. I mean I’m not exactly gonna cry over a 5th round pick but then why wouldn’t you trade him yesterday?

  17. Jets can lose with him or lose without him. Also they can force 0 fumbles and 0 interceptions with him or without him. Using a different player may change the outcome. Not much to lose.

Hopefully he gets fired up and shows in practice that he belongs on the field in games.

  18. Not sure what people are really confused about here. We are going full tank and rebuild on the defensive side of the ball.

He doesn’t fit our scheme, has regressed, doesn’t want to be here. Bench and let him walk, play the young guys you drafted and give them some reps to find out what you have.

Our defense is going through a major scheme fit change. There will be changes.

But again the biggest thing is: we are going full tank

  19. We know what we have with Quincy. He’s in the final year. Let’s see what someone who will be here next year can do.

  20. Tank in progress….kidding aside, they’re 1-7, and he isn’t paying well and he’s gone next year. So why not see who else can possibly fill a LB slot next year?

  21. It’s crazy how logically you would think the Niners would throw something at getting him (and Quinnen for that matter) because they are still in contention and they lost both Bosa and Warner.

Both Williams were AP’s under Saleh. Looks like a natural fit.

Then you remember that Lynch and Shanahan have forgotten more about talent evaluation than I will ever know.

  22. He’s regressed. And pass coverage hasn’t been great. And we are tanking anyway. Not getting worked up

  23. He and Sherwood have been disappointments. Q can go to Dallas and play with Q. Time to move on.

  24. That dude has to be 10 feet deep in his feelings right now. Followed his bro to a team, lived his dream, signed an extension, saw his teammate get paid, then the season goes to shit, his brother gets traded & he gets benched.

Fuck me, that dude can’t be in a good headspace right now.

  25. Mougey couldn’t move him because the league has figured out the same thing this coaching staff has: he’s never recapturing that 2023 form. He’s a huge boot or bust linebacker who sells out for big plays but whose gap responsibility and pass coverage are lacking. He’s peaked and now seems to be reverting to that fringe starter/special teamer he was a few years ago.
