The Giants should sign this guy! High contact switch-hitting 2B fits so well with this roster. I'd expect them to pursue.

  1. Also played in Seattle which has similar problems we have with power hitting and still hit 26.

  2. He was their primary DH, had just 34 starts at second base because of knee issues, and had surgery last October. It’s not a good fit.

  3. I don’t think OP even read the article:

“It wasn’t a perfect season. Ongoing knee problems kept him mostly in the designated hitter spot, though he appeared to get healthier as the year wore on. He made just 34 starts at second base but most of those were after the All-Star break, including 15 in September”

    Another DH??? No thanks!

  4. Assuming his leg problems ease up and he can start 120+ games at second base, he’s probably a modest upgrade (unless Schmitty balls out 🤞)

But unless the team is going to blow past the luxury tax, I’d rather see the $15M+ that it’d likely take for Polanco to go to closer/high-leverage reliever with closer experience.

Again, the Giants *could* spend enough to get two starting pitchers, two great bullpens arms, *and* a guy like Polanco. But if not, a guy like Polanco would be fifth on my “to do list” for off-season acquisitions
