Today is November 6th!

Gosger got $100 for his playoff share for the 1969 championship Mets. The Mets traded him and Bob Heise to the San Francisco Giants for Ray Sadecki and Dave Marshall on December 12, 1969.

With a day to reflect on it, if retaining Richardson would have meant not brining in Snitker or Willard I’d easily let him go for them
Looking more into Richardson career I’m skeptical as to how much he alone was the “secret sauce” of the 2025 Mets stealing compared to an organizational process that he was just a part of
Obviously that doesn’t play as pretty in the media lol
Also the fact the jump in steal success comes out to slightly less than 1 win overall in value as doesn’t fit the media narrative
With him for 4 years the Giants were always bottom have in steals and baserunning, and bottom 5 multiple of those years
The Mets were a below average baserunning team with him in 2024 as well
If Richardson was this fool proof perfect stealing coach, why did his stuff only work in 2025 and no other year?
We also don’t know that stealing strategy will work long term. The league already started to wise up to the Mets last year as their success rate dropped significantly in September
And their overall baserunning outside of steals wasnt good. They rated terribly at first to third and second to home.
Richardson was also in charge of outfield defense, of which the Mets were terrible. Most of their outfielders regressed and the only one to improve was Soto who has his own personal defense coach.
Richardson overplayed his hand wanting a record breaking contract with opt outs and expected the Mets would just hold the pension for him. He couldn’t find even the Mets offer anywhere and by the time he came back to the Mets there was no pension available.
And in the end the Mets may have a better coaching staff for it.
Jim Gosger: still not dead
Low key the most iconic LOLMets moments, the ones that you can actually just laugh at in hindsight, aren’t ones that happen during games. Declaring 2 members of the 1969 Mets dead during the 50th anniversary celebration might be the best one of them all.
My personal top 3 would be that, Omar Minaya publicly implying that Adam Rubin’s article on Tony Bernazard had an ulterior motive, and Mike Piazza holding a press conference to announce that he’s not gay
I’ve been reading some articles about the Mets possibly being in on Bregman as a replacement for Pete (obviously not a one to one). I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, he’s not as productive offensively as Pete. On the other, he’s a significantly better defender.
Also, should we let Pete walk, who do we move to 1b? You don’t want to move the guy you pickup for his defensive toolkit out of his native position right? So Bregman would be at 3b. Vientos to 1b? Does Baty get reps at 1b, assuming he isn’t traded for Skubal?
How are people feeling about this?
Today marks 5 years since Cohen said not winning a World Series in 3-5 years would be disappointing.
anyone ever caught a foul ball at a mets game before?
i got one once at a doubleheader in 2006. ray durham lined a foul ball off of tom glavine, and it hit the guy next to me. i picked up while he was in a state of shock. i probably should’ve given it to him, but i was 11 years old and didn’t have an empathetic heart.
Word is Dodgers are going to be very aggressive for a back of the bullpen arm. I know people here don’t think the dodgers will go after Diaz, but I certainly think they will. They won 2 World Series back-to-back, have a top farm and the only weak spot on their team is the bullpen right now. Their lineup is going begin aging, and they are going to go all in for #3 in my opinion. I still think the Mets are in good position to resign him, but stressful when 2 or our best hitters are free agents and we don’t know how our team views them going forward.
Imagine the Dodgers with Edwin Diaz. Just unfair.
Mike Mayer “The Spring Breakout games continue in 2026.
The Mets will host the Rays on March 19.”
“Mets prospects Nick Morabito and Chris Suero have been selected to play in the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars game.
Morabito has a .907 OPS and 13 steals in 14 games.
Suero has 5 home runs and 7 steals in 53 at-bats.”
Just curious, has anyone gone to Spring Training? Any advice on tickets, hotels would be appreciated!
Thinking of giving this as a gift to my older two sons for Christmas as they’ve reached the ages where they are more into experiences rather than toys. Also gives me the excuse to get some Florida sunshine in during a long winter
Manaea, McNeil, and Senga are all guys that make sense to trade to clear up some money and allow Stearns to build the team he wants to. This is an unpopular opinion among Met fans, but Nimmo should also be included there. I know he’s been with the organization his whole career and that he’s a fan favorite. Trust me I love him as much as any other Met fans, but the last 5 years of his contract at 20 mil per year will age like milk. He can’t run or play defense anymore. He’s most valuable as a DH, and with Soto around, and hopefully a Pete extension, that DH spot gets crowded. Maybe there’s a deal to be made with Arizona where Ketel Marte and Brandon Nimmos contracts are swapped, with Uncle Steve picking up the difference (unrealistic but just an idea). This might be a move more for next offseason than this offseason, but I’d say if they wait anymore than 2 years to trade Nimmo that’s a mistake.
As someone who only recently got into baseball the last couple years, not much happens in free agency until the winter meetings right? Like we shouldn’t expect any updates on Alonso, Diaz, and others for a while?

All the hysterics about Antoan Richardson leaving and it turns out we lost him because of some obscure rule about pension that literally 0 people on this sub were aware of lmao.
I was joking before, but I’m starting to think seriously, why *not* Wally Backman as first base coach? This team needs to show fight.
I’m just curious who does & who doesn’t get a Qualifying Offer today. Sure there’s plenty speculation on the likely but will be cool to see who is actually tagged going into FA.
