Miami Dolphins BENCHING Tua Tagovailoa For Quinn Ewers This Season? MAJOR Dolphins Rumors

[Music] There is a realistic outcome where Tua Tongavaloa gets benched by the Miami Dolphins this year in favor of the rookie seventhround pick Quinn Ears. There’s a lot to discuss on this episode. I’m Nick Rolloloff. Let’s get into the report from Ian Rapaort that came out this past Saturday in an article prior to the deadline and the week nine Sunday games. Rapport said in his article that if nothing changes, it is reasonable that Miami would consider a QB change to a play would have to really fall off for Miami to turn to either Wilson or Quinny Rers. But a potential benching is not off the table at some point this season. And if you’re going to be real honest with yourself here, I don’t care if you are someone who hates Tua. I don’t care if you are someone who is the biggest Tua supporter of all time, you have to come and meet in the middle and come to the realization that this is not crazy to say. Miami is 2 and seven. This season is going nowhere. And if they ultimately are knocked out of playoff contention in the next month, why would you not experiment with a rookie seventh rounder and Quinn Ears for the final couple two, three weeks of the season? It’s a real thing that we need to talk about and I want to get your thoughts in the comments on the matter. Should the Dolphins bench Tua pin comment on today’s show? Type Y for yes or type N for no. I mean, let’s call a spade a spade here, folks. Tua has been absolutely terrible and he is probably a bottom five, bottom seven quarterback in the NFL this season. Like it just hasn’t been pretty. He leads the NFL interceptions with 11 through the nine games. And it’s honestly ironic, too, because all we’ve asked for Tua is to not get hurt, play a full season, and here we are halfway through this year and he’s playing every game. And you’re like, well, we should be happy about that. Yet the numbers and the play on the field has absolutely decreased. And and I want to make this abundantly clear by the way. Like I know the Dolphins are two and seven and two of stats, interceptions, other numbers, they’re down, they’re terrible. Like that’s not the only reason why we’re having these type of conversations about potentially moving on from Tua. You watch the tape, you watch the games, you watch the film. The decline in play as well as confidence in Tua is so like appalling. It just jumps off the film. The confidence he has I think is absolutely shaken. I really do. And it feels like every week there is a play where Tua looks awesome. There’s also a play where it’s like an NFL starting quarterback can’t make that play. Like seriously, there was a play against the Ravens on Thursday Night Football. Two is not the reason why you lost that game, but it’s just an example of what I’m talking about. Unblock Blitzer from the right side. They overloaded the right side of the O line. Blitzer came free. Tua recognizes this, takes the snap, and immediately scrambles to his left, but he takes two steps to his left and then just dirts the ball into the ground. And it’s an intentional grounding. When you watch the tape, you watch the film, the unblocked edge rusher was still probably about four or five steps away from him and there was nothing but green grass over there. So Tua not only didn’t have the confidence in himself to be able to scramble and evade the pass rusher from behind, he didn’t have the ability and confidence himself to stretch the play and find someone down the field. He just ded the ball. And having a quarterback that is not able to do that nor even takes the chances of running or making a play out of structure is holding this football team back. And it’s another reason why the future of Tua is very uncertain in Miami. And I want to show this again because Ian Raport wrote that first excerpt in an article on Saturday. Well, on Sunday morning, prior to games, he doubled down, saying there is a real chance now the Dolphins replace Tua as QB. He is now playing to keep his job, not only for this season, but for next year and beyond. If this continues, do not be surprised later in the season if they go to one of his backups, referring to either Zach Wilson or Quinn Eagles. Like, you hear Ian Rapaort say it twice. That’s a lot of smoke. Now, he is obviously being told information. I don’t know who is telling him this. Would it be Mike McDaniel? Would it be interimm GM Champ Kelly? Would it be former GM Chris Greer since he is no longer employed? I don’t know. But where there is a lot of smoke, there is fire. And for a rap report to say it twice in a 48 hour span that Tua could be benched not only this season but he’s also playing for his future in Miami tells you how critical the next month this November against the Bills Commanders and Saints coming out of the bye-week. If Tua and the Dolphins do not win and Tua plays poorly in the month of November, I think we’re seeing backup quarterbacks in December. I also think there’s a real possibility that it has already been discussed between Mike McDaniel and Tua that a change at quarterback could be made. Why do I believe that? Well, this week, Monday, as well as today, when Tua spoke to the media, Mike McDaniel openly discussed making a change at quarterback on Monday and Tu responded a little bit on Wednesday, which tells me I feel like there’s been a conversation. Mike with Daniel on Monday saying that he is far from even going that direction or would could have possible things. When a player doesn’t give you the best chance to win, you adjust. We play the players who give us the best chance to win. If that changes, we adjust there. As a franchise quarterback, we’ve shown our belief in him by putting resources toward him. All things in football are on the table. For conjectures for a headline, I don’t see how that helps the Miami Dolphins. And I actually do agree with Mike McDaniel, but I think there are a couple key points that Mike said that really indicates that a change could be on the horizon. As I’m looking back at the quote here, we play the players who give us the best chance to win. If that changes, we adjust there. So obviously signifying that like, hey, if ultimately the Dolphins feel like Quinners or Zach Wilson gives them the best chance to win, that’s who they play. But also, how about this? What the best chances for the future of the franchise? You’re telling me the Dolphins go 0 and4 over the next four games? 0 and4. They only have eight games left, folks. They four. They’re sitting at two and 13 with the or two and 11 with the final four games to go. You’re trying to tell me that it’s not smart to put in Quinn. Like, if the Dolphins are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, why not see what you have in the seventh round rookie for the final month of the year? Like I’ve seen some people say, “Yeah, when the season’s over, start Quinn for week 17 and week 18 against the Buccaneers and Patriots.” Like, cool. Yeah, sure. But why not do it for the entire month? Like, I’m willing to bet good chunk of money that Miami is already eliminated from playoff contention, literally, not figuratively, literally, by their first game in December. And if that’s the case, well then why on God’s green earth are you playing Tua? I think it’s smart to bench Tua in that scenario. One, you don’t want to risk further injury because if you truly are looking to move off of Tua, there is a slimmer of hope where maybe you trade him in the offseason to a team that would like to take the chance on the former top five pick. You don’t want him to get hurt again. He gets hurt again. Well, then there’s really no value there. You also are allowed to evaluate Quinny in totality. Like I don’t believe he is a franchise quarterback, but you never know. What if he comes in in the final month of the year, lights it up in Miami, wins a couple ball games? Is that best for the future? Probably not because it ruins the draft position. But you would at least have a belief that you could actually wait on drafting a quarterback a year. Don’t force one this year when the class isn’t that strong. and see maybe if bridge quarterback is an option for Quinny Rivers next year. Very possible. I also think it’s a good learning tool to see how Mike McDaniel would be as your head coach with Tua not as quarterback. Tua has been the quarterback for Mike McDaniel every year and we look at the numbers when Tua doesn’t play. Mike McDaniel’s record is terrible in comparison to when Tua does play. Now, it’s coming more even now because of the season. But in the first three years of McDaniel’s career in Miami, the stark difference of when Tu is on the field verse when he’s not is crazy different. And now you get an opportunity to see how he coaches. He calls plays with a quarterback that might not be as limited athletically and arm talentwise as Tua is. I mean, it was only like 12 plays, so it’s not really the biggest deal in the world. And I’m not going to overanalyze 12 snaps by a seventh round rookie in a game that was already decided by four scores. And you do see the talent displays. Like, I’ll go back to it. Yeah, he missed an easy throw to Jaylen Wadd on a 15- yard out route and he almost threw a pick on the first play of the game that he was in, but he also stood in the pocket with a barreling defensive tackle coming right on his grill off the snap because Jonah Savvy and I got put on his ass instantly and Quinny was fired a 40-yard dot down the sideline. The D Escridge perfectly placed. That’s just something Tua is incapable of doing. Like I hate to say it, the Dolphins have a starting quarterback that with a defensive lineman in their face leaping at them coming at their feet is unable to throw a 40 yard pass down the God’s honest truth. Eers not very good, very inaccurate decision-m footwork not good right now, but he can do those type of throws, which is why you wonder if it’s best to develop him in the month of December and see what he can do. and Tuo was kind of asked about a change potentially at quarterback saying that I wouldn’t say I’m playing to keep my job. I’d say I’m playing to help the team win. If you’re looking at it in that sense, I would say my performance needs to be better and my performance doesn’t reflect me trying to keep my job because that’s not the standard at which I’ve been playing at all these other years. And I got to be honest with Tua, I I do somewhat appreciate the honesty here because he is admitting that he has not been good this year. And I think it would be really narcissistic, if that’s a word. Um, it is. I knew narcissist was a word. I didn’t know if Martin narcissistic was a word. I make up a lot of words on this show as you guys probably know. Uh, and I enjoy doing it. But either way, like you never know. Like he could just not analyze himself and think he’s playing better than he is and blame everybody else, which he kind of has done at times this year. But I appreciate him addressing the fact he’s been horrible this season. And I’ll say this, like if it continues, I will consistently say that Dolphins should absolutely bench him this year and plan for him to be moved off of in the off season. So in the chance that Tua does get benched this year, who should be the quarterback? Should it be Quinn or should it be Zack Wilson? As you could tell, I am firmly on the belief that it should be Quinners. Like if the Dolphins actually bench Tua in December, there’s just no world where it’s not Quinny starting because Zach Wilson’s on a one-year contract and he’s not going to return next year in all likelihood. There’s a chance he returns, but I don’t think he does because Chris Brewer signed him to that one-year deal. I also think that he might not be the best fit in McDaniel’s system. And why wouldn’t you go with the seventh round rookie? Uh it just doesn’t make a lot of sense for you to ultimately bench Tua and not go with Quinn E. So yeah, if that happens, it’s going to be Eers. I think that should be the move that Miami ultimately does make as well. I think we’re wasting our time here playing Tua. I hate to say it. Like this season’s over. Why are we still playing? Like if he’s still on the roster and you don’t draft a top end, high-end elite QB, like yeah, two is probably going to be the starter next year, but this season with no chance to win anything, benches ass.
