[MLB] Veteran leader Turner a free agent after Cubs decline option

  1. Can he retire as a player and become some kind of coach on the team?

EDIT: This spiraled into an anti-Ricketts/local food thread, as expected. Love you guys and Chicago.

  2. Really doing whatever they can to not spend any money.

Brace yourselves for the inevitable future when PCA signs a contract with LA.

  3. If he can’t find work as a player I’d love to have him back as a coach, seemed really valuable in the clubhouse.

  4. $10M option on a pinch hitter who had a negative fWAR at the age of 40 is an easy one to let go. More flexibility and longevity from a bench bat would make sense. I’d kinda like to see Willi Castro in his bench spot next season, even though his time with the team didn’t come with good results.

  5. Just for the intellectual exercise, what level of performance would it have taken for the Cubs to pick up the option?

Because of my total lack of faith in Tommy Boy, Jed and Carter, my assumption is that 100 homers and 200 RBI would NOT have been enough

  6. Man. Ricketts wasting no time in dismantling a team that got into the playoffs. They must have something up there sleeve right? …..RIGHT?

I mean I know it’s Turner and he wasn’t coming back anyways but this has been a quick dismantling and I doubt there’s any way in hell we actually spend money on a big name.

  7. Too bad. I was told by this board that he was amazing against LHP and totally worth his contract
