Rich Eisen Reacts to the Death of Dallas Cowboys DE Marshawn Kneeland at the Age of 24

I I don’t know about you. I I it was a gut punch when you when I heard this. I don’t know Marshon Neland. I I don’t I don’t I’ve never met him. Um many of you may have just first heard of him when he recovered that blocked punt for a touchdown. Incredible play, man. Right. Incredible. He blocked it and recovered. He didn’t block it, though. He didn’t. He covered it. It went off of the face mask of his opponent. Oh. I mean, of his teammate who took one on the chin and he was just, you know, on the spot, scored a touchdown on Monday Night Football on national television. Everybody going nuts in the Metroplex. It was a massive boost of energy and momentum that the Cowboys were desperate to have and he helped provide it. And there he is celebrating the moment with his teammates, smiles around, one would think, at the top of his game and the top of his life. and he’s now dead. And he was found from what appears to be, according to authorities, after a high-speed chase last night in the Metroplex area. Um, they said it he was found shot, that he had seemed to be of a self-inflicted wound. And all I can say is it is just gutting to hear that his teammates are devastated. Former teammates are devastated. And he apparently has a a pregnant girlfriend. He’s 24 from Western Michigan. And the Dallas Cowboys family is gutted. The NFL family is gutted. The NFL Players Association’s putting out a press release to all of its players to seek out if they need any sort of counseling to work through their grief. So, um uh to Neland and his family and his significant others as well as uh the Cowboys family, we uh we send our condolences and may he rest in peace. And again, for everybody out there, just hug your loved ones and if this appears to be what it sounds like, check in on them. See how they’re doing. Make sure they understand that they’re not alone and that um we should all look around and view what we do in a day as our scoring a touchdown and revel in the moment, but also know that it can be gone in a flash. May he rest in peace.

  1. A sad day for all who knew him, I think there are a couple things that donโ€™t make sense from the information we got atm but right now Iโ€™m not gonna spread speculation, at the end of the day right now whether it was fowl play or self inflicted itโ€™s still a tragedy. Right after the guy had the play of the game 3 days ago and only 24 year old. Horrible, truly a sad day. Love to all his family and friends

  2. Had to be red flags ๐Ÿšฉโ€ฆlocker room, teammates, familyโ€ฆ.not blaming anybody, but we to check in on each other ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

  3. Very sad. My condolences to Marshawn's family, friends, and to all Cowboys fans, Western Michigan fans, and NFL fans. May he Rest In Peace. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿˆ

  4. You'd think he would feel on top of the world after a moment like that. Even with the loss, his moment was awesome. You never know what someone is going through, the biggest smiles could be hiding the most pain. RIP Marshawn Kneeland and prayers to his family

  5. I donโ€™t know how people expect to help others with this when we literally canโ€™t even say the word that he may have done to himself. What a disgusting society.

  6. He shot himself after evading police pursuit and crashing and abandoning his vehicle. This isn't a ~suicide~ suicide, it's a hotheaded fool trying to escape consequences for his poor decisions. Treating it as a proper suicide is nothing but insulting to the chronically depressed and truly suicidal.

  7. This is awful to hear. Beyond football beyond fandom. Horrible for him and his family and his teammates. Giants fan here praying for him, but even that doesnt matter, praying for everyone tonight.

  8. I struggled in my early 20โ€™s as well. Like Iโ€™m sure many others do. More work needs to be done to help men struggling with mental health issues.

  9. Terribly sad that someone so young wouldn't want to be alive. As a teen I often had these thoughts, but somehow always thought "maybe tomorrow will be better." And, it is.

  10. One wonders if there is a family history of a type of mental illness that leads to such an act and if it happened before to a parent, uncle, aunt, cousin, sibling, grandparent.

Can early intervention help if there is a family history?

In any case, it sucks. RIP.

  11. As someone who's gone through tough times, I know what it's like to feel alone. It's an awful feeling. But remember that things always get better.

To anybody dealing with the same, just know you're never alone. Keep pushing for you and all your loved ones. The world is better with you in it.

    Peace and love ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ.

  12. He was probably in trouble with the mob.. the mob is going after the players now and getting them to borrow money from them to gamble and the forcing them to fix games.. Guarantee the mob had something to do with this

  13. Mental health is health. I hope this inspires others to take care of themselves and to watch out for the people in their circles. Lost a good number of people to this as I'm sure many have. ๐Ÿ˜ข

  14. As a man who has battled with depression and other mental illness, as someone who lives just miles from western Michigan U, this hurts. Iโ€™ve never heard of him, let alone rooted for Dallas. But it is genuinely heartbreaking to see another one of our young men take their own life. At some point we as a society need to take a hard look at mental illness as a whole, mental health in men and even more so, young men. The numbers are staggering and disturbing and we need to do something about it. Men and women alike are dying at insane ratesโ€ฆ help your loved ones and neighbors, people!

  15. He was ready to go when he ran from cops. Probably wanting suicide by cop. Once they couldn't follow him, he probably just drove bezerk till he had confrontation. The confrontation took too long. ๐Ÿ˜ขRIP

  16. Thanks Rich for actually being willing to talk about it. The other shows just ignore real life. We canโ€™t be afraid to talk about it. Itโ€™s ok to acknowledge the humanity in sports.

  17. A lot of people deal with terrible things and thoughts without being on an NFL team making good money. I just don't understand I guess. Maybe he thought his career was over because of this, who knows, just sad all around.

  18. Being gone to soon and All prayers from the heart and as a family and celebrating many more years and relationships and leadership and friendship and legendary career and being drafted in the NFL of this year and playing in chollge football and being it is so sad all the blessings memories from the heart peace and hope and faith and praying for everything in Jesus name Amen ๐Ÿ™

  19. Fans need to understand these are human beings and maybe we can be reflective of stuff like this before posting endless emotional criticism of these guys online

  20. That is one of the problems with owning a gun. If you ever hit that low point in your life, it's right there. No pondering, no time for second thoughts, no planning needed. It's why police officers have such a high rate of such. It's the proximity and ease of the (horrible)solution.
