BREAKING; Cleveland Guardians DECLINE John Means Option for 2026

and let the 2025 2026 MLB off season begin. Now, the Guardians kickstarted things for them anyway, resigning Austin Hedges before the World Series ended. But today, the Guardians made their first bit of news. They decided to decline the option with $6 million on John Means. The Guardians signed John Means to a two-year deal with or one-year deal with an option. Last year, he was paid 51 million. This would have been 6 million in 2026, I think 8 million with incentives total. Uh the things this did not go well for Means the Guardians weren’t really hurting for rotation depth late in the season when he was ready to come back but he was struggling with velocity. He was struggling with control and command. This wasn’t like Natt Boyd situation at all where they were desperate to add somebody and Boyd was looking good and healthy and ready to go. Means just struggled on his comeback. So this says that uh they just didn’t think that he had recovered enough. Remember this is his second Tommy John surgery. The Guardians also freed up some space in their 40man roster. So Ben Lively, Dom Nunees, Colby Allard, and Matt Crook are all off the 40man roster as well as Will Wilson. They are all free agents. The Guardians have the roster down to 37. They have until November 18th to set their 40man roster. I would expect more players to be non-endered before then. We’ll cover it all on the next episode of Lock9 Guardians. Satan.

  1. Gotta be honest, I’m shocked by this decision.
Unless they knew something significantly negative about his rehab status (they would know better than anyone) this seems pennywise, pound foolish to me.
