Unfortunately, you haven’t put yourself in a position to be able to keep him around and justify it. You have to make decisions on his contract. You have to make decisions on what he’s going to provide for the long term. And if Kell Moore doesn’t think that he’s a part of the long-term answer, then that’s a decision he had to make. Now, wide receiver is more of a need than ever. In terms of players you have to replace Rasheed Shahed, I mean, it’s pretty limited. I’m going to be honest. And it’s not something that is ultra um it’s not gonna be easy. Yeah, it’s not going to be easy to replace Shahed. And it’s also a situation in New Orleans where the receiver room is so thin. Unfortunately, you’re like this is going to be tough to kind of go about the rest of the season. Seattle also is interested in Caesar Ruiz, which is definitely an interesting one to consider. I personally would be thrilled if we trade Caesar Ruiz. Like, it is what it is. Now I will say this is really really nice return for a player who was an undrafted free agent. And I do think that when you consider all of the elements Rashichi’s 27 years old. He was on a contract year. The Saints have been interested in keeping around Chris Olive. You had to make a tough decision. All in all, I think a fourth and a fifth round pick is nice. You own your third round pick. You get Seattle’s fourth round pick which will be later in the fourth round. You own your own fifth round pick. You now have a second fifth round selection from Seattle. And then now you also have a sixth round pick which is your own. No seventh because you traded that away for Devon Godshaw. So potentially we’ll try to recoup that today. The trade deadline is still a few hours away and the Saints could make some moves. But let’s talk about Rasheed. The need for speed Shahed. I’m going to miss him. I I really am. And and it’s heartbreaking to see that he is now swapping in the black and gold for some neon green and navy blue. But I can tell you right now, I think the Seahawks offense is going to be very thankful that they made this move. He’s a very fast, very talented player and somebody who can take the top off of a defense at any moment in time. arguably the fastest player in the entire National Football League. A guy who will definitely be a weapon for Sam Darnold. I think he could be really nice and complimentary next to JSN. And with the Seahawks offense led by Clint Kubak, he was very successful with Clint Kubak as his OC last year. Obviously, Shahed did suffer the injury uh the knee injury against Atlanta, so we didn’t get the full season with him, but Clint Kubak was a fan of him enough so to bring him in. Remember against the Cowboys, Shahed feasted. Against the Panthers, Shahed feasted. The New Orleans Saints offense in those first two games were historically productive before they went on that drastic losing streak. And Rasheed Shahed was a focal point as to why the New Orleans Saints found so much suess, so much success. And I think that that’s going to be a big reason why the Seattle Seahawks will have success as well. All righty, let’s keep talking about Rasheed Shahed to Seattle. Unfortunately, you now are in a weird position in the wide receiver room. So, today when you woke up, you had five wide receivers on the active roster. You had Chris Olive, Rasheed Shahed, Brandon Cooks, Devon, Mason Typton. Now you only have four. But the good news is this now opens up opportunities for Devon Vele to get more involved in the offense. This gives Devon Vele more snaps. He has not been somebody who’s even been getting a lot of snaps. Not Not to mention the targets and the production hasn’t been there. But now he gets to actually get on the field. And with Rasheed Shahed being gone, it sucks. It it blows, but you got to find a way to make right on this investment. I mean, you traded a fourth and a seventh round pick for this player. You need to get him on the field. And unfortunately, the New Orleans Saints were sort of in this position where you kind of had to trade away a player to give Devon Vele more opportunities unless you were just going to straight up bench Brandon Cooks. And I don’t necessarily know if that’s something that Kell Moore was willing to do. Now, I got to say this is not a bad trade. You got to give Mickey Lumis credit. I don’t think that this was one that he got fleeced on. I actually think he got pretty nice return. Rashichid was an undrafted free agent and he was going to need to get a payday this off season. And so now the Saints can allocate money elsewhere to help on the offensive line for example. I think that that’s something that the Saints definitely need to do. You obviously needed to draft a wide receiver, but now it is even more so of a need this off season. So I think you should spend money on a receiver. I think you should go and draft and prioritize drafting a wide receiver. And if you do win out of the first overall pick, Jordan Tyson would be an excellent option. You need to get more players on this offense and create more weapons for this team because quite frankly, the offense has been very lackluster and it’s already struggled to create explosive plays. But now the most explosive player on the team is gone. So don’t expect it to get any better anytime soon. They’ve been rotating him out more than Deario Davis and giving a lot of run to Danny Stzman and um Jaylen Ford and Isaiah Stalberg, but we haven’t seen Deario Davis come off the field. So, I think if anybody were to get trained, it would be uh Pete Warner in the linebacker room. I wouldn’t mind Diego Pavia. I I I I’m good. Like, people are way too high on Diego P. Yeah, we have people who are like, look, there there is there is a real thing. There is a truth. It is true. You can be a great college football quarterback, but be terrible in the NFL. All right, let’s break it down right here, right now. Penning has been traded. [Music] The New Orleans Saints at the buzzer make another trade. Trevor Penning is headed to the Chargers. I’m here to tell you right now that the New Orleans Saints needed to operate as sellers and they got two moves done. I wish a handful of more would have been made, but at the end of the day, the trade deadline has come. It has gone. And let’s react to everything that has happened. In case you guys missed it, sorry I’m so red, by the way. It’s hot in the studio. And your boy got pretty heated when I was, you know, complaining about Rasheed Shahid getting traded. But Trevor Penning at the buzzer, like we said, literally 2 minutes before the trade deadline ends. The Chargers make a move. Penning to the Chargers. The Saints receive a 2027 sixth round pick. Worth noting, it’s not this upcoming draft, but a future draft pick for Trevor Penning. The draft pick heads to New Orleans. I want you to grade the trade for me. A, B, C, D, or F. I mean, I guess I’ll give it a C. It’s better than nothing. You didn’t pick up his fifth year option, so I guess it’s better than just letting him walk in free agency. But the Chargers, they made this move for a handful of reasons. The biggest one being that Joe Alt is now dealing with an injury and they needed some services of an experienced offensive lineman. I do want to say I’m actually okay with Trevor Penning being dealt. The offensive line in New Orleans has been severely bad in my opinion, especially the interior offensive line. But he’s a player who has versatility to play outside. He can now play inside. He has experience all over the line. And I think for the Chargers, they’re a team that is still looking to compete and make a run for the postseason. And Penning can provide a little bit of extra juice to that offensive line. I’m not going to sit here and say he’s going to be absolutely missed in New Orleans. I want to first of all say like thanks for everything. I guess it’s not really like there’s been a ton of great moments, but you know, I don’t wish this player ill will by any means. But I saw people saying that this is just an FU to the fan base. It’s a slap in the face from Mickey Lumis. I think it’s more of just an admission of being wrong. Like I think that this is just a you know what, I was wrong. Drafting Penning in the first round was a waste. We needed to get something in return for him. We needed to move off of him. So they made the trade to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Northern Iowa product. He was a project to begin with and it just never really worked out in New Orleans. So, he is swapping in the black and gold for the blue and yellow with those nice uniforms they have with the Chargers. All in all, I will say I think that the Saints need to be smart with how they go about this offensive line here. We’re going to tell you guys a little bit more about what happened in the trade deadline in a moment. But with the offensive line, now that you’ve traded Trevor P, traded Trevor Penning, Dylan Raiden slides to be the starting left guard. Caesar Ruiz did not get dealt, so he stays at the right guard position. Torres Simpkins, the undrafted free agent out of South Carolina. He will be able to be the backup on either side because he can play either one and he can also provide depth at the center position. So, all in all, the New Orleans Saints deciding to make a handful of moves. Now, obviously the New Orleans Saints had a handful of moves that a lot of us wanted to make. Pete Warner was one that a lot of people wanted traded. Alante Taylor was one that people wanted traded. Chris Ol was a name that people mentioned a lot in trade buzz. Alvin Chimera got some interest. There was a handful of players out there who could have been dealt, but the Saints decide to only move two players. Obviously, we talked about Trevor Penning. We broke down Rasheed Shahid in full detail earlier, but we’ll just kind of give you the recap and the information in case you missed it. With Trevor Penning, though, I think that he is a player that can provide a little bit of depth for the Chargers. So, if you’re a Chargers fan watching this video, I’m not going to sit here and say he’s going to fix all your problems, but he at least can be serviceable enough and can kind of get it done for New Orleans. I’m not going to say it got better. I’m also not going to see you say it got worse. I don’t know. All in all, I think this was a necessary move for New Orleans to make. Would have liked to get a little bit more in return, but at the end of the day, something is better than nothing. Now, let’s kind of get you guys recaught up on the Rasheed Shahid trade. In case you missed it, New Orleans dealt the Saints wide receiver earlier today around noon central time uh for a fourth and a fifth round pick, meaning New Orleans now has their own first round pick. They have their own second round pick. They have their own third round pick. They have Seattle’s fourth round pick, which will be later in the round. You have your own fifth and Seattle’s fifth, so two in the fifth round. You have a sixth round pick and no seventh. Next year you have a first, a second, a third. Now it’s two sixs, I believe. I could be wrong on that. We’re going to make sure we’re caught up here. Give me one second here. But the New Orleans Saints have more draft capital. They did when we woke up this morning. And that is a smart thing for New Orleans to do considering they needed to make moves. Okay, so now they do have a sixth round pick in 2027. So in 2020, this was the draft picks going into today. So reminder, you had five picks when you woke up. Now you have seven in 2026. You have a fourth round from Seattle. You have two fifths, but you still do not have a seventh round pick in 2027. You now have six picks because you have your own first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and now you have Seattle’s sixth or excuse me, Los Angeles’s sixth. So you do have the ability to add more talent, add more depth. I know it’s a sixth round pick. I know it’s not anything illustrious, but hey, in 2028, you have three seventh round picks. That makes life easy, right? Right. I don’t know. All in all, I can tell you right now when it comes to the trades that the New Orleans Saints have made, I am really like sad that we had to say goodbye to Rashid Shahit specifically. Not as much with Trevor Penning, but New Orleans holds the number one overall pick right now. And I think that one more move would have been a really smart decision. Although I think New Orleans can still make trades in the off season. You could see players like Pete Warner, Carl Granderson, Chris Olivia, some of these other guys get dealt in the offseason since they didn’t get dealt by the trade deadline. Um I’m here going to tell you right now, the trade deadline always has a lot of smoke. There’s usually not a lot of fire, but New Orleans and the Jets were big-time sellers today. The Jets had a fire sale, trading away Quinnon Williams, trading away Sauce Gardner. Bree Hall ends up staying after saying he wanted it out. Germaine Johnson stays, but look, the next few weeks for New Orleans Saints football, the remainder of the season, it’s not going to be pretty. It just got a little bit uglier considering the offense has been a major problem. You trade away two offensive players, one being the most explosive player you have on the team. you already lack explosive plays. And the other one being an offensive lineman. You may not like him, but he’s a starter and he’s a starter for a reason. So, at the end of the day, I will think the Saints get like a B minus C plus grade for me on the trade deadline. But, you know, I think one more move would have made me feel a little bit more confident in the future of this team. But, this was never a one-year fix. We’re going to have to see what happens in the draft and hopefully we can hit on some of these picks. He trades Mazy Smith and a second round pick and a first round pick to the Jets in return for top defensive tackle Quinnon Williams. New York also traded Sauce Gardner to the Colts. The they were a team that was definitely an Alante Taylor destination. They went and got S Gardner. Obviously, that took them out of the Elante Taylor conversation, but AD Mitchell and two first round picks to the Jets here. They are loading up with Aaron Glenn. Jacobe Meyers got dealt this morning. For what it’s worth, I gotta give Mickey Lumis a little bit of credit here. I personally believe that Jacobe Meyers is a better receiver than Rasheed Shahed, but you got better return than the Raiders did for Jacobe Meyers. The Raiders got a fourth and a sixth. You got a fourth and a fifth. Not bad. And it’s not a knock on Rasheed Shahid. I just think that Jacobe Myers a little bit more of a complete wide receiver. I think he could do a little bit more. But like, got to give Mickey a little bit of credit there. He didn’t totally screw that one up. Logan Wilson also traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a seventh round pick. I think that this move kind of lowered the price tag for the linebackers across the league. Like I I do think that the Saints were interested in trading Pete Warner. I don’t think that they would have been putting Danny Stsman in for so much run without having at least an idea or at least an intention to do that. But all in all, the New Orleans Saints make two moves. The first one being Trevor or the first one was Rasheed Shahed for a 2026 fourth and fifth round pick from the Seahawks. Trevor Penning Delt Ethan, I am telling you that Joan Johnson’s still on your team. That’s not what he asked. He asked the Tik Tok What do you guys think of the Trevor Penning move? Yep. What do you think of the deadline in general? Yeah. Was the trade deadline good or bad? Like not just from a Saints standpoint, just in general, you think the Saints tread or the NFL trade deadline was good or bad? I think it was overall a solid trade deadline. A lot of moves, couple big blockbusters. Nobody saw Sarder for what it’s worth. So that part made it a little bit of fun. Kind of caused some havoc early. Shout out to the Jets. They gave us a lot of juice today. Yeah, no kidding. I would have I wouldn’t have minded having a bunch of extra picks coming out of today, but at the end of the day, I understand why we didn’t do it. All in all, the New Orleans Saints need to hit on picks in the future. They need to be smarter with their money. And like if if if the Saints can put together another good draft class, then you have a chance here to turn things around a little bit sooner. But I still think we’re a few years away. And it sucks to say that, but What do you guys think of the trade deadline? B C Jets had the right idea. Saints should have done the same. I do think that the Saints should have had a little bit more of a fire sale, but obviously they did not. The Jets also have a little bit more talent. Saints. Yeah, that’s the other thing is you didn’t have first round pick talent on New Orleans. like you just don’t have those kind of players to bring in that kind of compensation. We get a whole new roster we get to watch on Sunday. Yep. A whole new roster of players that are worse than the ones we traded away. Uh you will see more Devon Vele. you will see more um I believe from Mason Typton. I think this opens up opportunities for him as well. But I can say that New Orleans did make a couple of smart decisions to trade players away. I think that the Saints need to be very intentional with how they go about the next few months and I think they need to be very smart with how they use their picks. Because if you use your picks on a bunch of nonsense, that would be a waste of time and I hate it. But if you use the picks on quality contributors, guys who are proven, guys who have upside, guys who have talent, I think that it might make some sense. I mean, an extra or a fourth round pick, having that back is really nice. Having an extra fifth round pick doesn’t stink. Like, you can still for what it’s worth, all the Rattler stands out there. Rattler was a fifth round pick. We can get another Rattler. That’s worked so well. Yeah, we can go get another Rattler or we can go get I don’t know. There’s another fifth round pick. Something like that. Yes, we have our own second round pick. I think Ven and Typton are two of our best receivers along with Olive. Well, you only have four. You only have four receivers on the roster. So, yeah, I would agree, Ron. You have right now on the active roster Rasheed or excuse me Chris Alave, Brandon Cooks, Devon Vele, Mason Tipton. You have four receivers on the active roster. So I agree Ble and Tipton are both some of the best receivers we have because we only have four odds we go one and 16. I do think I mean I don’t know like I can’t say it’s impossible. I can’t say it’s impossible, but I have a feeling you’ll win one of, if not all of the Dolphins, Jets, and Titans games, especially because it feels like the Jets are trying to like blow it up and tank and end everything, whereas it feels like the Saints are like, let’s see if we let’s let’s see what we got in these guys. Let’s see if they can go and win. So, like, I I’m personally going to take the the practice squad guys. Okay. Yeah. Kevin Austin Jr. and Dante Pettis are going to make such an impact. No. Yeah. Again, you only have four receivers who are on your game Bay roster and it’s not like Kevin Austin Jr., Dante Pettis are going to be making him a huge impact. State of Pelicans says D. I thought the trade deadline as a whole was pretty interesting at least. Yeah, I mean it was a fun lot of interesting buzz. More trades than usual. There’s a lot of interesting chatter. What was it? Seven trades just today and then ones that went down yesterday and couple days before the deadline. Yep. Can’t complain about the draft or the trade deadline. Yeah. Like obviously it’s a lot more fun when you have a team that’s looking to be buyers and trying to make that push for a Super Bowl roster. Yeah. We don’t have that. Both Trevor Penning and Rashahed likely would have left in free agency next year anyway. Um, so these trades, I mean, it makes sense. Had to do it. Get a you get a fourth and fifth round pick for an undrafted free agent and then a sixth round pick for a first round pick. So, I know on paper the penning trade for what you g got him like what it took to get him versus what you traded away to get rid of him, it’s not amazing, but it is something.
