Kansas City Chiefs Making MAJOR Bye Week Changes Ft. Isiah Pacheco, George Karlaftis & Josh Simmons?
[Music] Chiefs Kingdom. It’s week 10 in the NFL and for Kansas City that means it’s the by week, which obviously gives the Chiefs some time to rest and to recuperate, but it doesn’t mean they’re taking the week off. It doesn’t mean the work stops. There’s some things they got to do over this buy to continue to improve to give themselves the best possible shot to win a Super Bowl in the back half of this season. And we’re going to go over three of those today in my opinion. Starting with number one, the biggest biggest one, you’ve got to get healthy upfront. That is the number one thing on Kansas City’s checklist this bye. And we’re going to get into that in just a second. But the number one thing on your guys’s checklist this by week should be subscribing to the Chiefs Report by Chad Sports. We’re going to keep you guys covered with all the Kansas City Chiefs news and rumors you need. It’s the by week. I’m sure a lot of other Chiefs channels and Chiefs podcasts are taking the week off, just relaxing. No preview to do, no game to discuss. Not us. Not us here at the Chiefs Report. We’re right here with you guys giving you the Chiefs news you need to know and the by-week changes they need to make. Starting with just getting healthy, guys. The injuries have been stacking up. Looking at the offensive line in particular, Josh Simmons not technically hurt, but he hasn’t played since week five against the Jacksonville Jags. So, it’s been over a month since we’ve seen Josh Simmons on the football field. There’s going to be some rust to shake off there for him. Trey Smith, he’s been dealing with back spasms over the last couple weeks. left that week seven game against the Raiders. Came back and uh four pressures allowed actually versus the Bills. That says Jags on there. That that’s my bad. Uh Jawan Taylor dealt with an ankle injury also against the Bills. Ended up leaving that game and did not return. We haven’t received an update around the situation with Jawan Taylor at this point. And that’s something that’s starting to concern me a little bit, guys. That is our starting right tackle. Our left tackle we just talked about. He’s dealing with issues of his own. So, these two guys both not 100% healthy or at least not at 100%. And then you’ve also got Kingsley. Kingsley left week nine as well. Had a bit of a bump. It looks like he got bumped into. Looked like he got a lower body injury. Hobbled off the field. Super tough dude though. Came right back and finished the game. And speaking of really tough guys on our football team dealing with injuries, Isaiah Pacheco, MCL sprain still a factor for him. And all of these, all five of these injuries are a major factor for Kansas City’s run game not being successful. Something we’re going to hit on even more a little bit later. But this by-week, guys, it’s great timing. It is perfect because think about the amount of recovery time these guys have right now. 14 full days from November 2nd, the last time we had a game to get back to 100% before our week 11 game versus the Broncos. I wouldn’t be surprised if all five of these guys are out on the field because like I said, this is perfect timing. This gives them a ton of time for us to get 100% healthy. And in a year where there have been a ton of injuries across the NFL, in a year where it feels like things are going to come down to who’s the healthiest at the end of the season, this is a perfect opportunity for us to reset and reload before the back half of the season to get this offensive line back to 100%. Because guys, when Josh Simmons and Jawan Taylor were on the field together, they were two of the best tackle or this unit was playing like one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. I think we can come back to that and I think we can get back to it quite quickly. But it’s going to require that everybody be at 100%. And this 14-day window that we have right here is the perfect opportunity for them to do that. And it’s also the perfect opportunity for them to figure out how to run the football, guys. I’m sick of talking about it. I am sick of talking about our run game struggles. And it hasn’t gotten, of course, it hasn’t. It’s gotten a lot worse since Isaiah Pacheco’s been out. But even with Pacheco in the lineup, we have struggled to run the football all season long. It has been the consistent issue for Kansas City this year. that and getting after the passer. Something else we’re going to hit on again a little bit later, but I want to hear from you guys here. I want you to be the coach for a minute. Who would you put in charge of this running back room? I think all three of these guys have been given opportunities to step up. I don’t think you could say it’s that any of the three of them have run away with it to this point. So, I want to hear from you guys. I think any answer you can make a strong argument for. Type IP for Isaiah Pacheco, type KH for Kareem Hunt, and type BS for Brashard Smith. If you’re asking me, I’m probably going with Brashard. And I know you look at these numbers, that doesn’t make much sense. Brashard Smith absolutely not the guy who looks the best from this group. That’s Patrick Mahomes. And it’s not even particularly close. 47 carries for 285 for Mahomes. He’s averaging over six yards per carry. He is the only guy on this team averaging more than four and a half yards per carry. That is not good, friends. He is still carrying far too much of the load of our run game. I think this is unsustainable. In fact, I I don’t even think it’s it just is unsustainable. That’s not even an opinion statement. That’s just a statement of fact. Eventually, this is going to come back to bite you. If you have your starting quarterback, the most important player, not only on your team, but the most important player in the NFL. I don’t think there’s a player that contributes more to his team than Patrick Mahomes does to the Kansas City Chiefs. And we can’t put him in harm’s way this consistently. But to his point, he’s running because he feels like the offense needs it. And I don’t blame him. Look at the rushing stats over the last three games. 71 carries for 276. Can’t even get over four yards per carry. And we’ve gotten in the end zone three times. And high explosive runs have been non-existent in this offseason or in this offense. Something I have made a huge point of again and again. Something I thought there was a clear solution to, but we turned down that solution. We left him in New York because we didn’t want to give up a third round draft pick. Stinks. Absolutely it does. But you can’t spend the rest of the season licking your wounds on the Bree Hall trade and bemmoning the fact that this didn’t happen. You’ve got to find a solution here. You have faith in this room. You had faith in Kareem Hunt, in Isaiah Pacheco, and in Bree Hall. You chose not to make a trade. Now you need one of those guys to step up and be the leader here. And speaking of leaders, if you’re looking for the leader when it comes to food for your tailgate, the number one, it is Omaha Stakes, guys, and it is not particularly close. And I love Omaha steaks so much. I’ve told you guys so much about my personal experiences with Omaha Stakes, about getting them for my tailgates, making dinner with my fiance, whether it’s steaks, whether it’s burgers, that I actually just got a bunch for the boys. Huge shout out to Omaha Stakes once again for supporting the channel. We always appreciate them. Let’s get back into our by-week checklist. Last thing I really want to see Kansas City attack during this buy attack during their time off is in my opinion the number one issue facing our defense right now. We cannot get after the quarterback. And I know as soon as the words number one issue facing our defense came out of my mouth, everyone who’s consistently watched the Chiefs this season knew exactly what I was talking about because it is just obvious. You don’t have to be an NFL expert. You don’t have to be an NFL analyst to watch Kansas City and realize, gosh, this team just lets opposing quarterbacks sit in the pocket all day long and dice them up. But if you want the stats, if you do want to play the whole NFL expert role, here they are for you. 44 pressures for Caroftus leads our team. That’s about the only player on our team who’s really been a producer when it comes to pressure. I wish I could say Chris Jones was playing that role, but honestly, at this point, getting double teamed as much as he is, which is valuable, his ability to take on those double teams, he has not been productive. In the past, he’s taken on that rate of double teams brought that value, but he’s also been ultra productive. We haven’t seen that this season. And then the drop off after Chris Jones is unbelievable, guys. Charles Amenu should drive every fan of Kansas City insane. We’re paying this guy $8 million to produce 15 pressures. He can’t even match his pressure rate with his annual salary. Ridiculous. Ashton Gelotti, 12 pressures, 9.8% pressure rate. I think he’s solid. I We’re going to talk about him a little bit more in a minute. I think there’s something there, but he hasn’t played enough snaps. that 10% pressure rate, that’s what the average should be and we’ve got way too many guys well below it and it’s resulting in our defense getting diced up. Our defense is our secondary. They look terrible on paper, guys. And I don’t think a lot of it’s on them. And I know I’ve said this over and over again, but you have to be able to consistently affect quarterbacks in this league. You cannot let them sit back there for three seconds or this is going to happen. You’re going to have the fourth worst completion percentage allowed of any team in the NFL, allowing north of 70% of passes to be completed against you for almost seven yards per attempt. 93.2 quarterback rating is an unacceptable average, guys. It just simply is. At the end of the day, there’s nothing more you can say other than you have to get better at getting after the passer. And I think there was a bright spot in week nine. And I know week nine not the game that you would think a bright spot came out of. Big loss, but Ashton Gelotti, guys, and I talked about him a little bit earlier. He showed us something in that one. He only got eight snaps as a pass rusher. On those eight snaps, he finds a way to get pressure on almost 50% of them. Three pressures, gets a sack, gets a hurry. I love it. I loved the fire he brought. I love the fire he’s brought all season. I think there’s something there. And I think Spagnolo thinks there’s something there. I think he really likes this kid. And I think this kid needs to step up big time for us in the back half of the season. I We didn’t make a move. We’re trusting the guys on the roster. So, this is what it comes down to. If we’re going to get improvement in the run game, it’s going to be Brashard Smith stepping up. And if we’re going to get improvement along the defensive line, the number one guy I see that coming from is Ashton Gelotti. And I think he’s capable of it. We saw it at Louisville. This guy was a stud at Louisville. Super, super productive. There was first round buzz around him at times. I think we might have a steal on our hands and I think it’s up to him in the second half of this season to prove it. So, let’s go through the checklist one more time. Everything I want to see Kansas City accomplished during this bye-week. Number one, just get healthy. Even if that means rest time for a lot of the guys on the offensive line, even if that means rest time for Isaiah Pacheco, I’m okay with it. Let’s just get back to 100%. We got a rough schedule going down the rest of the way. We need our guys at 100% for it. Number two, speaking of Isaiah Pacheco, we got to figure out the run game. And I think a lot of that is connected to the health of the offensive line, but I think a lot of that is also connected to not involving Bashard Smith, our most explosive option enough in that area yet. I think he needs to get more touches. I think we need more design in the run game for Bashard Smith. And lastly, we got to find a way to get after the quarterback. Whether that comes with more blitzing or the step up I’ve predicted from Ashton Gelotti, one or the other. We do these three things though, guys, we are going to be right there. We’re already right there in a lot of ways. I think there are just a few things we need to make before we are the Super Bowl favorites in my opinion and I’m looking forward to seeing Kansas City do them in the back half of the season. I’ll see you guys next time. Let’s go Chiefs. [Music]
Kansas City Chiefs news and rumors over the bye week on the Chiefs Report by Chat Sports. Host Jackson Durham walks through the changes he feels the Kansas City Chiefs, currently 5-4 in the 2025 NFL season, must make to win Super Bowl 60. Durham’s checklist includes getting healthy along the offensive line – as Trey Smith, Kingsley Suamataia, Josh Simmons and more members of the Chiefs’ depth chart are all on the Chiefs injury report or dealing with rust but have plenty of time to get healthy before the next game on the Chiefs’ 2025 schedule, Week 11 vs. the Denver Broncos. Jackson also highlights the importance of fixing the run game and the Chiefs stats getting after the passer. The Chiefs’ rushing stats, with Patrick Mahomes carrying some of the load, do all the talking and the defensive line has struggled to generate pressure all year.

ChiefsTV we need to get it together before we come back from the bye week
bring steele up.
CEH Should Had Stayed On The Practice Squad
BS
Give Gilotte more snaps

We need a good running game and three is only one way for this… a new headcouch, Andy is too stubborn.
Chiefs will beat the broncos forget breece building through the draft we have the talent Elijah Mitchell Clyde Edwards Helair were 3. 1 in last 4 get healthy
BS
Are you serious the run game is not good because Andy Reid doesn't run the ball stop blaming the running backs
Chiefs sucks
Kh
BS something new
Solution is to fire Brett Veach. This man doesn't want us to win. No RB or any trade is crazy
I've said that it's time for veech to go somewhere else he drafted Skye Moore over George Pickens and he drafted that awful edge Felix's and he never pan out he's acting like those 2026 picks are gold or something
Are you kidding me? Literally you had Kareem Hunt vs Bills averaging over 7 yards per carry and Andy stops running the ball.
As far each RB getting opportunity, even Andy Reid disagrees with that. The Chiefs have not committed to the run game. Just think J Cook got 114 yards but it took 27 carries. Not one of our backs have even gotten 15 carries in a single game. Pacheco had 57 with 14 carries double that and he got exactly cook got. We have struggled to run the ball, because we simply dont run the ball consistently
Go Chiefs! On to the playoffs …
Mitchell and Smith deserve more attempts while CEH reverts to the practice squad.
I think Kareem Hunt is the best of the three backs. He is averaging 4.0 ypc to Pacheco's 4.2, but he gets the short yardage and goal line carries.

Bs
I would start 97 over 90 as 90 isn't getting it done. Maybe it will spark a fire in him.
None of are running backs would even make another nfl team as a running back. The chiefs running backs are terrible. They all should be watching football games like the rest of us. Atleast Brashard Smith is making a impact catching passes.. as far as being a running back not so much. He's a good slot receiver.
Chiefs need to worry about the defense..That defense was exposed by the Bills..Chiefs offense is a one trick pony and it's not working at all
Broncos suck and go chiefs

Funny how talking heads are talking this year about winning any way you can. It's a W baby! But last year the Chiefs were lucky or rigged as I remember. 12-0 in one score games wasn't very lucky. So now talking heads have respect for what KC did last year? About time.
And what about Josh Simmons. Maybe a mental health break? Nobody's saying anything so. If he starts that should mean a lot.
Their bye week couldn't be better placed. TK alluded to a couple of games he thought got away from them. I'm thinking definitely Jags and maybe Bolts. So these guys now know that their playoffs start here. They also know how to string wins together. If any team can do this, it would be this one.
Actually how do you know that the Jets didn't turn down an offer for a third rounder? How do you know how many teams the Jets turned down? I'm just askin'
Okay, so it's easy this season to have ultimatums. Unless this or that no chance. Chiefs get by Denver what will it be then? Didn't win by 20? I think these Chiefs know anything can happen in this league and being behind the eight ball isn't anything new to them, either.
Offensive coordinator…. not working.
