Excuse me, Yahoo? “[Vitello] is a splashy signing for an exceedingly average team.”
November 7, 2025
I'm offended. We're so much more than "exceedingly average."

Where’s the lie, exactly?
Not on the standings chart, they aren’t
I mean, the team has been decidely average for like 6 Years, minus 2021. That will be true until they are better
Lol that’s correct
They aren’t wrong
It was nice of them to say exceedingly when really we’re just exactly average.
The team had no exactly .500 years before 2022. Since then, we’ve had two. Unfortunately, the Giants have been exceedingly average lately.
We went 81-81, and have been near .500 recently except 2021. That’s the definition of average
<insert the .500 copypasta here>
What was our record last season? Oh yeah
McCovey Chronicles + The Athletic > Yahoo “Sports”
Really Grant Brisbee is underrated evenso today.
It never feels good to be called average. Also, the title is not a wrong statement. The irony is supreme of average yahoo sports calling Giants average.
I think the point is that the giants big market and history, they need to hire someone to get them out of average and back to where they should be.
Yahoos not really creating the sportswriting benchmark, these days or ever, gotta look at the source
like it or not the giants have been a .500 team for years now excluding 21.
If 81-81 isn’t average then I have no clue what is.
What’s our combined record the last 4 seasons buddy?
The record for the past 3-4 years does not lie
Splashy is entirely unfair, but exceedingly average is bang on the money. It’s somewhat of an achievement to be so consistently close to .500 for such an extended period of time.
I prefer the phrase “Aggressively Mediocre”…
i actually would agree with OP that its a pretty weird comment when they dont call suzuki’s hiring by the angels “a boring signing for an exceedingly dogshit team,” or something like that. i also think it is exactly what an exceedingly average team should be doing, taking risks to get better.
but i dont think thats what this giants roster is, and i think people in this thread acting like it are speaking lazily. our roster has a ton of talent that combined with a bad manager had one of the worst possible outcomes for itself, and landed at .500. it took a lot of really bad decisions and some bad luck to get there. i dont love the hiring because i dont think we needed to be that risky.
