Great, happy to give him a chance even though I’m not excited by the hire, he might wind up being the perfect guy. Who knows? Nobody on reddit, that’s for sure.
Are they trying to swing really hard in the other direction since Shildt was apparently a prick?
Universal feedback on Stammen. Will be rooting for him to succeed.
Yeah I think Acee is saying it best here: it’s a surprising pick but when you actually think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Obviously there’s the risk of having a first time manager but if we hired Pujols he would be a first time manager too. Obviously we will need to see how it works out but this is a pick I’m alright with
Personally, I’m in a, “hold on, let’s see how this plays out” mind set. I want to see what he’s like before I make any judgements because so far, he seems to be well liked and highly regarded as a highly intelligent and amazing player/human.
I also think we are experiencing a changing of the guard with managers. At some point a new wave needs to be introduced and looking around the league, it seems that this year is a big indicator that thats what is happening.
craig stammen, san diego slammin, petco park jammin, padres in 4
After the last few managerial hires I’m not even sure I know what a good hire looks like anymore. I was excited about both Melvin and Shildt and disappointed with how they both ended. There’s a lot that makes sense about this hire given his familiarity with the org and the last two years he spent in the front office which hopefully means good alignment with what AJ wants to do (I don’t think that was as harmonious with Melvin or Shildt). It also may be a reason why Ruben is staying on board, which is huge.
How many more days until Opening Day?
Since Victor is gone, can Pujols be our new hitting coach?
I’m getting tired of all this mister nice guy… someone dig up some dirt on this guy
