Spencer Rattler interview | Saints-Buccaneers Postgame | 2025 NFL Week 8
All right. So, Kell walked us through the conversation that he had with you on the sideline. Just mentioned what it was that he said to you when the decision for the quarterback changes. Can you take us through that moment for you and just your response? Yeah, I mean, we came out of the half um didn’t have a great drive, kept getting backed up, backed up, backed up. Um, you know, just really couldn’t catch a rhythm and, you know, we said, “Hey, we’re going to go with Tyler, get a little spark, see what’s going to happen.” And um you know it’s part of the game. You know, you know, I understand um you can’t control everything, but you know, hey, I’m I’m going to be a great teammate um and respond the right way. You know, be a pro about it and um help in any way I can. What do you feel like turnovers the last two weeks have been for you? Yeah, I mean, you know, moving the ball great the first drive. Um great opportunity in the rush lane. You know, try to make a little juke move and just try to tuck it away too late. and um you know had a great punch up. So got to uh protect the ball better when I’m running and make sure it’s tight. And then um you know the back the backed up one off the off the play action keeper. That’s unfortunate. You know he got his hand on it was good play by him. Um try to move on after that one. That was that was tough but um you know thought we were going to respond and uh you know try to bounce back from that. What do you think overall has been the main theme of the turnover struggle for you the last couple of weeks? Last two weeks. You know, I think last week I started pressing. I I don’t feel like I pressed at all this game. I think um got careless with keeping it high and tight on that first drive on the run. Um would have had a great run there and then I think the the tip pick was unfortunate. Um so yeah. Do you feel like you put any pressure on yourself given what happened in Chicago? No. No. I knew I wanted to play a cleaner game. Um wasn’t happy with the fumble obviously the first drive. Um but try to respond in the right way. Um I think as a group we just, you know, starts with me. We got to just execute better, you know, execute better, see things better. Um credit to their defense. They did a lot of great things. Um knew they were going to give us a lot of different looks, which they did. Um but no, I I don’t feel like I put too much pressure on myself. I just, you know, um had to control those moments and tuck the ball tighter literally. And for the, you know, for the your guys drives across midfield, like what are you seeing kind of like a season thing of not being able to convert the way you guys wanted? Was there anything you were saying today specifically? Yeah, I mean, we were converting on third down well. You know, our numbers were okay in the first half. Um, you know, they they brought some good pressures. Um, we had the right answers versus a good amount of them. Um, you know, could have got the ball out maybe quicker on some checkdowns when we crossed that 50 yard line. We knew that was a high pressure area. Um, you know, couple missed stops, but got to watch the tape and see what happened when we crossed the 50 cuz seems like we couldn’t really get anything going um once we pass that 50. So, we got to watch the tape, figure that out. What’s next like how do you how do you handle this week? I mean, I just go at it the same way. You know, it’s part of the game. Um, I’ve been through adversity before. Um, I’m going to be a good teammate, have good body language, still be a leader. Um, you know, so I just got to show up to work, keep keep a smile on my face, keep working, and uh, you know, you can only control what you can. I’ve said that before. So, I’m control what I can, and um, keep attacking the same way. Were you surprised at the decision? Um, a little bit, but you know, hey, no, no bad feelings at all with with Kell. You know, he’s that’s my guy. He’s awesome. Um, he’s been awesome all year, and uh, you know, we haven’t really gotten anything going on offense. um you know the last two weeks. So, you know, hey, understood. Just got to show back up and figure out what we need to get better at. So, disappointing but not surprising, you’d say. Um little bit of both. Little bit of both. Um you know, definitely not happy with the turnovers, you know, you’re not happy with that. Not scoring points offensively the whole game, you’re not happy with that. Um you know, but hey, it is what it is. Charge it to the game. Move on. That’s all you can do. Spencer, your thoughts on the way that the defense played and the way that they played. I guess that be extra frustrating. They played great. They played great. They gave us a chance that it’s been like that the last few weeks. Um they play with energy. They play with more energy than us, more focus, more effort. Um and you could see it. So, we got to respond better, especially when they give us the opportunity before half to go score at midfield. Um, you know, we got to convert on that, you know, and get seven instead of three. So, defense is doing their thing. Offense got to wake up. So, you know, that’s we got to figure that out and keep working at it. Is there anything you attribute that to like why the defense would be more focused than the offense? Maybe focus isn’t the best word. Um, I think just playing with more fire. I think you could see that. Um, you know, I think offensively we can get some things going. Um, create some momentum, create some energy. Um, and that starts with just basic plays, right? Moving the chains, hitting hitting the shot when it’s there. Um, getting first downs, and then ultimately finishing in the red zone, which we haven’t been doing. So, um, you know, we we just got to do better in those areas and, you know, keep keep our really up our level and energy and and fire, all that. But it comes with execution. Why hasn’t that fired today? Um, I mean, I think we just got, you know, you got to catch a rhythm. You know, I think our rhythm wasn’t there. Started out the game well, turned it over. That’s that’s not great. But how you respond is everything. So, um, we didn’t respond well. Um, and you know, I think you got to you got to execute to have that fire. We we play with fire. Don’t don’t get it mistaken. You know, we we play with energy. Um, we’re dialed in, but we just got to execute better. It comes down to execution. comes down to situations um and just trusting the play that’s called and getting it ran well. Do you think Tampa did anything that Chicago also did like that game carry over to what they do today? No, a little different. You know, we we knew Tampa’s a heavy pressure team. We had a good plan coming into it. Um I want to say the first third down of the game, they brought cover zero, bliss everybody and we made the right check and got the ball out. Um but yeah, I mean Bulls is going to give you something different every single play and it’s what we expected. Um they out executed us as clear and all game and so we just got to look at look at our preparation, take it to the next level and uh move on from this one, move on to the next. How do you process the last two results with the overall improvement season? The last two games. Yeah. Um maybe that Yeah, you know, you want to improve each week. You know, last week obviously got careless with the ball a little bit. Um this week, first drive again, high and tight. That that’s on me. I got to keep it high and tight. We we preach that every day. Um you’re never safe when you’re out there running, especially as a quarterback. So, you got to keep it high and tight. Um I think just protecting the ball, that’s it. And then taking the completions when they’re when they’re there. I felt like I was taking them. Uh a few missed stops, but got to go back on the tape and watch it. Um but yeah, you know, got to be better. Got to be better. Thank you.

Why you think Sean Payton left the Saints because he couldn't do any with them
Just really unfortunate for Spencer. I do believe he's a franchise QB and will bounce back. Last 2 games were rough, but I really saw him play lights out and throw some good balls before that and just had some drops from his WRs. Great attitude, true professional, keep your head up and move forward Spencer.
Spencer needs to call his own plays. What do you have to lose? Or else he’s gonna end up on another team with a chip on his shoulder and ball out like Sam Darnold. This o line is trash.
Rattler you good quarterback they get you the right playbook
Rattler is a plague. Need pest control to get the Rats out of Nola.
Y’all are failing these young quarter backs. Get them some true talent like the rest of the league does. Interior Oline, RB1, WR1 & TE1.
I’ll be at the rams game my only question is do I wear paper bag or not 😂😂
I've been rooting for this young man, but 3 points in 3 quarters isn't cutting it. We're averaging 1 point per quarter with him
Evil Rattler, but what did you expect from a #5thRounder!? Trade him to Bmore, let Lamar mentor him to become a more valuable asset building a stronger skillset. Trade for Tyler Huntley to mentor Shough. WinWin. These QBs need a Vet mentor.. Sadly Taysom Hill isnt that, and Derek Carr made the smart decision to hang it up.
Get these young guys around someone who can uplift them to the next level. Not many high IQ QBs will be left in 10yrs. We were blessed with Brady, Manning, Favre Rodgers.. Now Mahomes, Burrow, Lamar, Allen… anyway you can touch that line of generational greatness, do it! The next batch of QBs look even worse than Cam Wards, Bryce Youngs & Trevor Lawrences (below average QBs)
Yes….Rattler made a couple of bad mistakes….but Tampa put heavy pressure on him. Meanwhile, how many times did his TE and other receivers drop passes ….What's going on with the O line blocking? Let start next game with Rattler and focus on ball protection, catching and holding on to the ball, receivers are really playing half-ass… Kellen Moore needs to wake up his staff and invigorate the offense with some motivation.
WEEEE SUUUUUUCK!!!!!!! 🤦🏾
Y don't this media ask Loomis the tough questions
Buc fan here
He seems like he sees the blitz well and goes to the right read.
This dude is trash
As a Bucs fan I’m happy yall keep starting this dude
Spencer isn’t really good
1 and 17! The one was done by defense.
As a Lifelong fan I think we all would have liked to have seen some ….frustration, anger, passion coming fron ANYONE on this roster. They are all acting like 1-7 is just another day at the office….They are NOT playing well, and this "Nice guy" attitude is making me sick to my stomach, where is the FIRE?
Man it’s going to be disgusting when rattler goes to another team and shines 🤦 if anything he should request a trade
Spencer is a good dude and a good QB. He’s just on a bad team with no run game no pass protection and no real playmaking receivers.
Finally the 1-13 bum got benched. Kellen Moore is a complete moron to keep this bum in that long. His lost fumble and pathetic pick-6 was the nail in the coffin. He throws the ball right at the defensive end and then punks out and gets run over giving up a defensive touchdown.. Tyler Shough is the future. There's a reason he was drafted with the #2 pick. Use him. This 1-13 bum got to start in 14-games with a 1-13 record to show for it. Tyler Shough should get that many opportunities. 14 games to start to see what he can do and also play with the starters and practice with them. Kellen Moore's play calling is also piss poor. It's all centered around that 1-13 bum when you have your best weapon on offense in Alvin Kamara and he's been getting the least amount of touches for his career. I'm not just talking about carries but having passes thrown at him. Moore's play calling isn't even using his best players. He's no better than Dennis Allen as a head coach so why did we get rid of Allen? If the 1-13 bum starts next games, that means the Saints are tanking which makes them losers if they do.
They need to get rid of the coach and quarterback
watch him since last year, he's worse than a "jag"
Thanks for passing this message to Spencer Rattler:
God close one door for you because he try to open another door for you so that he has to do so!
Don't be frustrated and do stupid things!
Express thanks to God who gave you first opportunity answering your previous pray a couple months ago!
Look let’s Be real saints fans you can put Patrick Mahomes on this team and the record would still be the same. Go watch last year Super Bowl against the eagles look at what a poor offensive line does to an offense. A great Coach like Andy Reid addressed that and knows games are won in the trenches. No quarterback is going to fix this you have WR that don’t fight for the ball and have butterfingers no yards after catch and no separation in routes. The offense line can’t block for the run or the pass . Penalties and horrendous play calling !!Drew Bree’s had weapons Colston , jimmy graham , Shockley, Ingram thunder and lightning backs Reggie bush and so on. I’m glad they’re benching Rattler so you can see it’s the team and the horrendous play calling . Wishing Tyler Shough the best of Luck!! Trade Rattler and let him be great he’s a gamer and has elite talent with the right team and coach who dat !!! This message has been brought to you by butterfingers the official sponsor of the saints !!
