Stop listening to certain people…. who have an axe to grind against Petey.

The same people who won't call out Ownership for refusing to rebuild for over 10 years.

Don't let them distract you.

  1. I just hate that we have to either make excuses or hate, can’t we just accept he’s not what he used to be and try to enjoy watching hockey

  2. Thank you! My god, people think players can shoot from anywhere, at any angle, weight shifted on any foot, and 10 players between them and the net. Sometimes there is an opportunity squandered, but man, it can’t keep being reduced to have puck, shoot puck, every time.

  3. I dont understand complaining about this play. The Hawks player right beside him was going to either block the shot or prevent Petey from shooting so he passed to the open man. If anything I don’t understand why Kane didn’t pass it back for Petey for him to try and tap it in.

  4. This play aside, I just want him to shoot more, period. Ovechkin has 900 goals, partly because he’s taken 6896 shots. Sure, shot quality matters, but it’s ultimately a volume game.

  5. Just feels like sometimes Canucks fans only watch Canucks so they compare everything to prime Sedins, prime Naslund, prime Bure, etc, but it’s really really hard to be as good as they were or as perfect. Creative players sometimes give up the puck or try and make a play that doesn’t work. But that’s just part of the process.

  6. We’re getting so meta. I think we’re now complaining about the complainers who complain about the original complainers.

Look, let me smack everyone’s face into the pavement so that we can get good traction on reality.

Nobody would be talking about the breakaway if EP40 was, as Ferraro described, a “really good player.”

Have you watched McDavid and Mackinnon and all these top-line guys? They screw up all the time. Ferraro is absolutely right about that. People almost always instantly move on because 5 to 10 minutes later these guys create magic, if not an outright goal.

EP40 isn’t a magic man… but he’s paid and expected to be one… maybe even more importantly, this team *needs* him to be one if they want to succeed. Hence the consternation about the breakaway.

  7. It was a fine play.

I actually think the pass was just shitty personally. He dropped it back rather than deking to create space and giving it to Garland in stride.

  8. Bruh anyone blaiming Petey on that has never played hockey in their lives. Wtf did they think he’d do after a late pass and the defenceman closing in

  9. You dont even need to nitpick plays to know hes not playing up to expectations

In 15 GP, 8 games with no points

2 games with 2+ shots, 2 games with 0 shots

    Averaging 1.5 shots per game

10 total points, 6 even strength points

    -1

Cant spin these numbers positively no matter how you look at it

  10. My issue isn’t that he didn’t shoot. Given the situation it was the right play to pass. My issue is he didn’t have the speed to break away. I know it was at the end of a shift, but there was another similar play where he had a chance to break in but was too slow. That’s the biggest difference I notice now. He has no speed. Not sure what changed but he just doesn’t have the same jump he used to. If he can’t fix that he’ll never get back to being a point per game player.

  11. Mi issue with Petey is that he is playing like a 2C. Think like Nico Hischier in New Jersey. Or RNH in Edmonton. He’s great defensively and is tasked to cover many great matchups. The problem is he got paid to be a 1C that produces, and he just isn’t.

I’m not gonna cherry pick every play, but I’m not the one that signed him to score 100+ a season, and he isn’t doing that. He of course has and always can again, those guys have too, but he is not on pace to do that this season.

I have a giant axe to grind against ownership, and I wish the team went on a rebuild.

    Both things can be true.

  12. I’m absolutely positive has an injured shooter.

Just like last year he had an injured…. whatever the f×÷k it was.

Its totally not that petey is slow soft and overpaid.

  13. Insufferable fans, the amount of complaining I see about Petey or Quinn makes me wonder how many people even watch the games

  14. in this instance, sure 50/50 on danger and opportunity
Watching that best of clips package tho, completely different player now. Little energy, hustle anymore.
    my complaint #1627

  15. Strictly by my personal eye test, Petey has regained some but not all of the speed and quickness he had prior to his knee injury. Hopefully, he continues trending in the right direction. He doesn’t have the size/strength to be an effective offensive player at a slower pace.

  16. To me, he’s playing with some urgency, as are Garland and Sherwood.

I don’t want to beat a dead horse with these injuries, but with that much talent not out on the ice contributing, i would think that the ones still playing won’t be able to be as effective 🤔

The injuries are a bigger issue than the lack of centre depth, because the injuries are able to make the centre situation exponentially worse.

  17. Petey glazers rejoice. Too bad it won’t make him the player we payed him to be and this team will circle mediocrity until Vancouver sinks into the ocean.

  18. Support the team or GTFO. It has the bones of being good to great. We have assets on defense to spare over the next few years and even without a bunch of pieces on F are treading water at .500.

The vocal part of our fan base that reacts to everything need to learn from those of us who have made the same mistakes and have learned how to enjoy the game and support our team no matter what happens.

Measured criticism is fine, but JFC, we don’t need a rebuild thread every day and attacks on our players every hour. Given our recent history, I expect to see some loser throw a jersey on the ice if it doesn’t go well tomorrow night.

  19. Petey hasn’t been perfect this year but people constantly blaming him for everything like he’s the sole reason the team is ass cheeks rn is so corny. I’d be more angry at management than any ONE player.

  20. There was a discussion on Sportsnet 650 with Jannik Hansen. Not this particular play but ep40’s overall play.

Petey is improved on the defense side of things for sure but he appears more pass first instead of shoot first and he’s not attacking the net

  21. Petey looks almost like his old self with confidence and pace and those that can look under the hood of point per game stats can see it. He needs to continue to demand the puck more and he’ll be back to PPG.

On the play there was no angle for Petey to shoot as well without being blocked as a lefty. The pass to Garly was the play. Garly hung onto it too long trying to deke on his backhand for an eternity despite Petey being wide open for a cross crease.

Petey generally always makes the correct play. Fans are too critical of Petey and project the team and other player failures onto him.
