Regardless of our rivalry, it should always be set aside when real life kicks someone in the ass like this. Our deepest condolences to the Vesia family.

  1. He’s a great player, but it’s more important that he be a great husband and father. He and his family have my respect and condolences.

  2. Probably one of the worst things someone can go through. Hope they have support during this time

  3. This was always the fear and I’m sad to hear it’s true. My sympathies are with him and his wife. Rest in peace Sterling.

  4. I cannot imagine the heartache that comes with such a loss. It is understood that the baseball community will always come together to all those that feel kicked down.

Condolences to the Vesias. I feel their heartache and hope they get through the upcoming holidays as best they can.

  5. God damn, no wonder he missed it, and I can’t blame him. The worst news a parent could ever receive. I can only imagine that the pain will never go away, but I hope the Vesia’s can find the peace they’re looking for down the road.

I love the gesture the Blue Jays made when they all wrote Vesia’s number on their hats. At the end of the day, it’s just a game, and caring for your neighbor always makes you a winner in my book.

  6. Hate the dodgers but having gone through the same thing…its something I’d never wish upon my worst enemy

  7. One thing that im amazed by, unless of course I missed it, is outside of probable speculation given the circumstances, no one in mlb leaked that this was the cause of his absence. I would think that at least most of the dodgers knew exactly what the family was dealing with and likely players on the blue jays as well in addition to just friends and family. But no news or reporters were reporting that “inside information or anonymous sources tell us …”
Which is extremely impressive/astonishing in the instant information media age we live in. Faith in humanity slightly restored with that perspective

  8. That’s heartbreaking to hear. Hoping they can find some sort of solace and have the support through tragedy

  9. That’s horrible. Hopefully his family recovers and seek help if they need it. That’s really, really sad and I feel for him and the mother.

  10. Oh my heart aches for them I can’t imagine their pain right now. Losing a child is an unimaginable grief. I hope they get all the support they need

  11. Fuck man, you hate to see it.

Between what happened to Marshawn Kneeland, and now this, those may be 2 of my most hated teams of all time but team hatred does not come before humanity. My sincere condolences to both Kneeland and Vesia and their families.

  12. It never leaves you. I lost my eleven year old daughter in a tragic accident in 1999. I’m still mourning her loss. My heart goes out to him and his family. Losing a child is so hard. So much promise, so many “what could have been’s”.
