  4. – trade away franchise player who would be all nba for the next 15 years at least for an ageing injury plagued star
    – get bailed out by the league to get the 1st pick
    – realize that your entire roster is PFs and Cs
    – play the generational prospect out of position rather than build a more balanced roster
    – team plays like shit because this kid has never played PG before.

  5. The debate over whether offense or defense is more important is irrelevant. Because a team incapable of producing good shot quality cannot have good defense.

    So ironically, the most crucial piece of the Mavs’ defense was actually Luka. Because he is a playmaker who produces elite shot quality.

  19. The real funny thing is there is another world where Dallas actually got a crazy haul because Nico appropriately shopped Luka. Instead they got a guy who’s nicknamed “day to day” Davis because of how frequently he’s injured.

  40. I’m not one to jump to conspiracy theory conclusions, but this is one I genuinely think has some steam behind it.

    The Luka trade was genuinely baffling. AD, Max Christie, and 1st????? THAT’S IT? No reaves, no 5 1sts, no nothing. To the league’s most popular team who haven’t generally been run well for years and coasted off superstars who forced their way there

    Then you get Flagg and potentially a top pick gifted to you in the next draft. This reeks too much of collusion

  43. The Luca trade is the only trade I can remember where every single person said “It’s the worst trade ever” the second it happened. Usually you have to wait and see how things turn out. Everyone knew this was awful right away. How can you continue to be a Mavs fan in Texas and not just go root for the Spurs or Rockets?

  44. I think the point is: imagine if the Mavs had totally normal luck in the lottery. Imagine they had gotten Noa Essengue or Carter Bryant instead. That is ACTUALLY how much of a dumbass Nico Harrison is. Him getting Cooper Flagg is complete luck, and they are STILL this bad.
