Saddiq Bey on team defense, rookie contributions | New Orleans Pelicans

you, man, not playing at all last year and being able to come in and contribute like this right away. Uh, it’s it’s a blessing. Um, it’s the longest I ever been without playing basketball, man. So, I just thank God for being able to get back and playing and um, so it’s just it’s just been a journey and it’s still more for me to go see just get back into just the full back ingrained into the the season. It’s been so long, you don’t realize there’s certain things that uh we not in that that rhythm like a like a normal NBA season every year being for over a year and a half is tough, man. So, I I could contribute all to God. Are you surprised that you were able to to do it this fast? Uh no, surprised. I’m not No, I don’t know. That’s the word. I just think for me, I just just try to grind every day and just know that uh you know, for me, it’s like God gave me the opportunity to play again. So try to take the most more advantage of it and I just have a different perspective when it comes to to games now. For sure. Last couple games the defense has won the both games for you. It feels like what’s working for you guys on that end of the court. We just playing uh together like you said on both ends talking more seeing the film seeing what we got to get better at being more physical and I just we just knew it was going to come with time to be better. Obviously, we still have um you know, ways to go, but just seeing it and knowing that hey, we all like want to win. We all trust each other now. Just about technique and actually just getting it down as a team. You’ve been on a couple like fairly young teams, but like Derek Queen, Jerem, uh Michael, they seem like a different caliber of rookie class. What do you see out of those guys? Uh yeah, they’re they’re a great rookie class. All of them are um have tremendous confidence in themselves, very coachable, play a lot of high high level basketball. So, um, you know, the lights are, you know, they’re they’re ready for them. So, it’s just great to be, you know, their teammates and being able to learn from each other. What have been your impressions about Derek Queen so far? Oh, he’s been great, man. You know, um, you know, he’s battled some things before this season as well. So, uh, you know, it’s great to see him out there being able to, you know, he been finishing games, um, being able to, you know, had the ball in his hand, stuff like that, playing defensively, man. I know people don’t really give him that much credit, but I think, you know, defensively he’s been well. He’s won us games down the stretch of playing a great pick and roll defense. So, um, it was, you know, a tribute to him. What did you think of the impact that Micah Pave made on defense in that last game? Oh, yeah. He’s been, it’s crazy. He’s been, since I met him, he’s been a defensive Hawk since training camp the first day. So, um, he’s really good at defense and when he come in the game, um, that’s, you know, that’s what he really brings to the table. Um, so it’s just it’s been good to see. It seemed like uh DQ the last two games have been not just scoring, not just rebounding, but just doing everything. Um, what what’s your impression of just the kind of the uniqueness of his game? Yeah, very unique. Uh, he has his own game. I wouldn’t really compare it to nobody for real. I think he had his own skill set and IQ. So, um, you know, he’s going to be he’s going to be really good for us and he’s going to be a great player in the future.
