Lucas Raymond, JT Compher, Todd McLellan Post Game Comments vs NYR | Nov. 7, 2025

I think uh you know today was far from from the way we’re supposed to play the way we know we can play and um yeah it was um far from our game. What about the uh I mean the power play uh going well for four and also do you think it just didn’t give you enough momentum even when you’re going to score? For sure. Um you know four four power plays and uh you know we know we got a good power play. We got to execute better. we were didn’t play with enough speed um you know slopp you through the zone and um you know a lot of different other things as well. So um but it’s like you’re saying you can’t you’re not always going to score but but you got to gain momentum and uh you know come out of there with with a bit of push for the team and uh we didn’t do that tonight and we’re aware of it and um yeah just about making it better moving forward. One goal in the last two games beyond the opposing goalies. What do you see going on with the offense? Uh I think we’re we’re a little bit too much on the outside right now. uh you know, looking for that perfect opportunity, guys not getting to the net. Uh we’re not getting to those dirty areas right now where where a lot of the goals are scored. Um and uh you know, we talked about it after the Vegas game. We knew it coming into this game. And um you know, it’s easy when when it’s not going in that you start looking for it even more. And um you know, for us right now, it’s just about keeping it simple, getting back to it. Um you know, we know we can score goals. We got a lot of guys in this room that can score goals. So, uh, just about trusting that there were there were plenty of chances tonight that were just styied by quick. Is that at least a positive that you’ll take moving forward? Uh, yeah, he he was good. Uh, but at the same time, you know, you got to bear down on the chances you get. Um, tonight I think we had plenty of chances to score one, two, um, you know, on a good night three. Um, but we didn’t and, uh, you know, that’s that’s what matters and we need to to adjust it and and get better moving forward. Luke is always talking about that first game coming back from the West Coast. I mean, did you feel the energy was there from you guys or um you know, you know, it’s not an excuse. We had a we came in, we had a day off. Um you know, we had a practice day. We had plenty of time to to readjust, re-energize, and and get ready to go. Um, so you know, it’s it’s two in a row now and we’re we’re looking to change that Sunday. Cuz I’m curious, did Todd specifically mention that whole idea of of game coming back to you guys? Like uh yeah, I mean I think we’re all aware of it, right? Like um you know, a lot of travel time difference, but uh like I said, we knew it. Um we had plenty of time in between to get ready and um you know, that’s on us. Um, but like I said, we we got Sunday and I think everyone want to get out there as quick as possible. Start third period. Oh, sorry about that. Okay. You all right? Yeah. Sorry about that. Um, you know, I thought we did a pretty good job of giving ourselves a chance most of the game and then, uh, you know, they they strike to make it 3-1 and then we kind of give him one to make it 4-1 and then it’s, you know, feels way different then. Uh, and we had our chances. I had a chance on a two-on-one, Ker had a chance right before, you know, um, he makes nice saves, but we got to find a way to bear down and, um, and tie it or keep it closer. JT, your shot literally was literally an inch away from going off of Quick’s club there. At least so many prime chances. Will you at least take that as a positive even though they didn’t ultimately go away? Yeah, I mean you want to We had chances to score but you got to score. Um, you know, they did a little bit more than us um to win. They buried down their breakaway. They buried down some of their chances and that’s the difference. Is it a matter of bearing down a little more? Like you said, one goal in the last two games. I mean, I know the opposing goalies have something to do with it, but for you guys’ offense, Yeah. I mean, some of it’s that, but some of it’s um, you know, coming our ozone and being direct, and he talk Todd talks all about getting pucks to the net and bodies to the net. And, um, you know, we’re doing a better job, I think, on the rush of doing that sometimes, but, uh, in zone, I think there’s more there. And even on the rush, there’s more there of being a little more simple and, um, continuing to get pucks and bodies there. That’s two losses in a row and three out of four. After the good start, how important is it to just nip this in the bud and get back on the right track? Yeah, especially being home for a few. Um, yeah, we’ll be ready to go on Sunday. Todd, you talked about making no excuses with the travel and the road and all of that. What did you make of the energy and just approach to the game? Um, no excuses. That that doesn’t come into play um at all. Uh, I thought as the night rolled out, the start was fairly good, take a penalty, and we give up a goal that is part of the pre-cout. An hour before we went on the ice, we talked about that exact situation, and we make a mistake. So, now we’re down by one, we’re chasing the game. Um, you know, right now they’re sitting at the best defensive record in the league. You’re already down by one. That’s not a real good thing, but work our way back into the game. And even at 2-1 in the third period, u we have a chance at a point at least. Uh we have a chance at taking it to overtime. We didn’t even get an opportunity to use our minutes up. Um two very uh preventable goals, especially the fourth one. Um so sometimes you’re there physically um which tonight I thought we were for the most part. I’m not sure we were there between the years again. Um, and that includes offensively. We had we had some pretty good opportunities and um, yes, Jonathan Quick made some great saves, but when you’re sharp and you’re alert and you’re attentive, um, some of those go in for you. Power play is a prime example. That leads into my question. I mean, I know opposing goalies have something to do with it, but one goal the last two games. What do you see going on defensively? Well, uh, we had way more opportunities tonight than we did in Vegas. Um, and in Vegas, we, you know, back end of the trip, I don’t know how much gas we had in the tank, but we created enough opportunities to be to again to get it to 1-1. I give our guys credit there because we didn’t open the game up. We checked to the end. We gave ourselves a chance at least. The the difference tonight is we had more opportunities. It didn’t go our way. we get a little bit frustrated. We open it up and all of a sudden it’s 4-1. We have no chance. So, um, again, the resilience, we use that word on the road. I think you asked me about it, the the mental, uh, capacity to stick with it. Um, even if it’s not going your way, uh, we didn’t have that tonight. Um, as far as offense goes, perhaps in in even these two games, we had more offense in in this game than maybe we did in San Jose or we did in LA. um it just doesn’t go for you. Uh my biggest concern offensively is the power play and that’s that’s unacceptable. But what we’ve been watching, we put some really good players on the ice and uh you know they’ve got to get it done whether it’s the first unit or the second unit and we’re not getting it done right now. How hard was it to not think about that chance by Kane in front of the net there afterward? Well, it’s there’s offense like um you know, if anybody was going to have the puck in that situation, I could pick one individual. I’d pick Patrick Kane. Um you know, so it it didn’t go our way, but there’s a wide open net. There’s one that makes it 2- two, and now who knows what can happen. So, um sometimes you worry about offense when you’re you’re not creating opportunities. Uh I thought we created opportunities tonight and didn’t finish. So, that that has to get better. And how did you feel about his overall game? His first game back at nine. Caners well he’s been off for three weeks and and for the uh a good chunk of that we were gone. So he hasn’t practiced with the team. He hasn’t been involved in five on five play. Um but he’s talented enough and smart enough to get back into the game situation and and uh and find his flow. So I thought he was effective. Um you know he made some plays. Um, I think he’s only going to get better as he gets involved with um, you know, five teammates and five opposing players and playing a little bit. Todd, you alluded to it, but what specifically aren’t you liking about the power play right now? What’s going on there? I think we we we’re upside down and what does that mean? I I think we start from all around the net and then then get there. And I I believe we should be going to the net first with the puck and we want to make all these plays. Hey, we got this and we got that. And you know what? Sometimes it’s great and the goalie makes a save and you feel good about your power play, but overall um you know, I I go back to some of our power plays here in San Jose. It it was the simplicity of creating a shooting opportunity, taking advantage of it, and then jumping on them right after. We do it differently. We want to make eight passes and spring somebody open for a great A chance. And and if it works, great. If not, well, then we got to go do it all over again. It we’re upside down a little bit. We’ll fix it. Good.

  1. Utter shite! Said before the season this is a .500 team and barring a couple of lucky wins, that's where they'd be. Softest defense in the league….guys can just coast around the Wings D, untouched and no pressure. It's embarrassing. ASP needs time in GR. Seider needs to stop fumbling the bloody puck on the PP. Larkin needs to stop these stupid rushes where he tries to skate through everyone. He thinks he's got Datsyuk hands when he actually has Darren Helm hands. 5 on 5 they are still pretty poor.

  2. I turned it once the Rangers scored their third goal. I turned it to the Pistons game. Thank God we have other sports teams to watch cus I'm already tired of this Red Wings team. Going to ruin a good start by losing games like this. And they still don't have any super star players ten years into a rebuild

  3. The overreacting after every game is hilarious. Every win “this is the year we make playoffs again!” Every loss “this team sucks, trade everyone, scrap the season” you all have to get a grip. Seriously

  4. Finnie doesn't need to be in the top 6, DeBrincat doesn't need to be tied to Kane at all times, Berggren doesn't need to be scratched because he can't carry a line on his own, Hamonic doesn't need to play over JBD, Seider doesn't need to be the PP1 quarterback, Kasper needs to figure things out, Edvinsson needs to play with faster pace, Rasmussen and probably. Compher need to open up a spot for Danielson

  5. Why tf was ben chiarot and ras killing penalties for us!? Why do you switch the lines up every game? Why is soderblom in the line up!? Biggest softest player i have ever seen

  6. There’s a reason why killing it the first couple games is a good thing, it gives us a little cushion to tweak some things without losing too much in the standings.

Personally, we had too many giveaways. That needs to change.

  7. Every loss the players have the same excuses. Todd was correct after game 1 of the season. They've been saying we can fix this, we can fix this, then they don't. When are they going to get tired of losing? They don't even look like they're trying.

  8. HAHAH, red wings falling back down to earth… Know your place… Basement dwelling is all you'll ever be wings… BUF making playoffs this year while yall flounder around…

  9. Im getting really tired of reiterating that Seider should NOT be the PP1 QB. His shot is a liability, and he bobbles pucks for 3 years now at the blue line. PP and top 6 needs to just shoot and stop trying to be cute with the puck.

  10. That was pathetic! Apparently you idiots need to focus on defending your own net and developing your goaltenders! Bring up Cossa! Get him some time in the net! Maybe then we’ll win games.

  11. Rasmussen needs to go. Only good recent free agent signing has been Appleton, guys like Copp and Compher are so disappointing relative to their contracts. Even JVR and Hamonic as 1 year depth signings are whatever both kinda washed and we probably could’ve done better there. I wanna see Danielson up by Christmas and Mazur if healthy. Wallinder first call up on D if injury, not Gus or Holl.

  12. Rushing towards Mediocrity? These guys better have a leadership meating and nip this thing in the butt now. Rangers haven't scored on anyone all year. Until the wings.

  13. It's always amusing reading the comments after a loss.
Every loss = this teams trash, send this guy down, get this guy off the team
Every win = we are so back, we're making the playoffs
People cant just keep a level head I guess.

  14. At least a couple of things going on here: (1) put a body, preferably a bigger body, in front of the opposing goalie ALREADY!!!! Where in the heck are those big bodies? Van Reims Dyke, Soderblom, Rasmussen, and even Seider since he can't run quarterback a power play effectively from the blue line—— at least put his big body in front of the opposing net and chuck shots in his direction, and just maybe they'll second chance shots or tip ins will get in the back of the net!!!! And (2) STOP, STOP, STOP using Seider to run a power play offense. Seider is too predictable, not a good puck handler, and clumsy on the ice, so the Wings better start using the Swedes they have, preferably Ax Pelikka, with either Edvinnson or Johansson to flank him on power plays. Seider CAN'T handle the puck. He's too defensive minded. He is not an offensive defenseman. Wings need to move on with the idea of having Seider run a power play whatsoever…… If this continues, they will keep losing. If you want Seider on the power play, put his body in front of the opposing goalie and Pelikka preferably can chuck shots at the net. Otherwise, get Seider the heck off the ice on a power play. He's embarrassing himself.l, especially when he blows a tire which he has done quite often in the past. Pelikka needs to be on the ice more often to run the offense, not Seider. The Swedes are a lot better than Seider will ever be on offense. Put Seider where he is needed: on the PK mainly. Leave the power plays up to the Swedes, like Pelikka, Edvinnson, and Johansson. They'll eventually get much better as they know how to handle the puck better than most on the ice, especially compared to Seider who doesn't handle the puck well.

  15. Maybe they should send Kasper Down to ride the bus for a little while to wake him up like the Tigers did to Torkelson. Take Rasmussen with him. Rasmussen is dead weight. He don’t score he don’t lay anyone out with a big momentum changing hit, he don’t drop the gloves standing up for himself or teammates plus he isn’t good as people seem to think on the PK.

  16. No Cam?!?
I think he wanted to let the Rangers community have its moment.
What's more, he and Jonathan Quick are both very generous; I posit that they might have been trying to "out-give" each other.
