Willie Green on back-to-back wins, offense | New Orleans Pelicans

How how did the team kind of come in respond? How do you kind of keep that rolling? No, it was great. Great. Uh great to get those two wins. Uh two kind of hard fought games. Uh and it builds it builds your confidence as a team. It builds the momentum that we’ve been working on. Um and then we came in, you know, had a day off and came in today and had a good practice and now preparing to to go to San Antonio. Last two games. Well, it looks like the defense has suffered less breakdowns. You guys are doing much better job making it tougher for opponents in the restricted area. What else is working for you on that end of the floor? You know, I think it starts with that. It starts with our our ability to guard on the perimeter. Um, even when we have breakdowns, multiple efforts, contesting shots, I thought we did a really good job last game of rebounding the ball as as a group. Um, that allows us to try and get out and play in the open floor a bit. But to your point, it starts with our our mindset on the defensive end. Two solid uh performances from our group. What do you what do you want to see from the offensive side? Looks like no Zion probably for at least a week. Same thing with P. They’re your two biggest usage players. So, how’s the offense going to circumvent that their loss? For sure. Number one, continue to play fast, play with force. Um, but then be disciplined. Taking care of the ball is going to be extremely important. We need as many possessions as we can. Driving and kicking the ball, sharing it. Try to be a high assist team. Uh, and then when we have opportunities, offensive rebounding, offensive rebounding gets us more possessions. What’s your second opportunity with the Spurs? What What are some things that you saw in the first game you want to make sure that you all, you know, correct this guy? Well, the things that we did well, we we brought brought physicality to that that game and we have to continue to do that, especially with uh women. He he’s a force. We know that. We got to be physical. Got to get out to the shooters. Um he does a great job of being the hub and if you are not aggressive and multiple effort he can spray it out to Vel and Champany and those guys are hitting shots. Um so a lot of the things that we’ve done the last couple games we we just need carryover into this game. How do you describe the impact that Sadi has been making? Sadik has been great from the time he’s gotten here. Uh his his talking to him is just high character. Understands what he wants to accomplish on the floor. for a great teammate. Uh really good to see him just progress as we as we’re moving along the season. And um he was big for us last game. Really big for us. Hit some big shots, big plays defensively. We need his play. And Willie, no Z, no Jordan, as I just mentioned likely. Next two biggest offensive hubs according to numbers are both your rookies, Fierce and Derek. So how do you balance not trying to put too much on shoulders but allowing them to play freely because you need them on that end of the floor? for sure. Um, we we trust them. That’s the biggest thing right now. That’s the most important component is that we trust Jeremiah with the ball. We we trust Derek with the ball, and they both do a good job of playing off their teammates, finding them. They got shots, they’ll take them. Uh, so it’s going to be a collective effort, but we definitely need those two guys to continue to step on the floor, beat them. Their teammates will make up for whatever it is we need to make up for, but they’ve been really good for us. Dererick’s had a lot of the talk and I think rightfully so, but Jose I say Dererick’s had a lot of like praise for the last rightfully so, but Jose Alvarado is a veteran’s been around. He’s also stepped up. What can you say about his game? Both guys have been tremendous for us. Derek has stepped up. He deserves the credit. He deserves the praise. Same with Jose. Um especially starting out the season, not kind of figuring out the rotation. Um you know, they work hard. Again, high character. They come in every day and give you what they have. And it’s good to see that carryover from practice to the

  1. Willie, if i can give you one advice i would tell you to install a large screen in the locker rooms, practice gym, cafeteria and everywhere that these players usually hangout and have ALL the players stats, percentages, and their impacts to a game being displayed in all sorts of charts to show these players how and where are their contributions to the team winning or losing. i would display their defensive and offensive impacts in a pie chart or graph.. the teams scoring when they are on and off the courts… the team defense when they are on and off the courts. the reason for this is to put everyone on blast for their good and bad so each player can see why some are getting playing time and some arent. this could really change the players mindset because no one want to be the weak link and if the results are everywhere for everyone to see, just maybe players could put out a lil more efforts to getting better for themselves and the team.

  2. I don’t want Poole or Zion’s sorry defending asses on the court anyway. Trade both of them low character mfers…… Poole just wants to shoot and stat pad, get highlight dribble takes…..Zion has ONE ability…… Drive, layup, or dunk…… liability on defense. Trade or cut them.

  3. Fire this useless coach. He’s bad at defense, he’s horrible at offense, his ATOs are embarrassing, he can’t motivate high school team let alone an NBA team. He is the worst coach in the league. Fire him before he ruins Queen and Fears.
