Miami Dolphins Rumors BEFORE Week 10 Ft. Louis Riddick As Next Dolphins GM & Draft LaNorris Sellers?
[Music] I am Nick Goloff. This is Dolphins Today by Chat Sports. Dolphins host the Bills in week 10 tomorrow. Today we’re answering some questions on a mailbag. Appreciate everybody for joining us on our Thursday live show. If you don’t, well, make sure you subscribe and join us. We’ll start with Flatliner who asks, “Is it bad to want Quinners to start now?” I I think it might be a little premature, but as we laid it out on a video Thursday morning, I think it would be a very smart decision for the Dolphins to eventually bench Tua for the rest of the season and start the rookie seventh round pick out of Texas, Quinn. Why do I believe that? Well, this season is going nowhere. And I think it’s actually already over because you needed to go 10 and seven to make the playoffs this year in the AFC. you’re already two and seven. You’re not going to run the table. So, when you are mathematically eliminated, whether it is in two weeks or three weeks, whenever that ultimately comes, as soon as you see that E next to your name in the standings, that is when you should bench Tua in favor of Quinn because you can justify to the media that, hey, the season’s over. We want to see what the young quarterback has. And there is multiple reasons why it’s a good thing. One, you preserve 21, you don’t get him hurt potentially. two, you are able to fully evaluate Quinn Ears for what he is. And if you start him for the entire month of December in the final month of the year and he lights it up and gets you two wins, which might not actually be a good thing in the grand scheme of things, but he could also prove to you that heck, maybe I deserve a chance to be the starter in 2026. and Miami goes into the draft free agency with the mindset of building the trenches, helping out the defense, and hey, we’re going to start Quinny in 2026. So that is another reason why you want to evaluate him for a full month. But you also are given the opportunity to evaluate Mike McDaniel and what he’s able to do from a play calling in game like script and scheme decisions that he makes with a quarterback that isn’t as limited as Tua is. Like it would be the first time he’s able to really create a game plan for a quarterback offensively that isn’t Tua. So, I think I would be very intrigued with how Quinn does as well as Mike McDaniel does, which gives him an opportunity to prove why he should be kept as the head coach going forward after this season. Let me know your thoughts on this question though. Do you want the Dolphins to win on Sunday? Why for yes, N for no? Get down in the comments section and let me know your thoughts. Super chat from Rob. Damn it. Miami drafted their next QB already in Eor. I believe in them. won’t spend too much time on this question because we kind of just broke down why we think he should start ultimately late in the year. Like I mentioned, I I think December is probably the right time for that. Get through the rest of this month where you play the Commanders, the Saints, and the Bills. If you go 0 and three in those games with a buy in between, you’re going to be sitting at 2 and 10 with the final five games of the year in December and January. And I would start ears for the games against the Jets, Bengals, Steelers, Bucks, and uh Patriots to round out the season. Boo, what do you think of Lou Riddick being hired as the GM? I’m not in on that. And I know it’s a popular name for Dolphins fans. And and I unfortunately don’t want to call you out here, Mo, but I like I think it’s the flashy stuff that gets people. It’s the same thing with John Gruden as a head coach candidate. Like I just am not in on the talking heads, the media heads because I think they get ri like rise up because they are in the media. Fans see them consistently. I don’t think they are good decisions. I I would list about 10 people I would rather have over Lewis Riddick. Five of them are on your screen right now. Like I would have to pick if I could Bray Agnu, great option, but I think Ed Dods and Chad Alexander are my top two options right now, assistant GMs for the Colts and Chargers. I’m intrigued with Josh Williams, director of scouting for the San Francisco 49ers. And a name that’s really rising up the ranks as well is Philadelphia Eagles assistant GM Alec Halib. He’s a good name to monitor as well. I also like Mike Greenberg, the assistant GM for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The point I’m trying to make is this. I am not going to hire someone that has been in the media for the last five years. I am going to hire someone that has been actually in a front office working the phones, communicating on a day-to-day basis for each of the last at least five seasons. Not to throw shade at you, Mo, but the people who want Gruden hired as head coach and Lewis Riddick hired as GM, I I just think are dumb. I was trying to find another word for it. I couldn’t. I I I think it’s shortsighted just because they see their name and see their face talking every day to want them to be hired. Turpps with a question. Top five head coach candidates. Yeah, I think they should fire Mike McDaniel. So, if I’m going five head coach candidates, I’m going Robert Salah. He’s my number one. I I want him. He He really is. Defensive coordinator for the 49ers. thought he got the raw end of the stick with how the tenure ended in New York with the Jets and he’s just been a phenomenal defensive coach throughout his entire career and I think he would really whip this defense into shape that boy oh boy needs it in Miami I think Mike McCarthy is a really good option as well a stable coach that knows how to win good offensive mind as well if you want to go with more of a new age head coach a first timer I think Jesse Mentor the defensive coordinator for the Chargers is an intriguing name. Uh Chris Schula, the defensive coordinator from the Los Angeles Rams. Who was the other name that I consistently mention? There’s always five. There’s those four and there’s a fifth name I can’t think of. Coup’s going to get back to me on that one. But I certainly really like those four a lot. Trying to envision who it is. I can’t. It’s going to kill me. And I apologize for really just talking in circles here answering this question. But there is a head coach candidate that I like and I can’t think of who it is. But Coupe, time to move on. We can’t spit on here forever. So I’m sorry, can’t give you a fifth. I’m going four. Make sure you do subscribe and join me on Sunday for Dolphins Bills. This is our thumbnail. We’ll be live one hour before the game. So noon central time or noon Eastern time, 11:00 a.m. Central time. This is our thumbnail. subscribe and join us. Quinn L, we have three picks in the third round. Do we go O line for all three? No. Um Quinton, appreciate the question, but that that is just asine thinking. I understand we need offensive line, but in no world do you address one position with three picks in the one round. Like even doing it twice is a little bit egregious. And that’s what the Arizona Atlanta Falcons did a year ago, taking Jaylen Walker and James Pierce Jr. in the first round of the draft. Like I I just think Miami has an okay baseline at offensive line as bad as it has been. Like think about this. Patrick Paul is under contract at left tackle. Jonah sucks, but he’s still under contract at left guard. Aaron Brewer’s still under contract at center. James Daniels still under contract at right guard. and Austin Jackson’s still under contract at right tackle. Like your entire starting offensive line is under contract for next year. And I know there’s been injuries to it and poor play, but I don’t think you should be like spamming offensive line. I did have in my mock draft Spencer Fano, the offensive lineman from Utah, going to Miami with the fourth overall pick. I think that’s a fine and good decision. He’s my number one nonquarterback offensive player for Miami in this draft right now. But like you don’t need to draft three offensive linemen because you already have a okay baseline at the offensive line position with Jackson Brewer, Jonah, Paul, and James Daniels all being under contract. Tom Collins, if we are not taking a QB in the first round, do we trade back for more picks? I think it’s very dependent on where they are ultimately picking. Let’s say they pick number three overall. They currently have the fourth pick. Let’s say it’s number three. First two quarterbacks go or first two picks go Fernando Mendoza and Ruben Bane Jr. because I think Ruben Bane Jr. has leapfrogged into the best player in this draft that isn’t a quarterback and you are sitting there at three. You have one QB off the board, one edge. You can either sit there and pick a guy like Spencer Fau or Caleb DS or reach on a quarterback like Tai Simpson, Dante Moore. I don’t personally believe Miami should take any of those quarterbacks with that third overall pick in this scenario. So, if a team like the Cleveland Browns who might be picking like six or seven or the team like a Los Angeles Rams who has multiple first round picks calls Miami and says, “Hey, we’ll offer you our two first rounders this year and some day two draft picks to move up to number three.” Yeah, I would take it because then you could go all line Dline in the first round this year. um really get some more assets to build out the base and foundation of this roster. Like I think I would keep a top two pick if it’s Bendoza or you can draft Ruben Bane, but if you’re picking three or four and some teams are offering multiple first to move up, I would certainly consider more questions to be answered, but grab your Dolphin Salute to Service gear. Do you think we should keep Tua after they fired Greer? Well, they’re gonna probably keep him. I mean, that’s just the simple fact of the matter. Like, his contract is not very appealing to other teams. And if you cut him post June 1st, you would have $67 million dead cap this upcoming year. And that’s probably not just going to happen happen, right? Like, you probably ultimately carry Tua through 2026 and cut him after that and only have $33 million in debt cap. So, I think Tua is going to be on this roster in 2026. Now, will he be the starting quarterback? I don’t know. Miami has a top three pick and they take a guy that you think is a starting quarterback and ultimately beats out Tua in training camp. Well, then you just have a Falcon situation where you have a $50 million backup quarterback. It’s like unfortunate. You don’t want that because it’s hard to win when you are paying that much money to someone who doesn’t play for you on a week-to-eek basis. But I think Tua is going to be on this roster next year. We’ll ultimately see if he uh is on the roster past that. I don’t expect that, but he will be here next year in my opinion. Chris, since we are on the QB topic, do you still think Sellers is a good candidate based on falling short in the past few games? Yeah, I I still do like Sellers. Um do I like him enough to take him inside the top five? That’s where it gets a little bit dicey. I I don’t know if that’s the best move for the Miami Dolphins at this point because the Dolphins just have so many other needs. Like if the Dolphins were like a quarterback away, okay, but like you have so much holes defensively and on the offensive line that I think there’s better options than Lenor Cellers if you’re picking the top five. But if you win a couple games down the stretch and you’re picking like seven through 11 and you’re Lenor Sellers is there, okay, I might take him. I I think his raw talent it just cannot be overstated. Like 6’4 240 will run a sub440 if he or sub 440 yard dash if he runs it. It’s hard to bring him down. It’s big Benes. He’s got a cannon. Do a 60 yard pass against Alabama where he barely stepped into it from the 40 to the goal line was ridiculous. He’s got a cannon. He just has inaccurate tendencies and mechanical issues, but if your coaching staff believes that those can be fixed, feel pretty good about that, right? So, yeah, I’m still in on sellers. I just don’t think I would take them in the top three, top five. Hit that sub button for daily Dolphins content. Mentioned earlier, we’ll be live for the game tomorrow against the Bills. So, subscribe, join us. Busch Gardens fan, what are the biggest needs we can get in free agency? I expect Miami to be very selective in free agency. Let’s say that. Um I think they will be very selective because they don’t have a lot of cap space. They actually are bottom five in cap space this upcoming summer. Um they will actually be cutting Tyreek Hill. That saves them 36 million based off some early projections. We’ll see what it ultimately comes out to be, but I think Miami will end up having around 30 to $35 million in cap space going into free agency. Maybe might a little bit more, maybe a little bit less. But the point I’m making here is like you won’t expect to see them going big game hunting in free agency. So, I think they’re going to have to be really selective with some veteran players or like young players looking to bounce back and uh go for one, two-year deals. I think wide receiver is an option for sure because like I mentioned, you’re cutting Tyreek Hill. I think you’re going to need to find a wide receiver too for Jaylen Wadd. You’re going to need to add to that defense. Certainly gonna have to add an edge rusher. Going to have to add people in the secondary, corner, safety. Defensive line is probably fine, right? Because you have Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips, and Zack Celler returning. So, you just hope those three will be able to be better next year than this year. But, you’re going to need an edge rusher. You’re going to need a wide receiver, too. You’re going to need a tight end. You’re going to need um corner. And you’re going to need safety. Those are the biggest five because you’re good at running back. You’re probably not going to spend on O line because you have a full starting group coming back. Um you need an edge. Your linebackers are fine. You have Tyrell Dodson and Jordan Brooks still under contract. So, it’s really corner, safety, edge, tight end, and um yeah, that’s it. Those are the five. Those are the five that I’m looking at. Pierce, do we trade Tua for a seventh and they take half the dead cap? Listen, if you could do that, I I would be in. I mean, now there’s still going to be a boatload of dead cap for Miami, even if the other team agrees to pay the entire contract. That’s just how the contracts work with already guaranteed money and stuff like that. But if the Dolphins were offered a seventh to take two off our hands, I’m in, man. Like I am. Like these are the cap hits. You saw them on screen. If it for the new team if they got traded, it’s basically just the base salary plus all the bonuses they can have. So saw 55 for 2026, 37 in 2027, and then 48 in 2028. But if you take that on, you could ultimately cut them after 2026 like Miami probably will and not have a lot there. But I just doubt a team would ultimately trade a seventh for Tua and take on the money because who has the money to do that? Not many teams and why would you? That’ll do it for today’s show. Nope nope nope…. worthless OLine. Come on nick, this has been the number 1 issue for most of the last quarter century.
Let's see if Zach Wilson has progressed any before we just let him walk
No to Gruden. If people were in the TB market and saw and to to many former players. They all agreed that the locker room became toxic and they all agreed that he was the reason. So please Mr Ross look elsewhere
Ewers best chance to show us what hes got is Vs. the bills..
Tua is NOT good enough to be a starting QB in the NFL and is absolutely not worthy of being paid more than $20M per year!!!
I honestly wish the worst for Tua!
I literally hate him personally with a passion for the way he’s destroyed this franchise! Ross too!!!
I say either take the best olinemen with the 1st round pick or mendoza or sellers with that 1st rounder, but I would double dip on oline, yea we are deep at oline if fully healthy but they are never fully healthy,I dont trust it,also I would take a flier as an undrafted free agent on horvath the navy dual threat qb,he gives me hurts vibes
No more beta males please
Injuries on both teams, but Buffalo will win 35 to 10.
Ewers throws like a girl
Gotta give ewers a couple of weeks for us to see what he really got
I'm completly done with the garbage Dolphins
Its one thing to speak on Louis Reddick but apparently u dont know shit about his background and his work. He knows football more then the dum shit u be coming up with and your pick pre draft is wack as hell.
U gotta do better do your background work thats a man who deserves a shot as a GM. Plus gives u inside track on players
I want the dolphins to lose if Tua plays
Nick… Saleh was horrible with the Jets Besides, he’s McDs best pal.. would replace McD
Yes
Louis Riddick is a very smart guy and is someone I bet Ross likes the shiny things plus I seen your mock it sucks so calling people dumb is laughable glass houses I guess Fano at 4 is a joke but you know very little lol
The comment “ A quarterback away, doesn’t make any sense when your team is already terrible!” Personally I would take a quarterback, even if they have a raw skill set like Sellers because at least he can most likely ascend into a monster of a quarterback whether it’s in the top five or not! The Dolphins need any quarterback that can play all levels of the position, passing especially if they have a strong arm to play winter like games ,running, quarterback sneaking, roll outs, you name it!😏 In other words, he wouldn’t be limited like Tua! PS go out and get a coach who knows how to coach quarterbacks if you’re the coach of the Dolphins 🐬 who needs that type of help!🤷🏽♂️
Only 30 million dollars.
You say that so easily.
Y
How about hire a Super Bowl Champion ASST. GM…
Keep dreaming..here’s how the GM search is going to go – “Raise your hand if you want a HC and QB jammed up ur ass?”
The Bills give Tua a headache. And by that I mean a concussion
