What’s the most important “there’s an animal on the field” moment in baseball history?
November 9, 2025
Mind you, Randy Johnson exploding a dove during spring training isn't all that important. But there's a specific black cat from the 20th century that is the only cat I'll ever hate.
Miller: “A goose has made himself comfortable on the edge of the grass near the Dodgers on-deck circle. He seems quite settled, wings tucked along his body.”
Flemming: “I don’t know if they’ll continue. You’d hate to see a foul ball go the wrong way.”
Miller: “A _seagull_ … will dodge a baseball. We’ve seen that before. But geese are territorial. This isn’t a Canada goose. Perhaps a greater white fronted goose. Nick Martinez doesn’t seem distracted. He, ^heh, he might enjoy not having the spotlight for a moment. A curveball in the dirt, maybe the goose is getting to him. Certainly has the fans cheering.”
Flemming: “The truck has confirmed… that is a greater white fronted goose. That was a good call by our resident ornithologist, Jon Miller.”
Miller: “Thank you, Dave.”
Curse of the Billy Goat, although I guess that was an animal NOT on the field.
The squirrel is on the 2011 World Series ring. Seems hard to top that
I fuckin hate that fuckin squirrel
Last season’s bee incident at the Dodgers/Diamondbacks game that culminated in the beekeeper throwing the first pitch; that one is gonna stick in the memory for a while
Midge
what about that cat that was doing some cool zig zag moves a couple years ago. I guess that might be what they always do
edit: you know what i’m thinking of an NFL cat that scored a touchdown
John Kruk count?
Victor Robles signalling the number of outs to the praying mantis perched on his cap
Long live the rally goose!

Rally Goose was the only cool thing to happen to the Tigers between Verlander’s trade and Miggy’s retirement.
How about the Rally Monkey?
Rally Monkey
I bet that goose announcement got a huge roar from the crowd–as it should.
The ~~grasshopper~~ praying mantis that was perched on Victor Robles’ head. Little dude got reminded the number of outs.
Rally squirrel
Kansas City Royals Rally Mantis
Dave Winfield’s seagull in Toronto in 1983
“The goose is healthy” they definitely killed that mofo
The Midges in 2007
That hit to centerfield that deflected off a bird, and allowed the game winning run to score
Randy Johnson incident has probably been the most replayed and seen all over world for many years . So it has to be the most important bringing viewers to mlb who never would never have seen an mlb clip before .
1969 black cats at the Cubs dugout
2007 Midge invasion
Dave Winfield killing a bird with a throw?!?

A’s rally possum is my favorite
